| body | Hi @mateuspujol, possibly you won't read this as I have seen that you are inactive for some months now... I am building my own Computer Science Degree, using online material, free and low cost. I think that doing so I will be able to learn the same topics as in an undergraduate curriculum in most universities. However I think that one thing that is yet missing from this study model is that it's not possible to have nearly as much interaction and networking as in college. Do you have any ideas as how to mitigate this problem? Where should I go to meet people that can help me? Cheers! @puzzledbytheweb |

| title | Pascal's Bet: The Logical Argument to Believe in God? |
| body | A men as many of us, one day came to believe in God for a logical reason! Can you believe? The concept that we are going to unravel in this article serves a purpose: demystify things that we blindly believe. In this case: overturn the myth that there are no logical reasons to believe in God. ## Faith in the Father Blaise Pascal as a french philosopher, theologian, inventor, physicist and mathematician, born in 1623. Lost his mother at the age of 3 and ended up being exclusively educated by his father, a mathematics teacher name Étienne Pascal. Such an event naturally influenced the little Pascal as soon as he took up the same areas of his father's knowledge, resulting in a dedication of much of his life to mathematical and physical concepts. It was only when Pascal's father died in 1951 that he came to have a closer relationship with religion and thereafter began to formulate philosophical-theological theories. It turns out, however, that Pascal's logic/rational vein was already very strong at this point in his life, causing him to be reluctant to accept God's existence for lack of material proof and logical reasons to convince him. It was then that Pascal, in one of those moments of genius, ended up formulating what became know as **Pascal's Bet:** the concept that we are going to focus on today.

Briefly, he evaluated the gains and losses that would come from belief/disbelief in the Catholic God. In a reasoning very similar to what he used to formulate the principles of what would become the *game theory*, he explained by text in section 233 of his posthumous book Pensées, which can be summarized:

Accordingly, therefore, to believe in God could lead to only two results: infinite gain, eternal life after death, heaven, all that we know; or a finite loss, the effort that religions demands during its life. Likewise, not believing in God would also lead to only two possible outcomes: infinite loss, punishment, hell, that whole story; or a finite gain, the pleasure you may have in life before death when you need not give up anything. Thus, Pascal justified that, regardless of the existence or not of God, rational beings should believe in its existence because it is the one that offer, literally, the best cost-benefit, thus explaining for logical reasons the principle of faith. But of course this has raised a lot of controversy (and continues to rise!). ## Now It Goes Trying to please Greeks and Trojans (or should I say heretics and romans?), what Pascal was able to do was actually conque the antipathy of both sides. Believers were annoyed by Pascal's attempt to rationalize faith, and especially his belief that "acting as if he believed in God" could eventually "heal men of unbelief." In some lines of the same book, Pascal argues that by attending mass, reading the Bible and adopting other religious habits, men would end up believing in God and dicovering their own faith. He even suggest that he himself has fone through this process. The Catholic Church, of course, disliked this idead of acting as if it believed, believing that it had already given enough reason for all men to believe in God. Pascal, however, had other plans and wanted to make the institution more affable so that other 'good men' would be interested in helping him in this self-imposed mission of proving through the reason that God exists. > Men despise religion; they hate it, and fear it to be true. To remedy this, we must begin by showing that religion is not contrary to reason; which is venerable, to inspire respect for it; then we msut make it kind, to make good men expect it to be true, and finally we can prove it to be true. Meanwhile, the unbelievers mocked at Pascal's innnocent attempt to support the Catholic Church. Many devoted themselves to refuting his logical arguments. They presented alleged logical flaws in Pascal's reasoning as: * **Appeal to Fear Argument:** a famous fallacy in which the person tries to prove the validity of an argument using fear; in the vast majority of the time, using threats such as: "Vote for my candidate, because the opposing candidate will bring the dictatorship back", "Respect your opinion, but you will suffer in life thinking this way" and even "It's better you have our insurance plan. What if some accident happens to you...". This, however, does not happen in the case of Pascal because there is no type of threat. * **Cost Argument:** this reasoning relativizes the size of the finite loss Pascal suggests as the burden of belief in a God who may not exist. According to this argument, the cost of the habits that faith imposes are not so insignificant. This argument, however, is refuted by Pascal's own postulate, which is to assume that in the case of the existence of the Catholic God and the infinite gains in 'eternal life' would be incomparable with any possible gain within the finitude of earthly life. * **Argument of Dishonest Belief:** this argument already holds that an omniscient God could not be deceived by those who only "act as if they believed" because it is a rational hypothesis of better value for money. Pascal, however, through his own belief that habit reveals faith, included in his postulate that this resource would be only the way for rational men to discover the faith that is already intrinsic to them. Likewise, there are arguments within the Christian faith that just as God is omniscient he is also benevolent and values the "way" and "sacrifice" that his followers make in life in an attempt to discover their faith. * **Argument of the various Gods:** finally, a last argument widely used to refute Pascal's Bet is that of the multiple gods. Advocates argue that it points to a false dichotomy since in other religions like Judaism and Islam, belief in the "wrong God" is punished as or more severely than non-belief in God. Thus, there is the possibility that Pascal's table may be changed to something similar to infinite loss in the case of belief in the Catholic God that does not exist, changing the logical reason on which it is better to choose. What's up? Did you put faith or whatever God wants? **Note: This article has no doctrinal intent** |

| title | We Need To Talk About Google |
| body |

The episode involving former Google employee James Damore and the Silicon Valley giant, raises some of the most important issues of this century. And you really should pay attention. Alphabet, Google's parent holding company, is not just any business. Owner of the most valuable brand in the world next to Apple, the company founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998 is practically monopolistic in the internet search market with almost 80% participation. Much of the group's billion-dollar revenue comes from digital advertising, a duopoly split with Facebook. Together, Google and Facebook own 50% of the market according to eMarketer consultancy. Alphabet's best-known products and services such as Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, Gmail, among others, have surpassed the mark of one billion users. Devices that use the Android operating system, according to Google, already surpass two billion active users. The holding company posted revenues of $ 26 billion in the last quarter, up 28% from the same period last year. Advertising revenue alone rose 18 percent compared to the second quarter of 2016. The European Commission recently convicted Google in an antitrust suit, giving a record fine of $ 9 billion. The conviction was celebrated by several shareholders for "low value." The numbers impress but do not tell the whole story. Google is not only a business giant, it is also the largest symbol of the internet generation, provider of some of the most popular and essential services of information society, sponsor and enthusiast of a stripped-down lifestyle with colorful and "fun" offices, Full of cool nerds in a young, friendly environment as shown in the comedy "The Trainees" of 2013. Google has adopted the motto "Do not Be Bad" as a synthesis of their business practices, Theme that is confused with the company even after "retired." A positive image of Google is crucial so that its unparalleled power does not generate nightmares and chills in public opinion. If a single company concentrates almost all of the digital information that exists, it knows virtually everything about the world that is part of the consumer market on the planet, you have to believe that the company is as impersonal and rational in its decisions as governments and public companies should be. A company with access to an unimaginable amount of information about what almost every inhabitant of the planet is talking to via email, how he uses his cell phone, wherever he walks or what he searches on the internet, has to rely on the population's confidence that he makes decisions with criteria and always in the name of the best provision of service to the consumer. Google must necessarily be "not bad" in order to collect, store, process, sort, classify and use the universe of data it has on its servers and in the "cloud". In recent days, the world has come to realize, more recently than ever, that the company of young geniuses who wear shabby, casual clothes, colorful walls and rooms filled with cushions and video games, almost indispensable "free" services which serve as the infrastructure for the digital life of all of us, is anything but a harmless, open and democratic corporation with purely technical motivations and "diversity" as one of its most fundamental values. The Silicon Valley titans, who focus on the part that really interests the flow of information and technological innovation in the modern world, have been showing signs since the 1980s that they dated politics and embraced ideologies far more to the left than the average of Population. In the last election, 90 percent of campaign donations originating in the Valley went to the Democratic Party, a high rate even by California standards. In 2012, Obama had no less than 84% of Silicon Valley's votes. Among Google employees, 97% of the donations went to the Democrat. Of Apple employees, 91% of the proceeds were donated to Donald Trump's predecessor. By 2016, 99% of all money raised among employees of the region's technology companies went to Hillary Clinton. The Democratic Party, which represents the American left, reigns alone among the nerds who send on the internet. The most emblematic exception is Peter Thiel, the mythical billionaire founder of PayPal and one of the investors from Facebook. Eric Schimdt, Google CEO between 2001 and 2011, current chairman of Alphabet and owner of a fortune valued at $ 11 billion, is one of the most active members and donors of the Democratic Party. He has served as an aide to Barack Obama in both presidential campaigns, served on his government's board on technology issues and is considered a major influencer of the party on renewable energy issues. Silicon Valley speaks of "diversity" but is the paradise of single thinking when the theme is political. And the dire consequences of the hegemonic and radical ideological option of the global internet center and specifically Google start to give the first signs. And they are not at all positive. Google is the preferred target of far-left activists because of the composition of its staff. According to the company itself, 80% of its employees in the technology area are men. In leadership positions, 75%. They are common data in technology corporations, but as Google is particularly permeable to left-wing political pressures and tends to cheerfully accept the ideological patrol, has set up a series of domestic and publicity actions to show investors and the world how concerned it is with the Even though concerns are not yet significantly reflected in numbers. In addition to male dominance among googlers, there is also a notable presence of 40% of Asians among their technology cadres versus 3% Hispanic and 1% black, which also does not match the average American population that is composed of 5 % Asian, 16% Hispanic, and 13% Black. For those who do not politicize private business decisions, it's okay for a company to choose who they want to hire or fire, but that's not how things work, especially in the increasingly problematic environment of Silicon Valley. Asians often represent such a nuisance to the racialist leftist theses that are often ignored. If the cause of the "lack of diversity" in a corporation such as Google is from Western white Christian patriarchal heteronormative society, or any other kitschy cliché of the type, how to explain that 2 out of 5 employees in the technology area of the company come from Asia, a proportion ten times greater than the country's total average? One of Google's most prominent figures: a member of a group of only 1 percent of its top performers, dared to try to open an honest conversation about "diversity" after attending a closed company event for employees. He has a solid academic background, a childhood chess champion and a master's degree in systemic biology from Harvard. The thanks received for the contribution was a dismissal with the right to public attacks of several executives of the group, which should yield in the future a good indemnification for him. James Damore (pictured above) circulated a 10-page memo quoting research proving what anyone with a modicum of common sense knows: there are biological differences between men and women and these differences may explain, in part, why "Low" representation of women in technology positions. Damore made clear in her text that she is a diversity enthusiast and her intent with the paper was to seek more efficient and creative ways of engaging women in the area and not "perpetuate stereotypes," as she has been sadly said on the subject. The young researcher did not make an ideological pamphlet but an academic paper that was to be taken seriously in an environment where diversity of thought was really a value and there was a disinterested, impersonal, depoliticized and honest search for truth. Canadian psychoanalyst Jordan Peterson, 55, who gained worldwide fame and won a legion of fans as he faced the ideological patrol of gender in his country recently, reviewed the document and attested its scientific quality. By dismissing in a summarized and noisy manner one of his best employees, Google acted in a particularly authoritative and reprehensible way. The services provided by Google are so important to the flow of information on the internet that there is already a movement to classify the company and its competitors as "public utility", as are classified as light, water, sewage, passenger transport, financial services, health plans, among others. The change entails the creation of specific and much more rigid regulatory legislation, with the participation of specific regulatory agencies. No matter how antiliberal a new regulatory framework might appear for companies like Google or Facebook, it is undeniable that the abrupt disruption of service delivery or a radical ideology of their business decisions could have profound impacts on citizens' lives, as would happen With a politicized administration of companies of essential services and considered as of public utility. No one will even acknowledge the possibility that Google will spoof their customers' Gmail accounts for political reasons, but the financial asphyxiation that YouTube has been promoting on conservative video channels does not do much to eliminate suspicion. The CEO of YouTube himself made harsh public statements against James Damore and his memo, giving a radically ideological interpretation of its content. Google is not alone on this troubling path. Facebook is a constant target of denouncing its analyzes with left ideological bias on the content of posts and possible punishments to users and pages. Mark Zuckerberg's network, a billionaire with political aspirations and likely to run for president in the future, is also accused of classifying "fake news" news stories using political-ideological criteria. Twitter, whose leftist bias is public and notorious, went so far as to censor a recent tweet by President Eric Trump's son, celebrating job creation numbers in the US economy. The tweet was deleted by the system because it would have "sensitive content". Sensitive to the American left, of course. There needs to be an urgent, mature and balanced discussion on how to deal with the growing politicization of leading technology companies and who have control of much of the information circulating around the world. The left will call for nationalization or "social control," a euphemism for fascist intervention. More ideological liberals will say that "the market regulates" and will ask for fewer rules as a solution. I am liberal in the economy and have a natural aversion to any kind of autocratic state regulation, but there are respectable arguments from those who ask for at least the recognition of these services as "public utility", which opens the possibility of being subject to rules as is already the case With companies of sectors also considered essential. I will always prefer free competition and less regulation to attract new competitors to the market and challenge the leadership of companies that are doing a disservice to the consumer or society. Regardless of its position on how to keep the information society hostage from half a dozen increasingly ideological corporations, it is no longer possible to ignore the problem and postpone debate. |

Google must necessarily be \"not bad\" in order to collect, store, process, sort, classify and use the universe of data it has on its servers and in the \"cloud\".\n\n\n\nIn recent days, the world has come to realize, more recently than ever, that the company of young geniuses who wear shabby, casual clothes, colorful walls and rooms filled with cushions and video games, almost indispensable \"free\" services which serve as the infrastructure for the digital life of all of us, is anything but a harmless, open and democratic corporation with purely technical motivations and \"diversity\" as one of its most fundamental values.\n\nThe Silicon Valley titans, who focus on the part that really interests the flow of information and technological innovation in the modern world, have been showing signs since the 1980s that they dated politics and embraced ideologies far more to the left than the average of Population. In the last election, 90 percent of campaign donations originating in the Valley went to the Democratic Party, a high rate even by California standards.\n\nIn 2012, Obama had no less than 84% of Silicon Valley's votes. The most emblematic exception is Peter Thiel, the mythical billionaire founder of PayPal and one of the investors from Facebook.\n\nEric Schimdt, Google CEO between 2001 and 2011, current chairman of Alphabet and owner of a fortune valued at $ 11 billion, is one of the most active members and donors of the Democratic Party. He has served as an aide to Barack Obama in both presidential campaigns, served on his government's board on technology issues and is considered a major influencer of the party on renewable energy issues.\n\n\n\nSilicon Valley speaks of \"diversity\" but is the paradise of single thinking when the theme is political. And the dire consequences of the hegemonic and radical ideological option of the global internet center and specifically Google start to give the first signs. And they are not at all positive.\n\n\nGoogle is the preferred target of far-left activists because of the composition of its staff. According to the company itself, 80% of its employees in the technology area are men. In leadership positions, 75%. They are common data in technology corporations, but as Google is particularly permeable to left-wing political pressures and tends to cheerfully accept the ideological patrol, has set up a series of domestic and publicity actions to show investors and the world how concerned it is with the Even though concerns are not yet significantly reflected in numbers.\n\nIn addition to male dominance among googlers, there is also a notable presence of 40% of Asians among their technology cadres versus 3% Hispanic and 1% black, which also does not match the average American population that is composed of 5 % Asian, 16% Hispanic, and 13% Black. For those who do not politicize private business decisions, it's okay for a company to choose who they want to hire or fire, but that's not how things work, especially in the increasingly problematic environment of Silicon Valley.\n\nAsians often represent such a nuisance to the racialist leftist theses that are often ignored. If the cause of the \"lack of diversity\" in a corporation such as Google is from Western white Christian patriarchal heteronormative society, or any other kitschy cliché of the type, how to explain that 2 out of 5 employees in the technology area of the company come from Asia, a proportion ten times greater than the country's total average?\n\n\n\nOne of Google's most prominent figures: a member of a group of only 1 percent of its top performers, dared to try to open an honest conversation about \"diversity\" after attending a closed company event for employees. He has a solid academic background, a childhood chess champion and a master's degree in systemic biology from Harvard. The thanks received for the contribution was a dismissal with the right to public attacks of several executives of the group, which should yield in the future a good indemnification for him.\n\nJames Damore (pictured above) circulated a 10-page memo quoting research proving what anyone with a modicum of common sense knows: there are biological differences between men and women and these differences may explain, in part, why \"Low\" representation of women in technology positions. Damore made clear in her text that she is a diversity enthusiast and her intent with the paper was to seek more efficient and creative ways of engaging women in the area and not \"perpetuate stereotypes,\" as she has been sadly said on the subject.\n\nThe young researcher did not make an ideological pamphlet but an academic paper that was to be taken seriously in an environment where diversity of thought was really a value and there was a disinterested, impersonal, depoliticized and honest search for truth. Canadian psychoanalyst Jordan Peterson, 55, who gained worldwide fame and won a legion of fans as he faced the ideological patrol of gender in his country recently, reviewed the document and attested its scientific quality.\n\nBy dismissing in a summarized and noisy manner one of his best employees, Google acted in a particularly authoritative and reprehensible way.\n\nThe services provided by Google are so important to the flow of information on the internet that there is already a movement to classify the company and its competitors as \"public utility\", as are classified as light, water, sewage, passenger transport, financial services, health plans, among others. The change entails the creation of specific and much more rigid regulatory legislation, with the participation of specific regulatory agencies.\n\n\nNo matter how antiliberal a new regulatory framework might appear for companies like Google or Facebook, it is undeniable that the abrupt disruption of service delivery or a radical ideology of their business decisions could have profound impacts on citizens' lives, as would happen With a politicized administration of companies of essential services and considered as of public utility.\n\nNo one will even acknowledge the possibility that Google will spoof their customers' Gmail accounts for political reasons, but the financial asphyxiation that YouTube has been promoting on conservative video channels does not do much to eliminate suspicion. The CEO of YouTube himself made harsh public statements against James Damore and his memo, giving a radically ideological interpretation of its content.\n\nGoogle is not alone on this troubling path. Facebook is a constant target of denouncing its analyzes with left ideological bias on the content of posts and possible punishments to users and pages. Mark Zuckerberg's network, a billionaire with political aspirations and likely to run for president in the future, is also accused of classifying \"fake news\" news stories using political-ideological criteria.\n\nTwitter, whose leftist bias is public and notorious, went so far as to censor a recent tweet by President Eric Trump's son, celebrating job creation numbers in the US economy. The tweet was deleted by the system because it would have \"sensitive content\". Sensitive to the American left, of course.\n\n\nThere needs to be an urgent, mature and balanced discussion on how to deal with the growing politicization of leading technology companies and who have control of much of the information circulating around the world. The left will call for nationalization or \"social control,\" a euphemism for fascist intervention. More ideological liberals will say that \"the market regulates\" and will ask for fewer rules as a solution.\n\n\nI am liberal in the economy and have a natural aversion to any kind of autocratic state regulation, but there are respectable arguments from those who ask for at least the recognition of these services as \"public utility\", which opens the possibility of being subject to rules as is already the case With companies of sectors also considered essential.\n\n\nI will always prefer free competition and less regulation to attract new competitors to the market and challenge the leadership of companies that are doing a disservice to the consumer or society. Regardless of its position on how to keep the information society hostage from half a dozen increasingly ideological corporations, it is no longer possible to ignore the problem and postpone debate.",

| body | # Do You Know GO? Go - also know as Weiqi or Baduk - is quite simply, the most difficult game in the world under certain light. You, my chess friend, must now be gathering the stones to shoot me, but calm down there. It is true that at a basic stage chess is a more complex game at the strategy level. It is not enough to move the pieces, it is necessary to have a plan of action and reaction. Meanwhile, in Go it is possible to just go putting the stones in a random way and get a certain success. But when we put the best of the world to play, Go becomes an extremely complex game, precisely because it has tens of millions of possibilities for more moves than chess. In numbers, in chess there are 10^120 possibilities of moves, while in Go there are 10^768. Therefore, it is often said that a game from Go was never repeated in history. That's because the game has existed for more than 2,500 years. Basically, Go consists of a board (goban) of 19 by 19 crossed lines and 'infinite' black and white pieces identical to each other. The object of the game is to lay the stones on the board alternately until you gain as much territory as possible and end up with your opponent's play possibilities. Go is therefore a game where you have to dominate territories surrounding your opponent. # Do You Know Lee Sedol?

Lee Sedol is a 33-years-old south korean professional Go player since its 12yo amd world champion 18 times since. He is considered the best Go player in the world and was responsible for an unpleasant mission: to face a Google supercomputer. Accustomed to dominating his opponents, Sedol was invited to a duel against AlphaGo: software developed by Google's DeepMind artificial intelligence program. Just to stimulate the mood, the winner would win a prize of $ 1 million. The clash was fought in a better five matches, in the way of what is commonly done in the modality and soon gained a lot of visibility (with real-time transmission and wide coverage in the country). At the same time, it became impossible not to make comparisons with the historical chess match between IBM's Deep Blue software and Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion, on May 11, 1997, when the computer overcame the Man in the sport for the first time - that is to say that Kasparov won the computer a year earlier. ## How Was The Confrontation? In spite of the wide repercussion, the confrontation did not happen without a history and Lee Sedol was not the first nor the only player of Go surpassed by the software. Just before facing the world champion, the Google machine defeated with authority the three-time European champion of Go, Fan Hui, by five to zero. With this beautiful retrospective, the developers were excited and summoned the confrontation against the best in the world and did not regret. In a backlog of the tech world, Google outperformed other companies - such as Facebook itself - who also tried the feat (maybe, just maybe, that's something important to them). According to some players and experts who followed the matches, the first two clashes were the most difficult for the human. With a game strategy different from what he was accustomed to, Sedol sought to find loopholes in the computer instead of 'proposing the game'. Thus, AlphaGo soon opened 2 to 0 in the dispute. When the confrontation arrived in the third match, the South Korean decided to adopt a different strategy and this, in turn, gave much more work to the computer. Sedol used some innovative tactics and created a kind of all-or-nothing, something that had not yet done in the duel. But the computer was prepared for that too and defeated the player by resignation after 176 moves. At that moment, the human had already exceeded the maximum limit of two hours and invaded the overtime, while the computer still had 8 and a half minutes remaining on the clock. This also gave him speed in decision making. Despite their 3-0 win, it is customary for the clashes to continue until the last match and so we had the fourth and fifth duels. And it was just in the next match that came the surprise. After defeating the European champion by 5 to 0 and opening 3 to 0 against the world champion, finally the machine lost a match for a human. In a duel that lasted more than five hours, Sedol punished the computer to the end. After a flawed move made in play 79, the software only recognized the error in play 87, and by then the South Korean had already gained enough advantage to defend until the end. The unprecedented victory encouraged those who accompanied the duel. At that moment, it was believed to have set a precedent. Commentators pointed out that Sedol had finally understood how the computer behaved and had managed to use it against it. Soon a great expectation was created for the fifth game. A new victory could mean that the human had actually discovered a flaw in software programming. And in fact the fifth and final duel was the most balanced. Both competitors raided the overtime and the clash was only ended after 280 moves. Once again, those who accompanied the match could not point to an advantage for either side. The victory seemed to pass from hand to hand with every move. But it was then that something difficult to understand happened. In play 48, the computer made a movement very similar to the error of the fourth match, but this time it was an unprecedented move. Without understanding this logic, all the experts pointed this out as more of a computer error, which confirmed the thesis that Sedol had discovered a breach in programming. However, what was seen was a sequence of movements right in the middle of the board that made the game long and complicated, but after almost five hours pointed to the resignation defeat of Sedol giving final numbers to the score: 4 to 1 . With the victory of AlphaGo, Google has decided to donate $ 1 million to Unicef, institutions that promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and Go game organizations. A prize of $ 150,000 for the stake earned an additional $ 20,000 for each win (only one). # What Does All This Tell Us About Artificial Intelligence? Researchers have been trying to teach Go to computers for over twenty years. One more investment of this size that brings together some of the world's most talented and intelligent people is not just for Go winners. Google has much more ambitious plans. Before going into the merits of the creation and the goals of the software it is worth remembering that although Go is an extremely complicated game of teaching yourself to a computer - for reasons you may already imagine, but that we will see more in depth below - there are still games In which computers are not able to outperform humans, such as Poker. That's because, despite the many possibilities of modalities like Chess and Go, they are what we call zero-sum games with total information. That is, the gain of one player necessarily means the loss of another and all the information that needs to be processed (however many) are on the board. But this does not detract from the achievement achieved by software, especially when we consider that experts estimated that such an achievement would only be achieved by Artificial Intelligence in 2025 (!). And the predictions were stuck a lot because they were based on a possible successful method similar to that used by IBM in 1997. When Deep Blue defeated Kasparov even before the turn of the millennium, the model used was that of "brute force." The computer in question was capable of calculating 200 million moves per second and was powered by a database with hundreds of thousands of possibilities from the most classic to the great creations of the world's leading chess masters at the time. Making a simple comparison to the amount of possibilities of more plays that the Go presents, nobody could imagine that the success would come so soon. But it happened because instead of trying to teach the computer all (or at least almost all) the possibilities that exist in the game, the developers made it possible for the computer itself to learn alone. Therefore, they abandoned the "brute force" model and set out for the "neural network" model. Google DeepMind scientists have developed two networks. The first, called a "value network," evaluates the positions on the board. The second, "policy network", decides the movements. Both networks were fueled by an unprecedented combination of deep learning where millions of human expert moves were introduced into the database. After that first step, the neural networks were put into practice and the computer made thousands of matches against itself so that it could apply the data that it received and - here goes the great secret - to learn alone. The method was also directed to the computer thinking of strategies that did not aim for an immediate gain, but the best long-term result. That is to say, in receiving a certain imput, the computer does not think of a way to neutralize it immediately, but in a sequence of moves capable of bringing it closer to victory. Thus, the efficiency of each single move may not be as good, but the end result is. That way, not having to calculate every possible move with each move, AlphaGo does a much smaller and faster processing than Deep Blue. The new software analyzes only the most favorable combinations in the medium term, and not all, as was done before. Therefore, the computer developed by Google thinks less as a machine and more like a human who really looks at the real possibilities, not hypothetical. And it is this fact added to the fact that the computer can make deductions about new data that signals a bright future for Artificial Intelligence. Google itself acknowledges that a victory in a Go match, even if it is against the world champion, is not as relevant. Even more so compared to the chess duel of 20 years ago. However, what animates the developers is precisely the possibility of applying this model in other areas. The company issued a statement on its official blog saying its engineers are encouraged to apply these methods to "complex and urgent problems in society, such as the study of climate and the analysis of diseases." Now we have to wait for the future before us and see what will happen. |

| title | Stop Blaming Yourself, Use Laziness In Your Favor |
| body | **First of all, what you feel may not be laziness, but pure and simple tiredness.** There are volumes and more tomes full of theses and pseudo-solutions for the subject of laziness. Just look quickly at your timeline in Facebook and you wull see how this theme permeates daily life. We are suffering from lack of energy, encouragement and motivation. Go, type there, quickly, the word motivation in Google and you will see. First of all, I think we should open a parenthesis. It is very acceptable, normal and even desirable to be inmotivated to work on your side project after having spent eight hours working and two more hours in transit. It is more normal to still have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning after going through it six times a week for months. If you can not get the books to study at night, it may not be a matter of you being a lazy and despicable jelly. If you can not get up early to go to the gym, you may not be the problem. It may be that you are simply overwhelmed, tired and need some time. This is something I want to make clear why when I read the articles that pop out about it, the impression it gives me is that I am a useless jelly and everyone is producing att full steam all the time. Look at this one for example: https://medium.com/the-mission/professionals-vs-amateurs-385f16e87e79 When I see this speech, it really seems like I am of no use and I am living completely below my "true potential". And, yes, it may even be that some people can. But it's not my case, it may not be yours too. So I say, most likely the problem is not in you, but in a culture that askas us to produce in a non-human way, sacrificing just what makes us humans: our well-being, leisure, free thinking, good relations. Still, another layer of reasoning can be opened. We have to relate to this world. We need to make money, pay the bills and finally survive. Therefore, it would be very good to be able to extract some energy in the midst of adversity to do what we really want with our lives, wheter to go ahead with a project, attend the gym or make cake to receive visitors. I Want to emphasize that I consider discipline to be essential in any process. But I also understand how it is not enough to want to be disciplined, something pulls us away from what is beneficial to us. You can call it what you want: procrastination, moodiness, lack of motivation, aversion... I know it's hard, but in the end, the thing will always be a sophisticated form of laziness. **And yet we do not need to blame ourselves and consider ourselves miserable beings.** What I've been experiencing is embracing my laziness, taking it into account in my planning, and thereby making it part of my path. So I decided to talk about some practical steps I've been taking about it. _____________________________ ## Make Easy What Is Beneficial I think it's totally crazy, but the truth is that almost everything that is easy, make us sick. Go to the grocery store, pick up any prepared food and you will se how it is packed with substances that do not exactly contribute to good nutrition. The apps we use the most are often the ones that steal our attention. They are made not only to be simple and easy to use, but also to be addictive. Not to mention they enjoy calling you all the time through notifications. But the most useful apps do not usually do the same. Good food also does not come in packs just for you to add water and eat. So some efforts needs to be made so that the competition does not become disloyal and the distractions always win. In practice, it takes some effort to make things at least a little easier. What I do: * **1 - I want to play every day** and take creative turns to write and compose music and texts. For this, I organize my room so that my instruments are always on display and, when I feel like it, I can just sit and play with my things. Acessible notebooks, instruments outside the covers, amplifier mounted. All just waiting for me. * **2 - Healthier food:** I do not always get it, but I set aside a day to prepare food or at least a portion of it for the rest of the week. So I can just get the pots in the fridge and bring my kettle to work or warm up in the microwave for dinner. When I do not do that, I spend a lot with food and very badly, since the food they sell in restaurants is usually more for a lasagna than for a salad. * **3 - Physical activity:** I got into the bike habit well. But sometimes I avoided the bike because of the laziness of having to get down with her on the shoulder using the stairs (I live in a house). Today I leave it in the garage, one the same level as the ground floor, when I need to use it, just shoot and I go. Also, I leave the accessories also on display. So when I leave, I remember the bicycle, I get things and I leave. * **4 - Productivity:** The cover of my phone also counts more with the applications that are useful to me and help in what I intend to do than the ones that I use more. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, none of it stays there. Instead, I leave the Todoist, the 7 weeks, Evernote, Agenda, Pocket Guide, Calculator, Alarm/Clock and ClearFocus. _____________________________ ## Difficulty What Is Harmful Here, it is important to also make the other side of the coint explicit. It is necessary to make things detrimental a little more difficult. This is why, for example, it is preferable not to have Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat shortcuts installed on your phone cover. Likewise, instant food, soft drinks, sweets are not very insteresting to have in the refrigerator if you want to eat better. The reason is simple: our conditioning is to seek pleasure and give preference to it. The faster and easier it is to get that pleasure, the better. It does not matter if in the long run this will screw us or if we could have gotten a better result. It is no wonder that procrastination is something that drags us so easily. Thus, it is good to create as favorable conditions to do what is most beneficial and, at the same time, to make difficult what is not. _____________________ # PLEASE, Have Some Free Time, Stop Working, Relax I've been the type that works all the time. My excuse for not attending shows, events, meetings, etc, was the work. I always had something so important that prevented me from being someone more sociable and happy. In addition, I forced the situation by procrastinating too much or not imposing limits. Used even to have a flexibly unfavorable routine. My job was flexible always for more, never for less. I go back and a half and I fail with this and I end up passing the hours, working too much, but not from far as before. And that made my life a lot better. I have again my weekends, in which I do not open emails and do not worry about work. I use this time to relax, eat, sleep, watch movies, pedal, meet friends or whatever I feel like. I also avoid working on holidays. And I say: it is essential that it be so. Without it, you can not even work hard, let alone to be full of energy. Without this time to live, you will see a bag of potatoes that does things, crawling back and forth. Therefore, work, produce, have parallel projects, be creative, think a thousand things wonderful, but do not forget that life is there, it ends quickly and goes beyond killing the most tasks in a day. Relax, breathe and remember to enjoy the scenery from time to time. |

I also avoid working on holidays.\n\nAnd I say: it is essential that it be so.\n\nWithout it, you can not even work hard, let alone to be full of energy.\n\nWithout this time to live, you will see a bag of potatoes that does things, crawling back and forth.\n\nTherefore, work, produce, have parallel projects, be creative, think a thousand things wonderful, but do not forget that life is there, it ends quickly and goes beyond killing the most tasks in a day.\n\nRelax, breathe and remember to enjoy the scenery from time to time.",
