| body |

Litecoin (LTC) is a decentralized, easy-to-mine and fast-growing cryptocurrency that outperformed many altcoins in 2017. In December 2017, Litecoin hit its highest price to date, up more than 8000% in value compared to the previous year. Right now it is one of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap.

This rapid increase in value alongside sensational headlines about the crypto market has caught the attention of miners and investors. It is essentially a carbon copy of Bitcoin but with some notable improvements. With reported transaction times at just a quarter of those for Bitcoin, Litecoin is overall faster and cheaper for people to use. This makes it an attractive coin for future use in the global economy.

While there are many altcoins being launched yearly, Litecoin has been gaining traction for the last 7 years, becoming an established cryptocurrency. Despite some recent price fluctuations in the altcoin market, Litecoin has retained its value over less established coins. Because Litecoin is supported by a wide variety of exchanges, it is easy to buy and sell, making it an ideal coin for experienced and novice investors alike.

Having the ability to spend altcoins easily, alongside cheaper and faster transactions, may be what finally gives altcoins the edge over fiat currencies. With an ever-increasing list of places, you can spend Litecoin, more and more retailers are recognizing its usefulness.

What is Litecoin?

Litecoin, like other cryptocurrencies, is a peer-to-peer, decentralized cryptocoin. This means that Litecoin is not controlled by a central bank or government. Instead, each transaction is saved to the blockchain, a global ledger that verifies all transactions.

Bitcoin takes around 10 minutes to confirm each transaction. Litecoin, by comparison, takes around a quarter of the time, around two and a half minutes, to confirm a transaction. This makes it cheaper to use and faster to mine. This is good news for miners looking to join the cryptocurrency revolution.

When did Litecoin appear and how?

Litecoin was created in late 2011 by former Google employee Charlie Lee, who first entered the cryptocurrency market by getting into Bitcoin mining. His vision for Litecoin was to improve the Bitcoin blockchain and to increase the cap on the total coin supply. Coming to life just two years after the creation of Bitcoin, Litecoin has managed to remain one of the top-rated cryptocurrencies.

Charlie believes that Litecoin operates as a complementary cryptocurrency to Bitcoin. This vision would see Litecoin, with its increased availability, being suited to small transactions like online shopping, with Bitcoin being the more suitable currency for heftier transactions, such as international payments.

Charlie Lee continues to take interest in the technology supporting Litecoin. As of June 2017, he is working full time to oversee the development of the Litecoin cryptocurrency as Managing Director of the Litecoin Foundation. This is reassuring for adopters of Litecoin as continued improvements are being made to improve the technology, with exciting new developments and partnerships on the horizon.

The recently announced partnership with TenX will bring about a payment platform and l introduce a Litecoin payment card. This could potentially see Litecoin owners using their cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services at online and traditional retailers, in the same way, they would use their debit cards.

Features and Important issues in the network

Litecoin has a lifetime cap of 84 million coins. This amount is the total that can be mined and is four times larger than Bitcoin, which has a cap of 21 million coins. As there are fewer bitcoins available, they are more expensive to mine, more valuable and much more difficult for small investors to obtain. The increased availability and lower price of Litecoin are therefore ideal for those who want to enter the cryptocurrency market.

Litecoin isnโt just good news for investors and miners. Around 3 billion people in the developing world have very limited access to banks and cash machines. Free access to cryptocurrencies could revolutionize banking in these countries, offering an inexpensive way for them to send and receive money and pay for goods.

Litecoin Network Specs

As of June 18, total Litecoin in existence is nearly 57 million with a market capitalization of nearly $5.4 billion, trading at a price of $95.17 USD. Litecoin blockchain can handle higher transaction volume than Bitcoin. Also, the network supports more transactions without requiring any modification to the software in the future. Another fun fact is the average transaction value of 48 LTC or about $4,500. Litecoin blockchain can handle higher transaction volume than Bitcoin. | title | Bitcoin Mining: From GPU farms to ASIC & Cloud Mining |
| body |

Cryptocurrency is one of the shortest ways to increase your capital drastically, though it is associated with great risks. The most popular and the first mined crypto is Bitcoin (BTC). It was the first and stays the first of all coins.

There are more than 17 million Bitcoins already mined, out of the total sum of 21 million. Every day on this planet 144 bitcoins are generated, each costs $9,300 at the current exchange rate by the 14th of February, 2018. Each mined block rewards the miner with 12.5 BTC until the year 2020 when the block reward will be halved to 6.25 BTC.

Starting 2016, Bitcoin (BTC) solo mining is no longer profitable for regular miners. Even if you have a PC with several top GPUs or even a handmade mining rig, itโs still not enough.

Calculation for BTC solo mining on the top configuration ASIC.
The estimation above represents profitability statistics for Nvidia GeForce 1070 Ti.

The mining hardware arms race, as well as free market competition among manufacturers, is not an empty phrase, as Bitcoin mining demands tremendous amount of hash rate. There is already no point in measuring hashing power in hashes per second or Mhash/s, you must have at least 1+ GH/s computing power to mine Bitcoin successfully. This can be achieved by buying multiple ASICs.This comes with additional risk like changes in the hashing algorithm of Bitcoin which will make mining unavailable on previously used ASICs.So Bitcoin solo miners and small mining pools switched to mining altcoins like Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Bitcoin Gold, Zcash, Monero, etc. Now itโs a job for industrial-level solutions.

There are several huge Bitcoin (BTC) mining pools operating independently, but they are not really effective for common users due to the difficulty they require from your hardware.

Just look at the Antpoolโs difficulty of 4.02 terahashes.

Although Bitcoin (BTC) is a decentralized cryptocurrency, in fact, itโs more than centralized in China โ about 80% of BTCs are mined on Chinese mining pools and collected on Chinese servers.

China dominates Bitcoin hashrate with significant breakaway

Think twice!

Itโs way smoother and faster to buy Bitcoin rather than mine it โ leave this work to industrial miners, who can monthly burn out thousands of dollars for electricity bills.

Bitcoin vs. Altcoins?

If you still look forward to mining Bitcoin, consider cloud mining as an alternative option. Though investors and miners are searching for alternate methods of obtaining BTC.The thing is that there are dozens of other cryptocurrencies, which are mostly exchangeable to Bitcoin on public exchanges. And most of them are profitable and demand less hashrate than Bitcoin mining does. You may spend days, weeks and months to mine zero-somewhat of BTC and gain 1/100 of its price or connect to the mining pool for Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Monero (XMR), Monero Original (XMO) or ZCash (ZEC) and by the same time make real profit on them.In short, for those of you who donโt have industrial scale ASIC farms, itโs better to buy BTC instead of mining it.

How to start mining altcoins?

There are two main ways to mine altcoins effectively: connect to a mining pool or buy cloud mining contracts. As far as cloud mining demands some additional investments (mostly in BTC, which, letโs say, we donโt have at the start), the most obvious option is joining a mining pool.Just mine whatever altcoin suits better for your mining hardware in terms of profitability and exchange it for Bitcoins. However, there are several altcoins that are profitable themselves.Letโs take the popular GPU NVIDIA GeForce 1080 Ti (with 8 GB DDR5) and compare its hashrate results relatively to mining profitability for Monero (XMR).

NVIDIA GeForce 1080 Ti x1

Per Pool Fee Est. | body |

Today Bitcoin Gold is one of the easiest coins to mine! Due to its new Proof of Work algorithm any person with a CPU or GPU can start mining it. This bitcoin fork was created to โmake bitcoin decentralized againโ.

What is Bitcoin Gold?

Bitcoin mining these days is almost completely controlled by industrialized miners and by manufacturers who sell products to them. Solo miners just canโt compete with large companies, and their specialized computers โ with application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), built specifically for mining.

The new hard fork of Bitcoin, named Bitcoin Gold, was created to change this situation. BTG`s main purpose is not to compete with Bitcoin, but to help the crypto space avoid the monopolizing tendencies of ASIC mining, to return mining power to ordinary hardware and finally โmake bitcoin decentralized againโ. To reach their goals, Bitcoin Gold developers use a new proof-of-work algorithm, Equihash, which allows individuals with standard laptop computers to successfully compete with professional rig systems.

When and how Bitcoin Gold appeared

Bitcoin Gold was born October 24, 2017. The founder, Jack Liao, also owns Lightning ASIC โ a company selling GPU miners and ASIC miners. There are five other co-founders, including an anonymous lead developer.Bitcoin Gold resembles BTC in many aspects, but its mining algorithm is completely different: it can`t be run faster on the specialty mining equipment. It allows to spread mining of Bitcoin Gold among many individuals. In April 2018 BTG already had 246 reachable nodes with the highest concentration in Germany and the USA.

According to the official website, the cryptocurrency is trading live on almost 40 exchanges and available through the following wallet services: Trezor Wallet, Ledger Wallet, Coldlar, Exodus, Coinomi, Bitpie, Guarda, Freewallet, Kasse, Cobo.

According to Coinbase, the platform is finally going to allow users to withdraw forks of the Bitcoin protocol; and Bitcoin Gold for Coinbase is the first candidate for this.

n Q2 2018 BTG going to develop Payment systems integrations with a debit card program.

Bitcoin Gold market capitalization is obviously on the rise. Right now it ranked the 23rd cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

To start mining BTG is pretty easy as itโs one of the MinerGate-supported coins.

Features and important issues

The Proof of Work algorithm

The main change in BTG is a new hashing algorithm. With the standard Bitcoin algorithm, the usage of complex hardware (CPU, GPU) was a waste of resources; it was much more effective to create specific hardware for mining (ASIC). But Bitcoin Gold uses a Proof of Work algorithm called Equihash. Itโs memory-oriented i.e. Bitcoin Gold mining depends on how much RAM a computer has and how many things it can do to complete a task. ASICs with their pure processing power are ineffective here, but desktop computers with multiple processing cores solve the tasks easily. Equihash supports fair mining infrastructure and gives individual miners an opportunity to compete.

New difficulty adjustment algorithm

The new mining difficulty adjustment algorithm was implemented: without it, larger miners would be able to influence the mining difficulty to get greater gains.

Replay protection

Until the fork occurs, Bitcoin Gold is a copy of the Bitcoin blockchain: it uses almost identical address formats and network protocols. To prevent loss of funds when the same transaction is broadcast to two different networks, BTG developers have added 2-way โreplay protectionโ. An algorithm calculates the hash of a transaction to identify it, and that is why transactions on one chain are invalid on the other chain.

Recent โ51% attackโ

A few days ago Bitcoin Gold was hit with a 51% attack. The hackers controlled more than half of the networkโs hashing power, which allowed them to steal up to $18 million from online exchanges. With 51% of power, attackers could make reversing transactions, spending the same coins more than once: they made deposits, traded the coins for BTC or another coin, withdrew the funds and then returned those coins back in their wallet. In a normal situation the blockchain would include only the first transaction in the block, but now, with the attackersโ majority control, double-spending became possible.

Details of the upcoming network update

In response to the attack, developers are going to change their Proof of Work algorithm again. If more individual miners join the network instead of massive mining conglomerates, it will be much harder for attackers to obtain such control again. And if now BTG shares Equihash with other coins (so that the pool of its power is much bigger than BTG network hashpower), after an upgrade there will be a different algorithm without such a large amount of power. It will make BTG much more protected from 51% attacks. One of the main purposes of the upcoming upgrade is to make Equihash even more ASIC-resistant so that BTG could not be mined on new ASIC hardware. According to BTG blog, โOur upgrade may make the current crop of miners useless for mining BTG, but this does not prevent them (or others) from trying again. The Bitcoin Gold Organization is committed to repeating this process as necessary. In time, anyone buying BTG-specific miners will learn that their investment is always lost, and the producers of this hardware will see that huge spending to develop custom hardware doesnโt lead to the profits theyโre hoping to grabโ.The BTG 2018 Roadmap announced that later this year they are going to finalize integrations to fully implement Lightning Network (this will enable almost instant payments with lower fees). They will also bring support for P2Pool, a decentralized approach to mining pools, that works by creating a peer-to-peer network of miner nodes.

Network Specs

Now the total Bitcoin Gold in existence is more than 17 million, with a market capitalization of nearly $736 million, trading at a price of $43.17 USD. Its average transaction value is 55.40 BTG ($2,310 USD). The current block time (average time between blocks) is 9 minutes 17 seconds via block size of 5.417 Kbytes. Block reward is 12.5 BTG ($521.36 USD).

Join the community of MinerGate and connect your workers for profitable mining!

|

| body |

Cryptocurrency is a form of digital currency based on the principle that a coin occupies a block of digital space. A good guess will lead you to the conclusion that the blockchain is simply a digital ledger where the transactions are recorded chronologically and publicly.

This sets the scene for the concept of a sidechain, albeit with a lot of confusion about exactly what it means, whether they are trustworthy, and why they seem to be necessary.

Sidechains have been an integral part of blockchain technology capabilities since inception. Initially, they were put in place to overcome system limitations on the time it took to settle transactions.

So, a sidechain allows agreeing parties to send each other transactions privately without the need to put the transactions on the blockchain. Remember that the result can be put on blockchain by anyone of the parties in the future if they decide to do so.

Sidechains sound confusing, donโt they?

Well yes, it can seem a bit complicated. So, letโs think of this who process like getting a loan from the bank in order to create value. For example, I have agreed with the bank to commit to some value between us (this is called pegging in blockchain jargon). I then do all sorts of weird and wonderful things to create value for me, independent of the bank โ as long as the account is settled in full, the main blockchain doesnโt need to verify everything in real time. In crypto-speak, the bank represents the players providing the blockchain assets (e.g. a number of coins at an agreed price), I then do what I need to, without waiting for transaction settlements or worry about price volatility, and possibly most importantly, without the need for anyone really knowing who else is involved (at this point). Then, should I decide to do so, I can the details public.

Why would you need a sidechain?

Until recently, sidechains were used primarily to test Beta releases of altcoins or software updates, and as you can imagine, this is quite useful to prevent inadvertent downtime. (If you are aware of the lag when coins introduce new algorithms or new functionality, you will understand how this could create undue negative publicity which in turn might be detrimental to the coinโs reputation.)

You may also have read from time to time that transaction settlement times have lagged, or perhaps noticed a purchase or sale of coins was delayed. The use of sidechains through the use of parallel computing could reduce this by taking authority/responsibility for a subset of transactions โ much like going to a different branch of the bank because the queues are quicker.

So in short, the theory is that either that they will hit the ledger eventually, or that it doesnโt matter if they hit the ledger, as long as both parties can get on with what they need to do.

Letโs take another example to explain this. Say Iโm a retailer selling clothing in a traditional fashion, I have a lot of upfront costs, overheads and ancillary costs associated with each sale. If I were to take payment via cryptocurrency rather than fiat, the buyerโs perception of the productโs cost would change on a minute by minute basis. By pegging the value of my outlays ahead of sales, I can offset some of the risks of price changes on costs. Bitmain, an ASIC miner supplier, do limited variations of this with some of their products โ so you will find that the fiat amount to purchase an item will vary. However, they also revalue their products frequently, so when you spot that deal, you need to make that transaction quickly.

By allowing payment by crypto, I can broaden the appeal. If we take a look at Bitcoin prices, the highest price was over the US $19k in December 2017; in May 2018, the price was not above the US $10k. A sidechain wonโt stop the value of Bitcoin waxing and waning, but it will allow me to not worry about the settlement times to the main blockchain so that I can smooth my business. I might then decide to fluctuate the amount of coin needed, rather than the amount of fiat needed to purchase items. At that point, I can decide whether to sell off the coin or retain for future gains in value.

As you might expect, massive growth is expected for sidechains to prove the foundation for massive blockchain scalability, to allow these types of โsmart contractsโ and the settling of transactions more quickly and at reduced rates etc.

Security and hedging of risk are other important being sought โ with scams becoming ever more supplicated, these important features will help allay the fears for those who have not investigated the strategic value of cryptocurrencies to. Already, some countries are introducing regulatory control for crypto businesses and trading.

How do sidechains really work?

With so many possibilities and so many possible ways to implement a sidechain, there are only a few key players involved. Letโs call them the โuserโ (e.g. the customer), the โgatekeeperโ (e.g. all the bits in the middle), and the โsupplierโ (e.g. like the bank). First the user triggers a function to lock a value (deposit) coins from the main blockchain (e.g. BTC, ETH, etc) into the sidechain to buy local units of whatever cryptocurrency takes their fancy โ usually called the โaltcoinโ (for alternative coin whose features could include lower fees, faster settlement, anonymous transaction, more robust security, etc). Next, these units are transferred from the user to a โgateโ contract with the main coin network.Simply put the transactions agreed between the user and the supplier are monitored by the gatekeeper to ensure that the gate contract is fulfilled on both sides by the authorized parties.Potential applications for sidechains are evolving almost faster than the technology allows, extending blockchain technology far beyond the vision of the founders. From financial services to secure storage of personal information, new worlds of possibilities are being developed on a daily basis. Virtually every new ICO (initial coin offering) in 2018 comes with the promise to implement smart contracts, scaling for data-intensive projects, incorporating anti-counterfeiting properties, etc.Coming back to the here and now, here are some platforms already/soon to be ready for commercial purposes to give you something more to think about.

Rootstock (RSK) is based on Bitcoin and rewards miners via merged mining. With ever increasing government and regulatory pressure, Monero offers a privacy solution in the form of ring signatures, ring confidential transactions, and stealth addresses to obfuscate the origins, amounts, and destination addresses of all transactions on the network.

Key features of Monero include:

Security

Privacy

Untraceability

Fungibility

Often hailed as the King of Privacy within the crypto community, Monero has recently come under close scrutiny for the distribution of hash power across the network. With the recent release by CoinHive of a Javascript library that allows website owners to harness the CPU power of its users to mine Monero, it is clear that malware developers are utilizing this opportunity to make some serious money mining the coin, often by unsuspecting users.

Security experts are discovering that some of the largest malware and malvertising groups are deploying the CoinHive script on a global scale. Online security firm Kaspersky has reported seeing over 1.65 million computers infected with cryptocurrency mining malware. As you can see from the most recent data below from the website MoneroHash, nearly 92% of the hashrate across the network is from โunknownโ sources. Many security experts in the space believe that the majority of this mining is being done using malware.

The original idea behind the CoinHive script library was to provide websites the option to forego advertising in exchange for users mining cryptocurrency. This would provide website owners the option of having a cleaner looking website without a lot of advertising distracting the users. This seems like a good idea in practice, but only if users โopt inโ to the service. Malware developers have basically taken the code and modified it so that website users are unaware that they are mining the coin.

Taking it a step further, malware groups are embedding the mining script into typosquatting domains. These are domain names that are registered as common โtyposโ that a user might enter when trying to reach a website. For instance, someone recently registered the domain name โtwitter.com.comโ and embedded the CoinHive script into the webpage. Users that incorrectly entered the Twitter.com domain name would be unsuspecting miners of Monero, with all of the mining proceeds going to the hacker. Although the user would quickly realize that they were on the wrong site, with hundreds or thousands of these domain names registered, you can see how the mining revenue could add up pretty quickly.

Why Monero?

Many security experts believe that there are two main reasons that malware developers are utilizing the Monero XMR coin for covert mining. First of all, the coin can be easily mined using a CPU. With most of the worldโs computers lacking GPUs and ASIC components, this is the perfect coin to mine when launching a global malware attack of this nature. Literally ANY computer or smartphone can mine Monero. Second of all, Monero contains three very powerful privacy components that allow everything the malware developer does to essentially be invisible. Monero hides the sender, the amount being sent, and the recipient. Although privacy is one of the most important features that a cryptocurrency can have, it is a double-edged sword in that it allows hackers and malware developers to work in the shadows.

How do you protect yourself?

Many users want to know how they can protect themselves in this ever-changing landscape, so Iโve listed a few of the best resources below:

AdBlock Plus and AdGuard are popular ad blockers that provide detection of the CoinHive Javascript library

AntMiner, No Coin, and minerBlock provide Chrome extensions that scan your browser and terminate anything that looks like Coinhiveโs miner script

Another way to protect yourself is to make sure that you are viewing correct web domains. Use bookmarks to browse to your favorite sites instead of typing the domain name into the search bar. This will ensure that you do not type the wrong address and go to a typosquatted domain. In addition, you can periodically monitor the processes running on your computer. If you are only using a web browser, and your CPU power is maxed out, there is a good chance that you could be inadvertently mining Monero or have some other malware running in the background.

How can you profit from mining Monero?

Many would argue that the distribution of the hashrate across a large number of computers only helps to strengthen the decentralized nature of the coin and is in fact a good thing. Whatever your views on the current state of Monero, it is still a highly profitable coin to mine for the everyday computer user. Instead of mining for malware developers, why not mine it for yourself and reap all the benefits!

On the popular website MinerGate, Monero XMR is currently listed as the most profitable coin to mine with a CPU. You can check out how much you can earn by using their Mining Profitability Calculator.

MinerGate makes it incredibly easy to mine cryptocurrencies by doing all of the work for you. It also mines the most profitable coin according to your hardware. | body |

Blockchain tech has been making waves as it is rapidly implemented into business models, governing systems, and educational endeavors all over the world. There is no question that this tech, which was born as the driving force of cryptocurrency, is fundamentally changing the world. However, with the inherent need for transparency that blockchain can provide, the question remains: Exactly how public are some of our transactions? Do we want that? When it comes to currency there are two forms we are all fairly familiar with, regardless of where you are from: Cash and Card.

Transactions made with a credit or debit card carry several guaranteed โprotectionsโ while remaining transparent with details on every transaction made. On the other hand, transactions made in cash are practically untraceable. Bitcoin BTC and its blockchain protocols are like a decentralized version of the debit card system. While you are guaranteed certain levels of security, your transactions are far less anonymous than many have been led to believe. So what becomes the replacement for cash when fiat currencies are no more? Enter CryptoNote.

CryptoNote is not a new cryptocurrency. It is a new protocol; a blockchain with a difference! Coins created on the CryptoNote platform perform much like cash, allowing for total anonymous transactions. This is achieved by the implementation of โring signaturesโ. Unlike traditional blockchain where transactions are created by a single private and public key, ring signatures use a group of cryptographic keys for each transaction. This means that any one of the keys in the group sent or received funds; however there is no way of knowing which one it was. While it is easy to link anonymity with unsavory or illicit activity, there are in fact many legitimate reasons for making anonymous purchases from time to time. Gifts or charitable donations are one example. A pregnancy test (or similar item) you donโt want family members to know about is another. The most obvious, especially for anyone making regular larger transaction, is just privacy. Having control of your own privacy is priceless! Some of the coins running on CryptoNote even allow you to toggle your transparency. CryptoNote also set out to reign in the competition involved in mining by introducing the CryptoNight algorithm. Mining of CryptoNote coins is based on Proof-of-work, however, in comparison to bitcoinโs SHA-256 algorithm, CryptoNight is resistant to powerful dedicated miners, also called ASIC devices used in larger mining rigs and โcrypto farmsโ. Another key feature is that CryptoNight is memory bound which is how it is able to resist ASIC mining, making the field more even for everyone.

The flagship coin on CryptoNote is Bytecoin. Bytecoin BCN features instant global transactions that are as fast as your internet connection, resistance to high powered GPU mining, and complete anonymity via ring signatures. Bytecoin has parameters set in a way that will make it value slowly, but I believe this coin is currently very undervalued. Monero XMR is the most widely known fork of Bytecoin, and has been gaining a lot of attention recently. Monero has similar emphasis on privacy, hiding even the amounts of transactions made, as well as mining that is more open to anyone. With Monero XMR came the implementation of โbrowser miningโ. Through this process you can run the CryptoNight algorithm through your browser, which uses your CPU power to mine Monero XMR. However, many hackers use this code maliciously to use your CPU power without your permission. Luckily there are easier ways to mine these, and other coins with the computer you already have!

Usually getting involved in mining of any kind takes at least minimal technical know how. Between downloading the appropriate application and creating batch files to route to your pool and even which pool to use it can quickly become confusing to even those who know what they are doing. MinerGate makes this whole process more accessible to anyone by offering software that does all of the background work for you. All you have to do is download the MinerGate application and open it. Run the benchmark test on your computer to find out exactly what your mining capabilities are and the smart mining feature will automatically begin mining the profitable currency for your device. In particular, when mining CryptoNote coins such as Monero XMR, MinerGate allows for simultaneous mining of Fantomcoin without any addition hash requirements. MinerGate is the only mining pool that allows for this feature.

While blockchain moves on to bigger and more widespread uses, privacy will be more of concern than it already is. The way in which we interact with the world currently shows a trend in relinquishing a great deal of privacy for the greater good. More than ever, having the control over your own financial privacy is of paramount importance. CryptoNote is the next logical move in cryptocurrency, filling in where blockchain may be better suited for other applications. Bytecoin BCN seems severely undervalued at the moment and may be a great investment to make โ or mine โ with the potential to make significant gains as CryptoNote continues to build momentum. Bytecoin forks like Monero XMR and Aeon have some very innovative features and have already gained significant value. I encourage you to look further into these and other coins on the CryptoNote platform and to try your hand at mining some of them with MinerGate. | title | What is Mining? |
| body |

If you are new to cryptocurrency or are interested in learning more about the technology behind the increasingly popular field, then this article is for you. Some of the terminology and concepts in the cryptocurrency world are very foreign to most people, and as a wise person once said, โyou donโt really understand something if you canโt explain it to your grandmother.โ So let us try to make sense of mining crypto currencies in the simplest terms, along with how a service like MinerGate can facilitate your goals from a simple hobby to larger investment-oriented results.

First, ask yourself why the world needs banks. Civilization needs a place where money can be stored safely, where transactions can be recorded by an honest and independent 3rd party, and a place where money can be invested or borrowed in loans or other credit. That has worked out pretty well for bankers, hasnโt it? Today, banks own professional sports arenas all over the world and control huge sectors of global finance from construction to the arts. There is a lot of profit in banking, and very little of that goes to you and me, the little guys. But imagine if we no longer needed banks. Imagine if all those grand profits no longer went to the 1% of top earners in the world, but instead was shared more evenly across the 99%. Thatโs the idea behind cryptocurrency: basically, we donโt need powerful banks holding all the money anymore now that blockchain technology is here.

Let us next work with some foreign sounding terms. Imagine that the โBlockchainโ is basically an excel spreadsheet file on your computer with some data in it. Except that it isnโt just on your computer, it is on a million computers across the globe, and it isnโt just โsomeโ data, itโs all the financial transactions on record for that particular currencyโand encrypted so no trusted 3rd party is needed. If a hacker wanted to hack your computer and change the data in your file to reflect all of the money in your checking account going into their account, that would be pretty easy. But when that file is on a million computers, the hacker would have to hack a million computers all at once to do the same thingโand that it nearly impossible. It is certainly more impossible that it would be to hack a bankโs computer system!

So you have this account data that is shared across all these computers, but so what? Well, that is where โminingโ comes into play. Mining is just a funny word used to describe participation in the financial record-keeping with a high-powered computer. When I decide to mine a particular currency, what I am actually doing is connecting my super-fast (often super-expensive) computer to the cryptocurrency network and allowing that network to use my computing power to run the transactions. There is a lot of technical jargon that happens here, and we will keep it simple. Computational challenges arise from the heavy burden of encrypting all the financial record-keeping. All you need to know is that โminingโ is nothing more than applying your personal computing power to solving those computational challenges. Mining rewards are a financial incentive to users who provide the fastest, most powerful computers. The faster and more accurate the computer you provide, the greater your reward in crypto currency coins. MinerGate is a great way to do this, where users can join a mining โpoolโ that combines computational resources among a group of users who share the rewards together. Many currencies are reasonably profitable today when mined in a good pool like Minergate with even a modest computer CPU and GPU (examples include the Intel i5 or the AMD RX series). Why not download MinerGate and put that computer to work for you no matter how modest the return? You never know how much those coins will be worth in ten years, do you?

Remember when we said those super-fast computers are often super-expensive? Well, that is where cloud-mining services like MinerGateโs program come into play. The mining analogy really does fit well in this case. Imagine you are a prospector in California back in the 1800s during the Gold Rush days. You go out into the mountains with your mule and pick axe and find a spot. You start digging and get lucky. Thereโs a vein of gold right there. So you go back into the nearest town with your mule loaded down with ore, ready to cash in, buy more supplies, and head back out to dig up some more. Whatโs going to happen next? You think youโll be going back out alone, or will about 200 other prospectors follow you out? How will you protect your claim when the minute you ride back into town those other prospectors are going to โclaim jumpโ all over your ore so when you get back, it is all gone? The answer back then was mining contracts where claims were protected by businesses who had experienced miners, security, lawyers, smelters, and payroll so they could share into claims and provide valuable services while sharing profits.

That is much like what has happened in cryptocurrency with computing power. When people discovered that they could make money by participating in the mining system, a virtual arms race of computational power ensued to the point that now the machines go far beyond a desktop computer. MinerGate takes the pressure off users by procuring the expensive equipment and then leasing it under contract. This allows for excellent returns on investment over time without huge up-front costs that truly competitive mining hardware would require for coins like Bitcoin. MinerGate is also one of the most trusted names in cloud mining, as they make no wild claims of get-rich-quick or insane returns on investments. Instead, MinerGateโs cloud mining is an excellent way to profit from the rising market trend over time of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Monero โ plus Ethereum soon!

No matter what your goals, experience level, or familiarity with cryptocurrency, MinerGate is a solution you can be comfortable with from start to finish.
\n

\n
\n

\n
Let us next work with some foreign sounding terms. | title | Ethereum (ETH) Cryptocurrency Mining Tips โ How to Earn More |
| body |

With the recent boom in the cryptocurrency market, many users in the community have begun to mine coins as a great way to supplement their income. Mining is the process of using GPUs (graphics cards) to essentially โmintโ new coins through a process called PoW (proof of work).

One of the most profitable coins to mine is Ethereum (ETH). Ethereum is a cryptocurrency platform that allows users to create โsmart contractsโ that replace traditional business logic and rules on the blockchain. The structure of these smart contracts allows programmers to add computer code to a wallet address, which increases the functionality of the platform considerably compared to traditional cryptocurrencies.

Because Ethereum (ETH) is currently the most popular โsmart contractโ platform, users have a unique opportunity to profit from the exponential growth in this space by โminingโ this cryptocurrency coin.

Recently, MinerGate made significant update of the Ethereum ETH mining pool with enhanced stability, adaptive job difficulty and higher profitability for miners. We find it important to share with you a set of Ethereum mining tips from one of our users below.

Above is a photo of a homemade Ethereum mining rig. Donโt let the complexity scare you! This is essentially just a desktop computer without the case (and extra GPUs). Below Iโve lined out 10 essential tips for you to be successful at building your own mining rig and beginning to earn some extra income.

Make sure you have all components on hand before you begin the build. These are the things you will need:

Power Supply (PSU) โ I recommend using a 1500W with a rating of at least Gold. Also, make sure the unit you purchase is fully modular. You can pick one up here on Amazon.

Motherboard โ For this component, you need to make sure that you select a motherboard that has multiple PCIe slots for your graphics cards. The board I use is here on Amazon.

Memory โ All computers need RAM memory to function. I recommend using at least 16GB of RAM on your mining rig. You can pick that up here.

Hard Drive โ I recommend using a SSD for storage of your operating system. Here is the one I use.

PCI risers โ Each GPU must connect to the motherboard using these components. You will need to purchase 1 riser for each GPU that your rig has. You can find those here.

CPU and fan โ A compatible CPU for this motherboard can be found here. You will need to install a CPU fan to keep it cool, and you can find that here.

Graphics cards (GPUs) โ This motherboard is equipped to run up to 5 cards. Keep in mind that you can add cards to the rig as you scale up, so you can start with 2 or 3 cards and work your way up to 5. I recommend NVIDIA 1070s, and you can find those here. You can also use 1060s or 1080s. Just make sure that they have at least 8GB of memory.

Frame โ You can build your own wooden frame like the one in the picture, or you can search for โmining rig frameโ online and find many options.

Windows 10 โ This is the best operating system for running the MinerGate software which is what I recommend for mining Ethereum

After putting your rig components together, I recommend testing it with just one GPU to ensure that it works. After finding that the card works, add another card and retest. Continue this process until you have successfully installed all cards and they are working properly. There are many online tutorials for assembling your components. A quick search for โbuild and Ethereum minerโ will give you the info you need.

Use mining software that is easy to set up and is highly profitable. The software that I recommend, is MinerGate. I prefer this software, because it has a feature called โsmart miningโ that will mine the most profitable coin for your rig. Just use the link above to download the software, run the benchmarks, and begin mining! Itโs that easy!

Provide proper ventilation for your Ethereum mining rig. Computers work best in cool conditions, so it is essential that you place the rig in a room with proper ventilation. In addition, I recommend using fans to blow air directly onto the mining rig, so that you have proper air flow. Also, do not place the rig is a small enclosed room. The bigger the room, the better your rig will perform.

Monitor your mining rig for at least 24 hours to ensure that it is stable. There may be some troubleshooting you need to do in order to ensure that your rig will be stable, so be patient with this process.

Always keep an eye on the status of your rig. In the mining game, time is money, so your mining rig needs to be running 24 hours a day in order to maximize your profit. Check your MinerGate software periodically throughout the day to ensure that everything is working correctly.

Allow your MinerGate software to also mine using your CPU. This is a great feature of the software, and a great way to earn a little extra from your rig.

Use part of your mining proceeds to purchase different coins. I prefer to use half of my mining profits to purchase different coins. I feel it is extremely important to diversify your portfolio, and a great way to learn about other exciting projects. Research other coins and buy the ones that interest you the most.

Use your Ethereum mining rigs to scale your operation up and you earn more income. I started this process with 2 GPUs, and I know have over 19 GPUs running 24 hours a day. This is essentially a full time income for me.

START NOW : Cryptocurrency is one of the most exciting innovations that has come around in a long time, and the sooner you get involved, the sooner you can profit from the massive growth in the coming years.

Join the community of MinerGate and connect your workers for profitable mining!

|

"body": "
\n

\n

\n
With the recent boom in the cryptocurrency market, many users in the community have begun to mine coins as a great way to supplement their income. Mining is the process of using GPUs (graphics cards) to essentially โmintโ new coins through a process called PoW (proof of work).
\n

\n
One of the most profitable coins to mine is Ethereum (ETH). Ethereum is a cryptocurrency platform that allows users to create โsmart contractsโ that replace traditional business logic and rules on the blockchain. The structure of these smart contracts allows programmers to add computer code to a wallet address, which increases the functionality of the platform considerably compared to traditional cryptocurrencies.
\n

\n
Because Ethereum (ETH) is currently the most popular โsmart contractโ platform, users have a unique opportunity to profit from the exponential growth in this space by โminingโ this cryptocurrency coin.
\n

\n
Recently, MinerGate made significant update of the Ethereum ETH mining pool with enhanced stability, adaptive job difficulty and higher profitability for miners. We find it important to share with you a set of Ethereum mining tips from one of our users below.
\n

\n
Above is a photo of a homemade Ethereum mining rig. Donโt let the complexity scare you! This is essentially just a desktop computer without the case (and extra GPUs). Below Iโve lined out 10 essential tips for you to be successful at building your own mining rig and beginning to earn some extra income.
\n

\n
Make sure you have all components on hand before you begin the build. These are the things you will need:
\n
Power Supply (PSU) โ I recommend using a 1500W with a rating of at least Gold. Also, make sure the unit you purchase is fully modular. You can pick one up here on Amazon.
\n
Motherboard โ For this component, you need to make sure that you select a motherboard that has multiple PCIe slots for your graphics cards. The board I use is here on Amazon.
\n
Memory โ All computers need RAM memory to function. I recommend using at least 16GB of RAM on your mining rig. You can pick that up here.
\n
Hard Drive โ I recommend using a SSD for storage of your operating system. Here is the one I use.
\n
PCI risers โ Each GPU must connect to the motherboard using these components. You will need to purchase 1 riser for each GPU that your rig has. You can find those here.
\n
CPU and fan โ A compatible CPU for this motherboard can be found here. You will need to install a CPU fan to keep it cool, and you can find that here.
\n
Graphics cards (GPUs) โ This motherboard is equipped to run up to 5 cards. Keep in mind that you can add cards to the rig as you scale up, so you can start with 2 or 3 cards and work your way up to 5. I recommend NVIDIA 1070s, and you can find those here. You can also use 1060s or 1080s. Just make sure that they have at least 8GB of memory.
\n
Frame โ You can build your own wooden frame like the one in the picture, or you can search for โmining rig frameโ online and find many options.
\n
Windows 10 โ This is the best operating system for running the MinerGate software which is what I recommend for mining Ethereum
\n
After putting your rig components together, I recommend testing it with just one GPU to ensure that it works. After finding that the card works, add another card and retest. Continue this process until you have successfully installed all cards and they are working properly. There are many online tutorials for assembling your components. A quick search for โbuild and Ethereum minerโ will give you the info you need.
\n
Use mining software that is easy to set up and is highly profitable. The software that I recommend, is MinerGate. I prefer this software, because it has a feature called โsmart miningโ that will mine the most profitable coin for your rig. Just use the link above to download the software, run the benchmarks, and begin mining! Itโs that easy!
\n
Provide proper ventilation for your Ethereum mining rig. Computers work best in cool conditions, so it is essential that you place the rig in a room with proper ventilation. In addition, I recommend using fans to blow air directly onto the mining rig, so that you have proper air flow. Also, do not place the rig is a small enclosed room. The bigger the room, the better your rig will perform.
\n
Monitor your mining rig for at least 24 hours to ensure that it is stable. There may be some troubleshooting you need to do in order to ensure that your rig will be stable, so be patient with this process.
\n
Always keep an eye on the status of your rig. In the mining game, time is money, so your mining rig needs to be running 24 hours a day in order to maximize your profit. Check your MinerGate software periodically throughout the day to ensure that everything is working correctly.
\n
Allow your MinerGate software to also mine using your CPU. This is a great feature of the software, and a great way to earn a little extra from your rig.
\n
Use part of your mining proceeds to purchase different coins. I prefer to use half of my mining profits to purchase different coins. I feel it is extremely important to diversify your portfolio, and a great way to learn about other exciting projects. Research other coins and buy the ones that interest you the most.
\n
Use your Ethereum mining rigs to scale your operation up and you earn more income. I started this process with 2 GPUs, and I know have over 19 GPUs running 24 hours a day. This is essentially a full time income for me.
\n
START NOW : Cryptocurrency is one of the most exciting innovations that has come around in a long time, and the sooner you get involved, the sooner you can profit from the massive growth in the coming years.
\n

\n
Join the community of MinerGate and connect your workers for profitable mining!
\n

\n

\n
",

| title | AEON from science fiction to untraceable currency |
| body |

Everything in cryptocurrencies is experimentation and learning, if you discover a coin you have to study and learn from it to know it. AEON gathers everything to become a โlifestyleโ as its official website says.

AEON is a private, secure, untraceable currency. You control your funds, and nobody can trace your transfers. It has the following characteristics according to its official site:

PoW algorithm: CryptoNight-Lite

Max supply: ~ 18.4 million

Block reward: smoothly varying

Block time: 240 seconds

Difficulty: retargets at every block

Minar AEON is simple and profitable, just download the MinerGate miner on your laptop and thatโs it, since itโs a CryptoNote you can mine it on a computer easily.

The good news is that it produces more Hashrate than the other currencies. The AEON community states that it is the only one currency that duplicates the hashrate of computer capacity, that doubles your chances of winning by mining.

AEON is born from a fork of Monero XMR which gives it a great development support in its programs and wallets.

How is AEON different from Monero XMR?

Compared to our CryptoNote big brother Monero XMR, here are AEONโs main advantages:

Mobile-friendly

1 MB scratchpad allows AEON to run on mobile devices alongside regular laptops and desktops.

Different proof-of-work

AEONโs lightweight PoW (CryptoNote-Lite) allows for faster verification of the blockchain.

Blockchain pruning for scalability

Pruning allows the blockchain to stay small and not outgrow devices with limited storage. This feature also improves anonymity by reducing age-based attacks.

Fast syncing

Compared to Bitcoin variants, CryptoNote coins typically have higher verification, leading to more orphaned blocks. AEON helps this issue by using a 4-minute blocktime, reducing sync by a factor of four. Coupled with our lighter PoW, sync times on lower end devices can be improved by 10x or more.

Optional lightweight transfers

As a CryptoNote coin, payments are still anonymous by default. But unlike Monero XMR, AEON also allows for traceable transfers. These are a faster lower-fee option for non-sensitive payments, like transferring to / from exchanges.

One of the great advantages of AEON is its ease of transmission and security, it has one of the lowest commissions and is one of the safest in the universe of cryptocurrencies.

Something very important in the development of a currency is its experience and continuous updating. AEON programmers continually update the wallet protocol which makes their security on the platform grow and be more solid.

It is said that one of the main developers of AEON is โSmoothโ who leads the project since April 2015 and who has made statements

โAEON is certainly targeting running to node on a smartphone, but I do not think it is possible to completely rule out Monero XMR (someday) doing that too.

As answered above by others the idea is experimental and perhaps even stupid things. AEON gathers everything to become a โlifestyleโ as its official website says.
\n

\n
AEON is a private, secure, untraceable currency. You control your funds, and nobody can trace your transfers. It has the following characteristics according to its official site:
\n

\n
PoW algorithm: CryptoNight-Lite
\n

\n
Max supply: ~ 18.4 million
\n

\n
Block reward: smoothly varying
\n

\n
Block time: 240 seconds
\n

\n
Difficulty: retargets at every block
\n

\n

\n

\n
Minar AEON is simple and profitable, just download the MinerGate miner on your laptop and thatโs it, since itโs a CryptoNote you can mine it on a computer easily.
\n

\n
The good news is that it produces more Hashrate than the other currencies. The AEON community states that it is the only one currency that duplicates the hashrate of computer capacity, that doubles your chances of winning by mining.
\n

\n
AEON is born from a fork of Monero XMR which gives it a great development support in its programs and wallets.
\n

\n
How is AEON different from Monero XMR?
\n
Compared to our CryptoNote big brother Monero XMR, here are AEONโs main advantages:
\n

\n
Mobile-friendly
\n
1 MB scratchpad allows AEON to run on mobile devices alongside regular laptops and desktops.
\n

\n
Different proof-of-work
\n
AEONโs lightweight PoW (CryptoNote-Lite) allows for faster verification of the blockchain.
\n

\n
Blockchain pruning for scalability
\n
Pruning allows the blockchain to stay small and not outgrow devices with limited storage. This feature also improves anonymity by reducing age-based attacks.
\n

\n
Fast syncing
\n
Compared to Bitcoin variants, CryptoNote coins typically have higher verification, leading to more orphaned blocks. AEON helps this issue by using a 4-minute blocktime, reducing sync by a factor of four. Coupled with our lighter PoW, sync times on lower end devices can be improved by 10x or more.
\n

\n
Optional lightweight transfers
\n
As a CryptoNote coin, payments are still anonymous by default. But unlike Monero XMR, AEON also allows for traceable transfers. These are a faster lower-fee option for non-sensitive payments, like transferring to / from exchanges.
\n

\n
One of the great advantages of AEON is its ease of transmission and security, it has one of the lowest commissions and is one of the safest in the universe of cryptocurrencies.
\n

\n
Something very important in the development of a currency is its experience and continuous updating. AEON programmers continually update the wallet protocol which makes their security on the platform grow and be more solid.
\n

\n
It is said that one of the main developers of AEON is โSmoothโ who leads the project since April 2015 and who has made statements
\n

\n
โAEON is certainly targeting running to node on a smartphone, but I do not think it is possible to completely rule out Monero XMR (someday) doing that too.
\n

\n
As answered above by others the idea is experimental and perhaps even stupid things. Some of them may be adopted by Monero XMR in time, others may not.
\n

\n
Also, as I said earlier in Moneroโs history when the clones were first appearing, what makes a stronger coin is defeating clones. (I reject the idea of โโexpecting to stop cloning by trash talking clones or cloning, as Adam for example tries to do.)
