| body |  Nowadays we all are usually following a very unhealthy lifestyle. This article is about the important steps that we can take to keep ourselves healthy and fit throughout a year.  Hands should always be washed: Keeping our hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to keep ourselves healthy and from this step we can avoid getting sick and spreading germs. Hands should always be washed before eating anything, after using toilet, after coughing or sneezing, after touching a garbage etc. Always try to wash hands with water and remember that hand sanitizers are not as effective when hands are visibly dirty and they might not remove germs. Moreover, our house should always be clean because that is the place where we spend most of our time.  EAT HEALTHY: It is so important to eat healthy. In order to have a good health we must limit the amount of food we eat and to avoid unhealthy junk food such as Fast food items, everything that is sweet, fatty, fried or salty should be avoided or at least should be consumed in less quantity. Follow a balanced diet chart, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and other organic foods needs to be added into our daily routine. And above all drink plenty of water.  OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: Nowadays children prefer to stay indoors, playing games on their computers. This is not at all a healthy way of living. It is really very important to go out every day and to play outside with friends and family. Through this activity they will get fresh air and also will be getting enough Vitamin D from the Sun.  QUIT SMOKING: In one of my blog posts, I have clearly mentioned as how to stop smoking and you will lead a healthy and happy life after getting rid of this unhealthy habit. And believe you me, after getting rid of this unhealthy habit you would begin to think that this was probably the best thing you have ever done in life.  ORGANIC EGGS: Eat organic eggs. They are very good for health and consume them without any hesitation.  AVOID TAKING MEDICINES: One thing that I really want to mention in this post, please avoid taking a lot of medicines. Yes! I am talking about self medication that we all usually do for our sore throat or headache. Even I do this sometimes when having headache or flu like symptoms. These medicines have a lot of side effects and these excessive consumption repercussions on the state of health. Try to treat your ailments naturally through herbal tea, essential oils, plants etc. Consume as little medicines as possible.  EXERCISE REGULARLY: My advice for all people “EXERCISE REGULARLY”. From this you will be able to fight against different diseases and it is good for your physical and mental wellbeing as well. Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and you have more energy to tackle daily chores. Exercise may also make it easier for you to quit smoking by reducing your cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It may also limit the weight you might gain when you stop smoking. Exercise can help you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer as well. And walk is also very good for maintaining good physical health. Start developing this habit as soon as possible.  RELIEVING STRESS THROUGH HEALTHY DIET: Eating a healthy diet can lead to a better physique. You will feel better about your physical appearance which can boost your confidence and self esteem. This would help in reducing stress and improved cognitive function as well. DO NOT ISOLATE YOURSELF:  Always remember that it is not just diet that helps us in remaining healthy and fit in life. Our life depends upon our support group as well. It is very important to have people around us for better mental health. Always spend time with your friends and family on regular basis. Don’t isolate yourself. Once you adopt a healthy lifestyle, you would lead a healthy and happy life. But to achieve this goal one needs to have a strong will power. | body | SPLIT YELLOW CHICKPEAS RECIPE (DAAL CHANNA Recipe) The recipe I am going to share with you on this platform is one of my favorites because in Pakistan we usually cook lentils at home along with other combos. Usually we serve lentils with boiled rice. I am just a housewife and a mother of two adorable kids. I cook for my family and it gives me pleasure. I decided to share my simple recipe yet delicious and want you all to try it as well. Soak it for two to three hours for better results. **Ingredients** 2 cups Split yellow chickpeas (washed and drained) 2 Onions chopped Tomatoes two to three medium sized Half tsp Turmeric powder Salt As per taste (I added 2 tsp) Red chili powder one tsp 1 tsp ginger paste 1 tsp garlic paste 1 tsp white cumin seeds (one of my favorite ingredients) ¼ tsp hot spices/Garam masala For Garnishing: Fresh coriander leaves  **Method:** Soak chana daal (Yellow lentils) for almost two to three hours before cooking. I usually prefer pressure cooker for cooking lentils like split yellow chickpeas, but if you don’t want to use it than you can boil it and then add it into the gravy that we will prepare afterwards. Fry onion in three to four tbsp of oil or you can use butter for frying onions. Fry onions till golden brown and then add ginger garlic paste, all spices except hot spices as I always add hot spices in the end. After mixing well all the ingredients and when you see that gravy is well prepared and mixed well, add lentils into it and add two cups of water and pressure cook the lentils on medium flame. Cook for ten minutes after the first whistle of pressure cooker. It won’t take much time to cook as they were well soaked before. Ten minutes is enough time for Yellow chickpeas to be well cooked. Finally, if you see that it is a bit dry and thick so you can add a little water, and if it is thin then simmers for few minutes to get a desired result and then add hot spices/ garam masala into it. For garnishing I always use fresh coriander leaves. As you can see in the picture, I served it with mix pickle and cucumber salad. I made mint drink as well so it would help in better digestion. **All content is mine as well as picture that have been taken from my own camera.** Hope you guys would like it and would give a positive feedback. | body | *ONCE YOU CHOOSE HOPE, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE*  Having a Masters degree in Behavioral Sciences and dealing with many mentally disturbed patients, finally I have decided to address the problem i.e. DEPRESSION. Depression is a widespread disease, one in ten men and one in five women will be affected in lifetime. There are many possible causes of depression including faulty mood regulation, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events and other medical problems. This disease affects women twice as much as these men. And the risk increases further if they are divorced or unemployed. “Even sometimes I get depressed due to some personal reasons, sometimes not able to cope with certain situations in life. But that is perfectly fine if you feel low sometimes as we are humans and we do come across certain emotions in life. But if this feeling persists and you simply cannot get out of this phase, than this need to be addressed because Depression is a serious problem.”  People suffering from mental health problems push themselves too hard trying to pretend as if they are OK and never tells anybody about their feelings. Because the problem with mental health stigmatization is that often you will be judged as failure in life. But this is wrong…. Sometimes you have no reason to feel this way and you cannot help it. People often forget that mental illness can be biological and are not just based on stressful life events. A person suffers it with full force without having keys to fight it and usually does not have any idea how to manage this disease.  Start with the people you think they can support you. Talk to your partner and make decisions about who should know about it before you seek some professional help. If your loved one is depressed make sure your health and morale are strong enough before you begin to help. You will not relieve the concerned person if you collapse under pressure and do not finally feel the courage to help that person. Even with proper treatment, the cure for depression is not overnight, it will take several months. Always remember that family and friends are always the first line of defense against Depression.  Show the loved one that you believe in her ability to get better, whatever the difficulties. Your confidence will fill her with energy. |
