In 26 years since the inception of Premier League, Liverpool finished second on the table on just three occasions. There were, of course, notable exceptions where the club rose above and grabbed the limelight. Like winning the Champions League in 2005 and two FA Cup titles, but largely, the club's performance in two and half decades has been mediocre.\nIt's also fair to say that for the first time in a really long time, Liverpool are considered as one of the favourites for the league ahead of the new season. In terms of quality, Liverpool do not match Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, but thanks to the additions they made in the pre-season matches, and retaining the services of key attacking players, the Jurgen Klopp's side can dare to dream about bringing home the 19th title.\n\nThere's no doubt that under Klopp's stewardship, Liverpool have become a force, playing a brand of football that is attractive in the truest sense of the word. A footballing philosophy that is eye-pleasing and also good enough to convince top talents to sign for the club. Klopp's rebuilding process saw the club qualify for the Champions League twice in succession and also reaching the final of the Champions League last season. This will be the third full season for Klopp and now the exceptions are sky high in terms of delivering trophies.\n\nThe expectations are justified because of the way the club has conducted its business in the transfer window. Klopp made sure that there is some upgrade with the kind of players who have joined the team. The biggest improvement came in the area which was the most problematic in the last two years. Liverpool signed Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker from AS Roma for a record fee of £66.9 million after Klopp came to the conclusion that neither Loris Karius nor Simon Mignolet is good enough to be team's No 1 goalkeeper.\n\nPaying that kind of fee for a goalkeeper raised few eyebrows but Liverpool had no other option. After Mignolet failed to impress Klopp last season, Karius became the German coach's No 1 choice. He showed potential at the beginning, proving his abilities as good shot-stopper but he lacked consistency. The goalkeeping woes of the club reached its pinnacle when Karius committed two ridiculous errors against Real Madrid in last season's Champions League final. Alission comes to the club with huge expectations, but pressure is not new to Alisson considering he was Brazil's numero uno at the World Cup. His distribution is also at par with world's best and he showed the glimpses of it during the club's pre-season game against Napoli.",

      "body": "As consumers around the globe increasingly turn to plant-derived options for drinks what used to come from lactating animals, the Food and Drug Administration is looking to offer an assist to dairy farmers.\n\nFDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb is making the case for banning the word \"milk\" from the labels of plant-based products, citing consumer confusion.\n\n\"One area that needs greater clarity -- and which has been the subject of much discussion of late -- is the wide variety of plant-based foods that are being positioned in the marketplace as substitutes for standardized dairy products,\" Gottlieb said on Thursday, while noting \"a proliferation of products made from soy, almond or rice calling themselves milk.\"\n\nSaying the products vary widely in nutritional content, the commissioner, who's a physician, listed cases of young children fed rice-based drinks being stricken with kwashiorkor, a severe form of protein malnutrition. Another toddler has been diagnosed with rickets, a disease caused by vitamin D deficiency, after drinking a soy alternative instead of cow's milk.\n\nThe commissioner's view is in line with that of the American Dairy Association, which offers a cautionary take on plant-based alternatives on its website, Drink-Milk.com: \"While true milk comes from an animal and contains the natural sugar lactose, there are other 'milks' sold in the dairy case, but they are not created equal.\"\n\nThe notion that people are confused by products such as soy, almond and coconut milk was disputed by Danone North America, which has made the case that both dairy and plant-based products are clearly labeled with nutrition facts that consumers can use to fit their dietary needs and preferences.\n\n\"People understand the difference between dairy milk and plant-based choices and we do not believe further labeling standards are necessary, whether they are government or industry proposed,\" emailed a spokesperson for Danone, which sells both plant-based and dairy-derived products. \"Soy milk, almond milk and coconut milk are the 'common and usual' names for these products under the meaning of FDA regulations, and multiple federal courts have ruled as much.\"\n\nDanone in 2016 acquired WhiteWave Foods -- the parent of plant-based brands including Silk and Vega -- for $12.5 billion.\n\nFurther, the human nutritional need for milk from a cow diminishes greatly once one is no longer an infant or child, and about 60 percent of adults around the world have difficulty digesting it, at least the version with lactose.\n\nThe FDA held a hearing Thursday to gather public comments about the issue, part of a strategy it unveiled in March to address poor nutrition and its role in preventable diseases.\n\nThe agency has indicated that it could prohibit the use of the word \"milk\" on packages of plant-based beverages based on existing FDA standards on the definition of milk. That said, Gottlieb acknowledged that suddenly enforcing a rule that hadn't been enforced for years should be reviewed first.\n\nConsumption of animal-based milk has steadily declined, falling 22 percent from 2006 to 2016, according to global figures recently released by Cargill, which produces animal feed for the meat and dairy industry. Both the batsmen now have 476 sixes against their name. Gayle achieved the feat in 443 matches while Afridi reached the mark in 524 matches.       "body": "Washington: The federal regulator whose agency oversees mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is being investigated for alleged sexual harassment of an employee.\n\nThe employee's attorney confirmed Friday that there is an investigation underway into the allegations against Melvin Watt, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). The case was first reported by Politico.\n\nThe attorney, Diane Seltzer Torre, declined to name the employee out of respect for her privacy or to provide any details.\n\nWatt, who was appointed by former US president Barack Obama, said case documents were given to Politico in a politically motivated leak.\n\n\"The selective leaks related to this matter are obviously intended to embarrass or to lead to an unfounded or political conclusion,\" he said in a statement. \"However, I am confident that the investigation currently in progress will confirm that I have not done anything contrary to law.\"\n\nWatt, a former Democratic US House member from North Carolina, assumed the FHFA post in January 2014. His term is up in January, giving president Donald Trump the chance to appoint a replacement. Watt is one of very few high-level officials named by Obama who remain in office.\n\nThe FHFA employee filed a complaint under the Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOA), alleging that Watt repeatedly made unwanted sexual advances when she tried to discuss career promotion and salary issues, according to Politico. In another episode, Watt allegedly asked the employee about a tattoo on her ankle, saying, \"If I kissed that one, would it lead to more?\"\n\nThe FHFA was created after the government stepped in to rescue and take over Fannie and Freddie in the depths of the financial crisis in 2008, after massive losses on risky mortgages threatened to topple them. The taxpayer support — a combined $170 billion for the two companies — was the most expensive bailout of the crisis. They have turned profitable in recent years and repaid the federal aid.\n\nFannie and Freddie back the preponderance of US home loans. They buy the mortgages from banks and other lenders, bundle them into bonds with a guarantee against default and then sell them to investors around the world.\n\nThe FHFA oversees the companies' mortgage holdings estimated at more than $5 trillion.\n\nSome lawmakers and government officials have pressed in recent years to eliminate Fannie and Freddie and reduce taxpayers' exposure to further risk. A plan was put forward to slowly dissolve the companies, a process that could take as long as seven years.       "body": "The BSE Sensex hit the 37,000 level for the first time today on widespread buying in capital goods, FMCG, realty and banking stocks amid heavy buying by domestic institutional investors and positive global cues.\n\nNSE Nifty too touched a new peak of 11,172.20.\n\nShort-covering of bets, today being the last session of July expiry in the derivatives segment, and strengthening rupee against the dollar, kept the overall market sentiment high.\n\nThe 30-share index crossed the 37,000-mark by jumping 156.42 points, or 0.42 per cent, to 37,014.65 in early trade today, breaching its previous intra-day record of 36,947.18 hit yesterday.\n\nStrong gains in capital goods, FMCG, realty, banking, PSU, auto, healthcare, infrastructure, consumer durables and oil and gas stocks helped the index top the new milestone.\n\nThe NSE Nifty spurted 40.20 points, or 0.36 per cent, to hit a new peak of 11,172.20, surpassing its previous (intra-day) record of 11,171.55 hit on January 29.\n\nAnalysts said strong liquidity in the market following unabated buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and encouraging Q1 earnings by some companies lifted the mood.\n\nOn a net basis, DIIs bought shares worth Rs 97.64 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,195.75 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.\n\nTop gainers that helped Sensex scale its new peak were SBI, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ITC, Coal India, L&T, ONGC, HDFC Bank, RIL, Maruti, M&M, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Bank and HDFC, rising up to 1.79 per cent.\n\nWhile, Asian Paints, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro and Infosys were among the top losers, shedding up to 1 per cent.\n\nAsian stocks climbed tracking gains in US shares.
