| title | Bit Worried About Your Bitcoins? |
| body | # The Sky Is Falling! --- If you are new to crypto there is a good chance you are freaking out right now. The markets are crashing, your entire portfolio is red, there is blood in the streets and you want to sell sell sell before you loose everything!!! Take a deep breath...relax. ## Everything is going to be okay Markets go up and down, it's perfectly normal and they will recover like they always do. Zoom out a bit and have a look at the daily candles (or weekly candles if the coin has been around long enough). As long as you have done your research and you have chosen coins that are backed by good teams with good ideas you have nothing to worry about. Jump on [Coin Market Cap](https://coinmarketcap.com/) or [TradingView](https://www.tradingview.com/markets/cryptocurrencies/) and have a look through the historical charts. Dips like this happen every so often, for a range of different reasons...but the panic eventually subsides and the price continues to climb. ## But why did it fall?? There are a range of things that can cause the price to drop...this time it was news out of China. The Chinese government is making moves to regulate cryptocurrency and ICOs. It's really not that big of a deal! People generally don't like change, it's a fact, and this news created uncertainty. Combine uncertainty with money and you get a whole lot of fear (just like the fear that probably brought you to this article). A few people started selling their coins thinking the sky was going to fall, which caused a dip and made more people do the same. Suddenly there is mass hysteria and big, scary, red candles everywhere. ## Don't get caught up in FUD and FOMO **Fear** **Uncertainty** **Doubt** and **Fear** **Of** **Missing** **Out** Both of these things will be your worst enemy in trading. Don't follow the crowd! There is a statistic that says something like 95% of traders will fail. You want to be in the 5% who don't? Just do the **opposite** of the majority! If people are **panicking** and **selling** then you should stay **calm** and think about **buying**. If people have **FOMO** and they are **buying** then you should stay **calm** and think about **selling**. ## Bag Holders, BTFD and HODL You may have heard these terms thrown about...let me sum it up for you. A **bag holder** is a person left holding coins when the value has plummeted and there is **no** chance of it recovering. If you bought a coin and the price dropped, well that does suck but it's not necessarily the end of the world. As long as the coin you picked isn't a dud (yes dogecoin, I mean you) then it's going to bounce at some point and go back up in value. You just have to be patient and wait it out. You only lose if you sell for **less** than you **paid**! **Buy** **The** **F##king** **Dip** This concept is pretty simple... let's say you buy **100** coins at **$2** each, costing you **$200** total. Suddenly the price falls to **$1** You just lost half of your investment! Should you pull out the rest and cut your losses before you lose it all? No way, just BTFD! If you buy another **100** coins at **$1** (let's call them your dip coins) you now have **200** coins and you have paid **$300** total. If you average it out that means you got **300** coins at **$1.50** each. Now just wait for the coin to go back up to **$2** and sell your dip coins. They cost you **$100** but you sell them for **$200**! This means you still have the original **100** coins but now you have only paid **$100** total. Instead of freaking out and selling at a loss, you bought the dip and lowered the price of your original investment. In this case those coins only cost you **$1** each! Nice! If the price dropped again (to say...$0.50) then you just buy even more. When the market goes back up and you sell your dip coins, you will be in an even BETTER position! Please remember this strategy only works with coins that are going to do well in the long run. Hopefully you have done your coin research, read the white paper, checked out the team and believe that the project is going to be a success. If that is the case then you have nothing to worry about! Good things come to those who wait. If you don't have any money left to **BTFD** then you just need to have faith in your investment, be confident with the research you have put in and simply... **H**old **O**n for **D**ear **L**ife! Be patient, stop looking at the charts every 5 minutes and go do something constructive. It will bounce back and you will be so happy you didn't make any decisions based on fear. ## To bake a cake you have to break a few eggs! So make sure you have backup eggs, and don't keep them all in the same basket! Never go "all in" on a coin, no matter how great you think it is. You want to **diversify** your portfolio so if one coin completely fails you don't lose everything (including your sanity and will to live). ## Buy a little bit at a time and you'll be just fine I know how strong the impulse can be to buy when a coin is taking off. Everyone is talking about it and there are big green candles as far as the eye can see...but don't get caught up in the **FOMO** because 9 times out of 10 it will drop back down before it continues climbing at a steadier pace. The best way to even out the risk is buy some now and buy some later. I find 33/33/33 works well. If you plan to invest $100 in a coin buy $33 worth now and then wait a little while and see where the price is heading. It might go up, it might go down! Then buy another $33 and wait again...and finally buy another $33 and hopefully by doing this you managed to buy a better position than you would have if you jumped on the **FOMO** train. Obviously this won't work to your advantage every time, occassionally there are coins that are going to the moon no matter what, but in the long run this is a good strategy. Stick with it to save yourself some money! ## What about the other $1? Oh, will you look at that! You have an extra $1 left over because you took my advice! Well if you found any of that helpful and wanted to send that $1 in my direction to say thanks...it would be rude of me to say no! I'll post my Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses here just in case. | title | Wallets Made Easy |
| body | # Wallets? Wtf? --- So you have bought some crypto on an exchange like CoinSpot or Bittrex and you've heard stories about hackers stealing people's coins...it's about now you start to wonder where your coins are actually stored and how to keep them safe. The answer is wallets! There are lots of different kinds of wallet it's understandable if you are confused. So, rather than explain the specifics of ERC-20 tokens and smart contracts, I'm going to give you a few simple analogies that you might find useful. ## What Are Wallets? In the real world we have real coins and they are kept in real wallets (often leather or velcro) so it makes sense that digital coins are kept in a digital wallet... but some coins need to go into their own special wallet and unfortunately they aren't all compatible. For example, if you send Bitcoins to an Ethereum wallet they could be lost forever...and that is not good! **"That's too confusing, I'll just leave them on the exchange..."** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Don't be this person!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ## Pictures Make Everything Easy! Let's pretend Bitcoins are AFL trading cards! You remember those right? And you would keep them in an AFL folder so you didn't lose them! Think of this folder as a Bitcoin wallet. After Bitcoin came Ethereum, let's pretend Ethereum are Tazos. Tazos (Ethereum) aren't the same size as your AFL cards (Bitcoin) so they need their own folder! There is nothing stopping you from swapping AFL cards for Tazos or vice versa, they both have some sort of value and you can negotiate a trade with someone else. But they need to be stored in the correct wallet! You can't get an AFL card and try to squash it into a Tazo folder, it just wont work! In fact, you will wreck the card if you try and it will be thrown away. Follow me so far? I hope so, because this is where things get a little more complicated. Ethereum is a type of 'token', but there are a lot of other tokens based on Ethereum and they can all share the same wallet because they are the same size and shape... just like Tazos! First there were Looney Tunes Tazos (Ethereum), but other companies quickly discovered it was a great idea and released their own versions like Pokemon, Simpsons & Star Wars (OMG, PAY & CVC). You should keep them on separate pages so the different types don't get mixed up, but those pages can all go in the one Tazo folder (Ethereum wallet)! ## Hot or Cold? Digital or Paper? So many choices! If you keep your coins in an exchange this is referred to as an **online wallet**, **web wallet**, or **hot wallet**. It's not very secure and I wouldn't recommend it for long term storage. The schoolyard analogy for this one would be... your teacher is like an exchange, your Tazo folder stays on their desk and whenever you want to trade them with your classmates you tell your teacher which ones you want to trade and they will do it for you. The bad thing about this is that one of the more mischievous kids could potentially steal your Tazos, they are just sitting there after all...if they watch the teacher carefully enough they can time the theft perfectly and never be caught. --- Another option is a **software wallet**. This is where you download specific software so the wallet is on your PC or Mobile Phone. This is more like carrying your folder around with you. If you want to trade all you have to do is open the folder, pull out some Tazos and pop them into someone else's folder. It's more secure than leaving them with your teacher, because only you have the power to remove Tazos. But it is still not 100% safe... in this analogy you could leave the folder sitting somewhere, or you could misplace it, and someone could steal every last one. --- A safer choice is a **hardware wallet** like a [Tresor](https://trezor.io/) or a [Ledger Nano S](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s). These are like USB drives that hold your coins and they are incredibly safe. Probably one of the best options if you have a lot of money invested in crypto. You can picture these like a metal briefcase with a combination lock. You can carry it around with you, nobody can touch your Tazos unless you unlock it with your code, and even if you accidentally leave it somewhere or a theif steals it right out from under you....they can't get in! And the best part? You can keep a backup at home, so if the case is lost or stolen your Tazos can be recovered! --- Finally there are **paper wallets** which are exactly how they sound - a piece of paper. You can either write out a long string of nUm8Ers aNd L3tTeRs with a trusty old pen or you can save time and print it out from your computer. These usually go hand-in-hand with an online wallet (like [MEW](https://www.myetherwallet.com/) for example) but if the paper is lost, and you don't have a photographic memory, there is no way to recover your coins. This is kind of like your leaving your Tazos at home with your mum and carefully writing down on a piece of paper how many Tazos you have and what kind they are. It's great if you want to store them away for a long time, they will be nice and safe at home! But it can be a pain in the butt if you want them handy to trade with your friends. ## Public Keys? Private Keys? Where is the lock? This is the last important thing we need to cover. I may have mislead you earlier when I said your coins are stored in YOUR wallet (whether it's on an exchange, on your phone, or even on a hardware wallet)...they aren't really ON your device at all! That's just where the **keys** are stored! Your coins are actually **always** stored online (in a public ledger on the blockchain - but I won't cover that right now) and they can be accessed with a "pair" of keys. One of these keys is a **public key** and one is a **private key**. Imagine your wallet is actually a glass room in a city full of glass rooms. The **public key** is simply the address of the wallet. Anybody who has it can walk up to it and look straight inside and see exactly how many coins are in there. These glass rooms have a little mail slot too so anybody can put coins in... but they can't go inside. The **private key** lets you unlock the door and enter the wallet, and once you are inside you can touch the coins and send them off to other wallets or trade them for different coins. If you keep your coins on an exchange then you only have access to the **public key**. This allows you to deposit coins, but if you want to trade with them it's like you are giving instructions to and exchange employee who will go inside and complete the task for you. You see why this isn't very safe? What if somebody else follows them inside? What if they accidentally give away the private key? ## What Now? -Get yourself a wallet or wallets (depending on which coins you have) -Hold your own private keys and make sure nobody else has access to them! It's a good idea to make a paper backup no matter what sort of wallet you have! -Hardware wallets are the best, but if you are happy with a software wallet or an online/paper wallet like [MEW](myetherwallet.com) then you should make sure you have a good antivirus/malware set up. You don't want anybody sneaking a peak at your private keys when you type them in! ## Good Luck! I hope I was able to help some of you understand wallets by giving you a slightly different perspective on things! I would really appreciate if you could give me an upvote! If you are feeling generous and want to give me a tip... who am I to refuse such a kind gesture? My Bitcoin and Ethereum **public** addresses are below, feel free to send some love my way! BTC - 15GDfQY6Xy6uxbVtpSu41krzy1vpZRUxLX ETH - 0x720655eea5706724fb99e2c79976b09af31d8219 Until next time... |

If you want to trade all you have to do is open the folder, pull out some Tazos and pop them into someone else's folder. It's more secure than leaving them with your teacher, because only you have the power to remove Tazos. But it is still not 100% safe... in this analogy you could leave the folder sitting somewhere, or you could misplace it, and someone could steal every last one.\n \n---\n \nA safer choice is a **hardware wallet** like a [Tresor](https://trezor.io/) or a [Ledger Nano S](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s). These are like USB drives that hold your coins and they are incredibly safe. Probably one of the best options if you have a lot of money invested in crypto.\n \nYou can picture these like a metal briefcase with a combination lock. You can carry it around with you, nobody can touch your Tazos unless you unlock it with your code, and even if you accidentally leave it somewhere or a theif steals it right out from under you....they can't get in! And the best part? You can keep a backup at home, so if the case is lost or stolen your Tazos can be recovered!\n \n---\n \nFinally there are **paper wallets** which are exactly how they sound - a piece of paper. You can either write out a long string of nUm8Ers aNd L3tTeRs with a trusty old pen or you can save time and print it out from your computer. These usually go hand-in-hand with an online wallet (like [MEW](https://www.myetherwallet.com/) for example) but if the paper is lost, and you don't have a photographic memory, there is no way to recover your coins.\n \nThis is kind of like your leaving your Tazos at home with your mum and carefully writing down on a piece of paper how many Tazos you have and what kind they are. It's great if you want to store them away for a long time, they will be nice and safe at home! But it can be a pain in the butt if you want them handy to trade with your friends.\n \n## Public Keys? Private Keys? Where is the lock?\n \nThis is the last important thing we need to cover. I may have mislead you earlier when I said your coins are stored in YOUR wallet (whether it's on an exchange, on your phone, or even on a hardware wallet)...they aren't really ON your device at all! That's just where the **keys** are stored!\n \nYour coins are actually **always** stored online (in a public ledger on the blockchain - but I won't cover that right now) and they can be accessed with a \"pair\" of keys. One of these keys is a **public key** and one is a **private key**.\n \nImagine your wallet is actually a glass room in a city full of glass rooms.\n \n\n \nThe **public key** is simply the address of the wallet. Anybody who has it can walk up to it and look straight inside and see exactly how many coins are in there. These glass rooms have a little mail slot too so anybody can put coins in... but they can't go inside.\n \nThe **private key** lets you unlock the door and enter the wallet, and once you are inside you can touch the coins and send them off to other wallets or trade them for different coins. \n \nIf you keep your coins on an exchange then you only have access to the **public key**. This allows you to deposit coins, but if you want to trade with them it's like you are giving instructions to and exchange employee who will go inside and complete the task for you. You see why this isn't very safe? What if somebody else follows them inside? What if they accidentally give away the private key?\n \n## What Now?\n \n-Get yourself a wallet or wallets (depending on which coins you have)\n-Hold your own private keys and make sure nobody else has access to them! It's a good idea to make a paper backup no matter what sort of wallet you have!\n-Hardware wallets are the best, but if you are happy with a software wallet or an online/paper wallet like [MEW](myetherwallet.com) then you should make sure you have a good antivirus/malware set up. You don't want anybody sneaking a peak at your private keys when you type them in!\n\n## Good Luck!\nI hope I was able to help some of you understand wallets by giving you a slightly different perspective on things!\n \nI would really appreciate if you could give me an upvote!\n \nIf you are feeling generous and want to give me a tip... who am I to refuse such a kind gesture? My Bitcoin and Ethereum **public** addresses are below, feel free to send some love my way!\n \nBTC - 15GDfQY6Xy6uxbVtpSu41krzy1vpZRUxLX\nETH - 0x720655eea5706724fb99e2c79976b09af31d8219\n \nUntil next time...",

| title | Crypto Crash Course for Aussies |
| body | # Crypto Crash Course for Aussies --- So it seems there are a lot of people lately who want to jump on the crypto bandwagon, strap on their moon boots and ride a rocket to Lambo Land, a wonderful place where everyone has a Lamborghini (preferably with a licence plate that says HODL). Now, if you come from a land down under, this might not be as **quite** as simple as you hoped. But never fear, it's only a small learning curve, I'll lay out a few of your options and let you know the pros and cons. ## Where do I start? There is a good chance you stumbled across cryptocurrency because you heard about Bitcoin. So let's start there! I'm not going to go into the intricate details about what Bitcoin actually is, or whether you should buy Ethereum instead, or which selection of altcoins are the best. That is entirely up to you, I just want to show you how to convert AUD into crypto! ## Exchanges An exchange is a marketplace for cryptocurrency, you can trade your fiat currency (dollar dollar bills y'all) for a variety of different crypto coins. The price of the coins fluctuates (just like the stock market) and that's how people are making money trading them. There are a so many exchanges to choose from, but a few of the more popular ones are (in alphabetical order) - [Binance](https://www.binance.com/) [Bitfinex](https://www.bitfinex.com/) [Bittrex](http://www.bittrex.com/) [BTCMarkets](https://www.btcmarkets.net/) [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/) [CoinJar](https://www.coinjar.com.au/) [CoinSpot](https://www.coinspot.com.au/) [HitBTC](https://hitbtc.com/exchange) [Independent Reserve](https://www.independentreserve.com/) [Kraken](https://www.kraken.com/) [Poloniex](https://poloniex.com/) Unfortunately for Aussies, not all of these exchanges will accept AUD. Here are the main exchanges that are AUD friendly: [BTCMarkets](https://www.btcmarkets.net/) [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/) [CoinJar](https://www.coinjar.com.au/) [CoinSpot](https://www.coinspot.com.au/) [Independent Reserve](https://www.independentreserve.com/) [LocalBitcoins](https://localbitcoins.com/) - not exactly an "exchange" but it can connect you to buyers and sellers The prices on these exchanges can vary quite a bit, and it is generally accepted that Aussies get the short end of the stick when it comes to the initial purchasing of crypto. But once you have that initial amount and you start trading it's not such a big deal, and if and when you decide to cash out, if you use the same exchange then it's all relative (you may have paid a higher than average price to begin with, but you will also be selling for that same higher than average price). ## Fees! The thing you need to be wary of is fees! They can be sneaky little buggers, and different exchanges charge different amounts for deposits, transfers and trading. I'll try to make it simple for you, if you would like more detailed information about fee structure click on the link in each heading. ###### BTC Markets - [Fee Structure](https://www.btcmarkets.net/fees) Deposit AUD from a bank account (POLi Payment) - $3.30 flat fee Withdrawing AUD to bank account - FREE Trading AUD pairs (AUD/BTC, AUD/ETH etc) - 0.85% trading fee (slowly decreases) Trading coin pairs (LTC/BTC, ETH/BTC etc) - 0.22% trading fee ###### Coinbase - [Fee Structure](https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/2109597-buy-sell-bank-transfer-fees) Credit/Debit Card Buys - 3.99% fee Coinbase does not allow you to convert coins back into AUD, it is for buying only. ###### CoinJar - [Fee Structure](https://support.coinjar.com/hc/en-us/articles/202671009-Understanding-CoinJar-s-fees) Deposit AUD from a bank account (BPay) - FREE* Withdraw AUD to bank account - 1% fee ###### CoinSpot - [Fee Structure](https://www.coinspot.com.au/fees) Deposit AUD from bank account (POLi Payment) - FREE Deposit AUD from bank account (BPay) - 2% fee Withdrawing AUD to bank account - FREE Trading AUD pairs - between 2% and 3% trading fee depending on the coins Trading coin pairs - 1% trading fee ###### Independent Reserve - [Fee Structure](https://www.independentreserve.com/Help#fees) Deposit AUD from bank account (POLi Payment) - $3.30 flat fee Withdraw AUD to bank account - FREE Trade Commission - starts at 0.5% (slowly decreases) ###### LocalBitcoins - [Fee Structure](https://localbitcoins.com/fees) Registering, buying, and selling Bitcoin - FREE If you make advertisements you are charged a 1% fee for every completed trade ## So which one do I use? That is up to you, each exchange has it's own pros and cons. I think BTC Markets is good because it uses a flat fee for deposits instead of charging a percentage. For example, if you deposit $2000 on BTCMarkets it will cost you $3.30 but if you spend $2000 on Coinbase then $79.80 will be taken in fees. BTCMarkets also allows you to set orders at specific prices, where Coinbase and CoinSpot are more like brokers, you take the price they set. CoinSpot has FREE deposit which is excellent but then you are looking at 2% to 3% on each trade you make between AUD and crypto. CoinSpot has a lot more coins than BTCMarkets or Coinbase, so if you are looking to buy a couple of particular altcoins and hold them long term then this may be the site for you. LocalBitcoins is cheap, but there is always a risk when buying from strangers. Majority of these trades are done by depositing money into their bank account, so you want to make sure they have a high rating or you meet them in person and exchange for cash. You will also notice the price of coins can vary quite a bit between exchanges, so you should carefully read the fee structures and compare the coin prices between each exchange (or "broker") and decide what you think is the most cost effective. ## I'm here to trade! In that case I would recommend you just purchase one coin from an AUD compatible exchange (Bitcoin and Ethereum are good options) then transfer it to a much larger exchange. My personal favourite is [Bittrex](http://www.bittrex.com/) because it has a lot of people (volume) and a huge range of coins. However I have listed several others above, and in time you may come to use them all for different reasons. Regardless, you will need to set up an account on one of those exchanges, find the address for the wallet that corresponds with the coin you have purchased and transfer it over. (For example if you bought Bitcoin from CoinSpot and you want to send it to Bittrex you would go to your Bittrex wallets, locate the Bitcoin wallet and copy the address.) From there you can start trading a range of different altcoins, but that is a much larger topic and you'll find plenty of information on that elsewhere, I'm trying to keep this as informative and basic as possible! ## Good Luck! Well that's the basics covered, hopefully it was of some help to you! This is my first "story" in steemit, I was curious to see how it all worked and thought this was a helpful topic to cover. If you found it useful I would appreciate you liking or upping this post below (I think I might actually earn money from this post if it becomes popular?). If I get some positive feedback I might write some more basic articles for you guys. I've got a nice, simple analogy in mind to explain wallets! If you would like to donate (Don't worry I don't expect anything from you! But it can't hurt to put it out there, right?) here are my Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses: BTC - 15GDfQY6Xy6uxbVtpSu41krzy1vpZRUxLX ETH - 0x720655eea5706724fb99e2c79976b09af31d8219 |

But it can't hurt to put it out there, right?) here are my Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses: BTC - 15GDfQY6Xy6uxbVtpSu41krzy1vpZRUxLX ETH - 0x720655eea5706724fb99e2c79976b09af31d8219 |

| body | # Crypto Crash Course for Aussies --- So it seems there are a lot of people lately who want to jump on the crypto bandwagon, strap on their moon boots and ride a rocket to Lambo Land, a wonderful place where everyone has a Lamborghini (preferably with a licence plate that says HODL). There are a so many exchanges to choose from, but a few of the more popular ones are (in alphabetical order) - [Binance](https://www.binance.com/) [Bitfinex](https://www.bitfinex.com/) [Bittrex](http://www.bittrex.com/) [BTCMarkets](https://www.btcmarkets.net/) [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/) [CoinSpot](https://www.coinspot.com.au/) [HitBTC](https://hitbtc.com/exchange) [Kraken](https://www.kraken.com/) [Poloniex](https://poloniex.com/) Unfortunately for Aussies, not all of these exchanges will accept AUD. Here are the main exchanges that are AUD friendly: [BTCMarkets](https://www.btcmarkets.net/) [Coinbase](https://www.coinbase.com/) [CoinSpot](https://www.coinspot.com.au/) [LocalBitcoins](https://localbitcoins.com/) - not exactly an "exchange" but it can connect you to buyers and sellers The prices on these exchanges can vary quite a bit, and it is generally accepted that Aussies get the short end of the stick when it comes to the initial purchasing of crypto. ###### CoinSpot - [Fee Structure](https://www.coinspot.com.au/fees) Deposit AUD from bank account (POLi Payment) - FREE Deposit AUD from bank account (BPay) - 2% fee Withdrawing AUD to bank account - FREE Trading AUD pairs - between 2% and 3% trading fee depending on the coins Trading coin pairs - 1% trading fee ###### LocalBitcoins - [Fee Structure](https://localbitcoins.com/fees) Registering, buying, and selling Bitcoin - FREE If you make advertisements you are charged a 1% fee for every completed trade ## So which one do I use?
