      "body": "La obra de **Francis Fukuyama** es amplia y dilatada en el tiempo, arrojando, sin embargo, un balance muy dispar de entre donde destacan dos: *La gran ruptura* y *Trust*. No incluyo, pese a su gran interés, el artículo el \"El fin de la historia\" que iba a granjearle fama mundial. En él, el entonces analista de asuntos soviéticos, preconizo en términos hegelianos como la derrota del comunismo abría un tiempo nuevo donde el liberalismo democrático (que como la mayoría de politólogos definió de forma imprecisa) no tendría alternativa viable. Se trata de un texto tan citado como mal interpretado, del que Fukuyama le hubiera sacado más partido de haberse apoyado en el debate del cálculo económico iniciado por **Mises**, pero si que tuvo el don del tiempo: su publicación en el verano de 1989, prácticamente coincidió con el cese de las injerencias de Moscú en el bloque del Este, y pocos meses antes del derrumbe del régimen soviético.\n\nLa habilidad de saber dar con teorías que dan respuesta a las inquietudes del momento, aunque sea a cosa de una gran imprecisión y de forma incompleta, es una habilidad que Fukuyama mantiene intacta. En su último libro *Identidad*, el politólogo estadounidense se propone explicar el desasosiego global que ha causado la elección de Trump o al *Brexit*, pero también el auge del nacional-populismo, la ira del movimiento *MeToo* o *Black Lives Matter*; todo con una única piedra de toque: el thymós, una figura del pensamiento clásico citada en La República de **Platón** (algo que no suele ser prometedor) que quiere recoge la necesidad humana del reconocimiento de los demás. Algo que explicó de forma más sofisticada y solvente la ilustración escocesa del XVIII (**Smith** y **Hume** a la cabeza), pero sigamos. Cuando se percibe que este reconocimiento no es el adecuado, surgen conflictos. Con este elemento, trufado de elementos del psicoanálisis, Fukuyama se enmienda así mismo, o al menos en parte.\n\nLo cierto, es que la proposición de Fukuyama resulta manifiestamente insuficiente para explicar el amplio objeto de análisis que plantea. Como la mayoría de pensadores políticos, Fukuyama es usuario del instrumental hegeliano-marxista, donde la sociedad no es una suma de individuos sino una serie de grupos, la mayoría de veces enfrentados, que responden a leyes materiales inmutables y donde la economía, básicamente, se observa como un juego de suma cero.\n\nEsta visión del mundo queda latente desde el punto de partida que no es otro que el vincular la desigualdad económica con el populismo, siguiendo las tesis del \"elefante\" de **Branko Milanovic**. Según este celebrado estudio, la globalización no ha sido beneficiosa para todos, o al menos no en la misma proporción. O eso nos decían los datos donde los beneficiados son los pobres y clases medias de países emergentes y los súper ricos, pero no las clases medias de los países desarrollados.\n\nSin embargo, si uno analiza los datos y excluye de la muestra las antiguas repúblicas soviéticas (el periodo de análisis coincide justo con el colapso de la URSS, 1988–2008) y Japón, en crisis desde 1989, el resultado es que todos los cohortes de renta han subido, y además lo han hecho en un porcentaje más o menos igual: el elefante se aplana hasta el punto de ser una línea recta (\"Examing an elephant\", A Corlett, *Resolution Foundation*, sept. 2016). \n\nLo contrario es verdad. La libertad de comercio genera riqueza para la economía y si esta se genera en un entorno verdaderamente de mercado, esta se reparte de manera justa. Lo cierto es que los orígenes de la desigualdad que podemos considerar injusta no están en la globalización o en una presión fiscal insuficiente, sino en la represión monetaria, que imposibilita el ahorro y debilita los salarios reales, o la falta de reformas tras la crisis que han condenado a una parte muy importante de la población al paro y situaciones precarias. La clave además, como señalaba **Nassim Taleb** hace poco, es que este análisis de la desigualdad incorpore el binomio riesgo/incertidumbre y se analicen los datos de forma dinámica (\"Inequality and Skin in the Game\", N. Taleb, *Medium*, 27/12/2016).\n\nEl resultado, es que gran parte de los datos que sirven para dibujar el diagnóstico de partida (como el mencionado tema de la desigualdad) y que trata de explicar en el libro son incorrectos o incompletos, lo que limita lógicamente la eficacia del texto y deja al lector una gran sensación de frustración.\n\nCon todo, la gran limitación del ensayo radica en la sobre simplificación en la mayoría de temas y el intento del autor por explicar con el mismo teorema fenómenos totalmente distintos. En el mar de fondo del libro falla el método. De forma velada o inconsciente, las cuestiones políticas y sociales se abordan utilizando colectivos uniformes entre sí, heterogéneos con otros grupos, así como una muy limitada concepción de la naturaleza de la condición humana.\nPor ejemplo, el autor crítica la visión miope del homo economicus, dominante en la economía neoclásica en las últimas década, para luego incorporar su thymós –en sus dos variantes: isotimina, reconocimiento como igual; o megalotimia, reconocimiento como superior– siguiendo las mismas formas; es decir de forma agregada, ignorando como los economistas que crítica el carácter singular, único, creativo e impredecible de la acción humana. Puede que el concepto thymós pueda ser útil en ciertos casos para explicar algunas situaciones, pero no siempre tendrá el mismo carácter explicativo (quizás ni sea relevante), dependiendo del problema aislado que queramos analizar.\n\nIndentidad esboza algunas pinceladas sobre los problemas modernos pero no acaba nunca de dibujar una imagen completa ni clara de ellos. El autor da algunos elementos que pueden explicar los problemas de convivencia como la distinción entre el yo interno y el yo externo, una dicotomía que entra en conflicto cuando el yo interno se quiere imponer sobre el yo social. El autor lanza críticas a la izquierda por su giro desde las políticas sociales ha las políticas de identidad. El filósofo **Javier Gomá** planteó en su día el problema en términos más claros y sencillos al subrayar que el reto del hombre contemporáneo tras tres siglos de expansión de la libertad, de la igualdad democrática según la terminología de **Tocqueville**, como somos capaces de ser libres juntos.\n\nSería injusto no destacar algunos momentos de lucidez como la argumentación en base a La teoría de los sentimientos morales de Smith de que la \"renta básica\" no es la solución a los problemas de falta de trabajo debido a la automatización (*sic*), las certeras críticas al multiculturalismo (nada que ver con una sociedad abierta), y primer paso hacia las nocivas políticas de identidad como ha explicado el nada sospechoso **Mark Lilla**, o cómo la corrección política es una seria amenaza incluso para el avance de la ciencia. Fukuyama establece con el tema del reconocimiento una dialéctica, al estilo marxista de choque de clases, de manera que las ganancias de uno, son las perdidas de otro (igual que sucede con el tema de la desigualdad). Un juego emocional de suma cero, tan irreal como poco efectivo a la hora de entender los amenazas que ensombrecen cada vez más el normal funcionamiento del orden social liberal.\n\nEl enfoque alternativo al análisis de la acción humana, basado en la doble revolución marginalista y subjetivista que arranca en Viena con el pensamiento de **Carl Menger**, gran bastión contra el historicismo alemán (origen intelectual de todos los males políticos del siglo XX), sigue válido pero igual poco \"sexy\" al cuestionar, a fin de cuentas, la capacidad del científico social de entender realmente los fenómenos que pretende explicar, y sigue ocupando, por desgracia, un lugar muy marginal entre sociólogos y politólogos modernos. Hoy todos somos marxistas.",

      "body": "Siguiendo a mi admirado **Shane Parrish** de Farnan Street paso a resumir parte de la planificación de lecturas para este año\n\nLo ya leído\n\n*The Square and The Tower*, **Niall Ferguson** siempre claro, bien estructurado, original y divertido de leer. En esta ocasión hace un divertido repaso a la historia reciente del mundo poniendo el foco en las redes, las relaciones (generalmente) informales horizontales y como estas fuerzas colosionan e interactuan con el poder vertical del Estado, de ahí también la metáfora de la “plaza” y la “torre”. Debate sacará el libro en septiembre.\n\n*La tormenta de la guerra*, **Andrew Roberts**, libro que repasa la Segunda Guerra mundial, sobretodo desde una óptica militar. Magnífico resumen poniendo gran parte del foco en dar perspectiva sobre como los errores cometidos por Hitler fueron claves para decantar la balanza en favor de los Aliados. El retrato bélico que ofrece Roberts es tan riguroso como humano, prestando mucha atención a la dimensión moral de la guerra y de la historia.\n\n*Skin in the Game*, **Nassim Taleb**. De las lecturas más esperadas del año y no defrauda nada. Moderno libro de ética en donde de manera sintética el filosofo posmoderno nos subraya sus principales tesis con respecto a su riquísima denda cuatrología Icerto.\n\n*Para combatir de era*, **Rob Riemen**. Continuación del magnífico ensayo *Nobleza de espíritu* (ambos editados en Taurus), donde el filósofo holandés ahonda en sus tesis para no resignarse a esta política del resentimiento que caracteriza el escenario actual. Magnífico libro que se lee de una sentada en donde el Nobel peruano repasa su crecimiento intelectual a través de los grandes pensadores que más le han influenciado en su carrera. Muy destacables las semblanzas a F.A. Hayek, Karl Popper e Isaías Berlin.\n\n*Lo que no podemos saber*, **Marcus du Sautoy**. Brillante libro que explora los límites del saber en el campo de la ciencia. Hasta cierto punto estamos ante dos libros en uno: por un lado, un libro de divulgación científica en donde se nos presentan de forma accesible los grandes avanza.\n\n*La identidad cultural no existe*, **François Jullien**. Feroz e inteligente crítica al nacionalismo identitario. Texto sesudo u exigente, en algunas partes meta-filosófico, pero que aborda con solvencia el espinoso tema de la identidad, lo colectivo, lo universal y lo individual. Un libro que evoca poderosamente al clásico de Amartya Sen *Identidad y violencia* y con puntos de encuentro con otro interesante libro sobre el tema de Amim Maalouf, las *Indentidades asesinas*.\n\n*Bourgeois Equality: How Ideas, Not Capital or Institutions, Enriched the World*, el tercer y último volumen que configuran la historia reciente del mundo de la brillante economista de la Universidad de Chicago **Deirdre N. McCloskey**. Nuestras sociedades han ido acumulando, de manera acelerada, mejores estándares de vida, un horizonte de oportunidades más amplio, más y mejor información, democracia y cultura; pero, sin embargo, también es cierto que el compás moral que debe guiar una sociedad sólida hace tiempo que no estaba tan desorientado. En su lúcido libro *Nobleza de espíritu* (Taurus, 2016; con prólogo de **George Steiner**),el filosofo holandés **Rob Riemen**, realiza un potente alegato en defensa del humanismo, la responsabilidad individual y la importancia de la ética en el análisis social a través de tres magníficos ensayos.\n\nSe trata de un texto que apela a la memoria. Riemen subraya los principios rectores esenciales para mantener una búsqueda honesta de la verdad. Con potentes ecos poperianos, el autor reflexiona sobre como la verdad existe, advirtiendo contra ese relativismo de todo vale; y, al mismo tiempo, transluce la idea clave de que la verdad es algo inalcanzable, nadie tiene el monopolio del saber, afirma Riemen, ni la certeza absoluta sobre un postulado.\n\nRiemen se apoya principalmente en tres férreos puntos de ancláje: **Goethe**, **Spinoza** o **Mann** que sirven como potentes referentes para afinar la brújula moral con la misma precisión con la que el diapasón da el tono a la orquestra. A propósito de Goethe, Reimen introduce el concepto central de nobleza que, como cualquier virtud, es ineluctablemente resultado de un esfuerzo personal e intransferible. Esta nobleza de espíritu es un habito exigente que requiere una ejercitación constante. Una condición imprescindible, recuerda Riemen, para aquellos que quieran asomarse al mundo con una mirada educada, refinada, capaz de razonar con espíritu crítico. Un potente mensaje en línea con el concepto de filosofía mundana del filósofo **Javier Gomá**.\n\nA propósito de su paisano Spinoza, otro magnífico observador del alma humana (Spinoza tiene unas observaciones sobre España y Cataluña muy curiosas), el humanista holandés destaca la importancia vital que tiene para el intelectual la independencia. Una independencia que Riemen no limita a las ataduras, normalmente más visibles, de los poderes fácticos y mediáticos, sino también, y más importante, una independencia con respecto ataduras ideológicas y (añado) sentimentales. Algo especialmente pertinente en un momento en que se esta sustituyendo peligrosamente la causa del periodismo por el periodismo de la causa. Vamos cortos de observadores capaces de ser críticos consigo mismos, de dejarse sorprender por la realidad y poner en tela de juicio sus prejuicios. Por el contrario, vamos sobrados de plumillas de causa para quién se analiza y filtra desde un prisma de color determinado. La objetividad no existe, pero no es lo que aquí se reclama, sino más bien de recuperar un espíritu crítico, honesto con la verdad, representado en figuras como **Albert Camus** o **George Orwell** (por poner solo dos figuras que unen a la derecha y la izquierda).\n\nEn todo el texto de Riemen aflora una defensa del valor de la humildad, en su acepción misiana de saber aceptar nuestras limitaciones epistemológicas. Rieman desconfía de la actitud cientifista, sobre la que ya advirtió **Hayek** en *La fatal arrogancia*: los problemas políticos y sociales no se arreglan con la escuadra y el cartabón, con respuestas simples y únicas. Este humanismo consciente de la aviesa naturaleza humana choca con la visión euclidea de lo que el autor llama *tecno-evangelistas* y otros paradigmas del pensamiento plano.\n\nLa buena ciencia va irremediablemente ligada a una visión humana de la vida, necesita de una visión filosófica solvente y refinada en la que apoyarse. El filósofo posmoderno **Nassim Taleb**, por ejemplo, distingue entre el pensamiento del tipo **Descartes** (cartesiano, que aborrece) de la fineza humanista de **Montaigne**. Reflexiones especialmente aplicables al mundo de la economía, por ejemplo, muy propenso al uso de modelos estocásticos, y también de forma creciente para politólogos y sociólogos, muchas veces seducidos. por la utopía de querer transformar la sociedad por la vía del BOE o a golpe de tuit.       "body": "\"*The main fuel to accelerate world progress is our reserve of knowledge, and the brake is our lack of imagination*.\"\n\n**Julian Simon**, *The State of Humanity* (1995)\n\nThe first oil crisis in 1973 gave powerful wings to the idea around the unsustainability of growth and the need to impose limits. A little earlier, in the late 1960s, **Paul Elrich**, a dark entomologist at Stanford University, wrote *The Population Bomb*, a warning book on how the rising population would condemn the human race to the inevitable famine of the 1980s. The proposal was to simply to put *limits on growth*. It was not a new idea. In the eighteenth century, the English clergyman **Thomas Malthus** warned about the risks of famine that faced humanity if it continued to grow. A vision of the economy as a zero-sum game also present in Marxism and which, mutatus mutandi, have reached our days in the modern forms of the Club of Rome or the seemingly novel theses of analysts such as **Naomi Klein**.\n\nWhen Malthus wrote his thesis in 1779 the world population did not reach 1 billion, poverty was the natural condition of practically all, literacy was reserved for a strict minority, life expectancy barely reached 35 years, with infant mortality very high, and such conditions that even the King of France had to do his needs in the corners of the corridors of Versailles. Today, the world population exceeds 7,000 million souls and, as **Johan Norberg** reminds us in his book *Progress*, we all live better than ever. Theory that offers us a synthetic view of the main metrics that help to evaluate the progress of humanity in these last 200 years, basically since Europe launches its Industrial Revolution, and some brushstrokes, even if only superficially, on why pass. Why we improve.\n\nNorberg summarizes the progress of humanity in terms of food, sanitation (access to running water), life expectancy, violence, environment, literacy, freedom and equality. Many of these tendencies feed off each other: better nutrition, the result of technological and scientific advances, has a positive impact on a longer life expectancy and a lower negative impact on the environment. All the above, affects, in the end, a greater accumulation of capital, both physical and human (think of education), which in turn is positively related to the reduction of violence or to enlighten more free and fair societies. A conquest, in addition, relatively recent. Norberg shows us how neo-Malthusian discourse systematically underestimates the incentives and creative, inventive capacity to solve the problems of humanity.       "body": "Aprovechando la excusa de nuestra inteligente ordenación del tiempo, que nos regala en pocos días el “estreno” de un nuevo año, para compartir tres propósitos para 2018.\n\nEl primero es **ahorrar** más. Ahorrar es siempre sinónimo de libertad; es la variable que nos permite ejercerla en la práctica. Acumular capital, ya sea monetario vía el ahorro, o no monetario, por otras vías como la educación y la lectura, nos permite tomar nuestras decisiones libremente; es lo que nos permite decidir a qué nos dedicamos, para quién trabajamos, nos libera de estar atados a pesadas deudas o sometidos a un jefe o compañía que no nos interesa.\n\nAhorrar no es tarea fácil; menos aún en la actual coyuntura de represión financiera. Ni los elevados impuestos, por un lado, ni la inflación, por otro, ambas variables controladas por el Estado, facilitan una tarea ya de por sí muy laboriosa (y de hecho, así nos va). El hecho es que estamos obligados, por leyes de curso obligatorio forzoso, a utilizar monedas fiduciarias que de forma irremediable de devalúan con el tiempo debido a la barra libre de liquidez con la que los bancos centrales suelen solucionar los problemas de insolvencia de los grandes deudores del mundo (léase los propios Estados y la banca). Esto nos obliga a buscar de manera activa estrategias que protejan nuestros ahorros de la erosión de la inflación (lo explican magníficamente bien **Baggus/Marquart** en su libro *Blind Robbery*).\n\nEsto me lleva a mí segundo propósito: **invertir** mejor. Invertir es, en definitiva, decidir de forma inteligente qué activos compramos, que nos proporcionen buenas rentas y que se revaloricen con el tiempo; básicamente cómo protegemos este ahorro, donde lo colocamos para que este no se devalúe.  Si ahorrar no es fácil, invertir con sentido común es aún más complejo. Resumiendo mucho, pasa por tres elementos: la calidad de los activos, el precio de compra y, lo que yo llamo, la *psicología del inversor*, una combinación de temple y paciencia a la hora de mantener las estrategias de inversión decididas. \n\nLas dos primeras: saber evaluar la calidad de un activo (ya sea una acción, un bono o un bien inmueble), y enjuiciar su precio, que supone aproximar su valor (una tarea siempre imperfecta), son siempre tareas muy complejas. Así pues podemos configurar nosotros mismos nuestra cartera de inversión o apoyarnos en un tercero (igual que acudimos al dentista cuando tenemos una caries) para que nos ayude y oriente.\n\nTanto si somos inversores por cuenta ajena como por cuenta propia, la protección del ahorro es siempre exigente. Vivimos en un entorno complejo, muy interconectado y cada vez más dinámico y por lo tanto también más exigente, en donde como decía el poeta no siempre es fácil *escuchar la música* –tener *criterio* (el verdadero recurso escaso hoy en día)– *entre tanto ruido*. \n\nLlegamos así a mi último propósito del año: **leer** más (y mejor). En un mundo saturado de información, mucha de ella de muy mala calidad, el libro (no todos, también en los libros algunas veces se impone la cultura del corto plazo) se erige como un pequeño oasis para la reflexión pausada. Escribir un libro es una tarea necesariamente laboriosa; igual que lo es su lectura, exige *concentración*, que para **Daniel Goleman** es uno de los factores claves en el éxito de prácticamente cualquier cosa. Este esfuerzo por ambos lados es lo que permite maximizar las posibilidades de enjuiciar la información que nos llega con un mínimo de garantías. Es más fácil desenmascarar alguien sin criterio en un libro de 200 páginas que un tuit de 240 caracteres.\n\nEn efecto, la lectura lineal del libro es lenta y exigente, lejos de la siempre más visual y apetecible hipertexto, pero constituye una gimnasia irrenunciable para mantener en forma a nuestro cerebro, y es un filtro de calidad en un momento en donde se publica de todo. No conozca otra manera de adquirir criterio (con la excepción de viajar o conversar con gente inteligente) que luego permite tomar mejores decisiones de inversión (en todos los ámbitos), lo que ensancha nuestro potencial de generar más ingresos y más ahorro, acumular más capital, y, en definitiva ser más libres. \n\nAl margen de los imponderables que no controlamos como la salud, qué 2018 sea un año de mucho ahorro y acumulación de capital, inversión con sentido común y mucha lectura.",

      "body": "At this point, few are those who have not yet heard of Bitcoin, the new digital currency on the support of the still incipient but very promising blockchain technology. With the great rise in its price this year, more than 2,000%, there have been thousands of voices warning about whether or not bitcoin is a bubble. The truth is that the discussion about what is the value of bitcoin and, therefore, whether its price is adjusted to reality or not, is an impossibility​ given the premature circumstances surrounding bitcoin. In this sense, it is convenient to be cautious when making categorical claims about its price that divert attention from its possible value and evolution as a solution in the difficult task of protecting savings in the future.\n\nTo evaluate to what extend bitcoin can fulfill its promises, two things are needed: on the one hand, to understand what blockchain technology is, and the challenges it faces; on the other hand, to have a sound monetary theory.\n\n**What is Bitcoin?**\n\nBitcoin was born with the aspiration to become a new form of money. A very particular form of money, with limited, transparent and impossible to manipulate supply, fixed in an algorithm written by the most famous anonymous person in the world, **Satoshi Nakamoto**.\n\nThat is, the opposite of the nationalized money with which we are forced to operate every day (fiat inflationary currencies): a form of money constantly debased by politicians and central bankers, either via discretionary spending or debt monetization (public and private); an unfair scheme in which some benefit from being able to settle their debts with debased currency while a large majority see how the purchasing power of their savings and wages is reduced inexorable.\n\n**What is money?**\n\nIf bitcoin aspires to become a new form of digital money, next step is to understand what is money. The most perfect definition of money is given by **Carl Menger**, founder of the Vienna School, in *On The Origins of Money* (1892). Menger establishes how any good, under the circumstances, can become money. Money, continues Menger, is a spontaneous institution that allows overcoming the limitations of a barter economy.\n\nAccording to this classic definition of money (which also coincides with the properties that he arrogates from the messy **John Law** to the libertarian **Murray Rothbard**), money is a good capable of fulfilling three basic functions: unit of account, means of payment, and, more important by far, deposit of value. In short, money is what allows us to articulate saving, everything that we generate and do not consume and that allows us to accumulate reserves to face the unpredictable eventualities of life and to undertake investment projects in increasingly sophisticated capital goods. That's why its function is so important.\n\nWhen this function of depositing value is eliminated due to the effects of inflation (printing of currency over the amount of real saving, as in the current financial repression scenario), economic agents are forced to increase their profile of risk, to speculate, if you do not want, irremediably, lose the purchasing power of your savings.\n\nFor centuries, gold has been the most genuine form of money. It was a relatively scarce good, with a stable and limited supply, relatively easy to transport, unalterable (despite the many alchemical attempts), fungible and almost impossible to manipulate. As economies became more sophisticated, and so did the credit and banking markets, paper money, backed by gold, became the most effective form of money until the arrival of the first wave of computer revolution, where credit and debit cards took up a significant part of the money, although (and despite the fact that it is hard to believe) the most usual payment in the whole world is still in cash.\n\nWhile these changes were happening with respect to the means of payment, the money also changed, and much, with respect to its value reserve function: since the early twentieth century and, especially after the creation of the Fed in 1913 and the end of the Great War, the former anchor with the gold standard was discredited and, little by little, the central banks, and not the metallic anchor, were in charge of determining the money supply. In this way, before any financial eventuality, the printing of currency was seen as an easy exit, apparently painless (without political cost), with the consequent generalized devaluation of the currency due to the general rise in prices at all levels. \n\n**Fiat money vs. Bitcoin** \n\nThis inflationary context is important to understand the possible perspectives of bitcoin and its unstoppable boom in the last 2-3 years. The offer of bitcoin, unlike the offer of dollars or euros, is strictly limited: exactly to 21 million bitcoins, as happens with gold. The algorithm initially designed by Nakamoto in 2009 today is distributed network among hundreds of thousands of nodes that operate and maintain the blockchain in a decentralized manner regulate the offer. Any change that you want to impose should be approved by a large majority of these nodes.\n\nSmall pause on the road for those who hear the word blockchain for the first time. A blockchain, very summarized, is a database, open book, distributed and dynamic, changing with each block of information that joins the chain. Each blockchain has its rules and is designed for a specific purpose: in the case of bitcoin, the exchange of value of a currency with limited supply. In this way, within the bitcoin blockchain each user can send a unit of value to another user, such as a cash payment, privately and directly, without the need of any intermediary (neither Chase, nor Visa, nor even PayPal). \n\nEach blockchain has a consensus, the set of rules that regulate its operation and that include (also in the case of bitcoin) a series of incentives for the hundreds of thousands of nodes that dedicate time and (above all) energy to operate and maintain the network in a decentralized manner for the benefit of all. The blockchain is like an open accounting book: a record where all the members of the network have access. In this way, a bitcoin cannot be stolen or altered, cannot be copied and you cannot increase your offer at pleasure.\n\nBitcoin has some very unique properties that place it in a very advantageous position to become a kind of digital gold in the future; hence the growing interest of many and its so dizzying rise. It is, to a certain extent, an improved gold; with lower transportation costs and a safer and cheaper custody. Therefore, and regardless of its price, bitcoin is for many a very important and interesting thing, since it is a form of money outside the public powers, a form of money *denationalized* in happy expression of **F.A. Hayek**.\n\nThat's why it seems premature to limit the analysis of bitcoin solely to its price and simply say that it is a bubble; as equally reckless it turns out to be unaware of the challenges and obstacles that it still has to overcome.\n\nIn any case, it is therefore incorrect to compare the value of bitcoin with the market capitalization of Wal Mart or it is wrong to talk about investing in bitcoin, when, only, today we can speculate and not even with its price (which is the least), but on whether bitcoin will become a new form of \"sound money\", what is really interesting.\n\nIf bitcoin goes down to 1,000 USD tomorrow, it would still seem like an interesting topic to follow.
