      "body": "In august 2017, I went to the gym to do my regular leg day exercises, I warmed up and then started my squats routine. In the middle of my second set i felt something was wrong. Very wrong. As i was trying to bring my body to a standing position, i felt a strong  sharp pain in my lower back. It felt like someone kicked me really hard. Somehow i managed to place the barbel on the squat rack safely.\n\nI finished my workout, got home and everything was fine. Until the next morning. When i tried to get out of my bed, i felt my lower back muscles going out of control and i couldn't  walk straight for more then a couple of seconds without feeling that sharp pain that threw me back to the floor. After a couple of Tui na treatments i felt better, but the pain was still in the background.\n\nI couldn't sit at my desk for long periods like i used to before. Now with this new annoying pain, i could sit for maybe an hour straight until i felt the pain taking over. So i had to get out from my chair, do some stretches and get back to work after 10 minutes.\n\nAfter searching online for solutions to my pain, i came across many articles about standing desks and the amazing benefits you can experience from standing more often. So i decided to get one. At the beginning, standing and working was weird, because i was used to sit when i work, so my body needed to adjust. After a couple of days i got used to standing for longer periods and felt my back and my abdomen slowly but surely getting stronger.\n\n<img src=\"https://media.giphy.com/media/Qh6NZWsFx1G1O/giphy.gif\">\n\nFast forward to today and i don't have any back pain whatsoever. My back and my abdomen are very strong. Of course i did a lot of stretches during that period and my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training also helped to speed up the recovery process.\n\nIf you suffer from a back pain, i highly recommend you do you own research about standing desks, but you can take my word for it. It works!\n\nHere are two important studies about standing while working:\n\n<h4>Standing While Working Improves Cognitive Function</h4>\nA study conducted by the Texas A&M School of Public Health, set to determined the neurocognitive benefits of standing desks and explore any associated changes in frontal brain function. The researchers recruited 34 freshman high school students and tested them at two time points during the school year - In the fall semester and in the spring semester. The researchers evaluated the students executive function and working memory by using a computerized neurocognitive test battery. They also tested the brain activation patterns of the prefrontal cortex. The conclusions was that a continued utilization of a standing desk is linked with significant improvement in executive function and working memory capabilities.\n\n<h4>Sit-Stand Desk Reduce Upper Back and Neck Pain</h4>\nAs awareness continue to grow around the topic of prolonged sitting, more and more people are beginning to understand the health risks involved and abandoning their old regular desks and switching to standing desks. A study conducted during March - May 2011 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, among employees with sedentary jobs, found that using a sit-stand desk can reduce sitting time, improve mood, and reduce upper back pain and neck by 54%!\n\nWhile i think a standing desk is great, you should definitely take a break from time to time to sit. If you find that standing for long periods is too difficult, you can always get a sit-stand desk and alternate every time you feel tired or that you need to get up and shake things up.\n\nDo you have any experience standing while working?       "body": "If you're not a BJJ practitioner you'll probably be a little skeptic about this statement. Maybe you think i'm exaggerating, maybe you think it's just a self defense class and a workout. But you would be wrong to think that.\n\nBJJ is so much more than a self defense method (super effective one), a sport, or a recreational activity . It's a way of life.\n\nWhen you step into a BJJ academy for the first time, you'll quickly realize that your'e at the bottom of the food chain, and it can be very intimidating.  I know because I've been there. Twice. So what happens to complete newbies in Jiu Jitsu? they get destroyed on the mats, and that is completely normal, but, it can be very intimidating and may even cause some people to leave and never come back.\n\nWhen you don't know what you're doing and everyone in your gym are better than you, it sucks. Big time. So, a lot of new students run away because their egos can't handle it. No one likes to fail, and as a newbie in BJJ, you will fail constantly. But, just like everything else in life, if you want to get better at something you have to practice over and over again until you get it right.\n\nAfter you survive the first classes you'll begin to get a sense of what's going around you. You'll know that you know absolutely nothing and you have a very long journey ahead of you, but also, you'll have massive respect for everyone in your gym. Especially in the beginning of your journey you need to learn to how to survive. It's like being thrown to the middle of the ocean, and now you have to be calm and preserve your energy, otherwise, you will drown.\n\nGetting comfortable being uncomfortable is a must in BJJ, and if you'll implement the same philosophy to your personal life, things will change for the better. You will gain a better perspective for life, and you'll face the various challenges of your everyday life with greater success. No more quitting when things gets uncomfortable.\n\nEveryone got problems and challenges they face everyday. When a BJJ class begin, you have no choice but to leave your troubles behind and focus on the moment, you must live in the now! believe me, when someone tries to choke you or to break your arm, the last thing you think about is your problems at work.  Your instincts kick in and you try to survive. Being in the moment is so important, we tent to live in the past or the future, but when you focus on what's right now you feel alive.\n\nThere is something about BJJ that just makes you a calm happy person. Maybe it's because you can't fake your level of expertise, because if you'll try to claim that you are better than what you actually are, well, your lie will soon be discovered and you're screwed. Maybe it's because you know that it takes a lot of years of sacrifice and dedication to become a black belt and you respect that so much.\n\nOr, maybe it's because you have the tools to defend yourself and your family and you're much confident thanks to Jiu Jitsu. It can be all those reasons and more, whatever it is, it's doing great things to your ego and turns you into a peaceful individual.\n\nBJJ can do wonders for you life, and i think everybody should do it.
