      "body": "I started to notice that the more time I spent browsing through my feed on Facebook or scrolling through my friends' Snapchat stories, the sadder and more annoyed I began to feel. Why was everyone else constantly getting to have fun and go on vacations, cruises, and get to smile and be happy all the time but I wasn't? I began to feel like I was constantly missing out on some positive aspect of life.  Where was this world where people were always in a constant state of joy and always getting to be surrounded by people they love,  always going to all of these cool events, and getting to experience so much awesome stuff (concerts, festivals, parties, etc)? When and how do I get to this place? It seemed all my life consisted of was working and being able to support myself and barely having any free time. I had allowed myself to be tricked by this false reality into thinking this way.  I wish I had become aware of this fact so much sooner, as I could have saved myself so much frustration and mental stress. Social Media is not reality. \n\nLets picture a scenario. You've had a really rough week, you've had to work 40+ hours all week, you're car broke down one day and you had to take it to the mechanic and pay $600 for a repair (so you're now stressed about this financial expense), you've had to fight tons traffic and it's just been a really miserable time for you. So that night, you take out your phone and start going through  Instagram posts, and you come across a picture of a friend on a gorgeous beach in Mexico,  maybe he's got his arms around his girlfriend, they're both smiling in perfect harmony,  holding pina coladas, and it just seems as if they don't have a care in the world. FALSE. They do, you're just not seeing it IN THAT MOMENT. Chances are, if you're prone to depression, you're instantly going to feel a little wave of sadness, jealousy, or even resentfulness that they got to enjoy a nice vacation and relax all week, while you had to go through your whole train-wreck of a week. You might think  to yourself\"Must be nice\" upon seeing this image. Here's my  two cents on this subject: Don't fall for that. No matter how happy people may appear when you see them on Social Media, they are not in a constant state of happiness. Now this is not to say, that the joyful  expressions seen on their faces during these captured moments are not genuine, they more than likely are. However, both the situation itself and the emotions felt by these two are temporary, just as they are with you during your more upbeat moments in life. These people suffer from their own issues, their own struggles, and more or less face (or have faced) the same obstacles and challenges that you do in life. What makes you believe that it is not so, is that you're only getting to see are the \"good times.\" That is why as a person who is prone to periods of deep depression, I make it a point to stay off of social medias as much as I can or at least limit my time spent on it. There have been several studies made within the last few years that have even shown a direct connection between people with more stress and depression in their lives, and how much time they spend browsing these sites. Remember, steps have to put into action  in order for these memories to even get made in the first place.An idea has to be brought up,  somebody has to reach out and connect with someone else, etc. Think about the time you could be spending making things happen rather than looking at something that makes you feel as if you're missing out.\n\nThe joy and fun is all around you, go out and experience it first-hand and make your own good times.       "body": "I'm convinced that basically all of our emotional pain resulting from anxiety is caused by our own overthinking. It can be hard enough for most people with over- sensitized nerves to not get caught up worrying about the future, but it's even more difficult catching yourself in the moment before you get caught up in that cycle. There's a guy I follow on youtube, who does Vlogs and podcasts on practicing awareness and acceptance when it comes to anxiety and panic attacks, and he talks a lot about the fight or flight response and how our brains, as weird as it may sound, are not really all that smart. Your brain does not know the difference between an actual physical threat, and just a pop-up thought (like not making it to work on time and getting yelled at), so when you begin to get nervous as a result of these thoughts, it automatically releases more of those hormones that make you feel anxious, in an attempt to save you from whatever threat is(n't) there. So, in my last article I briefly touched on dealing with social anxiety, and I wanted to go a bit more in-depth with that this time around. Now, I have a long running history when it comes to dealing with this form of anxiety. Growing up, my social skills were always a bit behind the rest of my peers, I didn't have the easiest time when it came to making friends throughout middle and high school (flirting and dating was something I could not even fathom at the time), and I had a habit of isolating myself from others whenever the opportunity arose (something I'd eventually come to regret). In spite of my doing this, I HATED being alone. I was at heart, a friendly individual, but I had extreme difficulty understanding social cues and holding conversations, which often times made me come off as a rather awkward guy. It wasn't really until I got my first job as a bagger at Publix, that I was able to adapt better to different people and different surroundings, and interact with others more efficiently. Now, let me tell you guys, as much as I hated working this job, looking back at it now, I'm SO grateful for it, because it forced me to socialize with a variety of people, and served as a stepping stone in my journey to conquering my fear of talking to others.\nObviously every person's situation is going to vary, but what most people who deal with social anxiety are most afraid of and what keeps them from showing themselves for the brilliant individuals that they truly are, is the fear of embarrassment. We are afraid of saying something stupid, and making ourselves look like idiots. The honest truth is that the only legit way to truly purge your fear of embarrassment in social environments is to keep putting yourself in these situations. Don't get me wrong, it is not an easy process. It is a relatively simple and straightforward process, but simple does not always equal easy. You're going to feel awkward and anxious, and perhaps a little unsure of yourself for quite some time, especially if you're just starting out and are inexperienced (as with any skill), but that is perfectly normal and okay!! Overcoming your fears of socializing is not something that happens overnight. It can take weeks, months, perhaps even years for some people. Patience is a must-have, and so is persistence!! \n\nI would definitely advise seeking  out others (whether it be a friend, family member, co-worker, school mate, etc.) whom is a bit more developed with their social skills, and observing the way they interact with other people, including yourself, and making mental notes in your head of actions and cues that they use (body-language, eye-contact, humor, compliments, etc.), that way when your next opportunity arises, you can begin employing these techniques into your daily interactions. More than likely, this will feel a bit forced at first, and you may be tempted to revert back to your previous less efficient methods of interaction, but this is where that combination of persistence and patience will really come into play. Consistency is key!! The more you employ these strategies, the more natural they will feel to you! Once again though, you have to pass through that phase of discomfort, before you'll begin to see the pay-offs and benefits come through.  Believe me guys, the sense of accomplishment you'll feel is so worth it in the end!  Once you've forced yourself into these situations enough times, and passed through through that period of doubt, you will feel fearless and damn near invincible!",

So I thought I'd start a blog on something that so many individuals struggle with each and every day, and that is dealing with anxiety and depression.  I have been fighting my own battle with both of these things since I was a teenager, and while my ow personal experiences are undoubtedly going to differ from that of others, at the end of the day, anxiety  and depression are not as complex as we make them out to be. In a bizarre sort of paradox, our own suffering when dealing with these disorders comes from the fact that as a result of not knowing how to cope with them, we end up overthinking and over-analyzing every little situation or symptom. In an attempt to get to the roots of our problems and figure out how to end our emotional pain, we wind up confusing and tormenting our brains even more. \n\nEvery emotion we feel, each time we come in contact with a certain individual, or are faced with a particular obstacle or dilemma in our lives that make us feel  hopeless, are all a direct result of our thoughts. Thoughts are what make us feel  emotions, and at the end of the day, are what cause every single emotion we experience. As easy as it is to tell somebody else or yourself simply not to worry or think about something that is bothering us, doing so is way easier said than done. A strategy that I have begun to employ over the last 6 months roughly, is to just let go of negative or useless thoughts that  I get.You see, our brains are constantly receiving and sending out information every second of every day, hundreds of thoughts drift in and out of our minds almost 24/7. However, a thought is just a thought. It is completely harmless, until we give it power by fixating on it, and thus allowing that thought to control our emotions.\n\nThe great news is that this process is all a learned behavior, and like any learned behavior, it can be changed by retraining our brains. I'm sure most of us are likely familiar with the fight or flight response, which is essentially a trigger response that is built into our brains, to help us when we are faced with a real danger ( ie: a wild animal or some legitimate threat that could actually cause you physical harm or kill you). Sadly, our brains do not know the difference between a real-life threat and just a mildly uncomfortable situation, such as a job interview.  Let's say that you are a person that deals with anxiety on a social level. Anytime you are faced with a situation where you are required to interact with others, this could be anything from giving a speech or presentation, to approaching somebody you're attracted to, or even just starting up a conversation with a stranger, you feel anxious or tense. You may even try to avoid these situations by isolating yourself from others.  We get caught up in this cycle because we have taught our brains that this emotional reaction is an appropriate response to  that situation. In my experience, the best thing that can be done here is to do nothing. That's right, do absolutely nothing. Do not react to these thoughts, just allow them to drift away. You may find that if you really apply yourself with this technique, after a few seconds or minutes, the thought and the unpleasant  emotion that accompany it will dissipate and be gone. As I stated above, this is something that really requires you to apply yourself, and be prepared to have setbacks and moments of doubt, and know that that is okay. Retraining our brains takes time and is definitely a huge commitment. People who are new to applying this method, are naturally going to experience more moments of frustration, but one again, it is perfectly normal and alright for this to happen. \n\nI will definitely expand on what I've talked about today in one of my upcoming posts, but to wrap things up for now do not pay these negative thoughts any mind, they are not harmful until you make them so by fixating  on them or attempting to fight or run from them.       "body": "Frogs are undoubtedly some of the weirdest and most unusual members of the animal kingdom... which could also describes amphibians as a whole, but they're perhaps the ones we're also most familiar with. As you can very well imagine, the hot moist climate of Florida is literally the perfect atmosphere for these critters. There are over 30 species of frogs native to the state, most of which are native, however a few species have been imported into the country and have since become quite established over the years.\n\n Frogs that have adapted to living up high among the trees, and climb using enlarge suction discs are there toes are called tree frogs, several of which are found throughout the sunshine state. Most of the native species, such as the green tree frog (averaging about 2 inches) tend to stay smaller, however the Cuban treefrog gets quite a bit larger, reaching up 5 inches in length. That unfortunately puts them far above the others on the food chain, especially given that their appetite is equally as big as they are. These frogs are voracious eaters, and will attempt to eat almost any animal smaller than themselves. This includes medium to large insects, small lizards, rodents, and even other frogs. Our native frogs, like the green tree frog and squirrel treefrog, naturally make an easy snack. Studies have also shown that the Cuban treefrog reproduces and lays eggs, at a much faster rate and larger quantity than the other species, making them more effective at propagating their species. \n\nThese frogs can change both the coloration and pattern of their skin depending on their body temperature and other external factors. Skin color is typically a tan  to light brown, although it is not uncommon to find individuals that are of a much darker brown or black, and even some that are a bit more greenish. Colder individuals may even appear an almost pure white, giving them the appearance of an albino, however if you were to put them in direct sun for a few minutes, the frog's skin would quickly darken.
