Along with the development of culture, languages have been evolving ever since, and in today's day and age we have well over 6,500 spoken languages in the world. Despite the overwhelming amount of languages in existence we tend to only keep to one (if you're a native English speaker), namely - English. There are even jokes about Americans who only speak English and demand other to speak their language even when abroad, people in the polyglot community typically make fun of them joking that they only speak 'American'. \n\nA quick Bing search can rapidly change our perspective of the English language. Just quickly enter the word \"language\" in the search bar and see what comes up. Nearly a billion native people speak Chinese Mandarin, at it's quickly becoming the language of commerce and business. In second place comes Spanish, with just over 390 million native speakers, and in third comes English, with just 365 million native speakers. Notice that I said native speakers, meaning that if we were to bump up the statistics to include L2 speakers, or second learners, we would have a vastly different statistic.\n\n![List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbgvnvmEKWnutxta47zbjGMU8vU5Tg1a6XeahN9Sn1ahU/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers.png)\n\nHere we see native language speakers divided into percentages of the world population. Just look how big Mandarin is! Irregardless of the number of speakers in a given language, it's beautiful to see just how colorful the world is. A language brings so much more than just different sounds to the world, but a unique way of seeing it. Anyone who has taken the time to learn a new language can attest to that. For example the word Torschlusspanik in German is a noun which is defined as, \"The fear that time is running out to achieve your life goals.\" What a fantastic word to describe what I'm currently feeling.\n\n## Why Should I Take the Time to Learn a Language?\n\nThere are many reasons. One of the most intuitive reasons, is that you're simply interested languages. Anyone who has begun to learn a language purely out of love and interest has absolutely flirted with other languages; polyglots are a promiscuous bunch. To go over all the reasons might take some time, so I'll just list a few off the top of my head and let you make out whether it's a good enough reason to, I'll include some of the reasons I've decided to learn a language as well.\n\n1. Interest / Curiosity\n2. Become more cultured\n3. Meet new interesting people you would have never spoken to\n4. Extremely useful in traveling\n5. Move and live in another country\n5. Can help foreigners when they're lost\n6. Can read books in the original and obtain greater meaning\n7. A new world of songs and music opens up\n8. Can learn new jokes that cannot be translated, a whole comedy opens up\n9. Discover types of food you've never even dreamed of and love!\n10. Beneficial for the Brain / Neurogenesis\n11. As you learn other languages, your native language improves!\n12. Become a better communicator\n13. Delays onset of Dementia\n14. Can be passed on to your children if you teach them\n15. Can speak about someone to a friend without the person you're talking about realizing you're talking about them.\n16. Can use it as a personal secret language between you and a significant other\n17. Can speak with your in laws if you marry cross-culturally\n18. Useful when dating / More attractive\n19. Your dating pool opens up dramatically, why limit yourself to your country? There are 7 billion other people who do not speak your language!\n20. Opens up employment opportunities as interpreters and translators, or as a bonus to important professions, health practitioners, law, business and non-profit organizations.\n21. Discover a new version of yourself with a different personality.\n\nThere are so many reasons! Any it's not that difficult to learn a language. Many people have the misheld belief that it's impossible for them to learn a language or that they don't have the time. If you commute on a car, train, or by bike, you have time. There are plenty of apps or audio lessons you can take and start your adventure towards expanding your horizons. I'll will be making further topics on languages as it's one of my favorite things to talk about.\n\nThings to consider when picking a language are which in your native language, how much time you would like to devote, which languages do you find more interesting and what resources are available to you! He was a prominent business man in the late 1800's until his death in 1911. He was wealthy, and upon his death the local town shops closed down as a sign of respect around his funeral. He's known for writing two books, one in particular titled \"The Science of Getting Rich\". His ideas were the formation of a new kind of thought called, \"New Thought\".\n\nFor those not familiar, it's an old somewhat quasi-religion that subscribed to certain key ideas. These ideas are, the belief that God is an ultimate intelligence permeating throughout the whole universe, and that our thoughts can manifest themselves into our daily lives. Sound familiar? It is, because the writer of, \"The Secret\" was inspired by Wallace D. Wattles. \n\nBut, \"'The Secret' is total quackery,\" you may say. I agree, it is quackery, there is no doubt about that. Yet as a pragmatist I take the good and useful from the bad. When I extrapolate all the pseudoscience from this book I came with a few notes I translated into modern writing. Here I am to share them with you.\n\n# 1. Thought is the only power which can produce tangible riches from the Formless Substance.\n\nWhat I took out from this was, everything in the world, including the keyboard and mouse or tablet you're reading this from was an idea that originated from someone's brain. The glass, the table, the sofa or chair, the toaster, the toothbrush, the car. All these are objects which originated from a thought, and idea. We are surrounded by live ideas, and only ideas and thoughts can make use rich.\n\n# 2. Give every man more in use value than you take from him in cash value; then you are adding to the life of the world by every business transaction.\n\nThis is a good principle to live by, if you give more than what you take in cash value, you giving a good product or service. It's like Steve Jobs said, \"“If you keep your eye on the profit, you’re going to skimp on the product. But if you focus on making really great products, then the profits will follow.”\n\n# 3. You must form a clear and definite mental picture of what you want; you cannot transmit an idea unless you have it yourself.\n\nYou have to have clear, and definite goals. Envision this as strongly as you can so much that it become real in your mind. The stronger and clarity of your vision the more likely you'll behave and act in ways according to your vision. You'll align yourself to make this come true. You cannot run in a direction without knowing where your destination is. But read closely, it said a clear and definite mental picture. The rest of the paragraph talks about literally envisioning down to the kind of table and stove and car you'll own. I want you to envision the exact home, car, lifestyle, and person you're going to be. This is what it means to have clear and definite goals.\n\n# 4. You must do ALL that you can do where you are. You can advance only by being larger than your present place; and no man is larger this his present place who leaves undone any of the work pertaining to that place.\n\nNo matter what situation you find yourself in life, it's vital to do everything you can in this present moment. It's not about dreaming and hoping your goals and prospects come to fruition. No, this is about taking action, in the present moment. This means deciding on what _not_ to focus on as well as on_what_ to focus on. What are your current distractions? What's keeping you from your goal?\n\nWe as humans, like computers, accumulate junk and need to clean ourselves from clutter. If we want to run optimally, we should clean out our old habits, rid ourselves of our distractions and do what we intuitively know we should be doing. \n\nAs an exercise envision your future, how will you get there?
