title10 Surprising Things That Are Toxic For Your Pet
bodyAnyone who owns a pet knows that animals have no qualms about trying to eat random objects they find lying around the house. Cats chew on various plants, rats and mice nibble practically anything, and dogs work part-time as vacuum cleaners when food is dropped on the kitchen floor. However, many things that people wouldn’t ordinarily give a second thought to can actually be incredibly toxic to common household pets. Animals don’t have the same metabolisms as humans; a compound that human bodies can break down effortlessly may prove to be lethal in a smaller animal at the same dose. Here, we will explore several foods and plants that you may not realize are present in your pet’s reach—and the potential medical dangers they can bring if consumed. CHOCOLATE This may not be shocking to many animal lovers, but pets do not appreciate the joys of chocolate quite as much as humans, probably because it kills them. Chocolate contains two closely related compounds: theobromine (the primary stimulant) and caffeine, both of which are responsible for chocolate’s energizing effects. These compounds help to stimulate brain and cardiac/skeletal muscle activity, mainly by inhibiting certain cell receptors and enzymes and increasing free calcium concentrations (which helps to power muscles).[10]At high doses, these effects can cause muscular overstimulation, potentially leading to abnormal heart rhythms, muscle tremors, diarrhea, restlessness, and heart failure. This seems very frightening, and you may be wondering why humans don’t drop dead after eating a piece of chocolate cake. As a matter of fact, humans are able to break down theobromine much more quickly and efficiently than what a dog’s metabolism is capable of. Because chocolate is a very common food item for desserts and treats, great care should be taken to keep it out of the reach of dogs, cats, and other animals. Other caffeine-containing products such as coffee should be kept away from pets for similar reasons. They can cause harmful overstimulation as well. ONIONS What makes people cry and pets die? If you answered onions, you’re surprisingly correct. Onions (as well as closely related vegetables such as garlic, leeks, and chives) are very poisonous to cats and dogs due to compounds known as N-propyl disulfide and sodium n-propylthiosulfate. When ingested, these chemicals reduce the formation of an important antioxidant called glutathione, which ultimately causes toxic hydrogen peroxide levels to rise up. Hydrogen peroxide can alter the structure of hemoglobin, an essential protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen so that it can be dispersed to different parts of the body. This alteration causes hemoglobin proteins to unravel and clump together, forming clumps called Heinz bodies.[2]Unfortunately, the formation of Heinz bodies can cause red blood cells to burst, which increases the risk of anemia and subsequent organ failure. Humans are very resistant to these side effects, but pets (especially cats) are highly susceptible to anemia after repeated ingestion. Symptoms to look out for include weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, pale gums, discolored urine, and overactive saliva production. MACADAMIA NUTS Macadamia nuts are highly valued by snack lovers for their high contents of minerals, antioxidants, and more. Dogs can also get a few bonus side effects if they consume these delicious snacks: vomiting, weakness or mild paralysis, hyperthermia, and muscle tremors. The exact cause of macadamia nut toxicity in canines is unknown; it is theorized that it could be a natural product in the nuts themselves, something introduced during manufacturing, or toxic fungal side products.[3] With proper medical attention, macadamia nut toxicity is generally treatable, and symptoms resolve within 12 to 48 hours, but it’s probably a wise idea to not leave piles of macadamia nuts lying around your house, as tempting as that sounds to snack lovers. GRAPES AND RAISINS Grapes don’t exactly emit an aura of danger (unless you’ve recently read John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath), but these small snacks have very large consequences when ingested by a dog. The exact mechanism of toxicity is still a mystery, but it is known that consumption can cause dogs to develop acute kidney failure. Symptoms commonly include vomiting and diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite, lack of urine production, and others.[4]Unlike macadamia nuts, this type of poisoning is very severe and often fatal. Immediate medical attention is required. If kidney failure occurs, it is extremely unlikely that the dog will survive. The toxic reaction still occurs in seedless and skinned grapes, implying that the deadly reagent is found in the fruit’s flesh. This means that raisins are equally harmful for dogs as well. Raisins are especially easy to drop on the floor unnoticed, so be extra mindful when shoveling large handfuls into your mouth during your next snack run. SWEETENERS If your dog is feeling bummed about not being able to eat chocolate anymore, here’s some exciting news: It’s no longer allowed to eat candy as well! Xylitol is a sugar alcohol commonly added to sweets such as chewing gum and candy as a low-calorie sugar substitute (making it a popular choice for diabetics). When ingested by dogs, however, xylitol triggers a large release of insulin, a compound that induces cells to take up sugar from the blood. This sudden surge of insulin flowing into cells can result in a sudden decrease in the dog’s blood glucose, resulting in a condition known as hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms of hypoglycemia include seizures, loss of coordination, and vomiting.[5] As if this wasn’t enough, Xylitol has also been implicated in canine liver failure as well. It’s best to stick to dog treats and avoid feeding your pooch any sort of candy or chewing gum. The possible choking hazard is bad enough; a bad liver and low blood sugar would not be a good way to reward your dog for doing tricks. LILIES Pet owners know that cats love to chew on plants for no reason in particular. However, this seemingly benign habit could quickly turn into a medical emergency if lilies are brought into the mix. Various species of lilies (such as the Easter lily, tiger lily, Asiatic lily, and others) are popular household decorations—and extremely poisonous to cats. Consumption of any part of the plant will cause symptoms such as vomiting, depression, dehydration, and abnormal urination patterns. Although the exact mechanism of toxicity is unknown, it is known that the kidney is the toxin’s primary target, and the cat may experience kidney failure if left untreated. If you own a species of lily and are unsure of its danger, check to see if it’s from the genus Lilium or the genus Hemerocallis; these contain the main toxic species. AVOCADO Despite being a beloved staple at parties worldwide in the form of guacamole, avocados seem to be poisonous to nearly everything except humans, one of the few mammals capable of eating this delicious fruit. Avocado contains a natural antifungal substance known as persin, which has been demonstrated to cause heart muscle and mammary gland necrosis in various species. While cats and dogs haven’t been known to exhibit well-documented side effects, other potential pets such as horses, rabbits, mice, sheep, and other domesticated animals have exhibited harmful symptoms after the repeated consumption of avocado.[7] Along with the toxic persin mentioned previously, the large inner seed presents a choking hazard. Birds in particular seem to be incredibly susceptible to avocado poisoning. Symptoms include weakness, depression, messy plumage, reluctance to perch, and respiratory issues. BREAD DOUGH Getting bloated and dying from alcohol poisoning seems like the kind of death only a human would manage to pull off, but pets can experience this same fate if they consume uncooked bread dough made with yeast. Upon consumption, the warm, damp environment of the stomach can induce yeast cells to undergo ethanol fermentation, a metabolic process in which sugars are broken down into carbon dioxide and ethanol (aka the alcohol in alcoholic beverages). In bread dough containing fermenting yeast, the release of carbon dioxide is what makes bread rise. It isn’t difficult to imagine why this would be a problem if the dough was eaten by a pet. The expanding dough could potentially cause a gastric blockage and make the animal’s stomach distended and bloated. Furthermore, the ethanol byproduct released by fermentation will be absorbed into the bloodstream, causing alcohol poisoning, which can quickly prove to be lethal if the animal isn’t rushed to the doctor. Watch out for symptoms such as vomiting, weakness, central nervous system depression, elevated heart rate, hypothermia, and a distended stomach. SAGO PALMS The sago palm resembles a miniature tropical palm tree and would be a seemingly innocent plant to give your backyard a little tropical taste. However, the sago palm is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Ingestion of this plant by pets can be extremely lethal. The plant contains numerous toxins with varying effects, the most prominent being a compound called cycasin. Upon consumption, cycasin is broken down into a compound called methylazoxymethanol (or MAM, which is much less of a mouthful). This causes liver failure by damaging liver cells and interfering with the liver’s ability to produce glucose.[9] MAM is also carcinogenic and can cause harmful mutations. Common symptoms of sago palm toxicity include vomiting, blood in excretions, increased thirst and urination, easy bruising/bleeding, and neurological signs (seizure, paralysis, etc). Poisoning has been observed in dogs, sheep, cattle, and other animals. Humans are also known to be susceptible to it. You may want to plant a real palm tree in your yard instead of a sago palm if you’re trying to achieve that tropical look. FIREFLIES This one’s for all of the reptile lovers out there. Fireflies are typically seen as a symbol of natural serenity and beauty, but to certain reptiles, they are tasty, miniature harbingers of death. Fireflies contain self-defense poisons called lucibufagins that, when ingested, have proven to be highly lethal to various potential pet reptiles, including chameleons and lizards such as the bearded dragon. Amphibians like frogs are also at risk. After eating the insects, lizards often retch or vomit and experience a dark change in skin color. Before you chuckle at the irony of a reptile turning black after eating a bright, glowing insect, know that this is no laughing matter. At this point, death often follows after about two hours.[10] Stick to feeding your pet reptile insects that are known to be safe and nutritious rather than feeding it random ones you find in the wild. They aren’t adapted to eating every kind of bug in the world.

"body": "Anyone who owns a pet knows that animals have no qualms about trying to eat random objects they find lying around the house. Cats chew on various plants, rats and mice nibble practically anything, and dogs work part-time as vacuum cleaners when food is dropped on the kitchen floor.\nHowever, many things that people wouldn’t ordinarily give a second thought to can actually be incredibly toxic to common household pets. Animals don’t have the same metabolisms as humans; a compound that human bodies can break down effortlessly may prove to be lethal in a smaller animal at the same dose. Here, we will explore several foods and plants that you may not realize are present in your pet’s reach—and the potential medical dangers they can bring if consumed.\n \n CHOCOLATE\n\nThis may not be shocking to many animal lovers, but pets do not appreciate the joys of chocolate quite as much as humans, probably because it kills them. They can cause harmful overstimulation as well.\n\n ONIONS\n\nWhat makes people cry and pets die? Symptoms to look out for include weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, pale gums, discolored urine, and overactive saliva production.\n\n MACADAMIA NUTS\n\nMacadamia nuts are highly valued by snack lovers for their high contents of minerals, antioxidants, and more. Dogs can also get a few bonus side effects if they consume these delicious snacks: vomiting, weakness or mild paralysis, hyperthermia, and muscle tremors. The exact cause of macadamia nut toxicity in canines is unknown; it is theorized that it could be a natural product in the nuts themselves, something introduced during manufacturing, or toxic fungal side products.[3] With proper medical attention, macadamia nut toxicity is generally treatable, and symptoms resolve within 12 to 48 hours, but it’s probably a wise idea to not leave piles of macadamia nuts lying around your house, as tempting as that sounds to snack lovers.\n\n GRAPES AND RAISINS\n\nGrapes don’t exactly emit an aura of danger (unless you’ve recently read John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath), but these small snacks have very large consequences when ingested by a dog. Raisins are especially easy to drop on the floor unnoticed, so be extra mindful when shoveling large handfuls into your mouth during your next snack run.\n\n SWEETENERS\n\nIf your dog is feeling bummed about not being able to eat chocolate anymore, here’s some exciting news: It’s no longer allowed to eat candy as well! The possible choking hazard is bad enough; a bad liver and low blood sugar would not be a good way to reward your dog for doing tricks.\n\n LILIES\n\nPet owners know that cats love to chew on plants for no reason in particular. If you own a species of lily and are unsure of its danger, check to see if it’s from the genus Lilium or the genus Hemerocallis; these contain the main toxic species.\n\n AVOCADO\n\nDespite being a beloved staple at parties worldwide in the form of guacamole, avocados seem to be poisonous to nearly everything except humans, one of the few mammals capable of eating this delicious fruit. Symptoms include weakness, depression, messy plumage, reluctance to perch, and respiratory issues.\n\n BREAD DOUGH\nGetting bloated and dying from alcohol poisoning seems like the kind of death only a human would manage to pull off, but pets can experience this same fate if they consume uncooked bread dough made with yeast. Watch out for symptoms such as vomiting, weakness, central nervous system depression, elevated heart rate, hypothermia, and a distended stomach.\n\n SAGO PALMS\n\nThe sago palm resembles a miniature tropical palm tree and would be a seemingly innocent plant to give your backyard a little tropical taste. titleComputer Jargon Untangled
bodyAh computer lingo. It's sometimes tough to understand and if you're not computer savvy you may be left wondering what on earth they are saying. For instance, what is a walled garden? Is it a literal garden surrounded by a wall like in the olden days? Is it the stuff of Jane Austen? No, a walled garden in computer terms means a group of pages linked to each other but not linked to by other pages. So they're stand alone. This seems a bit weird since the whole point is to link to other pages, these do not. Sadly, this tactic doesn't fly and they will likely have a lower page rank than regular sites. Time on page refers to, oddly enough, the time a person spends on a certain webpage. Go figure! The time is calculated from when someone clicks on to when they click off. The longer they spend on a page the better as this usually means they have found what they are looking for and are reading the information. If they click on and then immediately off you have work to do on your site (or they landed there by accident). By comparison, the bounce rate is the percentage of users who enter and then leave a site without looking at any of the pages. Were they there by accident or did your site bore them to tears so they took off for the hills? The site map is something we all love to use on websites, especially those that are built correctly. This simply means that you can easily find what you are looking for by clicking links to other things on the site.Saves us time and if we are redirected quickly we will be far happier than having to wait around for the new page. An e-commerce site is one that is devoted to retail sales so it will have handy links, a built in shopping basket and hopefully an easy to use check out system so that we can get our stuff and go. Finally latent systematic indexing. This is when search engines index commonly associated words in a document. These are also called long tail searches and it helps us users find what we are looking for faster and without a lot of unnecessary clicks. Search engines are there to help us with our searches so keep them happy with your own website and you'll be good to go! http://www.TorontoSEO.Company has been offering up SEO and online marketing services since 2003. titleIdeal Solutions To Success Online
bodyIf you have ever spent time looking for ideal solutions to success online, you could find yourself very frustrated. You found that there are basic ways to succeed in this line of work. You know that online work isn't hard, physical labor. Working online is easy in that there isn't a lot of physical work involved. People who work hard as builders, factory workers, office personnel and in administration, must work hard and produce good results or they no longer have a job. Online work isn't hard physically. However, it takes tenacity, perseverance, and a little knowledge to be successful. Perhaps herein lies part of your annoyance. Let's look at some things that bring frustration into your ideal online performance. The items are not listed in any particular order of difficulty or ordered frustration levels. Number 1, Building a Website The number one thing that frustrates many people and keeps them from being successful online is building a website. This one thing kept me from being successful online years ago. When you find the right training building a website can be really easy. You don't have to know HTML to build one today. You can learn how to make a website at certain locations on the Internet. There are places where you can learn how to make a free website. Number 2, Finding a Domain Name The best way to relieve frustration from finding a domain name is to first find the niche you want to promote. The name of your site needs to match the niche you have chosen. So, the way you keep this from being frustrating is to identify your niche, and then write a list of 10 to 15 names that describe your niche. It's like choosing a title for a book, the title must tell what the book is about. Same with your domain name. It must tell what your niche is about. I prefer to stick with a .com. It's just a personal preference that you don't have to adhere to. Number 3, Getting Site Ready Until you learn, getting your site ready for search engine optimization can be really frustrating. Actually, it can be next to impossible if you don't have the proper training. Again, I have a page for you to review that explains the ins and outs of preparing your site for SEO. Again, you can write articles, use social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. The big question you need to ask is, "Where are you going to get the training and knowledge on how to make these ideas work for you?" Number 4, Getting Traffic The number one goal for any marketing site is to drive traffic to it. There are many ways to do this, but the only way I choose to do this is by writing good content for my website. What if you can't write, or at least you think you can't? Many sites offer training on how to write. The training on a few sites is phenomenal. Every bit of the training is to help you build a site, monetize it and then drive traffic to it. You can learn so many ideas on what to write that you will never run out of something to write about. Getting traffic is almost done for you. All you have to do is follow directions. Number 5, Training Before I found a helpful site, training was my nemesis. The lack of training defeated me every time and cost me money. The training I have gotten has given me a handle on success. I have learned how to succeed because I have been trained well. Following are a few things I have been able to find online: Certification Courses: 5 Levels 1. Getting Started 2. Build Your own Traffic Producing Website 3. Making Money! 4. Mastering Social Engagement 5. Achieving Maximum Success Through Content Creation Each level has several courses and the training available to make you successful! I repeated most of the lessons. Some were simple but needed more exploring. Others were new to me and my then limited expertise. I can't believe how much knowledge is packed into these lessons. Yet the progress from one step to the next is given in easy steps for those who aren't technologically proficient when they begin the courses. You Get All the Training Every site that I tried before this would promise they could teach me how to be successful. What they taught me was that I needed to hire a group of professional online gurus to help me build a successful online business. I paid good money to learn this, too. Their ads said that even a monkey could learn how to use their program. I guess that I'm not as smart as a monkey because I couldn't begin to understand what they were trying to teach me. "You'll never believe how easy it is to make money online," their ads read. I learned the hard way, out of pocketbook hard way, that paper will lie still and let you write anything on it. At least the paper they wrote on did! I was never able to follow more than the first couple steps. Not nearly enough to learn anything. However, all that has changed now. Since I found this site, I have learned how to be successful online. All I've done since I've been here is grow and grow. That's where I am. That was what I was looking for in the first place. Can I tell you that I found a place where you can work at your pace, make the amount of money you want to make, and work when and where you want to. Work for Yourself The best boss you will ever have is YOU. Working for yourself online doesn't require lots of energy. You don't have to have a specific location where you go to work. With today's technological advances, you can work from nearly anywhere. I prefer to work at home with my family nearby. That's where you can find yourself, too. Are you ready for the change? Are you ready to be your own boss? Then don't wait! Visit me to begin today!

titleHow Do I Know If I Have Breast Cancer? Symptoms & Treatments
bodyWhat are the signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer? There are several common and some distinct signs that are seen when breast cancer develops. The signs and symptoms of cancer include: Lump in breasts Change in size/shape/appearance of breast Change/new dimple on breast skin Recently inverted nipple Peeling/flaking of skin around nipple (areola) Redness over breast skin The cause for the development of cancer is yet unknown however, when the cancer affects the breast it results in abnormal development of breast tissue cells. The cancer-affected cells in the breast begin to multiply faster and uncontrolled which then begin to form lumps (tumorous growths). The cancer is also known to spread (metastasize) to the other surrounding tissue and organs, including the lymph nodes. Breast cancer is mostly seen beginning in the tissue cells of the milk-producing ducts (also known as invasive ductal carcinoma) or it may begin in the lobules (invasive lobular carcinoma) as well as any other part of the breast. How is Breast Cancer diagnosed? It is treated successfully when it is diagnosed sooner and treated accordingly. These are some of the best and most common diagnosis tests for detecting breast cancer: Breast examination - This is a physical examination of the breasts that lets the doctor check the breast tissue for lumps. The doctor will check the breasts and the lymph nodes in the armpit for abnormalities. Mammogram - This is an x-ray imaging test for the breasts. These are very useful in seeing any abnormal growth in the breast tissue. Ultrasound - Ultrasound test uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed of the internal structure within the breast. This test will effectively highlight any type of abnormal lump or mass in the breast. Biopsy - The surgeon will use minimally invasive surgical method to remove a small portion of the suspected cancerous tissue from within the breast. This breast tissue sample is then sent to a pathology laboratory for detailed analysis. Breast MRI - The breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic imaging test. It uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create a significantly detailed cross-sectional image of the breast tissue. A contrast dye is often injected before the breast MRI to help highlight any abnormality in the breast tissue. These tests help in diagnosing cancer. If breast cancer is found in a person, then the doctor will advise one of these tests to stage the breast cancer: Blood test - A CBC (complete blood count) test is most useful in determining the stage of breast cancer. Advanced mammogram Breast MRI Breast CT (computerized tomography) scan Breast PET (positron emission tomography) scan The staging process helps the doctor to determine the extent of growth of the breast cancer and this in turn helps to determine the best-suited breast cancer treatment for the particular case. How is Breast Cancer treated? There are various different methods for treatment of cancer. The type of treatment mainly depends on several factors, such as the stage of the cancer, its size, are of affecting along with the patient's age, overall heath level, etc which the doctor will consider. These are the various types of the cancer treatments: Surgery Surgical removal of breast cancer is one of the most common and effective treatment methods. In this, there are sub-types of surgical processes that are performed, including: Lumpectomy - This is a selective cancer surgery treatment for smaller sized breast tumors. The surgeon will use a wide local excision method to remove the cancerous tissue as well as a small margin from the surrounding healthy tissue as well to prevent chances of the cancer from recurring. Mastectomy - This is one of the major surgeries for cancers. It involves removing the entire mammary gland tissue, including the lobules, fatty tissue, milk ducts, nipple, areola as well as some portion of the skin. Sentinel node biopsy - This surgical treatment of mammary gland is helpful in determining if the cancer has spread to the surrounding lymph nodes. The surgeon will remove a few of the closest-situated lymph nodes near the breast to check for cancerous cells or drainage from the tumor. Axillary lymph node dissection - In case the surgeon finds cancer cells in the sentinel lymph nodes the additional lymph nodes near the armpit might also need to be removed surgically. Contra lateral prophylactic mastectomy - This surgery involves removing both the breast tissues completely even if the cancer is found to be affecting one of the breasts. This is done to prevent the risk of the cancer recurring in the affected breast and the cancer from spreading to the other healthy breast tissue. Radiotherapy Radiotherapy, also known as radiation therapy, is a breast cancer treatment method involving the use of high-energy x-rays (or protons) to target and destroy the cancer cells in the breast tissue. Radiotherapy can be done as an external procedure or the surgeon might use minimally invasive surgical method to insert a small radioactive device into the breast (brachytherapy) for closer access in giving an effective radiation dose to the cancerous breast tissue cells. This is often used in combination with a surgical breast cancer treatment in case the surgery is not able to remove the entire cancerous tissue. Chemotherapy Chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer involves using a combination of specially designed medicinal drugs that are aimed to destroy the cancerous cells in the breast. This treatment method is also used before treating a large sized breast tumor. The medicinal drugs are effective in reducing the size of the large cancerous tumor in the breast which can then be safely removed using surgical methods.
