The Garibaldi were plentiful, yet now a rare sight. They are big like large full-size pancakes, maybe bigger. It's difficult to get the true perspective from either shore or cliff top.\n\nWe have a protected kelp forest surrounding the cove, and I imagine my orange friends hiding there. I doubt that seals are put off by the tangle of kelp. I depicted Potsy as too lazy a fellow to invade the deeps, a fantasy to justify my cherished illusion, that our Garibaldi still thrive there. The kelp forest must provide sea mammals with plenty of food, though I'd have to consult my oceanographer friend. You've inspired me to perhaps investigate what is really going on down there...\n\nHowever, I have witnessed how swift seals and sea lions are in leaping off rocks to protect territory from new seals, though any such notion is moot today. Eye witness accounts of such savage sea mammal fighting is less common though they do fuss at one another. Currently they must coexist in a melting-pot of seal and sea lion species. These cover all the beach and rocks they desire for sunbathing, mating, birth and pup-rearing activities. \n\nThe really terrible part for humans (other than we long time locals lamenting the disappearance of our loved Garibaldi) is the bio-hazard not to mention stench from pounds and pounds of excrement. Mucho dinero have been spent on things ranging from a biodegradable foam that dissolves it off the rocks, with the side benefit of feeding the ocean with whatever new substance the mixture creates. To a sea mammal-whisperer, attempting to coax the beasties to swim to islands or beaches less coveted by the humans. \n\nTo date, the sea-mammals are unmoved by any such imaginative and legal human intervention. Yes, this is a protected species, though in certain tree-forested areas of the world we have hunters to cull the deer populations...\n\nFolks with ocean-front property can't open their windows to let the salt air in... Visitors, I am amazed to observe, are willing to walk among the muck and ignore lifeguard and posted warnings. Seals do bite when their personal space is invaded, and are swift to enforce their natural laws. Sadly every season there are accidents. Still you'll see a tourist attempting to take their selfie with a seal.\n\nI check the breeze direction and plan my cove walk accordingly, yet ocean breeze can be fickle and catch you off guard (gag). Many times, especially when the weather is hot, I just go to another seal-free beach... plenty of those within walking distance, thankfully.\n\nI will probably do a magical realism piece inspired by the old days when only a few seals and sea lions lived here. Once I named the largest I ever saw, Neptune, when I happened upon him at the bottom of a cave I was exploring. Thankfully there was a fence between us, and he apparently felt undisturbed by my appearance. I wouldn't have liked him to test the strength of that barrier...",

I actually saw them first when someone brought over her video cassettes (!) and I was amazed - even on that teen-room size TV-player. I remembered them some time later and found the DVDs online - so glad I snapped them up. The culture is beautiful, and a passion for me and close friends. So I'll look for the Star story about Sita and share it with them, thanks.",

      "body": "Okay, you asked for it! I'll start first with oldies (good from a storyteller perspective, even with awkward 80's, Batman-like special effects). Produced and directed by Bollywood icon, Ramanand Sagar. I like Sagar's work because of the emotion conveyed, and the featured spiritual commentary by scholars. The music is old-traditional so may or may not be what you like. Ram, played by Arun Govil was wonderful. \n\nFound the following DVDs on Ebay and Amazon awhile back. Today these seem rare and pricey, maybe you can find/sample some on Youtube before investing: \n\n1) Ramayan\n2) Luv Kush \n3) Krishna (a good bit of which includes the epic Mahabharata)\n4) Shree Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh\n\nLoved Sarvadaman D. Banerjee's portrayal of the God and grown embodiment of Krishna. He conveys the trickster, enough to keep it entertaining through 56 \"volumes\" (DVDs) but not overdone. The costars are fun, too.\n\nFor the more dramatic, powerful Shiva stories, my NEW favorite is \"Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev\" (English: Lord of the Lords... Mahadev). Another Bollywood company (Life OK) produced the series. More up-to-date tech (HD and CGI SPFX). Updated music. They aired all 820 episodes (36 seasons) 2011-2014.\n\nA friend tuned me into the first season on DVDs with English subtitles. You can find that first and one more season on Amazon. Only downside is,  the other 34 seasons aren't available (yet?).  Also, beware other productions with similar titles or keywords. You want the authentic Life OK production. \n\nSidebar: for awhile my friend shared bookmarks for later seasons, hosted by international fan sites w/English subtitles. By now these are likely 'gone' or unavailable in many countries. I wanted more after they began to disappear and I was hooked. Tried watching what I found without subtitles, but that didn't work...! My hope is that Life OK would make all 36 seasons available on DVD with subtitles.\n\nBTW, there are older DVDs on Shiva that may or may not be as good as the Ramanand Sagar's productions. Because of the technology of that age, they definitely wouldn't be as good as the Life OK 2011-2014 series. None of my recommends here are the children's animations which I haven't previewed. \n\nLife OK Actor Mohit Raina as Shiva (and Mahadev / Mahakala / Nataraja / Nilakantha) is astonishing. When you see him, you'll know what I mean. Used to and still feel that way about Sagar's Ram played by Arun Govil, but true to the two Gods and personalities being so different, as is Krishna's.\n\nAnother recommendation: Carole Satyamurti's \"Mahaharata: A Modern Retelling.\" Quite lovely. Possibly an inspiring resource for  other storytellers to spark the imagination.",
