      "body": "![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaPbqgWs2Ez6nKCha3Dp32MLYV29FNmAv4AavjD5a3ksL/image.png)\n\n대표 가상화폐 비트코인 물량 절반 이상을 사이버 암시장에서 불법 포르노, 마약, 무기 등을 매매하는 범죄자들이 보유하고 있고, 비트코인 거래의 44.3%가 사이버 암시장에서 이뤄지고 있다는 주장이 제기됐다. \n\n션 폴리 오스트레일리아 시드니대 교수, 조나단 칼센 시드니공과대(UTS) 교수, 탈리스 푸트닌스(Tālis Putniņš) UTS 교수 등은 최근 ‘섹스, 마약, 비트코인-얼마나 많은 불법 행위가 비트코인을 통해 이뤄지는가(Sex, Drugs, and Bitcoin: How Much Illegal Activity Is Financed Through Cryptocurrency)’라는 제목의 논문을 워킹페이퍼(정식 학술지 게재 전 미리 발표한 뒤 계속 수정·보완하는 논문) 형태로 발표했다. \n\n이 논문에서 연구팀은 2009년 1월부터 2017년 4월까지 모든 비트코인 거래 내역을 ‘딥웹(deep web)’이라고 불리는 사이버 암시장에서 이뤄진 범죄와 연관된 불법 거래 기록과 비교해 추려냈다. 암시장 내 불법 거래를 찾아내기 위해 딥웹 내 사이버 암시장 웹사이트, 커뮤니티 데이터를 전용 소프트웨어로 수집한 뒤 이를 분석했다. 이후 네트워크 분석 및 통계 분석 기법을 사용해 추정치를 도출했다.\n\n분석 결과 전체 비트코인 이용자의 25.2%, 어드레스(가상화폐 거래에 필요한 일종의 계좌 번호)의 38.2%가 범죄 거래와 연관된 것으로 추정됐다. 비트코인 거래 가운데 범죄 거래가 차지하는 비중은 44.3%에 달했다.\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSCrQkuJfVNfKUaq3GSskLsdy41jEg4uuE864ZELSBTii/image.png)\n\n특히 비트코인 물량 가운데 51.3%가 범죄 거래를 하는 이들이 소유한 것으로 나타났다고 밝혔다. 연구진은 추정치를 가장 높게 잡을 경우 이 비율이 61.8%(최소값은 40.8%)에 달할 것으로 봤다. 2017년 소폭 감소하긴 했지만 범죄자들이 보유한 비트코인 물량은 여전히 전체의 40%를 넘을 것이라고 분석했다. 지난 29일 현재 약 1890억달러 정도인 비트코인 시가총액을 감안하면 770억달러 어치가 넘는 비트코인을 범죄자들이 보유하고 있는 셈이다. 우리 돈으로 환산하면 82조5000억원이다.\n\n폴리 교수 등은 “비트코인을 활용한 범죄 거래는 사이버 암시장 성장과 궤를 같이 하고 있다”며 “가상화폐가 사이버 암시장이 커가는 데 주된 요인이 된 것”이라고 설명했다. 비트코인 가격이 뛰면서 일반인들이 비트코인 투자에 뛰어든 2016, 2017년을 제외하면 전체 비트코인 거래의 60~80%가 사이버 암시장에서 이뤄지고 있었다고 주장했다.\n\n딥웹은 익스플로러나 크롬 같은 인터넷 창(웹 브라우저)으로는 접속할 수 없는 인터넷 망을 일컫는 말이다. 인터넷 주소(IP) 등 흔적을 남기지 않고 인터넷에 접속할 수 있어 불법 포르노, 마약, 무기, 개인정보, 해킹 의뢰 등 범죄에 널리 사용된다. 여기에 접속하기 위해서는 토르(Tor) 등 전용 웹 브라우저를 사용해야 한다. 가상화폐가 딥웹 기반 사이버 암시장 내에서 금융 거래를 할 수 있도록 했다는 게 연구진의 분석이다.\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWxNie8twzs29Fxvu1ueEiBqEc5Y2bNM8CS6XAcSxfWwv/image.png) \n\n연구진은 일반인들의 합법적 비트코인 거래가 2016년 전후 크게 증가했지만, 범죄 거래도 마찬가지로 늘었다고 지적했다. 폴리 교수는 “미 연방수사국(FBI) 등의 사이버 암시장 단속이 늘었지만, 비트코인 기반의 범죄성 거래는 계속 증가하는 추세”라고 주장했다. \n\n그는 “합법적 이용자들이 비트코인을 투자 자산처럼 거래한다면, 불법 이용자들은 대부분 대금 결제 수단으로 사용한다”며 “가상화폐의 사용가치가 있다면 이 사이버 암시장에서 결제 수단으로 쓰인다는 점”이라고 말했다",
