| title | Powerful Anticancer & Detoxifying Foods that Everyone Should Keep in Their Diet |
| body |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8_3PIOn5Ko

Video Transcript: Mike Adams Shares Powerful Anticancer & Detoxifying Foods that Everyone Should Keep in Their Diet

Mike: I’ve done extensive research on what’s called the metals capturing capacity, up to five different types of foods. I call it the MCC. Where I test using a synthetic gastric acid digestion simulator that I built in the lab. I test foods versus contaminants.

And I find out how much of the contaminant gets bound to the food. And thereby carried out of your digestive tract as insoluble fiber rather than being absorbed through your intestinal walls and going into your blood.

This is a key concept to understand to answer your question. Processed foods have very low capturing capacity. Because the fibers are typically processed out of them. They’re also structurally compromised through processing. They’re denatured—

Ty: Right, which makes them into un-food.

Mike: Un-food. So if you eat, let’s say, a processed food or beverage that is contaminated with let’s say 10ppm of mercury, you are likely to absorb the vast majority of that mercury through your intestinal walls that goes into your blood. Or it could be radioactive caesium 137. Mercury, caesium, lead, cadmium.

Ty: Whatever it might be.

Mike: Right. But if you are eating a diet of unprocessed, fresh foods, this is a whole, plant-based diet, doesn’t have to be 100% plants, we have found that natural plants, fresh produce, such as strawberries have very high natural metals capturing capacity. They’re able to bind with the metals, mostly through physical processes of absorption and adsorption as well.

Some foods have selective ionic affinity to specific metals such as lead.

Ty: Which means they—

Mike: They have a chemical reaction that binds up the metal. It’s chemistry taking place in the acidic environment of your stomach, typically, with your own gastric acid.

So strawberries, for example, this is something that I researched and am still working on the scientific paper to put out there. But strawberries will bind with over 90% of your dietary mercury. Strawberries!

Now the reason this is the case is because strawberries are the only common fruit that have seeds on the outside of the fruit. The seeds, being on the outside, how are they grown? How are they produced by the strawberry?

Well there are strands, fibers, that send nutrients to the seeds from the center of the strawberry. The center is where it gets is nutrition and distributes it through the fibers to the seeds. These fibers which are practically transparent under a microscope happen to be very, very tough fibers. They will not be digested by nitric acid in the laboratory.

Ty: Wow!

Mike: I can take strawberries, I can mix nitric acid, we’re talking like 70% nitric acid, very strong oxidizer that would burn the skin right off your hand, it will not digest the fibers in the strawberry. The fibers survive human digestion, which is far weaker than nitric acid digestion. I mean, orders of magnitude.

The strawberries will then bind to the dietary mercury with these fibers and that gets pushed out of your system through bowel movements. The mercury is gone. It’s out. Never gets pulled into your blood stream through intestinal walls.

So many different types of fruits and vegetables have very interesting affinities to heavy metals. This is what our research has really uncovered. The only thing we found better than strawberries by the way is chlorella, which is about 98-99% efficacy. But chlorella doesn’t work for other things such as uranium. Chlorella doesn’t absorb much uranium. Spirulina does. But not strawberries

So one of the things that I’ve done in the lab, whether it’s radioactive elements such as caesium 137, or customary heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, things that cause cancer – arsenic is linked to cancer right?

Oh and by the way, you know what tends to absorb arsenic? Fruit seeds.

Ty: Fruit seeds?

Mike: Fruit seeds. Which is why some fruit seeds contain arsenic naturally. There’s arsenic in apple seeds. Remember that scare. I call it the MCC. Where I test using a synthetic gastric acid digestion simulator that I built in the lab. I test foods versus contaminants.
\n
And I find out how much of the contaminant gets bound to the food. And thereby carried out of your digestive tract as insoluble fiber rather than being absorbed through your intestinal walls and going into your blood.
\n
This is a key concept to understand to answer your question. Processed foods have very low capturing capacity. Because the fibers are typically processed out of them. They’re also structurally compromised through processing. They’re denatured—
\n

\n
Ty: Right, which makes them into un-food.
\n
Mike: Un-food. So if you eat, let’s say, a processed food or beverage that is contaminated with let’s say 10ppm of mercury, you are likely to absorb the vast majority of that mercury through your intestinal walls that goes into your blood. Or it could be radioactive caesium 137. Mercury, caesium, lead, cadmium.
\n
Ty: Whatever it might be.
\n
Mike: Right. But if you are eating a diet of unprocessed, fresh foods, this is a whole, plant-based diet, doesn’t have to be 100% plants, we have found that natural plants, fresh produce, such as strawberries have very high natural metals capturing capacity. They’re able to bind with the metals, mostly through physical processes of absorption and adsorption as well.
\n
Some foods have selective ionic affinity to specific metals such as lead.
\n
Ty: Which means they—
\n
Mike: They have a chemical reaction that binds up the metal. It’s chemistry taking place in the acidic environment of your stomach, typically, with your own gastric acid.
\n
So strawberries, for example, this is something that I researched and am still working on the scientific paper to put out there. But strawberries will bind with over 90% of your dietary mercury. Strawberries!
\n
Now the reason this is the case is because strawberries are the only common fruit that have seeds on the outside of the fruit. The seeds, being on the outside, how are they grown? How are they produced by the strawberry?
\n
Well there are strands, fibers, that send nutrients to the seeds from the center of the strawberry. The center is where it gets is nutrition and distributes it through the fibers to the seeds. These fibers which are practically transparent under a microscope happen to be very, very tough fibers. They will not be digested by nitric acid in the laboratory.
\n
Ty: Wow!
\n
Mike: I can take strawberries, I can mix nitric acid, we’re talking like 70% nitric acid, very strong oxidizer that would burn the skin right off your hand, it will not digest the fibers in the strawberry. The fibers survive human digestion, which is far weaker than nitric acid digestion. I mean, orders of magnitude.
\n
The strawberries will then bind to the dietary mercury with these fibers and that gets pushed out of your system through bowel movements. The mercury is gone. It’s out. Never gets pulled into your blood stream through intestinal walls.
\n
So many different types of fruits and vegetables have very interesting affinities to heavy metals. This is what our research has really uncovered. The only thing we found better than strawberries by the way is chlorella, which is about 98-99% efficacy. But chlorella doesn’t work for other things such as uranium. Chlorella doesn’t absorb much uranium. Spirulina does. But not strawberries
\n
So one of the things that I’ve done in the lab, whether it’s radioactive elements such as caesium 137, or customary heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, things that cause cancer – arsenic is linked to cancer right?
\n
Oh and by the way, you know what tends to absorb arsenic? Fruit seeds.
\n

\n
Ty: Fruit seeds?
\n
Mike: Fruit seeds. Which is why some fruit seeds contain arsenic naturally. There’s arsenic in apple seeds. Remember that scare. Because the apple trees tend to take up arsenic in the soil, which came from the lead arsenate pesticides that we already talked about. They tend to concentrate in the seeds, because the seeds have a natural affinity to arsenic.
\n
But if you can get apple seeds, grape seeds, raspberry seeds, blueberry seeds – believe it or not, we’ve tested all these things – if you can get your hands on these seeds, which by the way are removed from almost all the foods that are sold in the grocery store.
\n
If you buy grape jam, you don’t want seeds in it. If you buy blueberry jelly, you don’t want blueberry seeds in it.
\n
Ty: And that’s where all the good stuff is.
\n
Mike: It’s the seeds that bind with the dietary arsenic and transport it out of your body. And here’s where I might diverge from you a little bit, from this line of thinking, and we talked about this before. In my opinion, chemotherapy is very different, depending on the type of cancer. So if you look at, let’s say—here’s a really interesting comparison. If you look at gonad cancer—

Ty Bollinger: Testicular, sure.

Dr. Sahni: Yeah, testicular cancer, seminoma, and you compare it to the female version of the gonads, which is the ovaries. If you look at patients who have testicular cancer, their survival rates with chemotherapy are 95 percent. So, I would certainly argue, in the case of seminoma, that particular chemotherapy, although it may be toxic, tends to be very successful. In the case of pancreatic cancer or ovarian cancer, the results are abysmal. And the five-year survival rate is somewhere in the order of a few percentage points. And so in that case, yeah, I completely agree.

But there are some forms of cancer where I do believe chemotherapy is a good option. Now if there were a natural way to treat that cancer, then absolutely. I’ve always argued in all the Quest Series that they are not necessarily telling people, and I know you’re not telling people to abstain or avoid conventional treatments, what you’re saying is there’s other choices out there. And after reviewing natural means or alternative means and you want to go back and do those conventional treatments, maybe because it’s seminoma versus ovarian cancer, then that’s exactly what this is all about.

It’s about education, information, and being self-empowered in making your own decisions based on the facts, not inserting your bias. But the problem is when you go to see an oncologist, at least as far as I know, they don’t offer you those other opportunities. The menu is very short. The menu is typically three things—chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

And in fact, if an oncologist wanted to discuss other alternative or natural means of curing your cancer, they would probably be investigated by the medical board and possibly even prosecuted in some cases depending on the situation. Not only are they not incentivized to do it, but I think in a lot of cases, they are probably scared to even bring up some of these truths.

Ty Bollinger: Actually, we agree on that—the testicular cancer. There’s a few rare cancers that the chemo does actually work on. I think my question was that it was really more intended to bring out the fact that people are not sick with cancer because they’re shy on chemotherapy. So the reason they’re sick is not that they’re chemotherapy-deficient. Not that there are certain cancers that chemo doesn’t work on, like some non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, testicular cancer, and a few other cancers.

Dr. Sahni: Chemotherapy is not a vitamin. Chemotherapy is not a vitamin D or a vitamin C. If they were to correct their physiology, and they were to give their body the nutrition or abstain from the toxins that cause the cancer, they would actually solve the problem. If someone is exposed to a chemical that is known to cause cancer, they get cancer. They get chemotherapy, and let’s say they get lucky, and they’re successfully treated with chemotherapy, but then they go back and get exposed to that chemical again.

Well, guess what? They’re going to have cancer again. The chemotherapy didn’t fix that. The chemotherapy may have placated it, even if it worked, like we just said. And in some cases, only three percent success rate overall. The problem is not a deficiency of chemotherapy. The problem is some other outside factor that’s causing them to be sick.

Ty Bollinger: That’s definitely what I was trying to get to is that chemotherapy can be a very effective Band-Aid. Sometimes it can be a huge Band-Aid, and maybe it’s a permanent Band-Aid, but it never really corrects that imbalance.

Dr. Sahni: I think a lot of people still believe − because I talk to patients all the time about this − and they really believe that the fact that they’re going to get cancer is sort of preordained. It’s in their genes. It’s nothing they can do about that. They have no control over it.

They don’t realize that by cleaning up their body or cleaning up the area in their life that’s toxic that they absolutely cannot only prevent themselves from getting cancer but even cure or reverse cancer once they have it. I think that’s still part of the big misconception. There’s sort of bad luck. What can I do? What can I do but go to the doctor and get chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.

By Dr. Irvin Sahni

https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/does-chemotherapy-work-video/

|

Did you know that there are basically four underlying factors of the root of almost every cancer? Can you guess what they are? In this video excerpt from last year’s Truth About Cancer Live in Orlando…

Charlene Bollinger: … our good friends KC and Monica Craichy, founders of LivingFuel, will teach you what these 4 factors are and how natural foods can be even more effective than over the counter drugs. Get out your pens, paper, iPads, and whatever else you might use, and take some notes. You’re going to learn a lot from this. So listen carefully.

KC Craichy: So, we’re here today on a quest for truth. The word of God says, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” See it’s not the truth that makes you free, it’s you knowing it. So today we’re going to talk about four underlying factors that are basically at the root of just about every cancer. There are exceptions.

Monica Craichy: So, there is inflammation, oxidation, glycation, and angiogenesis. KC, real fast, what’s inflammation?

KC Craichy: You know when you twist your ankle it will start to swell and inflame, you put ice on it and so on, but it’s a process. When you have an insult to the body, whether it be physical, chemical, emotional, radiation, the body will have an inflammatory process to try to heal. The problem is that we get situations where, because of chronic stress and other things we’ve got going on, we have inflammation all the time because the body is always trying to heal something or thinks it’s trying to heal something and you have a state of chronic inflammation, like PSA in a prostate is an inflammatory marker.

Monica Craichy: And what’s oxidation?

KC Craichy: Oxidation, essentially, I’m trying to be layman here, if you cut an apple and put it on the table and come back in an hour, it’s brown, right? So essentially rust on the human body, when oxygen hits the molecules, it essentially damages them. And the body has an innate system, an antioxidant network, to deal with regular stressors, or regular oxidation. But the body, when it’s overwhelmed, like we are today with lack of sleep and stress and terrible nutrition and worry and all the things that we do, the body requires substantial additional antioxidants to stop that process of hyper aging and rusting of the body.

Monica Craichy: Okay, glycation.

KC Craichy: Glycation, similar to oxidation except for it involves sugar and proteins. So, when you caramelize onions, you basically take sugar and you stick it to the outside of the onion molecule or the onions. So that’s what happens to your proteins. So, if your glycated proteins— basically became unusable, you have sugar without an enzyme wrapped in a protein making it unusable.

And as you become older you can actually have up to a third of your proteins glycated. And you see a lot of times when the skin is cross linked, or you see unhealthy looking skin, that essentially is AGEing. A-G-E, advance glycation end products. That’s what this is. So, it’s a hyper aging. I actually wrote about this several years ago, five years ago, and said in five years it’s going to be as well known as oxidation; and still nobody knows about this. So, it’s a process that’s going on – one of the processes going on.

Monica Craichy: Angiogenesis.

KC Craichy: Angiogenesis. Again, let’s use the ankle as an example. If you twist your ankle, your body will open up new capillaries and vessels and actually grow more vessels to bring more blood supply to that area in the healing process. It happens when you have a wound, the body will put new blood vessels to bring blood and healing into that area.

It’s a fantastic process, but it also is the process by which cancer is a problem, because many people have cancer cells all their life and it’s never a problem, the immune system handles it, deal with it, no problem. But if a cancer cell can get an angiogenic blood supply, literally the body will feed a supply of blood to a cancer cell and it will grow, and there’s nothing you can do about it, essentially, at that point.

So, angiogenesis, also when you have body fat. Body fat, basically every pound of body fat has an additional one to two miles of angiogenic vessel to hold that fat and to supply that area.

So, this is a very powerful process, but the thing we’re trying to tell you here, and this is the important part, I’ll try to stay light on the science, but when you go to inflammation, the types of foods that we love to eat, you see the types of foods that actually can counteract inflammation.

Inflammation is a huge area in pharmacology. They want new anti-inflammatory drugs all the time. If you recall, Vioxx killed 50,000 people before they took it off the market, 50,000 people. Anti-inflammatories can be very dangerous. We know Tylenol, acetaminophen, is a very dangerous thing, but people give it to their kids all the time.

So, anti-inflammatories are big business, but essentially there are a lot of foods and supplements with the same power if not greater than some of these things that we’re taking that are dangerous.

Monica Craichy: Well, in the next couple slides we’re showing, I mean, you might want to take a picture of it with your phone, but you know there are foods that combat oxidation; there’s foods that combat glycation; there are foods that combat angiogenesis also so…

KC Craichy: So, they regulate and quench these processes. So, if you can stop the process of these four processes, theoretically you can stop any disease. It does not just apply to cancer. So, if you can stop these processes, you can stop a disease theoretically.

So interestingly, in the case even of angiogenesis, it’s been shown that many of the foods on this list, other antioxidants also, anti-inflammatories also, many of these foods on this list outscore every angiogenic drug. There are foods that outscore every angiogenic drug. That’s a huge area in pharmacology right now finding angiogenics.

This is a little example. If you look at the purple line there… that’s conventional cancer therapy. So, we’re talking about three years of life after intervention. And you know, in medicine, we do the craziest things, or they do let’s say, because I’m not going to take credit for this, but they take success as being a certain lifespan after treatment. No; success is long life shall you live, not just a certain number of years. But in this particular case, cancer treatment is the purple and when they add anti-angiogenic drugs, you see you double the lifespan. Double just by blocking the angiogenic process.

https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/root-causes-of-cancer/

|

| body |

A supplement called Prevagen (marketed by Quincy Bioscience) promises to ward off memory loss and boost your brainpower. If you’ve never seen one of their national television commercials, they explain that Prevagen is jelly-fish extract containing a protein that supports healthy brain function, a sharper mind and clearer thinking. To many, this sounds too good to be true, so let’s look at some facts connected to Prevagen’s claims.

Scientific Evidence Falls Short on Prevagen’s Claims

The data on Prevagen is extremely unclear. The claim is that apoaequorin — a protein from jellyfish and the key ingredient in the product — binds to calcium. This, in turn, allows calcium to be used to boost brain function. However, many experts dispute this claim.

There is absolutely no evidence that a protein the size of apoaequorin can enter the body via absorption from the digestive tract. It’s also extremely unlikely that it can cross the blood-brain-barrier, which defies the idea that it could have any influence on brain function.

Clouding the waters even further is the fact that the most compelling research on the product has been carried out by the maker, Quincy Bioscience. And none of the studies have been peer-reviewed. (If the product really works as advertised, you would think the scientific community would be all over it. But they aren’t.)

To top it off, the product doesn’t actually contain apoaequorin from jellyfish. Rather, the company discovered a way to produce a synthetic version of the protein using genetically modified bacteria. So it’s not even a natural ingredient.

FTC Brings Multiple Charges Against the Makers of Prevagen

The Prevagen claims made by Quincy Bioscience are so bold that they’ve attracted the ire of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). the FTC recently filed charges against the company and its officers.Charges include:

Count 1: False or unsubstantiated efficacy claims

Count 2: False proof claims

Count 3: Repeated fraudulent or illegal acts

Count 4: Deceptive acts or practices and false advertising

In particular, the FTC states that the study most frequently cited to promote the product “failed to show a statistically significant improvement in the treatment group over the placebo group on any of the nine computerized cognitive tasks.”

Additionally, the legal filing maintains that the defendants “do not have studies showing that orally-administered apoaequorin can cross the human blood brain barrier and therefore do not have evidence that apoaequorin enters the human brain.”

In fact, according to the legal document, the studies show just the opposite…that “apoaequorin is rapidly digested in the stomach and broken down into amino acids and small peptides like any other dietary protein.”

This is a clear warning to supplement users. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If all of the accumulated research is performed by the company marketing the product, view it with a skeptical eye. Do your research, and only buy from reputable companies.

So What Does Support Brain Function?

There are actually several supplements that have bben clinically shown to help support brain function, such as curcumin, DHA, B12 and Phosphatidyl Serine. There are also activities and hobbies that help keep your brain sharp, such as word games, photography and dance — and foods known to ward off brain fog, such as blueberries, wild salmon and dark chocolate.

by Dana Nicholas

http://www.liveinthenow.com/article/prevagen-memory-supplement-found-fraud

|

| body |

The association between eating red meat and colon cancer just got stronger. Research from Britain suggests that eating a diet free of beef, pork and lamb significantly lowers the risk of cancer in the descending colon, the part of the intestines where feces are stored.

Prior research indicates eating lots of red meat and processed meat is tied to an increased risk of colorectal cancer. However, the authors of the current study said little is known about how dietary patterns are linked to the development of cancer in specific areas of the bowel.

Scientists at the University of Leeds were part of an international team that evaluated whether red meat, fish, poultry or vegetarian diets are associated with colon and rectal cancer. They used data from the United Kingdom Women’s Cohort Study, which included 32,147 women from Scotland, Wales and England. The participants were recruited between 1995 and 1998 and were followed an average of 17 years.

Red Meat Diet Tied to Highest Risk, Vegetarian Diet Tied to Lowest Risk

The researchers examined the women’s dietary habits and looked at their documented cases of colon cancer to ascertain correlations. Data showed 335 cases of colon cancer, 119 of which were in the descending colon. The team discovered that those who ate red meat regularly had higher rates of cancer in this part of the colon compared to those on other diets. Vegetarians had the lowest risk of the cancer.

Interestingly, eating whole grains and drinking milk may also be associated with a decreased risk of colorectal cancer. The fiber and calcium content of these foods have been linked to a reduced risk of the malignancy in earlier studies, the research team noted.

“The impact of different types of red meat and dietary patterns on cancer locations is one of the biggest challenges in the study of diet and colorectal cancer,” said lead author Dr. Diego Rada Fernandez de Jauregui, part of the Nutritional Epidemiology Group (NEG) at Leeds, and the University of the Basque Country in Spain.

“Our research is one of the few studies looking at this relationship and while further analysis in a larger study is needed, it could provide valuable information for those with family history of colorectal cancer and those working on prevention.”

The study was published in the International Journal for Cancer.

Limit Red Meat Consumption

According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, the body of evidence linking red and processed meat to bowel cancer is strong. | title | Feeling Forgetful? Better Lay Off These Foods |
| body |

The idea of losing one’s ability to think, remember and reason strikes fear in the minds of millions of aging adults around the world. Cognitive impairment leads to a decline in quality of life and is often the first sign of the most insidious form of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers have been slowly uncovering many of the mysteries of cognitive decline in an attempt to find a way to prevent or even treat this condition before it takes control of the mind and can advance to wreak havoc in the life of the individual, caregivers and family members.

A number of recent studies have demonstrated that lifestyle factors can have a strong influence in the development and progression of cognitive decline. Diet, chemicals used around the house and in cosmetics, environmental pollutants and common medications have been implicated in promoting cognitive dysfunction, as they alter brain chemistry and electrical signaling in the brain.

Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates Disrupt Brain Chemistry and Spike Risk of Cognitive Decline

Researchers from the Mayo Clinic, publishing the results of their study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, explain how people 70 and older who eat food high in carbohydrates have nearly four times the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment, and the danger is also present with a diet heavy in sugar. Those who consume a lot of protein and fat relative to carbohydrates are less likely to become cognitively impaired, the study found.

This study reinforces the evidence accumulated to date that demonstrates the importance of eliminating processed and refined sugars and carbohydrates to achieve optimal health. Lead study author, Dr. Rosebud Roberts commented “We think it’s important that you eat a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat, because each of these nutrients has an important role in the body.”

To conduct the study, researcher’s accumulated data on 940 people aged 70 to 89 who provided information on what they ate during the previous year, and demonstrated no signs of cognitive impairment. After four years of follow-up evaluations, 200 participants were beginning to show mild cognitive impairment, problems with memory, language, thinking and judgment that are greater than normal age-related changes.

Drastically Limit or Eliminate All Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates to Maintain Brain Health

Participants with the highest reported intake of carbohydrates were 1.9 times more likely to develop cognitive impairment as compared to those with the lowest consumption. Similarly, individuals with the highest sugar intake were 1.5 times as likely to have cognitive decline compared to the lowest consumption group. Group participants with the highest fat intake were 42 percent less likely to face cognitive impairment, and those who had the highest intake of protein had a reduced risk of 21 percent.

When total fat and protein intake were factored, those with the highest carbohydrate intake were 3.6 times more likely to develop cognitive impairment. Dr. Roberts concluded “A high carbohydrate intake could be bad for you because carbohydrates impact your glucose and insulin metabolism…sugar fuels the brain — so moderate intake is good. However, high levels of sugar may actually prevent the brain from using the sugar — similar to what we see with type 2 diabetes.” The results of this and many prior studies confirm that drastically limiting or eliminating refined carbohydrates and sugars significantly lower the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

by John Phillip

http://www.liveinthenow.com/article/feeling-forgetful-better-lay-off-these-foods

|

"body": "
\n

\n
The idea of losing one’s ability to think, remember and reason strikes fear in the minds of millions of aging adults around the world. Cognitive impairment leads to a decline in quality of life and is often the first sign of the most insidious form of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers have been slowly uncovering many of the mysteries of cognitive decline in an attempt to find a way to prevent or even treat this condition before it takes control of the mind and can advance to wreak havoc in the life of the individual, caregivers and family members.
\n
A number of recent studies have demonstrated that lifestyle factors can have a strong influence in the development and progression of cognitive decline. Diet, chemicals used around the house and in cosmetics, environmental pollutants and common medications have been implicated in promoting cognitive dysfunction, as they alter brain chemistry and electrical signaling in the brain.
\n

\n
Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates Disrupt Brain Chemistry and Spike Risk of Cognitive Decline
\n
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic, publishing the results of their study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, explain how people 70 and older who eat food high in carbohydrates have nearly four times the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment, and the danger is also present with a diet heavy in sugar. Those who consume a lot of protein and fat relative to carbohydrates are less likely to become cognitively impaired, the study found.
\n
This study reinforces the evidence accumulated to date that demonstrates the importance of eliminating processed and refined sugars and carbohydrates to achieve optimal health. Lead study author, Dr. Rosebud Roberts commented “We think it’s important that you eat a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat, because each of these nutrients has an important role in the body.”
\n
To conduct the study, researcher’s accumulated data on 940 people aged 70 to 89 who provided information on what they ate during the previous year, and demonstrated no signs of cognitive impairment. After four years of follow-up evaluations, 200 participants were beginning to show mild cognitive impairment, problems with memory, language, thinking and judgment that are greater than normal age-related changes.
\n

\n
Drastically Limit or Eliminate All Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates to Maintain Brain Health
\n
Participants with the highest reported intake of carbohydrates were 1.9 times more likely to develop cognitive impairment as compared to those with the lowest consumption. Similarly, individuals with the highest sugar intake were 1.5 times as likely to have cognitive decline compared to the lowest consumption group. Group participants with the highest fat intake were 42 percent less likely to face cognitive impairment, and those who had the highest intake of protein had a reduced risk of 21 percent.
\n
\n
by John Phillip
\n
http://www.liveinthenow.com/article/feeling-forgetful-better-lay-off-these-foods
\n

\n
",

| title | 5 Worst Chemicals in Your Cleaning Products (and the Safe Alternatives to Use Instead) |
| body |

Did you know that many of the products we use to clean our homes and businesses are full of toxins? But fortunately, we don’t need to sacrifice cleanliness for safety. Here are some common household chemicals that pose health dangers, as well as safe, natural alternatives for them.

Lye, ethanol, ammonia, triclosan, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde and other harmful ingredients are contained within a plethora of products such as cleaning agents, antibacterial soaps, bleach and disinfectants. Such chemicals are linked to asthma, cancer, skin disorders and reproductive problems.

Moreover, a study at the University of Bergen in Norway found people who clean their homes regularly have a 14-percent higher risk of suffering from a reduction in lung function over the next 20 years. While lung function declines with age, the inhalation of toxic fumes from cleaning agents accelerates the deterioration.Although the list of harmful chemicals in cleaning products is extensive, the following ones are among the worst:

Chlorine-based compounds like sodium hypochlorite, the active ingredient in bleach, can irritate the airways, skin and eyes even at low doses. Mixing bleach with other cleaning products can produce a deadly gas.

1,4-Dioxane is a carcinogen that laces numerous products. The kidneys and liver are target organs for its toxicity.

Benzalkonium chloride, a disinfectant, is associated with serious respiratory, skin and eye irritations.

Terpenes, found in lemon- and pine-scented cleaning products, increase the risk of asthma. Even more alarming, when they come in contact with ozone in the home, they transform into formaldehyde, a chemical linked to cancer.

Isothiazolinones is responsible for an increase in contact dermatitis, a skin condition involving redness, itchiness and blisters.

It’s good to be familiar with common toxins, but the absence of these chemicals on a cleaning product label doesn’t ensure safety. According to the Environmental Working Group, only 7 percent of such products on the market fully disclose their contents.

Some “Green” Cleaners Are Toxic

Noted natural health practitioner Dr. Joseph Mercola warns that some cleaning products labeled “green” or “natural” are also full of harmful ingredients. These claims are merely marketing terms, and because the industry is only minimally regulated, they aren’t dependable indicators that a product is safe. For instance, a popular cleaning agent called Simple Green claims to be nontoxic, yet it contains 2-Butoxyethanol, a chemical classified as dangerous by the European Union.

A 2010 study tested 25 household scented products that included cleaning agents, half of which claimed to be organic, natural or green. The researchers found each product contained 17 chemicals. However, only one chemical was listed on the labels. Of the 133 chemicals detected, approximately 25 percent were categorized as hazardous or toxic substances under federal law.

Homemade Natural Alternatives Are Your Safest Bet

For housecleaning, you can use natural agents, many of which are typically found in the pantry. It’s surprising how well they work. Consider tossing out all the toxin-laden products in your home and replacing them with the items below:

Baking soda has virus-killing properties and a granular texture, which makes it useful for scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen. It’s also a substitute for silver polish. In addition, when mixed with apple cider vinegar, baking soda is an alternative to drain cleaners.

White vinegar can effectively clean soap scum, grim and grease. It can also be used in place of toxic dryer fabric softener sheets. A solution of 50 percent vinegar and 50 percent water will clean glass and windows. Vinegar sprayed over baking powder makes a good all-purpose cleanser.

Lemon juice has antibacterial properties that eliminate mold and mildew. It also removes stains, shines hard surfaces and imparts a wonderful scent. Recipes can be found online for making an all-purpose cleaner using lemons, vinegar and water.

Castile soap is made with olive oil or other vegetable oils, and it contains no chemical detergents. It can be purchased in health food stores. The liquid form makes a good dishwashing or laundry detergent. A solution of the liquid with other ingredients can clean almost anything. "body": "
\n

\n
Did you know that many of the products we use to clean our homes and businesses are full of toxins? But fortunately, we don’t need to sacrifice cleanliness for safety. Here are some common household chemicals that pose health dangers, as well as safe, natural alternatives for them.
\n
Lye, ethanol, ammonia, triclosan, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde and other harmful ingredients are contained within a plethora of products such as cleaning agents, antibacterial soaps, bleach and disinfectants. Such chemicals are linked to asthma, cancer, skin disorders and reproductive problems.
\n
Moreover, a study at the University of Bergen in Norway found people who clean their homes regularly have a 14-percent higher risk of suffering from a reduction in lung function over the next 20 years. While lung function declines with age, the inhalation of toxic fumes from cleaning agents accelerates the deterioration.Although the list of harmful chemicals in cleaning products is extensive, the following ones are among the worst:
\n
\n
Chlorine-based compounds like sodium hypochlorite, the active ingredient in bleach, can irritate the airways, skin and eyes even at low doses. Mixing bleach with other cleaning products can produce a deadly gas.
\n
1,4-Dioxane is a carcinogen that laces numerous products. The kidneys and liver are target organs for its toxicity.
\n
Benzalkonium chloride, a disinfectant, is associated with serious respiratory, skin and eye irritations.
\n
Terpenes, found in lemon- and pine-scented cleaning products, increase the risk of asthma. Even more alarming, when they come in contact with ozone in the home, they transform into formaldehyde, a chemical linked to cancer.
\n
Isothiazolinones is responsible for an increase in contact dermatitis, a skin condition involving redness, itchiness and blisters.
\n
\n
It’s good to be familiar with common toxins, but the absence of these chemicals on a cleaning product label doesn’t ensure safety. According to the Environmental Working Group, only 7 percent of such products on the market fully disclose their contents.
\n

\n
Some “Green” Cleaners Are Toxic
\n
Noted natural health practitioner Dr. Joseph Mercola warns that some cleaning products labeled “green” or “natural” are also full of harmful ingredients. These claims are merely marketing terms, and because the industry is only minimally regulated, they aren’t dependable indicators that a product is safe. For instance, a popular cleaning agent called Simple Green claims to be nontoxic, yet it contains 2-Butoxyethanol, a chemical classified as dangerous by the European Union.
\n
A 2010 study tested 25 household scented products that included cleaning agents, half of which claimed to be organic, natural or green. The researchers found each product contained 17 chemicals. However, only one chemical was listed on the labels. Of the 133 chemicals detected, approximately 25 percent were categorized as hazardous or toxic substances under federal law.
\n

\n
Homemade Natural Alternatives Are Your Safest Bet
\n
For housecleaning, you can use natural agents, many of which are typically found in the pantry. It’s surprising how well they work. Consider tossing out all the toxin-laden products in your home and replacing them with the items below:
\n

\n
\n
Baking soda has virus-killing properties and a granular texture, which makes it useful for scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen. It’s also a substitute for silver polish. In addition, when mixed with apple cider vinegar, baking soda is an alternative to drain cleaners.
\n
White vinegar can effectively clean soap scum, grim and grease. It can also be used in place of toxic dryer fabric softener sheets. A solution of 50 percent vinegar and 50 percent water will clean glass and windows. Vinegar sprayed over baking powder makes a good all-purpose cleanser.
\n
Lemon juice has antibacterial properties that eliminate mold and mildew. It also removes stains, shines hard surfaces and imparts a wonderful scent. Recipes can be found online for making an all-purpose cleaner using lemons, vinegar and water.
\n
Castile soap is made with olive oil or other vegetable oils, and it contains no chemical detergents. It can be purchased in health food stores. The liquid form makes a good dishwashing or laundry detergent. A solution of the liquid with other ingredients can clean almost anything. For example, a combination of castile soap, water and essential pine oil can replace a pine cleaner, and a mixture of the soap, water and vodka makes a counter disinfectant.
\n
Organic essential oils, such as the pine oil mentioned above, can be used in homemade cleaning products in place of synthetic fragrances. Some oils like lavender and rosemary have antibacterial properties, a benefit that gives them a dual purpose.
\n
\n
By Mary West
\n
http://www.liveinthenow.com/article/toxic-chemicals-cleaning-products-safest-natural-alternatives
\n
",

Many people with the illness have reached for Tamiflu; however, reports of serious neuropsychiatric side effects, such as hallucinations, are raising concerns about its safety.

Tamiflu, known as oseltamivir, and Relenza, known as zanamivir, are antiviral agents purported to reduce flu symptoms. Moreover, deaths have been associated with the drug, some of which have been attributed to suicides.

While incidences of neuropsychiatric side effects are supposed to be rare, they’ve occurred often enough to be very troubling: since 2009, the Food and Drug Administration has received notifications of 559 cases of hallucinations from Tamiflu.

Cochrane Review of Tamiflu

Several years ago, an international team of researchers expanded a project called the Cochrane Review, which investigated the safety and efficacy of Tamiflu. Therefore, to get a complete picture of the evidence, the Cochrane Collaboration filed a Freedom of Information lawsuit to obtain the hidden documents from Tamiflu studies. In their final review issued in 2014, the researchers said that the harmful effects of the drug hadn’t been fully reported. | title | Yikes! Three-Fourths of World’s Honey Contains a Harmful Pesticide |
| body |

A new report has found that 75 percent of the world’s honey contains pesticides called neonicotinoids or neonics. The authors concluded that these agents, which are purported to protect crops from vermin, have a harmful effect on the insects that pollinate one-third of our food supply. It’s time to stop the mass-scale use of the chemicals.

In the study published in the journal Science, Edward Mitchell, a biology professor at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland, led a research team in collecting honey samples from six continents between 2012 and 2016. Of the 198 samples they tested for the five primary types of neonics, at least one type was found in 86 percent from North America, 80 percent from Asia, 79 percent from Europe, 73 percent from Africa, 71 percent from Australia and 57 percent from South America. Almost half of the samples contained more than one neonic, and 10 percent contained four or five.

How Do Neonics Affect Bees?

The authors expressed serious concern about the impact of neonics on bees. “Although the impact of the measured concentrations of neonicotinoids in honey on vertebrates, including humans, is considered negligible, a significant detrimental effect on bees is likely for a substantial proportion of the analyzed samples, as adult bees rely on honey for food, including during periods of overwintering or seasons without blossoming flowers,” they said.

“The increasingly documented sublethal effects of neonicotinoid pesticides at environmentally relevant concentrations on bees and other nontarget organisms include growth disorders, reduced efficiency of the immune system, neurological and cognitive disorders, respiratory and reproductive function, queen survival, foraging efficiency, and homing capacity at concentrations as low as 0.10 ng/g,” they added.

How Do Neonics Affect Humans?

Researchers in the study didn’t seem worried about the possibility of adverse health effects on humans resulting from the consumption of neonic-laced honey. However, not everyone is convinced that long-term consumption of small amounts of the chemical is safe. People can ingest neonics from the crops sprayed with the pesticide as well as honey. According to Dave Goulson, Professor of Biology at the University of Sussex, the chronic effects aren’t known, reports Daily Mail.

“Beyond doubt…anyone regularly eating honey is likely to be getting a small dose of mixed neurotoxins,” he said. “In terms of acute toxicity, this certainly won’t kill them and is unlikely to do measurable harm. What we don’t know is whether there are long-term, chronic effects from life-time exposure to a cocktail of these and other pesticides in our honey and most other foods.”

Risks of Neonics Outweigh Benefits

Do we really need neonics? EcoWatch reports that the latest research shows the class of pesticides provide little or no benefit for crop production. Neonics reduce soil quality, harm the environment and don’t dependably lower the risk of farmers’ financial risk, the publication contends.

Since the risks outweigh the benefits, especially for the critically needed bee population, neonics should be banned. In 2013, the E.U. imposed a temporary ban on three neonics on bee-attractive crops, and the agency is considering extending the moratorium. In addition, Canada’s Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency has proposed phasing out one neonic in 2021. Conversely, North American oversight agencies haven’t recognized the environmental threat posed by the chemicals and the necessity of preventing further harm. It’s best to buy organic fruits, vegetables, grains and honey to minimize exposure to pesticides.

By Mary West

http://www.liveinthenow.com/article/75-worlds-honey-contains-harmful-pesticides

|
