titleSexual healing
bodyI’m not talking about Marvin Gaye here, I’m talking about healing deep rooted sexual trauma. There is a horrifying statistic that exists out there. A woman is more likely to be sexually assaulted than not in this day and age. A study showed 2 out of 3 college age males admit if they thought they could get away with it they would rape a woman. Houston we have a major fuckin’ problem here. How do we fix such a horrifying reality? For survivors of sexual trauma it is often that the nature of the event becomes a sexual imprint for the type of sex that is preferred as if to somehow take the power back by making it wanted. It’s the only way the mind can rationalize the body reacting and orgasming though the sex was unwanted. This can happen to men as well as women and has scarred too many people. The best way for these people to find the pleasure in sex without the the nightmare attached is through sexual surrogacy. It’s a way to relearn how to make love and have the experience be about the open connection and blending of souls that can be a beautiful experience as much as it can be fun to fuck like animals. Deeply connected love making has nothing to do with monogamy. It has nothing to with promiscuity. It has a little to with lust and a lot to do with love. It has a lot to do with patience and surrender. It has everything to do with respect that starts with self and is given to others. Here’s a little science that trumps any mortality anyone might think I might thrown down. You exchange a piece of your soul with everyone you have sex with. Science has even done research to prove this as a fact and not a debatable idea or superstition or whatever someone might try to use to avoid accepting this simple truth. Currently in the United States if someone is paying you for sex, unless there is a camera and distribution involved it’s called prostitution and is considered to be illegal. In ancient times the role of the whore was a sacred calling of a spiritual nature that served the community in teaching how to have sex be the pleasure and bond strengthening experience it was designed to be while allowing for any kink that gets you off within limits that are healthy for the human psyche. I look back at my own first sex and realize how fortunate I was. I was in love and made love. Not a lot of people have that in their past as the first time they had sex and too many have a memory that is an endless nightmare of sexual assault. One of my causes is working to have sexual surrogacy become legal and to reintroduce the sacred whore to our culture. In my mind had I known at 18 that I could go to a woman to learn to be a proficient lover, I would have worried a lot less about sex. In life anytime I am not wondering about where sex will show up in my life I am a much more relaxed and chilled out man. I might be a Shaman, but I am am still a human male with a healthy sex drive. While I might not always be monogamous I am very picky when it comes to who I am going to share a piece of my soul with. Over the course of my life I have always had at least 6 women I am a surrogate boyfriend to. If I don’t have these women in my life I go look for them. I give them everything they need in a companion without the sex or romance. Romance in this day and age has become about possession. “My boy friend/girl friend.” “My husband/wife.” “My girl/guy.” Possession. No one owns anyone. We live in an age where women have been made into sex objects to a degree that too many never feel as though they are heard by any man. I often have found in life that the guidance I need and I am often seeking is how to a better father and a better man in general. I’ve often found I have received the best guidance in that area from the women in my life. Regardless of how natural homosexuality is we are designed to couple off and create more generally speaking. Other than dolphins we are the only species on the planet that has sex for fun as well as procreation. I’m a humanist, not a moralist. I live by one rule. Don’t go to jail, if you like it, do it again, if not, don’t. When it comes to sex I look at why it is I want sex beyond the fact I get horny. I look at my past and where sex has led me when patience and discernment were not exercised. I am not proud of some of the things I have done. So what, we all have that shit and it’s called learning through experience. If I didn’t like what happened that one time, do something different next time. Bruce Lee said the that simplicity is the key to brilliance. At this stage of my life at age 42 after being married 3 times, number 4 sounds less and less attractive all the time. It’s not that I would never live with a woman again, I merely do not need a piece of paper that tells us we own each other. It’s not that I am simply looking for someone to bump uglies with on a permanent and exclusive basis. In mastering the art of Tantra my personal views changed quite a bit. I am not going to preach them to you, not my style. However there is an aspect of life that is not for everyone that takes a true understanding of what love is and how to live in it. I have often said I fall in love with damn near every woman I meet. I can never pick one. In the past I felt guilty about this thing I can’t turn off that sees the beauty and potential in every woman. What makes that falling in love so unique with each is the unique rose they are. Each with their thorns from the past that created the beauty of their bloom upon our first meeting. It’s due to this I have often said I never pick women up. Like a rose a woman is to be appreciated where she blooms best and if a replanting is needed take care of the roots that fed her and made her bloom the way she did when you met. What is simple in statement is never so easy in living. Simple and easy rarely match up. The human is a savage creature of instinct and emotion. Sure we have evolved and can override those base instincts and learn to manage our emotional states, however the fact that it is a fight to tame a beast shows how much of the beast still resides within each of us. Having an occupation of spiritual sexual teacher is one that teaches students to tame that beast so that maybe we can reduce those numbers of sexual assaults and save future generations from the horror stories I have heard too many times from too many women and men alike. It’s not a bout religion and it’s not about morality. It’s about being responsible with your flesh to be responsible with your soul to keep yourself in the best mental, physical and spiritual health regardless of your other spiritual practices. Sexual healing starts with preventative care. It starts with understanding there is nothing wrong with you and exploring who are sexually is as important as any other aspect of your being and needs to be done in a safe and supportive environment in order to ensure your own well being as well as the well being of your partners. A lot of the charity I work I do is in assisting those with sexual trauma heal themselves. The one thing that so many of them still need is that physical lesson of what love making can be so they can perform with confidence with future partners and know what it is they are looking for when it comes to healthy sex in a healthy relationship. Don’t go to jail. There is a need for these kinds of teachers and healers in our world and in our country right now the need is great. This is why I am and always will be a supporter of the legalization of prostitution. I want the door open for people to get the true education they need to have the best chance at living without the horrors too many already have had to survive to reveal the strength within them. I want those who have lived through those horrors to have a better chance of healing and experiencing the beauty that connected love making can be as well as the fun of other sexual play.

"body": "I’m not talking about Marvin Gaye here, I’m talking about healing deep rooted sexual trauma.\n\nThere is a horrifying statistic that exists out there. A woman is more likely to be sexually assaulted than not in this day and age.\n\nA study showed 2 out of 3 college age males admit if they thought they could get away with it they would rape a woman.\n\nHouston we have a major fuckin’ problem here.\n\nHow do we fix such a horrifying reality?\n\nFor survivors of sexual trauma it is often that the nature of the event becomes a sexual imprint for the type of sex that is preferred as if to somehow take the power back by making it wanted. It’s the only way the mind can rationalize the body reacting and orgasming though the sex was unwanted. This can happen to men as well as women and has scarred too many people.\n\nThe best way for these people to find the pleasure in sex without the the nightmare attached is through sexual surrogacy. It’s a way to relearn how to make love and have the experience be about the open connection and blending of souls that can be a beautiful experience as much as it can be fun to fuck like animals.\n\nDeeply connected love making has nothing to do with monogamy.\n\nIt has nothing to with promiscuity.\n\nIt has a little to with lust and a lot to do with love.\n\nIt has a lot to do with patience and surrender.\n\nIt has everything to do with respect that starts with self and is given to others.\n\nHere’s a little science that trumps any mortality anyone might think I might thrown down. You exchange a piece of your soul with everyone you have sex with.\n\nScience has even done research to prove this as a fact and not a debatable idea or superstition or whatever someone might try to use to avoid accepting this simple truth.\n\nCurrently in the United States if someone is paying you for sex, unless there is a camera and distribution involved it’s called prostitution and is considered to be illegal. In ancient times the role of the whore was a sacred calling of a spiritual nature that served the community in teaching how to have sex be the pleasure and bond strengthening experience it was designed to be while allowing for any kink that gets you off within limits that are healthy for the human psyche.\n\nI look back at my own first sex and realize how fortunate I was. I was in love and made love. Not a lot of people have that in their past as the first time they had sex and too many have a memory that is an endless nightmare of sexual assault.\n\nOne of my causes is working to have sexual surrogacy become legal and to reintroduce the sacred whore to our culture. In my mind had I known at 18 that I could go to a woman to learn to be a proficient lover, I would have worried a lot less about sex. In life anytime I am not wondering about where sex will show up in my life I am a much more relaxed and chilled out man.\n\nI might be a Shaman, but I am am still a human male with a healthy sex drive. While I might not always be monogamous I am very picky when it comes to who I am going to share a piece of my soul with.\n\nOver the course of my life I have always had at least 6 women I am a surrogate boyfriend to. If I don’t have these women in my life I go look for them. I give them everything they need in a companion without the sex or romance. Romance in this day and age has become about possession.\n\n“My boy friend/girl friend.”\n\n“My husband/wife.”\n\n“My girl/guy.”\n\nPossession.\n\nNo one owns anyone.\n\nWe live in an age where women have been made into sex objects to a degree that too many never feel as though they are heard by any man. I often have found in life that the guidance I need and I am often seeking is how to a better father and a better man in general. I’ve often found I have received the best guidance in that area from the women in my life.\n\nRegardless of how natural homosexuality is we are designed to couple off and create more generally speaking. Other than dolphins we are the only species on the planet that has sex for fun as well as procreation.\n\nI’m a humanist, not a moralist. bodyFuck If seeing that word bothers you it is due to you being mentally ill. Here’s why. In psychological terms you have become delusional and inflict harm on yourself and others due to a delusion based on brainwashing or programming or propaganda or marketing. They are all ways to describe manipulating people to do what you want. If fuck bothers you, every reason you give for why is invalid. Here’s why. It never bothered you until someone told you it should. If millions of people believe the same lie, it’s still a lie and their stupid for thinking numbers make them right. Language is our thoughts expressed, it’s how we attempt to define ourselves and set ourselves apart as individuals or as part of a social gathering of living situation. If you ever want to have control over people the first thing you do is change their language. It is crucial to control and limit how they express themselves to create a standard to judge people as being deserving of belonging or judged as unworthy and cast aside. If people don’t comply with your language demands they are punished until they do comply. The punishment is often exclusion with the emotional intent of devaluing them as human beings due to noncompliance with your structure of controlling a mass of people. In simplest terms we use language to say do it our way or else. You will bow to the authority we have given ourselves to tell you how to think and what to think we will fuck your world up if you don’t. I have no problem with hearing a child say fuck as there is nothing obscene about the word unless you want to use it to judge people and see them as inferior so you can feel superior to them. I said fuck as a child not to be obscene, I said it because it fit. Even as a child it made no sense that there were words we weren’t supposed to say, yet most used them anyway. I was chastised by a CEO on Linkedin for my use of Fuck. What makes her a fucking hypocrite was as she attempted to admonish me she made the mistake of saying fuck to me and admitting her use of it on a regular basis in different settings. If it’s not OK everywhere it’s not OK. If its OK anywhere it’s OK everywhere. If you don’t speak up they won’t know who I’m talking about. What does it take to convince the masses a word is obscene? Tell them the word is bad. Create a system of punishment for using the word. Be consistent in repeating your message and your punishment of violators. Use an emotional punishment that will encourage them to comply. Make those who don’t comply seen as inferior. Use religion and government and the education system to spread the message. Use forms of entertainment to reinforce the idea. Repeat with consistency over time to achieve systematic societal change creating inferior and superior based on language. Fuck over any and everyone to set examples publicly to show why the masses should comply. Repeat cycle and never give up the lie. The lie being that your not trying to control the masses. This is the magical 10 steps to brainwashing a populace. Anyone think I am wrong? If you do, please speak up and let’s fuckin’ talk it out.

There is no cookie cutter to telling your own tale. There are no key words or buzz words or trigger words that are who you are and are the stories of your life. Your history tells them why they should be listening to you now when the question comes up. It’s why we have resumes.

I have been blogging since MySpace first introduced the feature back in 2006 or 2007. People connect to a personal story. People are tricked into thinking you are being personal by using key words like “tips or tricks to be successful” and it the worst kind of emotional abuse there is.

These tips and guides are teaching you to exclude and how to exclude and they are making up reasons as to why you should exclude and programming you to think their way so they can make a living off of your ignorance.

Sad but true.

A great song by Metallica that when a friend tagged me on it when she posed the video on Linkedin, I didn’t realize that was my Rock God message for the tone of my day and the message I had to share with the world in the interest of soul healing.

Then I had a phone conversation with someone who does what I do. One of things that came up was me admitting that all emotional healing is self healing and that as a healer I simply guide and direct you in how to heal yourself. body
If I do not feel like you care about me, I am going to give you my bare minimum and nothing else.

If I do not feel like you want to know anything about me, I am going to be completely apathetic towards you and anything you want.

If I do not feel valued by you, I will not value anything you have to offer me.

We all do this. We all feel this way and if you want to lead it has to start with you and it has to start with you caring about them and letting that show. You have to show them you care about them to your own detriment. You have to show them you will sacrifice your wants and your needs to make sure they are taken care of.

You have to actually care about them more than you care about you. If you cannot do that, you cannot lead a rock. People will do what you say because of your title, but you will never actually lead them because there is a huge difference between compliance and following a leader.

Remember in the story, the king serves his subjects. To best serve your direct reports you have to know what they need as an individual human being to perform better. Each of us is different and it takes different motivations. For some people just hearing thank you on occasion is all they need. Some people need someone to dump on and vent their work frustrations to. Having that person around makes the job easier, does it not?

The point here is that you need to figure out how to be what they need when they need it and that is not an easy thing to do. It gets easier the better you know your people. It becomes easier to anticipate their reactions and gage your message based on how you have seen them receive like messages. Your experience with them will be your greatest teacher in how to inspire and motivate them.

Pay attention when they think you are not. You will be surprised at what you learn. Ask them questions about themselves and the stuff they keep on their desk. Listen to what they say and if need be make notes when you get back to your desk.

You will only be as good as you prepare to be.

This means that before every interaction with a direct report you need to prepare for it by reviewing everything you know and thinking about what you want this interaction to be. Remember you have the responsibility of exemplifying the standard of what this interaction should be. You cannot break. You have to be prepared for anything.

What do you know about what is going in Bob’s life right now?

What message do I want to convey to Bob?

How does Bob respond to this type of discussion?

What questions is Bob likely to ask?

How am I going to answer those questions?

These are all things that should be a part of your mental checklist every time you stop by to chat with someone.

What will surprise you is when you start doing this to your spouse and your friends after doing at work all day for a while. titleThe Road to Leadership: Part 6
body
There is a profound difference between having a title that makes you the boss and being a leader who just happens to have a title. People will tolerate the former and want to follow the latter eagerly.

The last place anyone should ever find out about a bad year is at the end. I recommend monthly one on one meeting specifically for performance and career review. There should be an agenda for this meeting that gets forwarded to your direct reports. The agenda should include a section for your direct reports concerns so you can prepare for them and not be caught off guard face to face.

If they see you crack, they know they have you and it takes time to build their confidence in you again.

These meetings are also your opportunity to check in on longstanding personal issues you may know they are dealing with. It gives you the privacy to let them talk. Always be wary of Human Resources’ guidelines for material discussed during these meetings and never let yourself forget you are a professional who will not lose their demeanor.

I hate to say it, but sometimes your direct reports will try to bait you into saying something in private they can use against you later. This also goes for running into them outside of the office.

Let me give you my personal experience. I was at the bar and had a few and some of my direct reports were there and I made the mistake of telling one of the women and I quote “If we didn’t work together, you would be someone I consider dating, but since we do, oh well.”

I never made any other mention to her again. I never asked her out and never even looked at her cross eyed. She was a strong performer. Her performance began to slip a year later and I nearly lost my job. I never drink around my direct reports and I never engage in social activities with them unless it is company sponsored. Even then I keep my professional mask on.

Never allow yourself to put into a position where they even feel the need to question your character. Once they start, they will never stop questioning it. In that same year, I had another direct report being overheard saying she was going to have my job.

When given the choice, I kept her. A year later she was singing my praises to my boss. It can be done, but notice I said “a year later” I forgot to mention all the hard work it took to repair that relationship. When I left the company, that woman was one of my star performers and we left on good terms.

Here is the point. If you screw up, own it and fix it, no matter what it takes. It just could create a better leader in you and a new leader to replace you if you leave.

Team meetings can be what makes or breaks their perception of you as a leader.

Is there an agenda?

Did they get that agenda the day of the meeting or a couple days before?

Have you rehearsed your delivery?

This is your chance to shine in front of them and continue to earn their respect. Every team I ever managed had one rebellious soul. This person is also what I like to call the “Mob Boss.”

Let me put it this way, is there one person that you know will be the first to stir the pot and raise as much descent as possible?

Here is how you beat them. Tailor your delivery to them. Prepare everything to answer the questions you know you don’t want to hear. Be prepared to not even blink and have the answer that will make the Mob Boss shut up and listen.

When the rest of them see you have their unofficial leader eating out of your hands, you win. They now have more respect for you and are now listening to you and not just waiting to see what the Mob Boss is going to say. I know it seems like a lot of work, but to be a leader takes a lot of work.

Also, think of it this way, by the time you implement everything in this guide and have it running for six weeks, I guarantee you will not be working half as hard as you are now to keep up and you will be leading the way. If it helps, remember I do this kind of thing for a living and I like to live well.

That brings up another good point. Do not be afraid to let them know what your qualifications are, but do not flaunt it. Here is some of the highlights from my resume.

Improved sales by eighty-percent creating an additional twenty million dollars in monthly sales revenue for the client.

Designed the operating model for the department.

Rewrote portions of Air Force technical manuals.

Managed three-hundred and fifty customer service and sales representatives and a team of twelve supervisors

I could go on, but I think you get the point. I have the experience being a leader and now as a consultant I train leaders. I know what I am talking about. It’s why this material comes across with the attitude it does. You see I have already paid my dues and proven myself repeatedly and now I am trying to help you avoid some of the mistakes I did make and make it further then I did.

I told you to tell them your own story, well, let me tell a little bit more of mine.

At age seventeen I went to basic training for the United States Air Force. I was trained to be an Electronics Communications Technician. I was trained to be a leader at the same time. To give you an idea of my character, let us go back to basic training.

I had been hospitalized for strep throat and had to be moved to a new group of guys due to being in the hospital for too long. Well long story short, my mom got worried and was calling the base. My TI’s pulled me in the office and told me to go call her. My response.

“Sargent Anonymous, are the rest of the guys going down too?”

“No.”

“Then why should I get to go?”

That was the first time I showed what a leader is by simply being a leader. I saw no reason for any special privilege and they ended up making me go call my mom.

When I was stationed in Oklahoma, I was the technical order supervisor and the office files clerk. I was also the lead trainer as I was two levels ahead of my rank in completed training tasks.

When they sent a team to judge us on how we did our jobs, my four man crew was recognized as the outstanding performers out of over a thousand. My shop, was the outstanding work center out of five squadrons. My flight was the outstanding flight. My squadron was the outstanding squadron and these are the people I learned from and with.

The team that judged us, told us they had to rewrite the criteria because we blew it out of the water. We rewrote sections of technical manuals that changed the way our business got done.

We made the Air Force change the way our business got done by our performance and tireless dedication to being the best at what we did.

When I worked at my first call center I was in trouble for something there was no training for or no documentation for. I responded by creating a training manual and the first Standard Operating Procedures the company had seen. I later went on to rewrite three sales scripts with client approval that boosted sales eighty-percent.

I modeled a redesign of a customer service call center operating model and took the worst performing team in the office with the lowest morale and turned them around with sustained performance. I helped to create a behavioral interview guide. I designed a reward and recognition program. I am leaving out a ton of stuff. Also realize there were many seventy-plus hour weeks during those years as I was developing this.

The point is this, I know my shit because I have worked it and seen it work.

It is my experience that gives me the confidence to speak very directly with you on this topic. I am direct because I want to make sure you understand the concepts that I’m taking time away from being to share with you.

Now, let me be the first to knock me off my high horse by telling you about some of my failures.

I failed a group of people once. I failed them by not having the strength to stand by my convictions. In the end there were about forty people who got screwed because I did not stand and fight for them.

I failed a couple hundred people during the summer when I sent them home early every day without pay so I could make my numbers.

I failed a guy once by overloading him and then had to fire him because of it.

The point is this, you will fail at times, but you cannot let those failures be what drives you. Simply take the lessons from those failures so you do not repeat the same mistakes again.

My high school principal told me once “I will give you a million second chances, but I will never give a third for the same thing. You are going to make mistakes but if you do not learn your lesson and make the same mistakes over again, I cannot help you, because you are not trying to help yourself.”

Wise man, I still refuse to call him by his first name to this day. I respect him too much. He earned that respect by knowing and caring about every single one of his students. That is the attitude a leader takes to any job. You care about the people around you and you know them as well as you can.

Well long story short, my mom got worried and was calling the base. My TI’s pulled me in the office and told me to go call her. My response.
\n
“Sargent Anonymous, are the rest of the guys going down too?”
\n
“No.”
\n
“Then why should I get to go?”
\n
That was the first time I showed what a leader is by simply being a leader. I saw no reason for any special privilege and they ended up making me go call my mom.
\n
When I was stationed in Oklahoma, I was the technical order supervisor and the office files clerk. I was also the lead trainer as I was two levels ahead of my rank in completed training tasks.
\n
When they sent a team to judge us on how we did our jobs, my four man crew was recognized as the outstanding performers out of over a thousand. My shop, was the outstanding work center out of five squadrons. My flight was the outstanding flight. My squadron was the outstanding squadron and these are the people I learned from and with.
\n
The team that judged us, told us they had to rewrite the criteria because we blew it out of the water. We rewrote sections of technical manuals that changed the way our business got done.
\n
We made the Air Force change the way our business got done by our performance and tireless dedication to being the best at what we did.
\n
When I worked at my first call center I was in trouble for something there was no training for or no documentation for. I responded by creating a training manual and the first Standard Operating Procedures the company had seen. I later went on to rewrite three sales scripts with client approval that boosted sales eighty-percent.
\n
I modeled a redesign of a customer service call center operating model and took the worst performing team in the office with the lowest morale and turned them around with sustained performance. I helped to create a behavioral interview guide. I designed a reward and recognition program. I am leaving out a ton of stuff. Also realize there were many seventy-plus hour weeks during those years as I was developing this.
\n
The point is this, I know my shit because I have worked it and seen it work.
\n
It is my experience that gives me the confidence to speak very directly with you on this topic. I am direct because I want to make sure you understand the concepts that I’m taking time away from being to share with you.
\n
Now, let me be the first to knock me off my high horse by telling you about some of my failures.
\n
I failed a group of people once. I failed them by not having the strength to stand by my convictions. In the end there were about forty people who got screwed because I did not stand and fight for them.
\n
I failed a couple hundred people during the summer when I sent them home early every day without pay so I could make my numbers.
\n
I failed a guy once by overloading him and then had to fire him because of it.
\n
The point is this, you will fail at times, but you cannot let those failures be what drives you. Simply take the lessons from those failures so you do not repeat the same mistakes again.
\n
My high school principal told me once “I will give you a million second chances, but I will never give a third for the same thing. You are going to make mistakes but if you do not learn your lesson and make the same mistakes over again, I cannot help you, because you are not trying to help yourself.”
\n
Wise man, I still refuse to call him by his first name to this day. I respect him too much. He earned that respect by knowing and caring about every single one of his students. That is the attitude a leader takes to any job. You care about the people around you and you know them as well as you can.
\n

",

titleThe Road to Leadership: Part 5
body
I have two stories I want to share with you that will become tools you can use with your direct reports and in many other areas of your life as well. We deal with human beings with human issues and sometimes a simple story can help put them at ease. When one of your direct reports is having a bad day or a rough time in life, try this one.

A king one called his wise men to him and asked “Wise men, I want you to give me something that will make me happy when I am sad and make me sad when I am happy.”

“King, why would want such a thing?”

“Well, as king I can never allow myself to be too happy or too sad in front of the people. I want something that will help remind me that my people may not be as happy or as sad as I am.”

“We shall do our best sire.” The wise men went away and came back some weeks later.

“Oh good King we have done as you have asked and brought you something that will make you happy when you are sad and make you sad when you are happy.” They handed the king a ring.

“What is this, how will this ring make me happy when I am sad and sad when I am happy?”

“Look at the inscription sire.”

It read this. “This too shall pass.”

Life is a series of ups and downs and no matter how down it seems right now, this too shall pass.

You would be surprised how effective a good story can be at the right time. Use your personal history and don’t be afraid to tell your story to help your people have a better day. This next story is to illustrate what leadership can really be.

The term landlord comes from the term Lord of the Land and the Lord cared for the people who cared for the land and saw to their needs. The Lord of the Lords or the King cared for the Lords as he cared for the people. Most people don’t realize that the true king never sits on a thrown nor does he where a crown.

He is wandering his kingdom and finding those who have a need he can fulfill. As he helps these people, he gets to know them and he gets to see how it is they came to have this need. The king is a wise man and as he gets the full story he can see if these people live by the king’s law. If the king found these to be good people, then something wonderful would happen after he left. If these people were in foul of the king’s law, something horrible would happen after he left. Either way no one ever really knew who the king was and that was his power.

If you knew you were in the presence of the king you would put your best foot forward and make sure you were doing everything right, but that is not a fair look for the king.

There are two points to this story. The first is to always be doing what you know you should, because you never know who is walking by and second, the king’s subjects do not serve the king, the king serves his subjects.

Listening to your people is your greatest tool. They are on the front the lines doing the dirty work, so why not ask their opinion and make adjustments based on those opinions. Let’s face it, no one likes being told how to do their job by someone who has not or cannot do the job they do.

In my side work as a consultant and life coach it is essential that I listen to my clients and hear the needs they are telling me and see the needs they are showing me. Convincing people of the needs you see, but they do not is what being a true leader is all about.

It can take time to lead someone to the needs they do not see, but in your job you have the tools to help show them the right path to the best performance. If you do not have performance and career action plans for each of your direct reports, start writing because you are failing as a leader already.

Hard truth and I’m not here to wipe your nose, I’m here to make a leader out of you if you can do the work.

titleThe Road to Leadership: Part 4
body
Do you enjoy working sixty to seventy-plus hours a week?

I hated it.

It will cause you to burn out and have your performance slip. You need to take care of you. What does that look like for the modern leader?

I am glad you asked.

It starts with getting plenty of sleep. Then eat breakfast. Then monitor your energy level at six points throughout the day. Do you feel more energetic or less energetic?

Remember simplicity is the key.

Keep this log for three weeks. Do it every day, no exceptions and no excuses.

Once you know your energy pattern, schedule your energy draining tasks around your energy levels. I am better in the morning, so I schedule my heavy stuff in the morning. If you are scheduling your tasks around your energy levels, you will see yourself getting more done and being shocked at how much extra time you have.

This also requires a couple of other little tricks that you will need in order to get things done during those high energy times.

1. Let it go to voicemail unless you need to answer it.

If your kids school calls, you need to go. If Bob/Laura from “that” department wants to shoot the breeze, let them blow it into your inbox.

2. Set times of the day to respond to and file email.

It will build up and you need to deal with it, but if you make it a routine part of your day, you will spend less time dealing with it and more time doing something with or about it.

3. Let someone else be the hero sometime.

The Super-friends did not use every hero in every episode. Now I am sure I just lost most of you so have fun Googling that reference. The point is that you do not have to always be the one to save the day and that’s what being a part of a team is about. Every good leader knows it is good to let others shine.

4. Lack of preparation on your part is not an emergency on my part.

Do not let someone else’s lack of organization interfere with yours. If you are not taking care of what you need to in order to be more efficient, than don’t whine about it. No one wants to hear it and you will look like a spineless wanna be leader. I really just used wanna be.

5. Bring the noise.

Just make sure it is the right kind of noise. I would suggest music that helps you focus. Find stuff that blocks out the background noise and helps you think.

6. I am not here, even if you can see me.

It helps to clearly define to your direct reports the times when you are to be left alone unless it appears on this list and then give them a list. This gives you the time you need to do what you need to do.

7. Take a break

You are not a superhero no matter how many powers you have in your daydreams. You need to take a break and have a snack. Feeding your body feeds your mind. This is also a good time to stretch and get the blood moving. Take a short walk around the building.

8. Some things really do have to wait until tomorrow.

I am sorry but not everything is an emergency. Learning to prioritize better is essential. Learning to say “No.” is an even bigger time maker.

9. Say “I am sorry” and move on.

In other words take responsibility with your direct reports because they are holding you responsible whether you like it or not. It will save you time to just own up to it and work with them for solutions rather than trying to convince them it’s somebody else’s fault.

10. You have vacation time, use it.

Taking at least ten days off every six months or so is exactly what I would order for you to recharge and be ready for the onslaught that is being a modern leader.

The point is that you do not have to always be the one to save the day and that’s what being a part of a team is about. Every good leader knows it is good to let others shine.
\n
4. Lack of preparation on your part is not an emergency on my part.
\n
Do not let someone else’s lack of organization interfere with yours. If you are not taking care of what you need to in order to be more efficient, than don’t whine about it. No one wants to hear it and you will look like a spineless wanna be leader. I really just used wanna be.
\n
5. Bring the noise.
\n
Just make sure it is the right kind of noise. I would suggest music that helps you focus. Find stuff that blocks out the background noise and helps you think.
\n
6. I am not here, even if you can see me.
\n
It helps to clearly define to your direct reports the times when you are to be left alone unless it appears on this list and then give them a list. This gives you the time you need to do what you need to do.
\n
7. Take a break
\n
You are not a superhero no matter how many powers you have in your daydreams. You need to take a break and have a snack. Feeding your body feeds your mind. This is also a good time to stretch and get the blood moving. Take a short walk around the building.
\n
8. Some things really do have to wait until tomorrow.
\n
I am sorry but not everything is an emergency. Learning to prioritize better is essential. Learning to say “No.” is an even bigger time maker.
\n
9. Say “I am sorry” and move on.
\n
In other words take responsibility with your direct reports because they are holding you responsible whether you like it or not. It will save you time to just own up to it and work with them for solutions rather than trying to convince them it’s somebody else’s fault.
\n
10. You have vacation time, use it.
\n
Taking at least ten days off every six months or so is exactly what I would order for you to recharge and be ready for the onslaught that is being a modern leader.
\n

",

titleThe Road to Leadership: Part 3
body
I have been pretty direct and harsh on you the leader thus far. There is a reason for it. The responsibility falls on you to hold yourself accountable because they already do. It would be nice to have a fun warm and fuzzy conversation about leading people, but it’s rarely fun and warm and fuzzy. It gets down right messy because you are leading human beings and we are a messy race.

Just because we are at work does not mean we stop being human. Are goals are often to achieve superhuman results and we often find we are able to achieve them if we just push hard enough. I worked for a company once who used the following as a driving focus.

“Set unattainable goals and expect to reach them.”

Another place had the following on the wall.

“Perfection is the goal, excellence will be tolerated.”

Think about that. Excellence will be tolerated. If you can’t see everything wrong with that statement, you have no business leading anyone.

Most people spend their lives never achieving a measure of excellence and that which they do achieve is often under celebrated. I am not suggesting we celebrate mediocrity but that we recognize individual accomplishment as it applies to the individual.

“Hey Bob, nice job on that call.”

It really is that easy to motivate and inspire. Just a little bit of recognition that took 5 seconds out of your day and made Bob’s better for a little while. Now the trick is that this cannot be a trick, it has to be sincere because they are as smart as you are, maybe not as educated, but just as intelligent. The moment you underestimate their intellect for a moment, you lose their respect.

“If I don’t respect you, why should I try for you?”

If you want respect you have to give it and earn it. Show them respect to earn theirs. Respect demanded is faked. Respect earned is loyalty.

It takes time to build this respect and it shows in their performance. If they respect you, they will want to perform for you. If you give praise, they will perform to get it. Everybody likes to show off and they are looking to you for direction on what to show off. Praise the behaviors that you like to see when you see them more often and they will just start behaving better.

It is a simple behavioral management tool that can save your company millions over years in turn over. Read the studies for yourself in the cost of turnover and then look at the industry that the issue created. Managing your attrition rate starts at managing how you manage your people.

The next step is in your hiring. If you know the type of candidate you are looking for then how come you keep hiring the wrong people?

Look at your interview process.

While working for a Fortune one-hundred company, the supervisory staff created a new interview guide with an answer key and scoring system. The answer key is made up of the kinds of things you want to hear and how they rate in a four point system. Tally it up and then discuss it with the peer you conducted the interview with and make your decision while it is fresh in both of your minds.

Always conduct interviews in pairs. You always want to have a second set of senses when spending some one else’s money. Your hiring decisions affect the bottom line long after you make the hire.

What does your training environment look like?

Do you know how your trainer does their job?

Does your trainer know your expectations of what a trained direct report looks like?

Never assume anyone can read your mind and expect them to be surprised when they had no idea you were thinking in those terms.

Your documentation will make or break you. I am not talking about your paper trail to firing, but the documentation you provide for them to do their jobs.

All documentation should be efficient and simplistic in design for conveyance of instruction. In other words a kid should be able to follow it. All complexity does is to reveal how simple your mind really is. Intelligent thinking breeds simplicity.

The United Sates Military makes all their technical orders readable at a low level because a mistranslation could cost lives not money, but if enough money is lost then it is livelihoods that are sacrificed by cutbacks or firings due to performance.

Simplicity breeds efficiency. If you want to be organized you need to get simplified. Let us start with your biggest nightmare, email.

Most email programs allow you to set some rule based auto distribution set up. When I was using Outlook, I would create a folder for each direct report and set a rule to send their mail directly to their folder. When it came time for reviews I had a good place to start looking for material.

I also carried a legal pad with me everywhere I went. When I would stop and talk to one of my people and it had to do with performance in anyway, I jotted notes and then typed them into a word file for later use.

When it came time to write reviews, instead of clamoring about trying to remember things, I simply had to open two folders and a personnel file with some numbers. It took me very little time to write up my last set of reviews because I did my research each and every day and I took notes.

When you study your people, it gives you the information you need to tailor your approach to their development as much as it helps tell them how their doing. Taking these kinds of notes and making time each week to review your weekly data log will help you identify their true needs that the numbers don’t reveal.

Now let’s get into thought process.

Let’s see how I built my thought process and see if you like it.

I spent three weeks combing through quotes. When I was done I had fifteen pages or so of quotes I used to help direct my thought process towards being a better leader. I narrowed the list down to ten and then printed it out and laminated it. I hung it right where I would see it and so would everyone else. I then asked my direct reports to do the same. They made their lists, I got them laminated and while we each had a different set of quotes, we were taking the same actions together. Mine is still somewhere I can see it every day and I often use it when working with clients.

Who knows how to motivate you better than you?

Remember simplicity is your friend. If you take a more simplistic approach in your thoughts it allows you to have more variety in your actions. Those actions are what will inspire the thoughts in your direct reports and motivate them to perform for you. It will also show them you care and will gain some trust and respect that will be evident in their loyalty.

titleThe Road to Leadership: Part 2
body
The greatest tool you have is communication and understanding what communication really is.

We communicate through everything we do and say and everything we do not do and do not say.

Take a minute to really think about that statement with the idea of leading by example and thinking about what you say to your direct reports when you are speaking. Think about how they perceive you when you think they do not see or hear you talking to your peers.

Your people listen in on your conversations a lot more than you listen in on theirs. Think about that the next time you are in the hallway.

I used to joke about it with my peers, but it’s true, anytime you put a large number of people in one place, it turns into high school and I feel like I am a principal/teacher most days and the school counselor on others.

Then I became a parent realized I had been more like a father. I did my best work when I took the time to care about my direct reports as a father would care for his children. I believe in being the kind of leader that feels as if they failed you if the company needs to fire you.

I believe in guiding my direct reports as I guide my son. For the most part he knows what to do, if he doesn’t, he asks. Sometimes he asks for direction through his actions not his words.

I use his grades as his Key Performance Indicators or KPI’s. When I managed for call centers I looked at quality scores and handle times. I think you see how the concept applies universally in some cases.

Being a good manager prepared me to be a good father.

The point I am trying to illustrate is that every relationship, professional or otherwise starts with us taking the time to see what is being communicated so we may better evaluate what we need to communicate.

I could give you a list of tools that would be the same list you could find a bunch of places.

Instead of taking easy road out, I would encourage you to accept the challenge of using this as an excuse to gather your peers for a brainstorming session. If you accept this challenge, say as little as possible and examine the way your peers tackle the topic. This is an opportunity not to shine, but to learn how they think.

The more you learn the more you can apply to what you are doing and let your performance speak for itself.

When it comes to speech, learn the way that your direct reports talk. Tailor your message to their understanding, to their thought process which begins with the way they speak.

When you talk to them listen not just to what they are saying but how they say it. Take the time to notice everything.

Later, when still trying to figure out what to do, this will give you more to work with. Think about all the past experiences with this individual. Make sure you see the person not only a direct report.

Most of the time direct reports feel like the numbers they produce, a black and white result.

If you want them to care more about that result, you need to put some care into the work that produces that result.

You show your care by tailoring and personalizing your message. You show you care by saying what you mean and meaning what you say and backing it up one-hundred percent no excuses. It falls upon you to teach them to communicate better by being the example they have to follow.

I use the word “you” a lot and the reason for that is this. If you or I want to be a leader, you and I have to realize that starts with you and I so that we can lead them. Sometimes the team needs an I to lead the way.

Leaders don’t always have titles and they are rarely hired. True leaders are created by their own actions. If you want to lead them, it falls upon you to create a leader they want to follow. This is where motivation begins and ends.

If you want to learn to communicate better, I would suggest an organization such as Toast Masters International. While I was working for a Fortune one-hundred company, the director got the company to pay for a club on site. The club was open to all levels of employees and sharpened my skills quite a bit.

There are other tools out there as well for building a common language. The best way to do this is to create it within your organization so that it is tailored to what you do and the culture you are creating.

There it is, that buzz word we have all been waiting for “Culture.”

There is a reason everyone talks about it, the culture you provide is a part of motivating your people to want to be there and want to perform. When looking at your culture, look at all the pieces and the big picture. This takes time and its time well invested.

How often is anyone late to work?

Is it acceptable for anyone to be late to work?

Do you complain about not wanting to be there?

Does your attitude say I am happy to be here?

Were you late this morning?

How often are you late?

What rules do you bend?

Who knows about it?

Get the point?

This falls back to leading by example. Your motivation level towards your job reflects outwardly more than you think. If you are not projecting a motivated leader, why should they follow you or be happy to be around you?

Inspiration on the other hand, takes a more creative approach.

What inspires you to be at work?

What inspires you to be a better leader?

Who inspires you to keep showing up?

Who are you trying to inspire with your words and your actions?

How do you know it will work?

If you do not take the time to get to know what inspires your direct reports, how can you hope to inspire them to follow you?

The next time you have a one on one, pull out a career action plan and talk about where they want to be. Ask them why. Ask them why more often to a lot of the things they say. Their answers will tell you what inspires them to be better. You will see their thought process unfold and be better able to help them tweak it.

If you hate your job, you better find the things you love about it real fast or you find another job where you can lead. If you cannot find the reasons to inspire and motivate yourself to love your job and want to be there, then you have already failed.

I look at my direct reports as kids and I am there to take care of them for eight hours a day. If you cannot care about them in that way, you are not a leader and need to quit your job until you get it.

If you want to be a leader who is followed by choice not title, then this is the non-negotiable truth you both embrace and create the leader they need or deny and be the boss they tolerate for a paycheck.

      "body": "
The greatest tool you have is communication and understanding what communication really is.
\n
We communicate through everything we do and say and everything we do not do and do not say.
\n
Take a minute to really think about that statement with the idea of leading by example and thinking about what you say to your direct reports when you are speaking. Think about how they perceive you when you think they do not see or hear you talking to your peers.
\n
Your people listen in on your conversations a lot more than you listen in on theirs. Think about that the next time you are in the hallway.
\n
I used to joke about it with my peers, but it’s true, anytime you put a large number of people in one place, it turns into high school and I feel like I am a principal/teacher most days and the school counselor on others.
\n
Then I became a parent realized I had been more like a father. I did my best work when I took the time to care about my direct reports as a father would care for his children. I believe in being the kind of leader that feels as if they failed you if the company needs to fire you.
\n
I believe in guiding my direct reports as I guide my son. For the most part he knows what to do, if he doesn’t, he asks. Sometimes he asks for direction through his actions not his words.
\n
I use his grades as his Key Performance Indicators or KPI’s. When I managed for call centers I looked at quality scores and handle times. I think you see how the concept applies universally in some cases.
\n
Being a good manager prepared me to be a good father.
\n
The point I am trying to illustrate is that every relationship, professional or otherwise starts with us taking the time to see what is being communicated so we may better evaluate what we need to communicate.
\n
I could give you a list of tools that would be the same list you could find a bunch of places.
\n
Instead of taking easy road out, I would encourage you to accept the challenge of using this as an excuse to gather your peers for a brainstorming session. If you accept this challenge, say as little as possible and examine the way your peers tackle the topic. This is an opportunity not to shine, but to learn how they think.
\n
The more you learn the more you can apply to what you are doing and let your performance speak for itself.
\n
When it comes to speech, learn the way that your direct reports talk. Tailor your message to their understanding, to their thought process which begins with the way they speak.
\n
When you talk to them listen not just to what they are saying but how they say it. Take the time to notice everything.
\n
Later, when still trying to figure out what to do, this will give you more to work with. Think about all the past experiences with this individual. Make sure you see the person not only a direct report.
\n
Most of the time direct reports feel like the numbers they produce, a black and white result.
\n
If you want them to care more about that result, you need to put some care into the work that produces that result.
\n
You show your care by tailoring and personalizing your message. You show you care by saying what you mean and meaning what you say and backing it up one-hundred percent no excuses. It falls upon you to teach them to communicate better by being the example they have to follow.
\n
I use the word “you” a lot and the reason for that is this. If you or I want to be a leader, you and I have to realize that starts with you and I so that we can lead them. Sometimes the team needs an I to lead the way.
\n
Leaders don’t always have titles and they are rarely hired. True leaders are created by their own actions. If you want to lead them, it falls upon you to create a leader they want to follow. This is where motivation begins and ends.
\n
If you want to learn to communicate better, I would suggest an organization such as Toast Masters International. While I was working for a Fortune one-hundred company, the director got the company to pay for a club on site. The club was open to all levels of employees and sharpened my skills quite a bit.
\n
There are other tools out there as well for building a common language. The best way to do this is to create it within your organization so that it is tailored to what you do and the culture you are creating.
\n
There it is, that buzz word we have all been waiting for “Culture.”
\n
There is a reason everyone talks about it, the culture you provide is a part of motivating your people to want to be there and want to perform. When looking at your culture, look at all the pieces and the big picture. This takes time and its time well invested.
\n
How often is anyone late to work?
\n
Is it acceptable for anyone to be late to work?
\n
Do you complain about not wanting to be there?
\n
Does your attitude say I am happy to be here?
\n
Were you late this morning?
\n
How often are you late?
\n
What rules do you bend?
\n
Who knows about it?
\n
Get the point?
\n
This falls back to leading by example. Your motivation level towards your job reflects outwardly more than you think. If you are not projecting a motivated leader, why should they follow you or be happy to be around you?
\n
Inspiration on the other hand, takes a more creative approach.
\n
What inspires you to be at work?
\n
What inspires you to be a better leader?
\n
Who inspires you to keep showing up?
\n
Who are you trying to inspire with your words and your actions?
\n
How do you know it will work?
\n
If you do not take the time to get to know what inspires your direct reports, how can you hope to inspire them to follow you?
\n
The next time you have a one on one, pull out a career action plan and talk about where they want to be. Ask them why. Ask them why more often to a lot of the things they say. Their answers will tell you what inspires them to be better. You will see their thought process unfold and be better able to help them tweak it.
\n
If you hate your job, you better find the things you love about it real fast or you find another job where you can lead. If you cannot find the reasons to inspire and motivate yourself to love your job and want to be there, then you have already failed.
\n
I look at my direct reports as kids and I am there to take care of them for eight hours a day. If you cannot care about them in that way, you are not a leader and need to quit your job until you get it.
\n
If you want to be a leader who is followed by choice not title, then this is the non-negotiable truth you both embrace and create the leader they need or deny and be the boss they tolerate for a paycheck.
\n

\n

",

titleThe Road to Leadership Part 1
body
Here is an extract from a Nelson Mandela speech, written by Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

What is leadership?

There are traits that define a leader and they are traits that are visible in any true leader.

It begins with the acknowledgement that a leader’s first duty is:

To identify the needs of the people, and serve those needs until the goal is accomplished.

There are times that a leader will need to make sacrifices in order to meet the needs of the people who are taking care of the greater needs.

It is by the example that is set by the leader that the people follow.

Every true leader understands that not even the King or the Queen is above the law, they exemplify it.

No one ever has to question what a leader is doing, they see it in their actions and their attitudes and they operate with transparency.

A leader has nothing to hide and everything to share in order to provide for the greater needs.

To translate this into a corporate environment let’s take a look at what the core responsibilities of a leader in business are.

If you are in a leadership role, it is your job to educate, motivate, and inspire the people you lead.

It reminds me of an old joke.

A pirate was sailing along and they spotted a British warship. The Captain called out “Cabin boy, bring me my red shirt!”

The Captain put on his red shirt and the pirates were victorious. As they sailed on they found themselves being approached by two British warships. The Captain again called out “Cabin boy, bring me my red shirt!”

Again the pirates were victorious.

After the battle the cabin boy asked, the Captain, “Sir! Why is it you asked me to bring you your red shirt before battle?”

“It’s simple.” The captain replied, “I wear the red shirt so that if I am injured in battle. The men will not know, and they will continue to fight on for the ship, and for themselves.” The cabin boy thought for a moment.

“I see Captain. You care more for the men than yourself, and would rather die than have them try to save you and be lost themselves.”

“Exactly.” The Captain replied. It was then that they spotted three British warships coming towards them and the Captain cried out “CABIN BOY, BRING ME MY BROWN PANTS!”

Not every battle can be won, and even the greatest leader will acknowledge when they are out matched. The true lesson here is that it falls upon a leader to inspire, and motivate the people around them in achieving a common goal by any means necessary even if the leader makes the sacrifices.

How can any leader expect anyone to follow if they will not make the same sacrifices, which they are asking to be made. The Captain, Also took the time to educate the cabin boy about how he led. He does this so that maybe one day if the cabin boy found himself in a position to lead, he would be prepared for it.

Educating people about what you do prepares them to do it and helps them understand why they should or should not follow you. Do not look at the question, “Why?” as a question of your authority, but a recognition of it and an opportunity elevate their understanding and give them the opportunity to have a more active versus passive role. It gives the opportunity to educate them on the ownership of their job and their function. Helping your people understand the “whys” will often make inspiring them and motivating them into action much easier.

Think about yourself for a moment, do you not have an easier time getting into a project when you understand why you are doing it?

You are reading this book because you had an interest in being a leader, or you are a leader and you want to be better. You asked the question, “How can I be a better leader?” the moment you started reading this book. I wrote it, to answer that question.

I also have a few questions of my own.

“What do your one on one sessions look like with your people?”

“What does your daily interaction with your people look like?”

“How do you perceive these interactions?”

“How do they perceive these interactions?”

“How do you know?”

Every interaction is an opportunity to educate, motivate and inspire your people to perform at a high level and increase their loyalty to the company and to you. It is your leadership they follow, not company policies and it is you they are looking to show them how it is done. Here is what that can look like:

Every day you see these people when they come in. Do you say good morning?

Do you smile? Do you know anything about their lives to ask them about?

When I worked for a large inbound call center in Oklahoma City, we greeted each customer service representative with “Hi, thanks for coming today, I am happy to see you.”

I even watched a pizza place do the same thing. I used to go this pizza place in Oklahoma City called Cici’s. Anytime a customer walked in, the whole crew greeted them.

“Hi, welcome to Cici’s, thanks for coming in!”

When was the last time your boss told you they were happy to see you just because you came to work?

How do you think it would make you feel if they did?

The point is this. Each of us is looking for some positive acknowledgement of our existence. We spend a lot of that time at work. It could be they are having a rough morning, then you give them a reason to be a little happier before they start and you still have no clue what their life was before they walked in the door today

When you start some ones day off with that kind of positive acknowledgement it creates a desire to perform. Creating that desire is the first step to getting that higher performance. Without the desire you are going to spin your wheels, working five times harder than you need to trying to get them to buy in.

Instead of trying to get them to buy in, buy them. Buy them with your interest in their presence beyond their function. Create an environment where they feel cared about and they feel like they are valued and they will be happy to work hard to make you proud.

Think of them as your children and it changes the whole dynamic.

How do you best get a child to perform?

It depends on the child.

It is the same principle in dealing with direct reports. Each of us is motivated and inspired by different things. If you want to know what works, you need to talk to them. You need to get personal, find out their interests. The things that interest them are a great way to analyze their thought process and give you a better idea of how to best approach this individual.

titleThe Idea of Intimacy
body

When I talk about intimacy with people these days, I often refer to the song LET ME IN YOUR ROOM by Halestorm and here’s why.

The room in question is the place we all keep the things we tell no one about for various reasons. It’s where we bury the past and hope no one notices the scars we hid in the darkness of ourselves. Our darkness is where go to create the light we show the world.

Our darkness is as sacred as our light is divine.

Intimacy begins and ends with the dark part of yourself you share with someone else.

Intimacy has nothing to do with having sex and often sex gets in the way of being intimate.

One of the reasons my third marriage failed was due to a lack of intimacy. The sex was great, however it was every pother part of the relationship that was not and it was because of a lack of intimacy.

There were things I shared with my 3rd wife that were not well received and the response I got was not the one you need if you are spending your life sleeping next to someone. At the same time she would reveal as little as possible about herself.

I have a hyper sensitive intuitive gift to begin with. When I am in a relationship that involves living together, there is not much that I don’t get a sense of or know in what is going on behind my back. It makes a relationship with someone who will not acknowledge the connection and what I am able to do extremely difficult. It’s why after 2 years I am still not in a hurry to date again.

By the very nature of what I do, people share intimate details of their life with me. You will notice in my writing I don’t mention names. I do that to protect these people. When I work with people they trust me with an intimate part of their lives.

It’s why as a Shaman I often use the metaphor of the Raven totem as it applies to the work I do. The raven is the holder of secrets.

IN the years I’ve been doing this I have heard every kind of horror story you would never want to hear. Part of what I do as an Empath is hold that emotional pain as we talk to give them clarity and an opportunity to change their view and heal themselves by doing so. Until they do the pain will always return.

One of the worst things we do as a people is holding the past against each other. It’s what makes intimacy so difficult to find for so many. Often we keep things from each other because of the way someone reacted at one time or another when we let that part of ourselves be seen. It keeps us in a fear state of mind and keeps us from trusting people.

You find intimacy when someone says “It’s OK, you need to get it out.”

Then they let you get it out and give you the hug you need to remind you there is nothing wrong with you at all.

Life happens and we all go through some sort of hell. Your idea of living hell and mine are sure to be different and it’s not a contest.

I am writing this parked at the local airport where I’m sleeping these days in a car I am borrowing to sleep in. Here’s the Brightside.

There is no one around and I can focus on what I am writing without interruption. It’s a small town and the place closes down around 9pm.

To me it’s a little slice of heaven that I allow to be just that, instead of seeing it as some hellish experience I am surviving. That is an intimate detail of my life in the moment as I write this.

The questions of the value of what I do and who I am are sure to come to mind for some as you read I’m a homeless business owner. SO what.

It’s this peace I have found in starting this business centered around what I do that brought peace to my soul and ended the conflicts in my life over the question of what to do with what I am able to do. I like to provide life experience on the topics I talk about.

To be intimate one must make oneself vulnerable to another or in this case the entire audience. For me it’s not that difficult to do because so many other people share so much with me about their lives and where they are in the moment I call the never ending now.

We ask questions about what people post on social media.

Why would you want the whole world to know that?

Why would reveal that about yourself?

What is wrong with you to tell the whole world that?

We condemn those with the courage to bare their souls to the people they call friends, connections, whatever the term is for the social media outlet of our choice. We condemn people for trying to live the labels we give them in our life.

I had a model who will remain nameless email me on Facebook one day after I had dropped her off my friends list. She was upset and made quite the grand showing of herself in what she had to say. When I tried to have a friendly conversation with her and get to know her as a person, it confused her.

She kept asking me what I wanted from her. I kept trying to find different ways of what it meant to me to be my friend.

I tell you about my life and you tell me about yours. I ask you how life is going because we are friends and that’s how I treat my friends, even if it is on Facebook.

We set different boundaries for intimacy based on venue. Do you tell your coworkers everything you tell your friends?

How about family versus friends?

Intimacy is also about trust. When you trust someone as a human being not a title of any kind, you will tell them exactly what’s going on in your life when asked. You trust they asked out of genuine concern. You trust yourself to open up because you trust yourself to know who to open up to. You feel it. You feel the compassion. You feel the concern. You feel they actually are trying to help and are asking for more details so they can figure out how to best help.

Trust goes both ways. If you don’t trust yourself to be able to feel who is trustworthy and who isn’t, you will always have difficulty finding anyone to be intimate with on any level.

titleWhat is the Essence of the condition of being Human?
body

To answer this one question we must also answer the question of what was the essence that preceded the existence of our current Universe.

For lack of a better word, God is that essence that preceded the existence we know now. The essence that was God made itself into matter with all the encoding for what we know as existence. This is the only explanation that makes sense and would also mean that God is in everything.

The reason mathematically we have such a difficult time proving anything is due to organized chaos. Not total chaos, however a structure that allows for our own free will in creating the shared reality we call life.

In order for there to be any order within the chaos there must be set parameters that keep existence from unmaking itself. This cannot have simply happened on accident. It is irrefutable evidence that God is the universe and we are part of that God that uses us to figure out what it made and what to do about it.

Outside of these bodies we are nothing more than emotional energy with self-awareness.

The Essence of the condition of being Human is forgetting all that to explore what God created in a way that can only be done by doing what we do here.

Or to say forget about going on a quest to be more spiritual and realize you are a spirit who came here to learn how to be human. A journey that incorporates a system that is much simpler than we would like to believe because it reveals how much power we have over our lives.

I have always been a big fan of using elementary deductive reasoning. Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left no matter how improbable must be true.

It doesn’t matter if a machine or mathematical equation can substantiate it. We have the ability to reason for a reason.

Philosophy and physics are one in the same.

We are made of emotional energy and give ourselves a total wipe and allow the emotional imprints of the totality of our parents emotional selves at the time of conception begin the emotional imprint for who will be.

Gravity connects all things.

At the center of the Universe is a super massive singularity or black hole. It works on a vortex.

At the center of our galaxy is a massive singularity that works on a vortex.

At the center of the smallest subatomic particle is a gyre or a subatomic black hole that works on a vortex.

Forget size and realize it does not matter and only has value due to the limited senses we have in this form called human.

Within the center of the gyre is a consciousness that understands what particle it is creating and communicates with the other gyres to align to create what we call matter. A projection of energy given form based on set parameters yet with an element of chaos.

That element of chaos is what allows for diversity in all things. Think of it as an evolving algorithm with set tolerances and every variable is variable and in a constant state of change.

Our emotional imprint meets with matter and DNA programming begins. The cipher lock that will unlock our full potential begins to form in the DNA strands themselves. As an energetic lock there is no physical science that can match simply becoming the necessary behavioral version of you that unlocks the full potential and the lock begins being built by who your parents were.

This is the short version of what the essence of the condition of being human is.

While there are others who will go on and one about aspects of self or shadow selves or any number of things that in order for them to hold true deems you must follow their system must be false due to the existence of organized chaos to keep all from becoming the same.

Or to say the only way to truly do it is to let you guide you through you and every journey while having some experiences that are similar is different and no two journeys should ever be the same or organized chaos and free will do not exist. To imply that anyone of us is capable of providing “Thee” path is an extreme form of narcissism bordering on the level of a God Complex.

We all see the same truths in life yet we all see and experience them differently based on our choices in who make ourselves to become through the way we speak. Our words carry emotion behind them and that emotion will bounce back at some point.

Altering ones behavior really is as simple as improving yourself talk and being aware of every word you say and the power it has to come back and slap you upside the head.

Our essence is always creating our existence and that is the essence of the condition of being human.
