| title | Keys to Conquering any Illness |
| body | Cancer, Crones, Colitis there are many more illnesses and immune disorders that don't begin with a C that can cause havoc in peoples life. As a cancer survivor, there were 7 key items (one for each day of the week) that helped me get through the last two years of my life with cancer. Today, I am happy to say that I am in remission and am being given another chance at life. If you or a family member is suffering from a critical illness, then here are a few things one can do to help get through the tough times and hopefully get one to continue to enjoy life. These are the 7 most critical things I changed to help me become healthy and strong again: 1. NUTRITION: Around the global we love to eat, but what we put in our mouths impacts our bodies in so many ways. So changing ones diet is critical. Moving to ORGANIC and a PLANT-BASED diet helps to eliminate toxins in your body. If you have not seen the Fork Over Knife program on Netflix or viewed the website, it is a must see. ELIMINATE refined SUGARS, sugar feeds cancer and disease and it sure does not help diabetics. Yes, this is hard, but think of sugar as poison and it can change you thinking almost immediately. It is said that Sugar is more addicting than cocaine. One can substitute sugar with agave, maple syrup or honey, these natural products are healthier options. JUICE VEGGIES, drink lots of homemade juices, celery juice is a bit odd tasting at first, but when you know your life is depending on things, the taste becomes palatable! Enjoy a fruit/veggie smoothie. ELIMINATE DAIRY and buy organic, reduce your intake as dairy causes inflammation. The last thing one needs when your ill is more inflammation! I am not saying one must go vegan, because you should watch processed foods, but I would strongly recommend limiting intake of non-organic items. A fabulous Cancer Retreat Center, Mary's Place by the Sea in Ocean Grove, NJ has a fantastic chef, she only serves plant based foods and I can tell you every meal is fantastic! Even my meat loving husband enjoys the vegan Shepards Pie! If you know a women with cancer, encourage them to visit Mary's Place, it is free, you just need to get there. the team there is phenomenal. There are great recipes out there, try KrisCarr.com, a cancer survivor herself, her recipes are delicious. 2. EXERCISE: Find some form of exercise and do it daily! I found walking to help me tremendously, when I was hospitalized, I would walk the halls and do my laps. I was a rare breed, my Sloan doctors always reminded me that walking was the best thing and so I did it, it was kinda fun! One needs to keep the body moving! Sitting, while you think it may be relaxing at times, can do you more harm than good. I worked my way up from walks ( in the winter Mall walking was a favorite) to Physical Therapy to help strengthen my weak muscles and finally I found a great fitness center that I enjoy going too. The YMCA LiveStrong program got me going and what a great group of helpful people. Fitness centers have a lot to offer, I love the biking classes, Tai Chi, Yoga and of course I do strengthen training. One must get the muscles strengthened, so you can deal with the set backs along the way. 1 Year of Chemo and 6 months of immunotherapy can have a toll on your body, so exercise has saved me. Get up and get out! Walk the mall, walk the park, walk the tread mill! 3. RELATIONSHIPS: Build strong relationships with family and friends. Take the time to meet up with your family members and friends, invite them to your doctor appointments. This may seem like an invasion of privacy, but waiting rooms and the infusion room can be depressing! Bringing a friend or family member can really help reduce the stress. The racing mind can be troublesome, so talking with a companion can help you to forget your issues, calm you and allow you to catch up. Go to lunch before or after, fill your companion in on your thinking and surprisingly they will help you get through the tough days. AND DON NOT BE AFRAID to ask your friends for help!! You'll be surprised how much people want to help those who are ill, they just don't know what to do, so simply tell them what you need, a ride, a meal, or just a visit! Trust me they will be happy to help and if they can't then just ask someone else. 4. ENERGY HEALING: I found energy healing through a friend and I was instantly hooked. The Donna Eden Energy Healing methodology is the one used by my practitioner. I find it to be a cross between meditation and acupressure. You learn the key energy points on your body, by applying a little bit of pressure you can relax your organs, muscles and simply feel good! When you think about it your body is made of billions of molecules, they require energy to survive and so energy healing helps to ensure the energy in your body is flowing. You need to be grounded and connect with the earth. Simply walk barefoot in the grass or on the beach and you usually feel a sense of peace. Keep that energy moving as you the human body is amazing. It can heal itself! Through learning these practices you can make sure you keep the energy flowing in your body. Try the Brazilian toe, you need someone to do it for you, but it helps especially if you start to have neuropathy in your feet. 5. SPIRITUALITY : For some this is easy and for other not so much. But finding your higher power will help you focus and relax. As a long time catholic, I was furious with God, but I know now my beliefs truly helped me to get the strength and courage to fight the fight! Go to church, temple or shrine, attend bible study, connect with your religious family and get the strength to carry on. These places are calming and inspirational and the people you meet there are so helpful and supportive. 6. MEDITATION: Learning to meditate is hard, but it can be so relaxing and really get you off to a great start of the day, help you fall asleep at night and simple calm you from the stresses of the day. There are some great apps out there like CALM and HEADSPACE, you can also find classes at your local yoga studio or fitness center. One needs to learn to relax!! Take the time for yourself and relax for 5-10 minutes a few times a day. It will calm you and give you the boost you need to carry on. 7. LAUGHTER: This can be hard when you are feeling down, but remember to smile and laugh often. Watch a funny movie, talk to friends. My bestie lives across the country and she sent me a joke every Wednesday. This was particularly helpful when I was going through CHEMO, as I always new someone was thinking about me on my tough days and a corny joke would make me chuckle and bring a smile to my face. A good belly laugh can make you cry and relieve so much tension in the body! Try it as it can really uplift your day!! I hope those of you who read this find the information helpful. It does not only apply to those with cancer, it can help anyone who has an illness and it can simply help you be healthier. You need to find the bright side of things and bring them into your life, it can give you the strength to carry on!! PICK ONE ITEM FOR EACH DAY of the week, and figure out how you will incorporate these items into your daily life, so that you can get healthy, feel better and live the life you deserve! Namaste!! |

Get up and get out! Walk the mall, walk the park, walk the tread mill! \n\n3. Trust me they will be happy to help and if they can't then just ask someone else.\n\n4. Try the Brazilian toe, you need someone to do it for you, but it helps especially if you start to have neuropathy in your feet.\n\n5. \n\n6. It will calm you and give you the boost you need to carry on.\n\n7. Try it as it can really uplift your day!!\n\n\nI hope those of you who read this find the information helpful. It does not only apply to those with cancer, it can help anyone who has an illness and it can simply help you be healthier. You need to find the bright side of things and bring them into your life, it can give you the strength to carry on!! PICK ONE ITEM FOR EACH DAY of the week, and figure out how you will incorporate these items into your daily life, so that you can get healthy, feel better and live the life you deserve!\n\nNamaste!!",
