Just look at the sanctions and military pressure exerted against Venezuela, sending warships close to the Venezuelan coasts, justifying it as an anti-narcotics operation against the (ghostly) \"Los Soles cartel\". 🌞\nAnd who supported the goodness of this operation? But yes, she is, the award-winning Maria Corina Machado! Bush at the White House.\n- She was formally accused in 2014 of preparing a coup and assassination plan against President Nicolás Maduro\n- After the 2024 presidential elections, a criminal investigation has been opened against Machado, for conspiracy, incitement to insurgency and disobedience of laws\n- She has always been a supporter of a neoliberal economic policy, based on a plan of driven privatization, especially in the oil sector and for the benefit of American multinationals\n- Over the years he has often supported the need for strong international pressure on his own country, including sanctions (which have severely affected the civilian population) and a military intervention, as the only way to overthrow the \"narco-terrorist regime\" of Maduro.\nNot exactly what you'd expect from a Nobel Peace Prize!\n\nOf course, the prize in the past was also given to figures like Kissinger and Obama, who weren’t really peace makers in the world!\nLa Machado has always referred to the United States above all, but not only.\nHe also has close relations with Israeli President Netanyahu, to whom in 2018 he sent a letter asking him to exert his influence and pressure against the Maduro government. Es solo que, a primera vista, la paz tiene poco que ver.\nEs más bien una recompensa a la política imperialista e intervencionista de Estados Unidos hacia Latinoamérica, arraigada en la llamada \"Doctrina Monroe\", que Trump ha aplicado con mucha agresividad en los últimos meses. Basta con ver las sanciones y la presión militar ejercida contra Venezuela, con el despliegue de buques de guerra cerca de la costa venezolana, justificándolo como una operación antidrogas contra el (fantasma) \"Cártel de Los Soles\". 🌞\n¿Y quién apoyó la validez de esta operación? ¡Sí, ella, la galardonada María Corina Machado! Es decir, básicamente aplaudió el hundimiento de pequeñas embarcaciones con hombres no identificados a bordo, utilizando misiles en aguas internacionales, ¡sin aportar ninguna prueba de que fueran narcotraficantes!\nPero repasemos las hazañas que le valieron a nuestra heroína el codiciado premio:\n- En 2002, participó en el intento de golpe de Estado contra el gobierno de Chávez, siendo una de las firmantes del Decreto Carmona, un intento de disolver la Asamblea Nacional, suspender la Constitución y destituir a los magistrados del Tribunal Supremo.\n- También en 2002, fue una de las fundadoras de Súmate, una ONG para la promoción de la democracia, financiada por la Fundación Nacional para la Democracia (NED) de Estados Unidos, que también financió a otros grupos y organizaciones de la oposición venezolana.\n- En 2004, Súmate ayudó a organizar un referéndum que pedía el impeachment de Hugo Chávez, que, sin embargo, fracasó estrepitosamente. These algorithms often limit the diffusion and visibility of certain content and profiles through \"shadow banning,\" a subtle form of censorship. Algorithms are \"black boxes\"—they are not open or transparent, so we can only observe their effects, as shown by the BBC research.\nIn other cases, content is completely censored, removed, or even results in the suspension or termination of related profiles, often following a manual review by humans. Apart from overt cases of fake news and hoaxes, censorship mainly affects those who engage in counter-information and that are not aligned with mainstream thinking.\nThe Digital Services Act (DSA)(2), the new European regulation on digital services, aims to combat disinformation. But it is factual that its owner intervenes, even intrusively, on domestic political issues of various countries, openly supporting alt-right and extreme right-wing parties and harshly criticising governments( for example Venezuela, Brazil and, lately, even United Kingdom!!) or even oppositions (for example in Italy) he does not like. This is not certainly a guarantee of impartiality of his platform, to be as free and democratic as he claims.\n-Incidentally, in December 2024 the presidential elections in Romania were cancelled due to an alleged campaign on TikTok orchestrated to influence the vote in favour of the winning candidate.\nIf the February elections in Germany were won by the far-right AFD party, openly supported by Musk, would the elections have been cancelled in the same way? Honestly one has to doubt it-\nAnother aspect that is commonly accepted as completely normal is the fact that social networks are controlled by a few private companies and individuals such as Meta (Zuckerberg), X (Elon Musk), Bytedance-TikTok and Google-YouTube who, in addition to holding control over the data of billions of people, also manage a very significant part of information at a global level, which nowadays mainly (if not exclusively) passeson social media, for the majority of people.\nIf we consider that the large traditional media (TV, newspapers...) are also in the hands of a small circle of private groups, then information is anything but free and this represents a serious obstacle to achieving a truly mature and complete democracy.\nThere are also more democratic and independent alternatives to the dominant social networks, albeit with some limitations in terms of maturity and functionality. The latest in the series was the so-called \"agreement\" between the EU and the US that sets tariffs on European goods and services at 15%, as well as onerous concessions by European countries, such as a commitment to massive investment in the US and to purchase a large share of their energy needs from them, for the next few years. All this with practically nothing in return.\nAn agreement that has been called a surrender, a capitulation, even by most of the mainstream media!\n\n\n![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfCDgUkdgq8vC6jUEGsfhv4LMVsEQqVP4SowWeqUVSC6K/image.png)\n\n\nAll this is in addition to Rearm Europe and the NATO programme to increase military spending to 5% of GDP, other crazy decisions that will have a very negative impact on the public accounts and welfare state of EU countries in the years (and perhaps decades) to come.\nEvidently, the 5% Nato concession in defence spending was not enough for Europe to avoid the tariffs and other impositions it had to endure from Trump. The only country that tried to keep its back straight was the Spanish government of Sanchez, which rightly declared that it could not go beyond the previously established limit of 2% of GDP.\nIt has to be said, in truth, that Sachez's refusal was also dictated by domestic political necessity and, moreover, Spain, compared to other countries such as Italy, is less blackmailable on the issue of duties, since exports to the USA are not so significant.\nWhatever one wants but Spain has demonstrated that one can truly be a sovereign country and do (first) the interests of its citizens and not those of the US and the oligarchies. Unlike other governments of European countries that instead only make propaganda and in fact are absolutely bent to external (mainly American) diktats, like for example the Italian government of PM Giorgia Meloni.\nEuropean rearmament has also been pushed by the propaganda of most of the mainstream media, according to which it is necessary, on the one hand because of the United States' intention to pull out of the war in Ukraine and reduce spending on European defence, and on the other because of the threat Russia would pose to the entire European Union.\nAn hypothetical and improbable threat, used as a bogeyman to condition public opinion, apparently without much success among Europeans, except for the citizens of the Baltic republics, for historical reasons, and maybe of other neighboring countries, like Finland.\nWhat many people have in fact realised, and what should be clear to everyone, is that it is not \"only\" a question of increasing military spending and the subsequent,increasing risk of more wars breaking out. \nIt is also about taking hundreds of billions away from public services, imposing austerity measures that will reduce the welfare state to a minimum, with the aim of selling off these services to the private sector, i.e. ultimately to large financial groups such as investment funds. \nWhich will thus profit doubly; on the one hand from the production and sale of various armaments and on the other from supplementary pensions, health policies, healthcare and so on. \nGuess who will have to pay for all this?",
