      "body": "![MinexPay - Operational Update (Medium).png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbM5oAzVTtA3u8nGGkmVALnu9wWd2G6iLcM7HHBr1WKqi/MinexPay%20-%20Operational%20Update%20(Medium).png)\n\nWe’ve been working on our [MinexPay](https://minexpay.com) crypto-card project for a while now and we would like to give you an update on what we’ve accomplished over the past time from the operational side. In this post we will mainly focus on our relationships with partners and the difficulties the project has faced in terms of looking for partners. We will also outline the operational milestones that we’re going to reach with MinexPay in the near future.\n\n## The Long Road to Finding a Partner\n\nWe started negotiating with potential partners and service providers for MinexPay back in the spring. This is a more time-intensive process than you can imagine. Even if we’re just talking about the partner we ended up deciding to work with, we spent over two months in negotiations before starting to actually work on the project. We weren’t surprised by this — there were an awful lot of conditions and nuances to check, balance, and approve. The project faced the following difficulties while searching for partners:\n\n*They stopped listening when they heard the word “cryptocurrency”.*\n\nMany of the companies we talked to ended the discussion as soon as they realized that the project was somehow related to cryptocurrency. For them, cryptocurrency is still an entirely new thing, and not many companies in the conservative financial world have had to deal with it yet. After all, this isn’t just another risk for them. It’s a risk that they’re not able to estimate, i.e. an unacceptable risk. But we got through it.\n\n## Legal absurdity\n\nBecause of the undetermined legal status of cryptocurrencies, it can be tough to find appropriate jurisdictions and combine them into a single operating service. It’s also hard to determine the legal field in which to conclude agreements and conduct all future activity of the card service. The legislation in some jurisdictions is just absurd. Get this: a jurisdiction will determine the legal status of cryptocurrencies and implement laws that allow companies to license their crypto-related activity. But not one bank in the same jurisdiction (i.e. the entire country) allows the same company to open an account in which to do business! We’ve already had to deal with a couple of jurisdictions like this.\nOn top of that, in some jurisdictions partners have no right to issue cards to international customers — and this even applies to fiat cards!\n\n## Technical issues\n\nBecause of certain facets of crypto-card projects there is a range of technical requirements that need to be done only by the card issuer in order for the service to operate at all. Try to imagine how hard it is to find a reliable partner who not only agrees to discuss a crypto-related project, but is also willing to adjust its systems to meet to the needs of the project. And then there’s the complexity of these technical tasks and their long approval process, with lots of bureaucratic procedures, cost inefficiency, and massive development time frames. This is what differentiates software development in the financial sector from any other field.\n\n## Unacceptable commissions\n\nIt’s no secret that the higher the risk a project has for partners and service providers, the higher their commissions will be for this project. But you wouldn’t like having to use a card with, say, a 10%, 15%, or 20% transaction fee, would you? Of course, you wouldn’t, and neither would we. That’s why our criteria for choosing a partner were extremely strict. As a result, the number of partners that met our standards was very small. There are numerous reasons why 80% of the partners we considered were declined or refused on their own.\n\n## What’s next?\n\nWe are negotiating with several card issuers. To answer your questions in advance, we want to focus your attention that the card issuer may not necessarily be a banking institution.\n\nA bank contract is a possible way to provide customers with a popular payment management tool, but not the only one. Other financial institutions, such as credit unions or payment service providers (PSPs), can work with Visa or Mastercard directly as well. For example, Visa can serve any company that services third parties’ accounts legally. Thus, we explore different directions to find a convenient solution for MinexPay’s customers.\n\nWe plan the following:\n* to finalize the Minex Web Wallet according to the public test results;\n* to find an agreement among the potential card issuers;\n* to work out the legal aspects;\n* to prepare cards delivery to customers;\n* to finalize funds transferring issues to ensure service operates smoothly;\n* to test all of the system’s integrations and the first cards internally;\n* to deliver the first cards.\n\nWe’ll keep you updated on Minexpay’s progress and development. Minex Web Wallet public test officially starts. We would like to invite you to join us and test your payments!\n\n## Minex Web Wallet as the Key to Smooth Operation\n\nSmooth operation of Minex Web Wallet is the most important element of the MinexPay ecosystem. There are currently a lot of discussions underway about crypto cards — but what is in fact a crypto card? Generally speaking, since there aren’t any existing cryptocurrency banks, crypto cards must resort to using fiat money (USD dollars or Euros). It means that cards with the real balance in bitcoin in any bank account cannot yet exist, but it is possible to provide users with an opportunity to use their cryptos as regular money with a special service.\n\nIn MinexPay’s case, such service is Minex Web Wallet. It ensures flawless operation of our subsystems that exchange, transfer and control all the money movements in the wallet itself. We designed it to relieve MinexPay users from such inconveniences as waiting for too long next to an ATMs.\n \nAnother advantage of MinexPay is if the wallet subsystems work impeccably, we can add virtually any card as the issuer does not matter. Such design also doesn’t really require a contract with a bank unless we are ready to issue branded cards. Precisely for that reason, we decided to initiate a public test with the typical fiat cards. We chose PrivatBank Mastercard euro currency cards.\n\n**Disclaimer:** PrivatBank cards cannot be treated as crypto cards. Cryptocurrencies will not be sent to the users’ bank accounts as the exchange will occur with the help of our liquidity providers. These cards will be issued personally for each individual who would like to participate in the Minex Web Wallet public test and have passed bank’s KYC procedure. Therefore, we can test all the subsystems without the bank partnership freely and in law at the current stage.\n\nNaturally, MinexPay users will still get a new MinexPay branded card after the test complete. We believe that this test will confirm that everything is set up correctly and our Minex Web Wallet will work as intended — fast and easy. And even though we’ve been recently focusing primarily on MinexPay cards, they’re part of an entire complex system where all solutions are interconnected in one way or another.\n\nToday, the highlight is on MinexWallet, a product that allows storing your crypto assets online without installing a desktop version and that is as secure as traditional wallets.\n\nWe are continuing to develop MinexWallet as a complete platform for working with MinexPay cards. For this purpose, we are adding the card functionality to the wallet, the beta version of which has been [tested](https://medium.com/minecoin-blog/announcement-launch-of-minexcoin-web-wallet-beta-release-42b1dcab1b0f) by our community. We will then connect the bank API with this functionality at the same time creating support services to ensure the work of this platform.\n\nAnd we will top it all off with some MinexWallet’s development updates!\n\n## Connecting Synchronizer with the Bitcoin blockchain\n\nIn the first version, we are implementing the Bitcoin blockchain for the private and public testing purposes. Synchronizer is our internal microservice-middleman that provides an interlayer between the blockchain and our microservices needed for the wallet’s operation.\n\nThis is what we’ve been facing so far: the Bitcoin blockchain is currently 280 GB. We are running all these blocks through our Synchronizer, and it takes a significant amount of time — already a couple of weeks, considering that we are using all our servers. Currently, we’ve already passed 250,000 blocks, so the halfway point is already behind us — yet not without issues.\n\nAs it is an external blockchain, we need to be sure of security of our users’ crypto funds and successful transactions. Our Synchronizer has gone mad once it has found two blocks with the same transaction on the Bitcoin’s blockchain. This issue has been resolved in the Bitcoin blockchain, but it has left the [traces](https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block-index/106692%2520%25D0%25B8%2520https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block-index/106662) in the network. Therefore, we had to change the logic of our Synchronizer for the Bitcoin blockchain.\n\n## Setting up a Bitcoin test net to test the wallet\n\nDuring this process, we have re-compiled our node because during installation it was adding extra peers, which were listed in the code of the Bitcoin network.\n\n## Finishing touches for the functionality of bank operators\n\nIn some cases, you cannot bypass operators’ work, such as identifying suspicious payments, their validation, and handling some manual payments. Although users do not see them at work, it is still being done. Our internal functionality can ease the operators’ work.
