How to plot them, when to plot them, and how to profit from them. I discussed how the market moves in a series of zig-zags, essentially making higher highs, and lower lows. Here I will be introducing the support and resistance method of analysis. Let's dive right into this.\n\nThe reaction lows of a market are marked as support - the name exemplifies exactly that... A support level for the market, under the market. This area is where buy orders typically reside. Support levels are to be identified by a previous reaction low. \n\nResistance levels are precisely  the opposite. They lie above the market, acting as a psychological level for sell orders to reside on. Resistance levels are ID'd by a previous high/peak. So as a first post I thought it'd be cool to share some knowledge on the basics of technical analysis - here I'll be breaking down trend lines; what they are, how to draw them, and how to profit from them, let's get started!\n\nTrend line analysis is very easy to implement within any financial market. Understanding the concept of a \"Trend\" is important to for the implementation of technical analysis. We've all heard that expression \"The Trend Is Your Friend\" but why is that true and is it always true? I'll answer those later on. \n\nFirst of all whats a trend? Simply put, a trend is the direction of the market. This is important so that you can properly place yourself in a profitable position within the market. There are three types of trends that a market will display at any given time. This would be a clear signal to secure profits and maybe even place shorts against the market. \n\n**The Three Trend Split**\n\nDuring and up or down trend it isn't uncommon to experience a trend split.\n\n![DJI TREND SPLIT.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmea1wR6wjjhv5tijVCuzcckC6TKTWwTeTn2kGZU3Nm8Uh/DJI%20TREND%20SPLIT.png)\nDJI Monthly Chart - Three Trend Split\n\nThe first trend (most bottom trend) is considered a major / main trend line because it has moved along respectfully for a longer period of time (2009 - 2016)\n\nThe secondary trend is not considered a major trend line because it has been actively respected for less than 12 months within the 2016 period. \n\nThe final trend line is always assumed to be the final impulsive move upwards, and is typically rendered unstable because of its steepness. On average most stable trend lines tend to approximate an average slope of 45 degrees. \n\nIf the trend line is too steep it typically means that the speed in which the market is ascending/descending in is not stable at all and should be expected to break. \n\nA up/down trend line that is too flat indicates that the up/down trend is too weak.\n\n**How do we implement a trend line to become profitable within the market?**\n\nThere's typically a two point touch rule to use when utilizing trend line analysis.  \nA conformation point and a validation point.\n\nI use a two point touch rule as demonstrated below: \n\n![TWO POINT TOUCH.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmba8MDJFnDKmP4K22qYvkdcrYLwzKwoyN3xFzrVK1EhHq/TWO%20POINT%20TOUCH.png) DJI Monthly Chart - Con.+Val. It turns out that prey animals usually have different calls to indicate an owl flying over head vs an owl perched in a tree, etc. Originally they thought about doing the research with real birds and they do have some real bird data. But, real raptors are hard to come by and unpredictable.",
