titleI'm No Cinderella
bodyHow many different ways can I express the disparity between the wild wild west and the easy easy east? Perhaps a list will better illustrate my point... West •Unguarded winding roads •Dirt roads •Wind storms •Elevation (poisoning) •Grizzlys, mountain lions, wolves, etc. East •Smoothly paved roads no matter where you are •"Brad's dirt driveway is so cute" •Wow it's breezy today •That hill really gave me a run for my money •Awe look at the cute chipmunk But the kicker. The real kicker? They wear their cowboy hats. While driving. I'm not sure about you, but I find it difficult to drive with a baseball cap on, let alone a full brimmed, block out the haters, don't talk to me unless you keep beef jerky in your glove compartment, cowboy hat. I feel like I need to be drinking whiskey neat to fit in here. Even the tiniest of the western creatures elicits quite a disturbance out of little ol' east coast me... Glacier National Park - in all of its pristine glory - drove me away not via grizzly encounter or even the snow that I continuously fell thigh deep into while attempting to walk to the dazzling edges of Lake McDonald. Oh no. It was none other than a small, inconspicuous, perhaps even adorable (if you're into that sort of thing) mouse. ![IMG_8330.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmc5jNXeb9CQpto4C56H2PCmph2nd61ySsyoPy4MWH7Yiv/IMG_8330.jpg) I lay beneath the covers on a cool 30 degree night dreaming frantically along the currents of my melatonin-induced slumber. As my internal world grew into a heartache, I was awoken by the dream's intensity or perhaps the shuffling taking place somewhere nearby. Both? Anyway, my eyes immediately grew into saucers as I listened for what could be a number of things according to my imagination: a bear trying to enter Honey (ironic), a wolf devouring the remnants of poor Bambi, an axe murderer lurking in the shadows waiting for his chance to strike. But alas, I was not so lucky. The noise was coming from inside the van. I flicked on a light and held my breath. The patter of tiny claws brought my attention to the kitchen. No, the sink. And there it ran. A mouse darted from the sink towards the safety of the covered stovetop. So I did the only thing I could do. I screamed. I racked my brain for my next plan of action, settling on what I've learned from watching many movies based in Manhattan. I grabbed a frying pan. ![IMG_8341.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWtGjcb3uuiTFoTRMP5ENLA9SWPd8MhwtbjnGMg6uk92n/IMG_8341.jpg) With my new weapon, I lit the stovetop, hoping I could smoke the sucker out - back out the way he came, mind you; I wasn't trying to eat fried mouse that night. I slammed cabinet drawers, waited with my frying pan in the ready position, and even went so far as to hiss like a cat, considering Eyore was no help as he slept soundly in the midst of this hoopla. When I thought I no longer heard the shuffling of my interloper, I crawled back into bed, trying to ignore the fact that I could see my breath in the night air. Despite my best efforts, the 4 am hour did not seem to quiet down, and even my own body warmth (as I played twister inside my giant sweatshirt) was non-existent. Sleep would not be returning. By 5:17 am I was driving the dark roads of northern Montana as the radio sang "Lets Get it On" by Marvin Gaye. Never before have I looked![IMG_8374.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYRBTwfA97KpJmtR7XPHm3kgpESmbH7jKRAwCpPZcUdNr/IMG_8374.jpg) forward to 6:00 am as this would provide the necessary sunlight to navigate the sharp turnes and large dark figures looming in the distance. The saddest part of it all? The mouse has refused to acknowledge its eviction notice. Thus, I have taken drastic measures in the form of cheddar cheese and mouse traps. Perhaps there is hope for me yet in becoming a calloused-handed, survival of the fittest, wide-brimmed wearing hat gal of the west. ![IMG_8348.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNvwKEXmP76xnZLMo5f9SELEcB2P8XU9AuR1CXR7wprhr/IMG_8348.jpg)

titleThey Call me Mellow Yellow
bodyIt's official. Honey, Eyore, and myself have completed more than 50% of our 48-state extravaganza. After five wonderfully warm days spent in Moab, enjoying the company of my co-camper, Bill, and our fantastic campground host, Andy, it was time to breach the halfway mark. A quick detour into Idaho once again set me on my path to Wyoming. ![Eeyore 3.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR9i84KB5XqegTxFtxDDQeZBvsgsS7YiJPPknEnUf4qFV/Eeyore%203.JPG) ^^^Honey, Bill, Eyore, Homey (left to right) Yellowstone National Park, our country's first national park, creeps into Idaho and Montana, thus offering me just enough confusion to question whether Wyoming or Montana became our 24th state. Dropping in from the west entrance, I scanned for large animals lurking on the roadside in what I thought was Wyoming - until a road sign welcomed me to Montana - only to be followed by my GPS claiming I had just entered Wyoming. 'Twas a confusing moment, but a moment nonetheless. Anyhow, my first day spent in Yellowstone was a far cry from disappointment. Snow capped mountains. Glistening rivers. Steaming geysers. Turquoise hot springs. My amazement of the landscape was only matched by the lack thereof from the land's natives. Namely, the bison and elk. At my first of countless road blocks due to bison crossing, I obviously rolled down my window for a clear shot of these 2000 lb hairy beasts. Mistake number one. As Eyore locked eyes with Bison #1 (we'll call him Hank), Bison #2 (Jeff) got a good old sniff and headed directly for Honey. Eyore all but lost his shit. I immediately dropped my phone, yanked the pup to the ground with one hand as I earnestly rolled up my window with the other. With less than a foot between us and Jeff, I gently eased down the pedal in an effort to avoid witnessing bison horns impale Honey's driver-side door. ![IMG_8221.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPyR6gLCdHxyxs4Bmg7DLXAUBCYtJ9he8eaA6kAjvJ6wM/IMG_8221.jpg) We are the interlopers in this lush vast landscape. Remember that. Once I accepted the animals' ubiquitous presence, I soon noticed the gifts they left behind. Do you remember when you used to pile into your mom's sedan with three of your closest friends on a drive to Friendly's? You anxiously awaited the drop off while dreaming of the toppings and flavors of that creamy ice that awaited you. Yet every so often this delicious trip was made grander when you and your friends decided to conquer the 12-scoop sundae. When the dessert arrived, you all grabbed your slightly scratched silver spoons and dug into the pile that lay before you. Well, picture an all chocolate 12-scoop deluxe version of this scenario and then imagine viewing such a sundae every five feet. On the ground. Hardened. Are you picturing it? Let's just say, I wasn't running for my silver spoon. I was carefully watching my step though. ![IMG_8253.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYvRXGDMgYS9rfze4e9phz1N8sRAumCKWiG2GJFkW3Jbc/IMG_8253.jpg) That night, I enjoyed a campfire under the stars among good company for the perfect ending to a beautiful day. The following day, Eyore and I were met with a herd of Elk casually enjoying some breakfast within our campground. Perhaps this time Eyore realized that he was far smaller than what appears to be a deer on steroids and decided against causing a scene. ![IMG_8274.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSxqNX49hDadjzvAfhser2untRrdTv2puq4feMzQxsndJ/IMG_8274.jpg) ^^^Old Faithful Eruption Despite the breathtaking views, a winter storm (in late April - sick joke) caused us to be on our way after two nights in the oldest park. In less than five minutes, we were in Montana. State #25 baby! After 200 miles without ever losing site of the white mountain tops, sprawling farmland, and crystal blue skies, I can safely say I think I'm going to like it here. Oh what adventures await... ![IMG_8236.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWw3ceJk76Ewrn9W9ZSCMpxDSFHmwc6MjnXQrTrBGQM6c/IMG_8236.jpg) ^^^Thermal Ground ![IMG_8239.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmTDm1jYEwsFQYP627P1dKY3i2nke1QFRAxiiiEkJHrorP/IMG_8239.jpg) ^^^Hot Spring ![IMG_8295.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZDfZBEfL2eqqfVXgL1LdAa6abdPTfhC9wprH9pWvsWYa/IMG_8295.jpg) ^^^Hot Spring Terraces

titleOh My Moab
bodyUtah may be well on its way to becoming my favorite state. Snowboarding was simply the layer of ice cream before the toppings really start coming into vie for your taste buds' attention. In the last few days, I've stayed at a Deadhead commune - complete with natural hot springs - learned to earn the respect of the Utah desert, and more importantly, gained an immense sense appreciation for my own mortality. ![IMG_8027.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUUkHBpUxmHP7tA2g8AVH31UkKgxV9ceGPWynP67d4Uve/IMG_8027.jpg) After finding my body, and more or less my mind, still in tact post Angel's Landing, I may have become too big for my britches. Any hike in comparison seemed infantile. Thus, after a day spent melting into the cedar floors of Honey in the 80 degree heat in Moab, I decided the next day would be spent enjoying the great sandy floors of the desert. With an early start, we found a superior campground, complete with minimal cell service and outhouses with a door and roof. Eyore and I scurried along Park Ave in Arches National Park, believing this two mile hike would be enough for one day. ![IMG_8083.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVAmup9izfKdNeXWd9mbySXqnvoSdsgLp6mwftDjNrQLM/IMG_8083.jpg) We returned to Honey with the intention to admire Castleton Tower, a legendary climbing wall which sits atop a deceivingly steep mountain. Thinking we would just gaze at the tower from below, Eyore and I set off on the trail which almost immediately required some climbing in lieu of a simple one foot in front of the other. I promptly fell and tweaked my wrist. Carrying on, the tower didn't seem to be too far away. I continued to tell myself such invalid information for at least an hour as we traversed the rocky land, often loosing the trail. I sought out kirins which took the place of any formal trail marker and proceeded to add rocks to the top of the tiny towers, hoping the next shmuck wouldn't lose their way as much as I had. ![IMG_8113.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR3d7p1iFRuL5AjB4WCtY1iCtrfBcV8899SE5fioC3Zxv/IMG_8113.jpg) ^^^Kirin Oh wait, how could I forget?! There was a wind advisory in affect. That deafening sound that made me question a waterfall's existence in the desert turned out to be gusts of wind strangling the imperious Castleton Tower. Closing in at the top, I met the only other person crazy enough to climb this hike in a wind storm. Thackeray and I embarked on the last few traverses along a Billy goat trail edged into rolling pebbles and cracking rock. When we breached the ridge, I was once again met with shear drops on either side. To put the intensity of this situation into perspective, I was blown to the ground trying to take a picture of Thackeray. Literally blown over. I crawled to the base of the tower in an effort to remain alive long enough to document our triumph. As Eyore bounded back down the mountain in front of me, I wistfully remembered when I, too, was 14 and bursting with energy (dog years, people). On our way back to the campground, we cooled down with a dip in the Colorado River. I woke up with dried mud in my bed with the remnants still clinging to my spine. ![IMG_8100.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbahLemtmThAdrkQpnmh2hD99mW8VZ7i6B7e9nF6hPdi3/IMG_8100.jpg) Day three in Moab proved to be a sore reminder of the previous day's exertion. I'm realizing that my lack of planning is taking a toll on my body. I began our hike with the intent of an easy breezy three mile hike. This soon exceeded seven miles. On our return through the looming canyons and criver (creek + river), my stomach decided to join the party as a talkative participant. I found myself singing, "I'm gonna eat a big burger and some fries," to the tune of "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves." I think the desert heat is going to my head. I threw Honey into drive and meandered into the town's main hub, seeking out the Moab Brewery. Needless to say, I just finished an entire burger and I'm waiting out my digestive tract to fit in some gelato.

"body": "Utah may be well on its way to becoming my favorite state. Snowboarding was simply the layer of ice cream before the toppings really start coming into vie for your taste buds' attention. In the last few days, I've stayed at a Deadhead commune - complete with natural hot springs - learned to earn the respect of the Utah desert, and more importantly, gained an immense sense appreciation for my own mortality.\n![IMG_8027.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUUkHBpUxmHP7tA2g8AVH31UkKgxV9ceGPWynP67d4Uve/IMG_8027.jpg)\n After finding my body, and more or less my mind, still in tact post Angel's Landing, I may have become too big for my britches. Eyore and I scurried along Park Ave in Arches National Park, believing this two mile hike would be enough for one day.\n![IMG_8083.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVAmup9izfKdNeXWd9mbySXqnvoSdsgLp6mwftDjNrQLM/IMG_8083.jpg) \n We returned to Honey with the intention to admire Castleton Tower, a legendary climbing wall which sits atop a deceivingly steep mountain. I sought out kirins which took the place of any formal trail marker and proceeded to add rocks to the top of the tiny towers, hoping the next shmuck wouldn't lose their way as much as I had.\n![IMG_8113.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR3d7p1iFRuL5AjB4WCtY1iCtrfBcV8899SE5fioC3Zxv/IMG_8113.jpg)\n^^^Kirin\n Oh wait, how could I forget?! I woke up with dried mud in my bed with the remnants still clinging to my spine.\n![IMG_8100.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbahLemtmThAdrkQpnmh2hD99mW8VZ7i6B7e9nF6hPdi3/IMG_8100.jpg)\nDay three in Moab proved to be a sore reminder of the previous day's exertion. I'm realizing that my lack of planning is taking a toll on my body. I began our hike with the intent of an easy breezy three mile hike. This soon exceeded seven miles. On our return through the looming canyons and criver (creek + river), my stomach decided to join the party as a talkative participant. I found myself singing, \"I'm gonna eat a big burger and some fries,\" to the tune of \"I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves.\" I think the desert heat is going to my head.\n\n I threw Honey into drive and meandered into the town's main hub, seeking out the Moab Brewery. \n Needless to say, I just finished an entire burger and I'm waiting out my digestive tract to fit in some gelato.",

titleEye on Zion
bodyWhich would you rather? To be a little bit happy each and every day or experience the zenith of euphoria one day only to fall into an endless abyss of darkness the following? I, myself, do not know if I can play this round of the classic game, Which Would You Rather? Yet it has become a question that toys with my emotions and pulls at my thoughts in the wee hours of the morning. I think I tend to naturally fall in the latter category. Fortunately for me, I’ve been enjoying the peaks of happiness here in Utah. By day two I was snowboarding down the 9500+ foot mountains of Park City, pumping out my calves and laughing when I made a wrong turn and found myself lost, thereby missing my bus. Despite yet another unforgettable experience, I was unprepared for what lay ahead… ![IMG_7730.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSPiP4zn4Zv1UzBSbH5nNAUN2M7Hdb1ruYzsN7SN8puHP/IMG_7730.jpg) Zion National Park is officially my favorite place in the last 23 states, 10k miles, and 3 months that I have been exploring - or as I like to call it, “Vanventuring.” Zion Day One: All of the campgrounds were full, thus creating a problem for future Megan. Current Megan decided it was time for a hike. Eyore and I waited in what appeared to be a line for a Disney roller coaster but turned out to be only the wait to board the park shuttle. We slid into a two-seater and settled in for the 40 minute drive to The Narrows, an impromptu decision made only 10 minutes into the drive. We walked along the paved trail that paralleled the Virgin River before coming to the mouth of fire colored canyons. Meet The Narrows. Unprepared and without a second thought, I walked into the Virgin River with nothing but shorts, a tank top, and my water-resistant hiking boots – resistant being the operative word. At 46 degrees, I lost most feeling in my feet in about 5 minutes. The rest of my body followed shortly thereafter as the river rose to my hips and Eyore casually lay in my arms unaware of the sliding rocks and building rapids beneath us. I’m not sure why Zion decided that walking – and swimming – in a river warranted a hike whereas other parks simply call a river a “Caution Swim At Your Own Risk,” but I’m sure glad some lunatic decided to walk chest deep in icy water and call it a stroll. After seeing a waterfall spew off a golden ledge, Eyore and I turned back, deciding he had enough swimming lessons and I had enough of an arm workout for the day. ![IMG_7819.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdAizYevHQcNMHk1TpereKN2r6d4fgb2GeQqBKJduF1wW/IMG_7819.jpg) Back on the shuttle, future Megan contemplated where we would be sleeping for the night. Cue Anthony, one of the nicest people I’ve come across on my journey. After hearing my dilemma, he offered me a registered spot in the parking lot of a nearby hotel. With clean bathrooms and a complimentary apple turnover the next morning, I was ready to hit Zion bright and early. ![IMG_7824.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmT1vxvwR3a8RapRyEk7jZ1A5FbgZJfzeWAT3hF9Z9uEa8/IMG_7824.jpg) Day Two: Eyore was to remain with Honey as I attempted to trek one of the most revered hikes in all of the National Parks: Angel’s Landing. I soon discovered why the destination was labeled as such since you may not be able to reach the top of this 1500 foot hike until you are an actual angel. As I sat in the shuttle bus for the second day in a row, I couldn’t help but worry that my Nike sneakers were not going to be doing me any favors. Unfortunately my hiking boots were still water-logged from the previous day’s shenanigans. Seconds before departing the bus, the intercom reminded us that people die from falling off the cliff every year only to be followed by the bus driver cautioning slippery conditions after last night’s thunderstorm (which by the way closed The Narrows, reminding me of the beautiful synchrony that has become my trip). As my hands told the story of a recovering alcoholic suffering from Delirium Tremens, I took a few deep breaths to manage my nerves and headed up the first of countless switchbacks. I fell into a groove and began enjoying the majestic views and drop-offs that seemed easy enough to avoid so long as I hugged the inside curve of the rock. I made it. I got to the top. Easy peasy lemon squeezy what was all the fuss about? I double checked with a group of women that we were in fact at Angel’s Landing: ![IMG_7880.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdFoThFkYhK8FmAuRrzPrXCZ1wYQJ38E3Rz3avburBKWP/IMG_7880.jpg) Me: This is the top, right?! Women: Um, no that is. *Points to an enormous pointy peak littered with bolted chains* Me: You’re lying. Me: I have to pee so bad right now. Getting a kick out of my shock and full bladder, they distracted the hikers below as I told the gentleman in front of me to not look back, and I eagerly found a bush. With one less thing to worry about – because how embarrassing would it be if they found my body soaked with pee – I urged forward. Heaps of sand laughed as my Nikes slipped like they were seeing a banana peel for the first time, and I clutched the chains for dear life. No exaggeration. Behind us was 1000 feet of air and below that, the unforgiving ground. Me: This can’t be legal. Me: This can’t be legal. Me: This would not be legal on the East Coast. Guy: That’s because the East Coast sucks! When the chains finally ended, I thought for sure I had made it to the holy landing. But alas, I was told to walk along an edge until I found the chains again. This time, the 1000 foot drop-offs were on either side of us. Me: This can’t be legal. I finally surrendered to the fact that I was cheating death and began to pick up the pace. I figured this way if I fell, maybe some people would think I got close enough to the end and tell the newscasters that I fell from Angel’s Landing. It would be a much more romantic article than if I was half way up and tripped on a tree root. After what seemed like a medieval torture trick, I discovered what all the hype was about and enjoyed my lunch among the soaring birds and audacious chipmunks. At these altitudes, the little buggers fear nothing if it means they can steal some granola. One even kissed my finger in hopes of a benevolent return of goods. ![IMG_7899.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaN8hbrzpypZtW4gZkiw6mpHhXgpKJCWwYaCTf8onFH3W/IMG_7899.JPG) The downwards scramble was less frightening since I knew what to expect, but at that point my legs were so pumped from the hike up that they seemed to be listening to the Harlem Shake while the rest of me put all our confidence into my arms and the chains. As you can see, I lived to tell the tale of Angel’s Landing. Would I do it again? Yes. Would I do it tomorrow? I’m sorry, but Bryce Canyon is calling my name…

titleNeed a Ho for All These Spuds
bodyBe right back, moving to Seattle. Washington in general is definitely among my favorite states thus far. Between the endless shades of green that blanket the scenery to the snowcapped mountains playing hide and seek among the clouds, our first president would not be ashamed of such a tribute. My first stop in the Evergreen State was Cape Disappointment State Park. As I hiked along the very earth that supported Lewis and Clark all those years ago, I couldn't help but gape open-mouthed at the site of the Columbia River Gorge shaking hands with the Pacific. 'Twas a sight for sore eyes. ![IMG_7504.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQme2iLdse1BXF6omo1hqMfYnvdy4sPQobJVCuwyydxdPZt/IMG_7504.jpg) As I reached Seattle a few days later, I instantly fell in love with the city surrounded by water. Thanks to my friend, Caitlin, I enjoyed visiting the must-sees as well as indulging in another round of Pacific sushi. As most people know, Pike Place Market is one of Seattle's main attractions. I am not most people. I sought out the market at the request of my mother who wanted me to see the men throwing fish. Apparently this is a thing. With a quick Uber, I landed in the heart of the market, first stopping to smell some old books in a new and used bookshop. Some people stop to smell the roses - I stop for dusty pages. Upon request, I waited until the men dressed in plastic overalls began hollering and tossing what was probably once a fish but now looked more like a giant chewed-up oyster. Hate to disappoint, but these guys only throw one poor sea dweller for the enjoyment of tourists like myself. ![IMG_7511.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmewhg8vJwvvLkxa7H77VpBqxJWovfZa5GdCWUcBUNrZ4S/IMG_7511.JPG) After soaking up the rest of the bustling market, I sought out a cup of clam chowder. Because who goes to Pike's Market without eating something salty fresh? At first glance, the bowl looked pretty large and filling. At second glance, the bowl looked pretty empty. I wiped the last bit of chowder from my lips, threw in some saltines to soak up any remaining morsels, and simply looked up from my lunch spot on the outskirts of the market. And then I saw it. A tattoo shop. I knew I was jiving to get a little needle and ink action again, but I was waiting for the right moment. I thought, "Now is as good as time as any." In less than an hour, I was walking away with my little tribute to Orion's belt, an ellipses - because I like to write, right? -, and the musical, Mama Mia. Listen, a lot goes on in my head, so a couple dots can mean a lot! ![IMG_7667.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVvT9ELJmja9fYnJEUn4nP9K8qYGWzgUCf7WChTD71iNm/IMG_7667.jpg) Later that day, I met up with working girl, Caitlin, and found myself immersed in the legendary Cherry Blossoms. Between old books and flowers, superb seafood, and men throwing things around for the hell of it - I can be a thing;) - Seattle may have a new resident one of these days. But alas, 27 states were whispering sweet nothings in my ear, so I pushed on. A night back in Oregon surrounded me in over a foot of snow after driving through the breathtaking Cascade Mountains. From East Oregon, I finally dipped down into Idaho to enjoy Easter in the Potato state. I will say the state has more than spuds. Drenched by the waterfall's mist caused by relentless winds, I gazed upon Shoshone Falls, otherwise known as Niagara of the West. In fact, Shoshone Falls is actually over 40 feet taller than Canada's mega shower. U.S.A! U.S.A! ![IMG_7692.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQzLkwGkeZcPSacFpZqVHKQCfWJTJQ4U9rbcygvwc49vR/IMG_7692.jpg) Anyway, I am now holding on for dear life (perhaps an exaggeration) as this unabated wind shakes Honey to her very core. My candles are flickering. Eyore's water bowl is beginning to look like the tsunami lake outside. And the temperature is rapidly dropping into the 20s. I am prepared to meet the elements with two foot warmers, a heating pack which I plan to tie around my waste, and perchance some of my snowboarding gear. It's all just part of the vanventure. ![IMG_7669.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVxwgVp4fQje2LvPVtDA96eSBn2uEbCTHMb1kAgY1o482/IMG_7669.jpg) ^^ Ran along the highway so that I could caption this: No Udaho...my life is now complete ![IMG_7707.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVjtBZtUQf6uXuECBsoDJgRPcKAEUcPJMhiXcaCTZBU8m/IMG_7707.jpg) ^^Literally being blown away by the Idaho wind

titleWho Called the Police?
bodyWhere has the time gone? I feel like we haven’t had the chance to catch up in a while, what with the hail storms, spotty service, and inevitable distracting indulgence. So, let me fill you in… ![IMG_E7337[1].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSRVbpFSb3rx3jRgeK3DWKFSmcLcGNwfVBwmjC9qkTp1R/IMG_E7337%5B1%5D.JPG) After hugging the widest trees on Earth at Sequoia National Park, I saw it only fit that I track down the tallest. Redwood National Park was calling my name – either that, or the elk were just particularly loud that night. Anyway, after speaking to my parents in a layover campsite, I told them I was hoping I would be on my way to the Redwoods before any major snow hit. With a quick text in the morning to let my mom know I was headed north to the National Park, I slowly made my way up the remainder of California’s Route 101, finally landing in the heart of Earth’s gentle giants. Despite the red and green landscape that filled my lungs with the freshest air known to man, I knew I had a problem when I saw that I was in a no-service campground. Yet even the hail storm that littered my windshield with frosty Dippin’ Dots did not preclude my efforts of tracking down the nearest payphone. Once I arrived, however, my three quarters were not enough. Just another thing I couldn’t afford in spendy Cali. I could only hope that my mom would give me the 24 hours we discussed before having a parental melt down. ![IMG_E7343[1].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmRc2Xq2gNEB9UDZjdUeAaznmrqneTN639CRhbt8KLxrkZ/IMG_E7343%5B1%5D.JPG) The next morning, I was running around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to pack up camp and check the ranger station for any road closures. As I was speed walking back to Honey, mentally checking off the final engine fluids and propane to-do’s, I heard a truck slowdown behind me. The driver hollered, asking if my name was Megan. With a knowing nod, I answered the ranger. She curtly replied, “Call your mother.” With 18 hours under her belt, my wonderfully insane mother called not only the National Park, but the local police department as well. How she managed to have someone find my exact campground in the most disperse of the national parks is beyond me. When I finally drove into an LTE location, I called the lady that tracked me down from over 3000 miles away. After asserting that I was not lying in a snow-covered ditch awaiting Eyore to locate help via message-in-a-bottle attached to his collar, my mom hung up to enjoy her lunch. The lesson here? Never try to hide from Deb. Post police debacle, I drove along the coast of Oregon, soaking in the massive bluffs that popped up like enormous pointy polka dots along the beach. As I climbed to the top of one, appearing out of a foliage tunnel, I couldn’t contain the smile that broke across my face. The crashing waves and the smooth drift wood made for the perfect morning yoga. ![IMG_7374[1].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZXDabb7iWFBF113vQ3cYFfTNuxvmVEHQ1JChPByoCzH9/IMG_7374%5B1%5D.JPG) Finally, I made my way to Portland. After crashing with my friend, Ryan, for a few nights I can safely claim the following as fact: Pacific sushi is the best sushi; I’m talking melt in your mouth, order a second roll, wish you were the very rice that held that fish in place, sushi. Second, it rains in Portland. A lot. Yet despite the clouds, two-minute hail storms, and subsequent sun showers that make you feel as if you’re flipping through the channels of a television set, you can always find some donuts. In the span of eight hours, Ryan and I tried eight different donuts. And by tried, I mean whole-heartedly devoured. I eventually left Oregon’s central hub with a few extra pounds – both in gut and clean laundry. Now, my sights are set on Seattle, and boy do I hope it’s sleepless. ![IMG_7385[1].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUGEmsLyVJEWEkYdqkgCq8dRXre6Hpj8rEJLpCNSJMrDP/IMG_7385%5B1%5D.JPG) ![MTEN7817[2].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbw88jQxBWry4HTL1VjsoKY8BxZ7gtsyq9GBsMFT1U5Ru/MTEN7817%5B2%5D.JPG) ![IMG_7444[1].JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcYA8oWCaX74KR4TWq6LEZBDrdrDtKWSZwuRhZvDF8JeY/IMG_7444%5B1%5D.JPG)
