| title | The Basics of Essential Oils - How do essential oils work? |
| body | One drop of an essential oil has 40 million trillion molecules. 40,000,000,000,000,000,000! Essential oils are composed of very small molecules that can pass through all of our tissues and penetrate your cells and some compounds in essential oils can even cross the blood-brain barrier. They differ from fatty oils (like those in vegetables or nuts…olive oil, coconut oil, etc.) that come from large molecules because they cannot penetrate your cells so they are not therapeutic in the same manner. The fatty bi-layer under your skin pulls the essential oils through in order to circulate into our body’s vessels. This is why purity and quality matter. “Essential oils have a unique ability to penetrate cell membranes and travel throughout the blood and tissues. The unique lip-soluble structure of essential oils is very similar to the makeup of our cell membranes, and the molecules of essential oils are also relatively small, which enhances their ability to penetrate into the cells. When topically applied to the feet or soft tissue, essential oils can travel throughout the body in a many of minutes” (Life Science Publishers Essential Oil Desk Reference) Essential Oils are Adaptogenic. Because essential oils are live, have a frequency, and contain chemical constituents, they can adapt to what your body needs. Adaptogenic oils possess the power to both sedate and stimulate depending on the actions needed. For example, Lavender is known as the Swiss Army Knife of Essential Oils because it is an adaptogen. Lavender can be used for calming and relaxing AND to soothe skin. Lavender can adapt to the needs of the person using it. |

| title | The Basics of Essential Oils - Constituents |
| body | The BASICS of Essential Oils - Constituents The power of an essential oil lies in its constituents and their synergy. I am going to get a bit more science-y here….but stick with me. Essential oils can be subdivided into two distinct groups of chemical constituents; the hydrocarbons which are made up almost exclusively of terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes), and the oxygenated compounds which are mainly esters, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenols, and oxides. Did you just read that as blah, blah, too much science, blah? I know!.....Just keep reading. Why is this important? The more you know about the constituents of the oils, the more you know about how to use specific essential oils to maximize their benefits in order to improve your wellness and support the body’s systems. Knowing an oil’s constituents will help you decide which oils to blend together in order to maximize their benefits to your wellness. I will break down a few of the constituents: Esters – Esters are the most relaxing, calming and balancing of all the essential oil constituents. What Essential oils that have a High Percentage of Esters? Bergamot, Valerian and Roman Chamomile. Oils high in Phenol constituents are believed to boost the immune system and stimulate the nervous system. What oils are high in Phenols? Clove Vitality and Cinnamon Vitality. High Sesquiterpene oils can produce profound effects on emotions and hormonal balance. What oils are high in sesquiterpenes? Cedarwood, Patchouli, Vetiver, and Myrhh. High Oxide oils are known for ease of breathing. What oils are high in Oxides? Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Thyme. Here is an example of the Essential Oil Chemistry Profile of Grapefruit oil: Grapefruit contains 86-92% d-limonene! D-limonene is a highly regarded antioxidant and is a monoterpene. Grapefruit contains 90-95% monoterpenes, 3-8% Tetraterpenes, 1-3% Aldehydes, and less than 3% Furanocoumarins, Sesquiterpenones, Alcohols and Thiols. Based up the chemistry profile, Grapefruit has cleansing properties because it is a mostly made of monoterpenes! Add a drop of Grapefruit Vitality to your glass of water every day. If you want to learn more about constituents in order to determine which oils may best support your wellness needs, David Stewart's book “The Chemistry of Essential Oils (Made Simple)” is a great reference for you to have on hand. Note: This is taken from my own FB oil group. #loyaloilfamilies. It has also been shared with other oily groups. |

| title | What's the Frequency (Kenneth)? |
| body | The BASICS of Essential Oils - Frequency Being the nerdy girl I am, I found this to be extremely interesting. Once I understood frequency, it made me love oils more and forced me to choose oils based on my day, feeling, mood even more wisely. Frequency plays a part in the benefit, use and need for essential oils, and I am amazed! I hope I can break it down so you are amazed too. Every plant has specific vibrational, measurable frequency. The math person in me loves this! Everything live is vibrating. Because frequencies are measurable (in megahertz – MHz), the frequencies in both plants and the body’s cells can be mapped. Plants have a specific frequency and the cells in our body have a specific frequency. Processed/canned food – 0 MHz frequency (not live) Fresh Foods – 20-27 MHz Dry Herbs – 15-22 MHz Fresh Herbs – 20-27 MHz Essential Oils - start at 52 MHz and go as high as 580MHz! (580MHz is the frequency of Idaho Blue Spruce essential oil). The normal human body’s frequency ranges between 62-78 MHz. When this frequency drops, you drop below the wellness line (sickness can occur). Essential oils have the ability to change the frequencies within the body and bring them back into balance. The essential oil’s frequency can harmonize and synergize to our body’s systems in order for the body to return to a healthy range. Frequencies can be divided into 3 ranges: Low Frequency Oils that support physical change Mid Frequency Oils that promote emotional change High Frequency Oils that encourage spiritual growth According to Dr. Jim Bob Haggerton, by matching the frequency of an essential oil to the frequency of a specific body organ, you can push it back to health. Notice the lower frequency oils are close in frequency to the average body frequencies. You need your body’s frequency to be in normal range in order for the immune system to be working in top gear. When you fall below the wellness line, your body is at a lower frequency. When you eat processed foods, are around consumer products with chemicals, consume drugs or alcohol, or are around environmental pollutants, your body’s frequency drops. Essential oils can increase your frequency….in seconds! Essential oils are the best ammunition to keep our frequency normal and above that wellness line. Are you amazed and WOWed? Note: This is taken from my own FB oil group. #loyaloilfamilies. It has also been shared with other oily groups. |

| title | The BASICS - What is an essential oil? |
| body | An essential oil is the volatile, aromatic liquid that is inside shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. The essential oils circulate throughout the plant and provide it with protection against predators and disease, fight infection and initiate cell regeneration within the plant. Volatile simply means the ability to leap into the air. Essential oils have this ability and is the reason why you are able to smell oils across the room or just by opening the bottle. The essential oil of the plant acts as the plant’s immune system. The essential oil takes the plant’s protective properties – their natural defense mechanism – and is carefully extracted through steam distillation, cold pressing and resin tapping. It is this process that makes essential oils so powerful, concentrated and therapeutic. Why do essential oils improve the immune system? It is their job, their purpose, and how Mother Nature intended them to protect. The oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted. If a leaf or any part of a plant has been cut or damaged for some reason, the plant releases the essential oil and helps the plant to regenerate itself. This liquid is the essential oil that helps the plant to survive, which is why essential oils are called essential. Put simply, without the essential oils, the plant can't survive. By using essential oils, we are getting the complete chemical profile in every drop. Get on the oily train to healthy living! Note: This is taken from my own FB oil group. #loyaloilfamilies. It has also been shared with other oily groups. |

"title": "The BASICS - What is an essential oil?",
"body": "\n\nAn essential oil is the volatile, aromatic liquid that is inside shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. The essential oils circulate throughout the plant and provide it with protection against predators and disease, fight infection and initiate cell regeneration within the plant. Volatile simply means the ability to leap into the air. Essential oils have this ability and is the reason why you are able to smell oils across the room or just by opening the bottle.\n\nThe essential oil of the plant acts as the plant’s immune system. The essential oil takes the plant’s protective properties – their natural defense mechanism – and is carefully extracted through steam distillation, cold pressing and resin tapping. It is this process that makes essential oils so powerful, concentrated and therapeutic. \n\nWhy do essential oils improve the immune system? It is their job, their purpose, and how Mother Nature intended them to protect.\n\nThe oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted. If a leaf or any part of a plant has been cut or damaged for some reason, the plant releases the essential oil and helps the plant to regenerate itself. This liquid is the essential oil that helps the plant to survive, which is why essential oils are called essential. Put simply, without the essential oils, the plant can't survive.\n\nBy using essential oils, we are getting the complete chemical profile in every drop. Get on the oily train to healthy living!\n\nNote: This is taken from my own FB oil group. #loyaloilfamilies. It has also been shared with other oily groups.",

| body | So, I live in Eagle Country. Or is it Eagles Nation? I don't even know because I'm not an Eagles fan... shh, don't tell anyone. Anyways, a lot of people would say that yesterday's game was pretty exciting since they won and they are headed to the Super Bowl. Fireworks were going off, confetti guns were being shot, and animals everywhere were trembling with fear from these sounds. My point of this isn't really about the Super Bowl or the Eagles. My point is that animals hate loud sounds, especially when they don't know what they are or where they are coming from. Similarly, sleeping children who awake to the same noises and sounds also hate it but not as much as parents. Once you become a parent and spend all of your time and energy caring for other little humans, you start to see the world a little differently. You start to not care about celebrating things like sports wins, having people come over to watch the games, putting money on little squares hoping your numbers and corners line up. You start to care more about life and the daily grind, happiness, how to live a less-stressed life. Part of this includes making sure you have alone time once the kids go to bed so you can unwind and when that gets disrupted with fireworks and confetti guns, resulting in waking and crying children, you get pissed. So, yeah, I guess you could say I'm pissed off at the Eagles win. They put a kink in my routine. Fly away, Eagles. Fly away. |

| title | Think Inside the Box |
| body | Boxed wine is for college kids, they said. Boxed wine is for cheap wine drinkers who can’t afford real wine, they said. Boxed wine is - ohmigawd - gross, they said. There was a time in my life when I mirrored these sentiments but that is now a distant memory. I remember dreaming of drinking a fragrant glass of Bordeaux out of crystal stemware in a Parisian eatery or clinking glasses with the elite while dressed in a to-die-for gown custom-designed for my shape. I still dream about that and chances are, they will continue to be just that but that’s ok. I need to have something to live for, right? I have come to accept that wines out of a box aren’t all bad. Really. It just depends on your mood, your budget, and what you’re willing to be seen leaving the wine store carrying. I vividly recall buying boxed wines in college but only those on sale as I had to make sure I had enough money to pay my rent. My roommate and I took turns buying the boxes and consuming them together as we watched reruns of Sex and the City. Don’t judge. As someone who is now a working mom and wife in my 30s, I buy boxed wine because I actually like it. They also stack and store well unlike pesky bottles. You don’t have to re-cork them, there’s almost always room for them in the fridge if you prefer them chilled, and you can toss it in the recycle bin without fear of it shattering. Another plus is that they last longer albeit in freshness, not necessarily the number of days at home. With that said, here are only a few of the plethora of boxed wines that you can wrap your arms around but first let me throw out a caveat that I prefer red so the only ones I have enjoyed are red. I have yet to venture into the less-pigmented ones but one day, I’ll take that dive so that my taste buds can be more well-rounded. Also keep in mind that my budget is less than $25 a box so my rambling below is all for less than $25 a box. Some of these also come in bottles in case you want to have a smaller sample. My favorite at the moment is René Barbier Mediterranean Red. It’s a Spanish blend of Merlot and Tempranillo that you can drink all night long while binge-watching your spine-chilling show but it’s also one you can thoroughly enjoy while having dinner with your arm candy. It’s smooth and fresh with a medium body. It tastes like muted delicious berries but not sweet and it’s just plain nice. I am not afraid to show up at a party with this beauty but I always make sure I have a second box at home waiting for me in case others share your palate. Trust me. You won’t be disappointed. Next up is LAB. The box has a simple black profile of a Labrador dog standing in grass, and a legit handle to carry it instead of punching out the perforated flaps to hold on to. This is a finely produced wine from the Lisboa region of Portugal that tastes like ripe plums and berries. There’s a crispness to it that’s really refreshing. It’s a ruby or garnet colored wine that has never given me headache. I tend to switch back and forth between this and the Spanish blend as my go-to’s. Another great, easily drinkable yet enjoyable boxed wine is Folonari. Take your pick of the type of wine because there are many. There’s Pinot Noir (my favorite of this brand that I have appreciated and one with deeper fruit flavors), Merlot (a softer berry flavor),and Cabernet (a fresh and fruity flavor with hints of spice). Their bottles include even more varieties of red and white. These wines are from Italy and pair with any type of cuisine, in any type of social environment. It’s the cheapest of the boxes I buy but there’s no shame in my wine game. Folonari is one that I drink and cook with often, actually. They make great additions to stews, pasta sauces, and pot roast. Here’s an insider tip – If you think you’ve tapped the box and you’ve just poured the last glass, don’t fret. There’s still at least half a glass waiting inside the box. Skip the spout, and literally open the box to reveal the plastic bag. Pull that out and you’ll find be quick to find that more tasty teaspoons gather in the corners of that bag. My suggestion is to grab some scissors and snip the corner, pouring it into your glass. You’ve come this far, why waste it? Think inside the box. You might be surprised. |

"body": "\n\nBoxed wine is for college kids, they said. \n\nI have come to accept that wines out of a box aren’t all bad. \n\nWith that said, here are only a few of the plethora of boxed wines that you can wrap your arms around but first let me throw out a caveat that I prefer red so the only ones I have enjoyed are red. I have yet to venture into the less-pigmented ones but one day, I’ll take that dive so that my taste buds can be more well-rounded. Also keep in mind that my budget is less than $25 a box so my rambling below is all for less than $25 a box. Some of these also come in bottles in case you want to have a smaller sample.\n\nMy favorite at the moment is René Barbier Mediterranean Red. Trust me. You won’t be disappointed.\n\nNext up is LAB. \n\nAnother great, easily drinkable yet enjoyable boxed wine is Folonari. \n\nHere’s an insider tip – If you think you’ve tapped the box and you’ve just poured the last glass, don’t fret. You’ve come this far, why waste it?\n\nThink inside the box. You might be surprised.",

| body | Growing up, my family's traditions were all over the place. One year, we would open one present on Christmas Eve, the next year we wouldn't. The following year, we tried to make it a "thing" by baking cookies and watching a movie, and the next year, we purchased store-bought cookies. Whatever the reasons were, our traditions changed every year but they were always about family. As a parent of three young children, I search for what kinds of traditions I want to start for us and all I keep seeing is the damn Elf. Family members ask "are you getting one?", "do you have one?" and when I staunchly say no and stand my ground (because I certainly don't have time or energy for that nonsense), I get the evil side eye. Sorry, Charlie. You can give me all the evil eyes and call me all of the nasty Grinch-type names you want but this mama ain't having it. I'm already struggling with how I should show and tell my kids the whole Santa thing and who/what brings gifts. I don't like lying to my children but I also want them to experience the magic of the season. Anyways, I digress. This Elf... most of my mom friends have one and in a couple of cases, they have two. I will never understand the pressure and stress they deliberately put themselves through but hey, to each their own. As I sip my wine *correction - as I chug my wine * with my rear on the loveseat, you others will be perusing online ideas on how to be creative and trying to remember to pose that Elf in a spot that wasn't previously used. You'll carefully place that Elf next to Barbie or a Lego figurine... are Barbies and Legos still a big thing? I know they were in the 80s when I was a kid. You'll think twice about putting the Elf in a promiscuous yet hilarious position because your significant other will find it extremely laughable even though your kids will either not understand or be totally embarrassed. There may even be several nights where you'll forget to move it because you, like me, were sipping * correction - chugging * wine and fell asleep only to be awakened by the pitter patter of toddler footsteps in the early minutes of sunrise. You see, this Elf just causes problems. And lies. Oooh, the Elf is watching and reports back to Santa. That's two, maybe three lies wrapped up in one statement. The Elf is not watching and he doesn't report back to Santa, who by the way, is not real. One day, they'll grow up and realize one of two things - that you were the coolest parents to let them experience the magic of Santa and that damn Elf or you were the coolest parents to be real and honest in life. Then again, it could also backfire and they could think you suck. Anyways, Elf schmelf. Let me get back to my wine. Have fun, folks. |
