| body |

Training

Now it is difficult to accurately determine when the Internet has changed the vector in the direction of refusing anonymity, having erected a social profile in the crown of creation. It happened under all laws of the "Art of War", which is abhorred by aggressive methods of subordinating "new territories". Slowly and delicately, the consciousness of users changed toward acquiring a kind of identity passport on the World Wide Web. With each new year the importance of social networks increased, and their number approached the assortment of the hypermarket. A decade ago, the knowledge of the interlocutor was limited exclusively to the nickname, and sometimes he was completely absent. You could be called anything, use as a visualization profile of your favorite movie hero, animal, fanciful symbol - in general, any image you like. Real photos, by the way, were a relict rarity. Over time, many forums were emptied; Exchange of opinions, advice and undying verbal battles were transferred to the walls, pages, the tapes of the world's social networks. On the one hand - classmates, student friends, friends are always at the distance of a login and password, on the other - an unwanted post dooms for a very real term of imprisonment. Relatively recently, an activist from Naberezhnye Chelny, Rafis Kashapov, was sentenced to three years in prison for several posts in the social network "VKontakte". The convicted person posted on his page texts on political topics, where he unflatteringly spoke about the current administration of the Crimea peninsula and allowed comparison of the incumbent president of the Russian Federation with the notorious head of the NSDAP in the period from 1921 to 1945. A "demotivator" with sharp criticism of Russian foreign policy was also added to the case materials. It is noteworthy that after serving the main sentence, the convict does not have the right to use social networks for two years. The latter fact once again demonstrates the importance of the Internet and the impact of processes occurring in it on actions outside. This is echoed by the process connected with the leader of the Progress Party (which was denied official registration in the territory of the Russian Federation) by Alexei Navalny. By his public and political activities Navalny goes far beyond the officially acceptable "fork" of criticism of the powers of the Russian Federation. Using the Internet as the main lever for promoting one's own views, he launched many high-profile projects: RosPil, RosYama, RosVybori, Good Machine of Truth, and RosZhKh. Each of the projects is based on the identification, analysis and, most importantly, universal access to information related to the theft of public funds and all kinds of abuses in the ranks of statesmen and employees. For reference: in 2011, by joint efforts of Internet users and the international jury, the project "RosPil" received the award "The most useful resource for society" of the International competition of blogs and network communities The BOBs. The following year brought the project awards in the nominations "Opening of the Year" and "Investor of the Year" network Competition ROTOR, whose goal is to designate the most significant projects and figures of runet. Having effectively used (and continuing to do this) modern means of communication, Navalny gained the image of the Russian Julian Assange, although their activities differ in many respects. Frankly speaking, the birth of Assange in the territory of the post-Soviet space is almost impossible, since "abortion" can happen at any stage of his life, and publicity this "operation" will not get so accurately (or the objective lens will turn 180 degrees so that we all know the "truth" ). But this lyrical digression, and we will be interested in the fact that since 2010 (when the project "RosPil" started) Navalny is being accused, witnessed, under investigation in a number of administrative, arbitration and criminal cases. The uncertainty of court decisions, which are rendered and adjusted either in haste, or in the search for Achilles' heel - for us are not the essence. The lesson of the judicial decision of February 28, 2014, one of the measures of which concerned the ban on the use of the Internet, is important. I emphasize and insist on the high level of relevance of the Network in today's society. Agree, a decade ago the ban on the use of the Web would have gone down for an anecdote from the last page of the local newspaper. In general, there is a joke in every joke. "It's time to recognize access to the Internet as a human right. This means that acceptable access to the Web for all must be guaranteed, Internet traffic must be delivered without commercial or political discrimination and with respect for the protection and privacy of the web users and freedom, regardless of where they live ... ... Like all powerful tools, the network can be used for good and evil. When you look at the web, you see humanity, some details are amazing, but some are horrible. You can not make everyone on the Internet a saint. But you can use the Internet for your own good. It's open to everyone, "said Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of the HTTP protocol (thanks to his decision, we know the Internet the way it is). Undoubtedly, absolutely criminal intentions, which cause real harm to another person or organization, must be identified and committed to appropriate punishment. However, it happens that the measure of good deeds is lost, and the laws take the form of fighting against ideologically dangerous statements, ideas and appeals for the state. An expert in this field on the territory of Russia is the organization "Roskomvoboda". Her years of experience show that even the most negative scenarios of Internet activity can be implemented. On my question about the level of freedom of the user on the Internet, the founder and head of the movement Artem Kozlyuk gave a capacious and honest answer: "At the moment the Internet is quite free. Although the last few years there is a tendency for him to become enslaved. Roughly speaking, in Asia it began to happen earlier: "The Great Chinese Firewall" (details about this system are given in the next chapter - author's comment) began to "be built" back in the 90s, therefore they got a lot of experience in limiting the dissemination of information. In the Western world - focusing on copyright issues, copyright. Russia inherited negative trends from both sides and decided to implement them on our soil. That is, we have anti-piracy laws that excessively restrict access to any information on their right; There are also laws on political censorship, although they are covered by the words "on countering extremist and terrorist activities", but in fact there is a restriction of access to opposition Internet resources, political statements, etc. There are laws just about blocking prohibited information, and categories of such information are added and added every quarter. Also, the number of state bodies that have the right to restrict access to Internet resources out of court is increasing. And yet the Internet remains the medium in which one can freely speak. Everyone can be convinced of this independently: the user will not be everywhere to ban, he also does not immediately fall under the watchful eye of state bodies. And yet, these laws work - they work selectively, but virtual "clubs" are brought over the heads of each of us. Everyone can get under this or that law enforcement of these laws. At least, this is not total, although litigation takes place daily for reposts, huskies, retweets, the publication of some cartoons, anecdotes, and screenshots of films that are not prohibited. The picture on all subjects of the Russian Federation is rather blurred, it is impossible to single out a particular region. " We have known since childhood about the opposites, as usual, attracted to each other, but often forget about it. It is time for us to realize that the unifying idea of the Internet has become differences in religious, political, flavor, historical, ideological and other spheres, and everything will immediately fall into place. Thousands of alternative versions of every event, millions of interpretations, countless guesses - a binder of the global online world. The space of information weightlessness is a fundamental idea, bringing this means of communication popularity and enabling long rapid growth. On the one hand, this state of affairs complicates the process of ideological tempering of the population of any country. On the other hand, the minus becomes a plus when using the same technologies: propaganda communities, web portals, blogs, etc. Appetite, unfortunately, comes with eating. |

Relatively recently, an activist from Naberezhnye Chelny, Rafis Kashapov, was sentenced to three years in prison for several posts in the social network \"VKontakte\". The convicted person posted on his page texts on political topics, where he unflatteringly spoke about the current administration of the Crimea peninsula and allowed comparison of the incumbent president of the Russian Federation with the notorious head of the NSDAP in the period from 1921 to 1945. A \"demotivator\" with sharp criticism of Russian foreign policy was also added to the case materials. It is noteworthy that after serving the main sentence, the convict does not have the right to use social networks for two years. The latter fact once again demonstrates the importance of the Internet and the impact of processes occurring in it on actions outside.\nThis is echoed by the process connected with the leader of the Progress Party (which was denied official registration in the territory of the Russian Federation) by Alexei Navalny. By his public and political activities Navalny goes far beyond the officially acceptable \"fork\" of criticism of the powers of the Russian Federation. For reference: in 2011, by joint efforts of Internet users and the international jury, the project \"RosPil\" received the award \"The most useful resource for society\" of the International competition of blogs and network communities The BOBs. The following year brought the project awards in the nominations \"Opening of the Year\" and \"Investor of the Year\" network Competition ROTOR, whose goal is to designate the most significant projects and figures of runet.\nHaving effectively used (and continuing to do this) modern means of communication, Navalny gained the image of the Russian Julian Assange, although their activities differ in many respects. Frankly speaking, the birth of Assange in the territory of the post-Soviet space is almost impossible, since \"abortion\" can happen at any stage of his life, and publicity this \"operation\" will not get so accurately (or the objective lens will turn 180 degrees so that we all know the \"truth\" ). But this lyrical digression, and we will be interested in the fact that since 2010 (when the project \"RosPil\" started) Navalny is being accused, witnessed, under investigation in a number of administrative, arbitration and criminal cases. In general, there is a joke in every joke.\n\"It's time to recognize access to the Internet as a human right. This means that acceptable access to the Web for all must be guaranteed, Internet traffic must be delivered without commercial or political discrimination and with respect for the protection and privacy of the web users and freedom, regardless of where they live ...\n... Like all powerful tools, the network can be used for good and evil. When you look at the web, you see humanity, some details are amazing, but some are horrible. You can not make everyone on the Internet a saint. But you can use the Internet for your own good. It's open to everyone, \"said Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of the HTTP protocol (thanks to his decision, we know the Internet the way it is).\nUndoubtedly, absolutely criminal intentions, which cause real harm to another person or organization, must be identified and committed to appropriate punishment. However, it happens that the measure of good deeds is lost, and the laws take the form of fighting against ideologically dangerous statements, ideas and appeals for the state. An expert in this field on the territory of Russia is the organization \"Roskomvoboda\". Her years of experience show that even the most negative scenarios of Internet activity can be implemented. On my question about the level of freedom of the user on the Internet, the founder and head of the movement Artem Kozlyuk gave a capacious and honest answer:\n\"At the moment the Internet is quite free. Although the last few years there is a tendency for him to become enslaved. Roughly speaking, in Asia it began to happen earlier: \"The Great Chinese Firewall\" (details about this system are given in the next chapter - author's comment) began to \"be built\" back in the 90s, therefore they got a lot of experience in limiting the dissemination of information. In the Western world - focusing on copyright issues, copyright. Russia inherited negative trends from both sides and decided to implement them on our soil. That is, we have anti-piracy laws that excessively restrict access to any information on their right; There are also laws on political censorship, although they are covered by the words \"on countering extremist and terrorist activities\", but in fact there is a restriction of access to opposition Internet resources, political statements, etc. And yet, these laws work - they work selectively, but virtual \"clubs\" are brought over the heads of each of us. \"\n We have known since childhood about the opposites, as usual, attracted to each other, but often forget about it. Appetite, unfortunately, comes with eating.",

The world is full of things that can be changed. More importantly, the world is full of things that need to be changed. As soon as I realized this, there was no turning back ", - the author of the next manifesto stated in one of his interviews. Aaron Schwartz - energetic dark-haired young guy, Internet activist, programmer, writer, IT-visionary and author of the "Partisan Manifesto". Before you get acquainted with another vision of the foundations of the Internet space, set out in 2008, it is worth to touch on the life path of its author. Co-author of the RSS 1.0 specification (at age 14), the creator of the Infogami service, which later merged with the news portal Reddit, and the co-founder of the movement against Internet censorship Demand Progress - is far from the full track record of this guy. "He fought incessantly and unselfishly for the movement of free culture" - a concise and precise description of Schwartz by Virginia Heffernan in Yahoo! News. Becoming older, Schwartz began to devote more time and energy to policy issues. What's the big online action "Tell the government why you're against SOPA"! Subsequently, Schwartz began to quickly gain influential supporters and never stinted on active action. By the way, Aaron spent a lot of time researching the level of corruption in the US among top-tier politicians. The rejection of the rules and doubts about everything that the majority takes as a reality led to the tragic events in his life. In 2011, a lawsuit was launched against Schwartz for downloading millions of documents (scientific articles) from the online library of JSTOR. The prosecution was supposed that in the future these files can be placed in free access. After some time, JSTOR refused to sue Schwartz, but the case was not closed by the US federal prosecutor, who stated: "Theft is theft, whether you used a computer or a scrap, you stole documents, data or dollars." For a number of articles, Schwartz was in danger of more than thirty years of imprisonment. In January 2013, before the court could make a guilty verdict, Schwartz committed suicide by hanging himself in his own apartment. "Information is power. But, as usually happens with the authorities, there are those who want to own it alone. All the world's scientific and cultural heritage, published over the centuries in a variety of books and journals, is rapidly being digitized and closed from the superfluous eyes of a handful of private corporations. Do you want to read about the most outstanding achievements of science? You will have to send huge sums to publishers like Reed Elsevier. But there are those who want to change this order. "Free access movement" bravely fought for the right of scientists not to give their intellectual property to corporations, but freely publish their work on the Internet. So anyone can get to them. But even if this scenario is implemented, it will only affect future works. Everything that was created before this moment will be lost. This is too high a price. Forcing scientists to pay money for reading the work of their colleagues? Do you want to scan whole libraries, but only allow them to read to Google staff? Provide scientific articles of elite universities in the countries of the first world, but not children from third world countries? This is outrageous and unacceptable. "I agree," say many, "but what can we do?" Companies own copyrights, and they earn huge money. And this is completely legal. We just can not stop them. " But still, we can do something. Something that is already being done: we can fight. People who have access to these resources - students, librarians, scientists - you have an advantage. You feed on this feast of knowledge while the rest of the world sits under lock and key. But you should not, or rather, you do not have the moral rights to leave this privilege only to yourself. Your duty is to share it with the world. And you do this, exchanging passwords with colleagues, filling out download requests for friends. | body |

The release of new social and political energy should lead to freedom of information and human choice. Only the user decides! And then four years later - in 1996 - the light saw the "Declaration of Independence of Cyberspace" by John Perry Barlow. A characteristic feature of the work is radical views that bring the idea of cryptoanarchism to the virtual civilization of Consciousness. From the first lines striking pomposity of the syllable, if you like, the prohibitive degree of pathos. All this speaks for a strong emotional foundation, and for this there were prerequisites. The World Economic Forum in Davos and the attempt by the US Congress to adopt the law "On the Decency of Communications", which regulates the dissemination of pornography and other unfavorable information on the Internet, are factors that play a decisive role in limiting Barlow's freedom. As a result, we see a pretentious manifesto calling on users to change their outlook and act as builders of a new society. "Governments of the Industrial World, you are weary giants of flesh and steel; My homeland is Cyberspace, the new home of Consciousness. On behalf of the future, I ask you, who have everything in the past, - leave us alone. You are superfluous among us. You do not have supreme authority where we are gathered. We did not elect a government, and it is unlikely that we will ever have it, so I appeal to you, having power not greater than that with which freedom itself speaks. I declare that the global public space that we are building, by its nature, regardless of the tyranny that you seek to impose on us. You have no moral right to rule over us, no coercive methods that really could frighten us. The true strength of governments is the consent of those whom they rule. You did not ask for or receive our consent. We did not invite you. You do not know either us or our world. Cyberspace lies beyond your borders. Do not think that you can build it, as if it were an object of state building. You are not capable of this. Cyberspace is a matter of nature and grows by itself through our collective actions. You are not involved in our great and ever-expanding conversation; Do not you create the wealth of our markets. You do not know our culture, our ethics and unwritten laws, which already provide our society with more order than one that can be achieved by your punishments and bans. You state that we have problems that you must solve. You use this statement as an excuse for invading our lands. Many of these problems do not exist. Wherever there are real conflicts and shortcomings, we will identify and eliminate them by our own means. We establish our own Public Contract. This way of government will arise according to our conditions, not your world. Our world is different. Cyberspace consists of interactions and relationships, thinks and builds itself like a standing wave in the intertwining of our communications. Our world is everywhere and nowhere, but not where our bodies live. We create a world in which all can enter without privileges and discrimination, regardless of skin color, economic or military might and place of birth. We create a world in which anyone, anywhere, can express their opinions, no matter how extravagant they may be, without fear that he or she will be forced to silence or to agree with the opinion of the majority. Your legal notions of property, expression, personality, movement and context are inapplicable to us. They are based on matter - there is no matter here. Our personalities do not have bodies, therefore, unlike you, we can not achieve order through physical coercion. We believe that our way of government will arise on the basis of ethics, enlightened selfishness and the common good. Our people can cover much that is in your jurisdiction. The only law that is recognized by virtually all of the included cultures is the Golden Rule. We hope that we will be able to find private solutions based on this general principle. But we can not make decisions that you are trying to impose. Now you have created in the United States a law - the Telecommunications Reform Act - that rejects your own constitution and offends the dreams of Jefferson, Washington, Mill, Madison, de Tocqueville and Brandes. These dreams must now be born again in us. You are horrified at your own children, because they feel at home in a world in which you will always be immigrants. Since you are afraid of them, you are cowardly shifting their parental responsibilities to a bureaucratic apparatus. In our world, all feelings and sayings, from the lowest to the angelic, are parts of a single whole - a global conversation in bits. We can not separate the air that suffocates, from the air, over which the wings beat. In China, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Italy and the United States, you are trying to establish information quarantine in order to prevent the spread of the free-thinking virus by erecting outposts on the borders of Cyberspace. These measures can contain the epidemic for a while, but in a world that will soon be covered by communication media carrying bits, they will not work. Your increasingly aging information industry would like to perpetuate its dominance by enacting laws - both in America and elsewhere - requiring ownership of the speech itself throughout the world. These laws proclaim that ideas are just another industrial product, noble no more than cast-iron chutes. In our own world, everything that the human mind can create, can be reproduced and spread to infinity without any payment. For a global transfer of thought, your plants are no longer required. These increasingly hostile colonial measures put us in a situation in which the adherents of freedom and self-determination, who were forced to reject the authority of a remote, uniform power, appeared in their time. We must proclaim the freedom of our virtual "I" from your dominion, even if we agree that you continue to rule over our bodies. We will spread our "I" on the whole planet so that no one can arrest our thoughts. We will create in Cyberspace a civilization of Consciousness. "body": "

\nThe release of new social and political energy should lead to freedom of information and human choice. Only the user decides! And then four years later - in 1996 - the light saw the \"Declaration of Independence of Cyberspace\" by John Perry Barlow. The World Economic Forum in Davos and the attempt by the US Congress to adopt the law \"On the Decency of Communications\", which regulates the dissemination of pornography and other unfavorable information on the Internet, are factors that play a decisive role in limiting Barlow's freedom. As a result, we see a pretentious manifesto calling on users to change their outlook and act as builders of a new society.\n\"Governments of the Industrial World, you are weary giants of flesh and steel; My homeland is Cyberspace, the new home of Consciousness. You have no moral right to rule over us, no coercive methods that really could frighten us.\nThe true strength of governments is the consent of those whom they rule. You did not ask for or receive our consent. We did not invite you. You do not know either us or our world. Cyberspace lies beyond your borders. Do not think that you can build it, as if it were an object of state building. You are not capable of this. Cyberspace is a matter of nature and grows by itself through our collective actions.\nYou are not involved in our great and ever-expanding conversation; Do not you create the wealth of our markets. Our world is different.\nCyberspace consists of interactions and relationships, thinks and builds itself like a standing wave in the intertwining of our communications. Our world is everywhere and nowhere, but not where our bodies live. We create a world in which all can enter without privileges and discrimination, regardless of skin color, economic or military might and place of birth. | body |

Utopia

Utopian ideas never left the minds of mankind. Search and experiment to create a better society - why be shy, a better world! - do not stop to this day. It is naive to believe that only the thirst for self-interest drives the person - on the contrary, in each of us there lives a child who aspires to embody the idea from the Strugatsky brothers' "Picnic on the Roadside:" "Happiness for all, for nothing, and let no one go offended." Over the years, we forget about it, allowing "realism" and "common sense" to suppress such wonderful thoughts. Only units lack enthusiasm and will power to declare their intentions, even less translates plans into life, forever changing the public outlook. The Internet space quickly acquired a pleiad of such personalities who loudly announced the prospects and the vector of the development of the Network. I dedicate this chapter to them. Shards of their ideas were formed into manifestos - in many respects similar and complementing each other. This once again confirms the expectations of the then still small Internet community, who saw almost the boundless possibilities of the new era. I will give three manifestos. Whether you will see in them the Internet today is not sure, but what is beyond doubt - will receive a powerful energy charge. In order to trace the dynamics of changes, I bring the manifestos in the chronological order of their publication. The authorship of the first text belongs to one of the leading engineers of Intel Timothy May. May - one of the creators and the most active participant in the electronic mailing of the nineties "Cuberpunckers". Then he published many essays on cryptography, but the most popular was his "Manifesto of Cryptoanarchism." Utopianism and the revolutionary spirit of work cause an indulgent smile, but the appearance of such a text in 1992 is a sign of the existence of many residents of the Network of ambitions - political and social ambitions. Let's get acquainted with the full text of this work. "The specter is haunting the modern world, the ghost of cryptoanarchy. Computer technologies are on the verge of enabling individuals and groups to communicate and interact absolutely anonymously. Two people will be able to exchange messages, engage in business, enter into electronic contracts, not being able to establish True Names, each other's identities. Interaction in the Network will not be tracked due to multiple changes in the routes of encrypted packets and prevent blocks that give cryptographic protocols almost perfect protection. Reputation will be of paramount importance when concluding transactions, much greater than now has a credit rating. These innovations will completely change the nature of state regulation, the ability to levy taxes and monitor relations in the economy, the ability to store information in secret; Even the notions of trust and reputation will change their essence. Technology for such a revolution - and this revolution will definitely be both social and economic - was theoretically developed in the past decade. Its methods are based on the use of public keys, authentication systems based on evidence with zero disclosure and a variety of software protocols designed for interaction, authentication and verification. To this day, the focus was on academic conferences in Europe and the US, conferences, closely watched by the National Security Agency. But only recently computer networks and personal computers have acquired the speed, sufficient for the practical implementation of these ideas. And in the next decade the speed will increase even more, in order to make these ideas economically feasible and irreversible. The state, obviously fearing social disintegration, will try to slow or stop the spread of such technologies, citing national security considerations, the use of these technologies by drug dealers and tax evaders. Any of these considerations will be justified: cryptoanarchy will allow free trade in national secrets, as well as illegal drugs and stolen goods. An anonymous computerized market will make it possible even to create a heinous market for contract killings and extortions. Criminal elements and foreigners will become active users of CryptoNet. But this will not stop cryptoanarchy. Just as the technology of printing has changed the social structure and reduced the power of medieval guilds, cryptographic methods will fundamentally change the corporations and the role of the state in economic transactions. In combination with the emerging information markets, cryptoanarchy will create a liquid market for any materials that can be represented as words or images. Like the seeming minor invention of barbed wire, which allowed to enclose huge ranches and farms and thus permanently changed the notion of land and property rights in the western states, the "minor" discovery of the "dark side" of mathematics became nippers, cutting barbed wire around intellectual property. Act, for you have nothing to lose, except these hedges of barbed wire! | title | #2 The BlackList: Revolution |
| body |

Part 1. Tribune

Revolution

Hardly you will meet in history a century that did not see the revolution: did not feel its taste and was not uncontrollably drunk with the stupidity of its ideas. Romance, freedom, heroism, rebirth - everyone finds it in their own. An amazing thing, a revolution gives a person everything and nothing concrete. That's her secret. The experience of the centuries only rarely endowed the revolution with a kind word and good intent. Conflicts, bloodshed, economic and political instability, tightly tightening belts and a social storm are the basis of a mass view of every revolutionary event. Is this the fresh wind that inflames the hearts of an all-consuming flame, or something else? Sometimes we forget about the essence of the revolution - about the leap, the qualitatively different level where it happened. Imagine that you are bored to overcome the step by step. You sat down crouched and pushed away: a jump, a moment of weightlessness, a blow to your feet. It would seem a simple action. And if you weigh one hundred and fifty kilograms and you are seventy years old? An impossible task. So in life, where weight is the experience gained, and age is years of habitual stability. I can not help but mention the youth that bears the revolutionary banner through the ages. "Weight" and "age" allow you to jump as much as you want. But back to the jump. You jumped over several steps of a steep staircase - you were out of breath, you might have slipped and fell, but now you probably know that you can overcome this distance not only by the usual "step by step". This is just an example, the reality is much more complicated, because many things are possible: from the disappearance of the next step or the whole ladder to the fading in the air. I hope you understand what I mean. As a result, very few people are ready for such "jumps", however, it is precisely these "madmen" that are not only able to change their lives. The emergence of the Internet revolutionized the field of information and communication technologies. Without a single shot, and a drop of human blood was not destined to fall on its barricades. And the barricade as such was not. To date, hundreds of books have been written about the birth of the Web, thousands of articles have been published, and many fascinating documentary films have been filmed. Most of them step by step, taking into account the smallest details, examines the formation and spread of innovative space - the World Wide Web. I regret to state: it is hardly worthy to present this process more worthy than the existing material or the one that will be published in the near future. However, ignoring this subject is ignorant in the framework of our story. I will try to do everything possible to make the further narration as concise as possible. Opponents of historical fast food can safely skip the next two paragraphs. In 1957, in response to the launch of the Soviet Union's first artificial Earth satellite, the US Department of Defense was interested in the idea of reliable data transmission. The US Advanced Defense Research and Development Agency (DARPA) initiated the development of a computer network, entrusting the project with the University of California at Los Angeles, the Stanford Research Center, the University of Utah and the University of California in Santa Barbara. Soon the network was called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) and after 12 years connected all the mentioned scientific institutions. The technology, funded by the US Department of Defense, began to work for the benefit of various fields of science. Breakthrough of the new "Columbus" took place, giving almost probable opportunities for the development of the "newborn" space. The next marker on the time line was the first program to send e-mail, followed by 1971, which forever approved the network as an international one, combining organizations from the UK and Norway with a transatlantic telephone cable. Then, for obvious reasons, it was reckless to call such an undertaking "space", but the technology quickly evolved, acquiring familiar forms now. It is difficult to believe in the abundance of technologies that have firmly settled in modern life, having overcome once the forces of a limited circle. Suffice it to recall the ubiquitous microwave ovens, GPS-navigators and Teflon pans. The Internet was no exception. At an early stage of its development, it was a new technology for transferring, protecting and processing data from the military and scientific fields of activity - nothing more. Today, it surprises with the limited initial designs, because then humanity entered a new era - the era of information and communication technologies. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) noted that Internet users in 2000 were 400 million people worldwide - 6.5% of the world's population. After 14 years, according to the company We Are Social, "population" of the Internet space was 3.01 billion users. Further - 3.2 billion people (43% of the world's population) by the end of 2015 (according to ITU). This will sound a little ominous, but in 1960 the population of the planet was about the same. In general, it is worth pondering. In the meantime, ITU echoes the world's largest social network Facebook, but these figures are presented to them in a different light. Like someone who sees a half full or empty glass, Facebook pays attention to potential users - the population "offline" (while offline). Their fear is the rapid decline in the percentage of "converts" to users of the World Wide Web over the past four years: from 14.7% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2014. Facebook notes that, at such a rate, the expectation of the next billionth anniversary may drag on five years. However, pessimism in their case is exaggerated, since a significant level of Internet penetration provides a rapidly developing tandem "smartphone - mobile operator". Given the current level of mobile technology, it is not surprising that the smartphone for many became the first access device on the Web, pushing the stationary computers and laptops off the pedestal. What are the results of the above? The level of availability of the Internet is steadily increasing, allowing to be "in a connection" in the most remote parts of the Earth, and the increase in the data transfer rate makes it possible to receive and process large amounts of valuable information. So, we pay tribute to all those involved in the implementation and popularization of the World Wide Web and move on. Now let's talk about the consequences of "injecting" Internet technologies into everyday life. In spite of the fact that television remains the most consumed media, one can not speak about its inviolability - on the second place the Internet has firmly entrenched itself. A serious result, given the half-century difference in technology - in favor of television, of course. According to the latest data from the agency We Are Social, on average, an Internet user spends 4.4 hours in the virtual space using a personal computer, and 1.7 hours from mobile devices. 2.4 hours from the total mass of the user spends on all sorts of social networks. And all this, friends, is just the beginning. The results of the research conducted by the American company GfK regarding the time of Internet use by teenagers aged 13 to 17 showed an increase of 37% since 2012. Results in hours - more than 4 per day for each teenager. It is also interesting that the statistics of the time spent on the web are unchanged for users aged 18 and over. In general, the figures again explained a lot, but let's finish this strict monologue with this paragraph. I often use the expression "Internet space", because, due to its current universality, it's not serious to call it the Web or the Network (although I do it too). To all else, if we consider the concept of space in detail, we will get something like the following. The space is the arena of events or actions, including all places, objects and structures. The user takes part in interesting events, acts as the initiator or coordinator of a certain process. Do television, radio or newspapers give such privileges? Even physical reality can not be proud of some of the achievements of the Internet. One-way information model is quickly boring. Universal interactivity is the "delicacy" of modern man. The current world order is delineated by the precise borders of states (sometimes doubting), adequately protected by military alliances, strictly protected by personal legislation, censorship, lobbyist campaigns and personalities. And the Internet? His space in this context is still the most free, but because - very attractive. Yuri Nesterov, deputy chairman of the Duma Committee for Information Policy and Communications of the Russian Federation, as well as one of the associates of the Internet, stated at the parliamentary hearings on the latter: "All democratic achievements of the last decade are connected with information. Curtains first collapsed, and millions of people learned about what they did not know, and then they had the will to some historical changes in our country. And if we want to preserve the democratic potential ... of millions of our compatriots, we must ensure freedom of information exchange. "With a wise eye and endless enthusiasm, we proudly declare our regalia on the Web, eliminating uncomfortable" titles ". We are allowed not to waste time on acceptable words and not to comply with political correctness - the boundaries are erased. This space accepts all and all. Personal laws and regulations can operate here. We do not have to worry about much, more is not forbidden, which means that a lot of real social processes are cleverly transferred to the virtual world, acquiring hitherto unprecedented forms. Tribune

\n

Revolution

\nHardly you will meet in history a century that did not see the revolution: did not feel its taste and was not uncontrollably drunk with the stupidity of its ideas. Is this the fresh wind that inflames the hearts of an all-consuming flame, or something else?\nSometimes we forget about the essence of the revolution - about the leap, the qualitatively different level where it happened. \"Weight\" and \"age\" allow you to jump as much as you want. But back to the jump. You jumped over several steps of a steep staircase - you were out of breath, you might have slipped and fell, but now you probably know that you can overcome this distance not only by the usual \"step by step\". This is just an example, the reality is much more complicated, because many things are possible: from the disappearance of the next step or the whole ladder to the fading in the air. I hope you understand what I mean. As a result, very few people are ready for such \"jumps\", however, it is precisely these \"madmen\" that are not only able to change their lives.\nThe emergence of the Internet revolutionized the field of information and communication technologies. Opponents of historical fast food can safely skip the next two paragraphs.\nIn 1957, in response to the launch of the Soviet Union's first artificial Earth satellite, the US Department of Defense was interested in the idea of reliable data transmission. Breakthrough of the new \"Columbus\" took place, giving almost probable opportunities for the development of the \"newborn\" space. The next marker on the time line was the first program to send e-mail, followed by 1971, which forever approved the network as an international one, combining organizations from the UK and Norway with a transatlantic telephone cable. Then, for obvious reasons, it was reckless to call such an undertaking \"space\", but the technology quickly evolved, acquiring familiar forms now.\nIt is difficult to believe in the abundance of technologies that have firmly settled in modern life, having overcome once the forces of a limited circle. Suffice it to recall the ubiquitous microwave ovens, GPS-navigators and Teflon pans. The Internet was no exception. At an early stage of its development, it was a new technology for transferring, protecting and processing data from the military and scientific fields of activity - nothing more. Today, it surprises with the limited initial designs, because then humanity entered a new era - the era of information and communication technologies.\nThe International Telecommunication Union (ITU) noted that Internet users in 2000 were 400 million people worldwide - 6.5% of the world's population. After 14 years, according to the company We Are Social, \"population\" of the Internet space was 3.01 billion users. Further - 3.2 billion people (43% of the world's population) by the end of 2015 (according to ITU). | title | #1 The BlackList: A Brief History of Battles over the Internet. First words about book. |
| body |

There’s something really beautiful about the global network. It is a tool that can take on many forms depending on whose hands it falls into. It’s both a tool and environment, creating a sea of opportunities. And we (at RosKomSvoboda – author’s note) are staunch advocates of freedom when it comes to developing this environment. Up until 2011-2012, the Network had been developing through self-regulation, and it was this very principle (which implied government non-intervention in the evolution of network infrastructure) that helped land Internet projects, Internet commerce and Internet industry in general. Thanks to this approach, Russia was able to provide a significant counterweight to foreign services, since few search engines elsewhere in the world are able to compete with Google. In our case it is Yandex. The online social media and social networking service VK is competing with Facebook. However, on a global level such cases are not quite common. It was the fact that the Russian government did not intervene in the network’s growth that actually led to the emergence of these services. The market became free, efficient and self-regulated. Unfortunately, at a certain point, things began to go downhill. Artem Kozluk, the head of RosKomSvoboda. An excerpt from the interview, given to the author Some ten years previously, the government didn’t really pay much attention to the Internet, and we were trying to attract the people’s attention. Today, I realize we shouldn’t have done that. Life would have been much easier for us, since at some point the government decided to tap into the benefits of the Network. Among the initiatives proposed was an idea of creating a transparent government. Later, they realized that the country’s citizens use the Internet too. Then, they began to exert pressure on the people using the good old methods – like implementing a countless of prohibiting laws. Therefore, traffic control will always be in trend. Should they want to, they will control everything. However, there are ways to avoid this scrutiny. Of course, they are taking measures to curb that. Just look at what happened to RosKomSvoboda’s site, which listed ways to evade such scrutiny: the site was eventually blocked. Then again, such methods are more or less known to those, who realize where this may be leading to. And those, who paid no interest to the issue, will probably become victims of a new order. Ivan Pavlov, head of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information. Rosbalt. “Runet will be scrutinized in an event of war”. February 12, 2016 They, who can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Benjamin Franklin

Innocence

Today, much of what I remember about the Internet and its users, despite the fact that these memories harken back to about a decade from now, might seem not only amusing, but strange. It’s odd, isn’t it, to wake up on a day-off at five in the morning to download a new song and wait anxiously for the download to complete some twenty minutes later. Or think of those packages which gave access to the Internet during night hours at reduced rates. It so happened, that my personal growth coincided with the rising popularity of the Internet, and we matured together, so to speak. That’s why I had always been exploring its opportunities, phenomena and logic with never-ceasing enthusiasm. Some of my findings became the focus of this book. Success of any endeavor pretty much depends on a single factor. I’m talking about putting the correct emphasis. This is true for all things, be it a good crescendo in a melody, an accurate image in a painting or a shrewd phrase in a book – the things we so deeply love and that will stay with us until the end of our lives. I on the other hand want to admit otherwise. The emphasis of my book has been shifted more than once, at times taking such a break from the agenda that it would almost become secondary. That’s why I would ask anyone, who fears uncertainty or relies only on their succinct conclusions, to put this book aside until better times. This is not a case of my showing off or some kind of cheap decoy. It’s not all that simple. The way we interpret events today can differ drastically from whatever conclusions we make tomorrow. As of now, we can freely talk about reasons behind wars, the changes they brought to the world order or the number of people died fighting on opposite sides. The impact of events, still happening today, can hardly be measured because their implications and real scope are unclear. It’s not always easy for us, humans, to make accurate assumptions either. Making long term weather forecasts is a good example of that. To say I can predict a coherent outcome of the history of the Internet and freedom of speech online, important decisions, which propelled the creation of today’s Network, and, once and for all, deal with a complex “maze” of definitions and logic – would be to lie to myself and to my Readers, and that’s the last thing I feel like doing. That is why I urge you to take my warning very seriously. It is hard to believe today, but when I began working on my book, I was absolutely sure that I would stay away from sensitive topics. Publishing a book at a time, when every single action of yours may have a political underlining, even if it isn’t true, compels you to treat the text differently. In the end, my narrative became filled with acid sarcasm toward certain politicians, draft laws and decisions, which affect the lives of many Internet-users across the world. There is nothing more treacherous and deceitful than telling the Readers the things they want to hear. That’s why I feel it’s my duty to introduce you to the signature features of the book. Politics Politics is the major focus of the book. After all, this topic, raised quite frequently here, is part of an unwritten list of the most controversial topics. And believe me, you’ll find quite a lot of controversies here. I couldn’t help but mention a story of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and his political persecution; a multilayered Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as well as a “turf war” these countries entered into. Facts The facts I used, which are in free access on the Internet, were lifted from online media publications, encyclopedias and other resources. Thanks to them, I was able to start working on my book, and there were almost no barriers to gaining and collecting information. Originality Despite all “mysteries”, “secrets” and other “breaking news”, the facts and sources mentioned in my book do not purport to be unique, yet it’s my own approach in putting the facts together that makes my narrative one-of-a-kind. Attitudes Any book is a combination of its author’s beliefs, and no one can ever take that away. Obviously, you don’t have to agree with everything I say, however, everyone will only benefit from that. I free myself from having to bombard you with excessive evidence, and you – from any obligations that may follow. Here’s one more thing: the Readers may be tempted to think that I belong to one of the many existing political societies. Sorry to disappoint you (hopefully, it is the first and last time I’ve done that), but there’s no way I would become a member of “parties” or “movements” of any kind. To me, such “congregations” of people hold no true value, while pushing a certain idea isn’t really my thing either. I prefer to process my thoughts when I’m on my own: it’s easier, and, eventually, you can always release these thoughts whatever is going to happen next. Contrary to extended discourse and scrutiny to lots of details, when writing this book I did my best to make the narrative – accessible and easy-to-read. Because of this, it may seem that the book asks more questions than it gives answers. This approach did not only become the book’s signature feature but, hopefully, an advantage too. I am also very pleased not to have overburdened you with my own findings and conclusions. Trust no one, think with your head, and double-check all the facts! |

That is why I urge you to take my warning very seriously.\nIt is hard to believe today, but when I began working on my book, I was absolutely sure that I would stay away from sensitive topics. Publishing a book at a time, when every single action of yours may have a political underlining, even if it isn’t true, compels you to treat the text differently. In the end, my narrative became filled with acid sarcasm toward certain politicians, draft laws and decisions, which affect the lives of many Internet-users across the world.\nThere is nothing more treacherous and deceitful than telling the Readers the things they want to hear. That’s why I feel it’s my duty to introduce you to the signature features of the book. \nPolitics\nPolitics is the major focus of the book. After all, this topic, raised quite frequently here, is part of an unwritten list of the most controversial topics. And believe me, you’ll find quite a lot of controversies here. I couldn’t help but mention a story of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and his political persecution; a multilayered Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as well as a “turf war” these countries entered into.\nFacts\nThe facts I used, which are in free access on the Internet, were lifted from online media publications, encyclopedias and other resources. Thanks to them, I was able to start working on my book, and there were almost no barriers to gaining and collecting information.\nOriginality\nDespite all “mysteries”, “secrets” and other “breaking news”, the facts and sources mentioned in my book do not purport to be unique, yet it’s my own approach in putting the facts together that makes my narrative one-of-a-kind.\nAttitudes\nAny book is a combination of its author’s beliefs, and no one can ever take that away. Obviously, you don’t have to agree with everything I say, however, everyone will only benefit from that. I free myself from having to bombard you with excessive evidence, and you – from any obligations that may follow.\nHere’s one more thing: the Readers may be tempted to think that I belong to one of the many existing political societies. Sorry to disappoint you (hopefully, it is the first and last time I’ve done that), but there’s no way I would become a member of “parties” or “movements” of any kind. To me, such “congregations” of people hold no true value, while pushing a certain idea isn’t really my thing either. I prefer to process my thoughts when I’m on my own: it’s easier, and, eventually, you can always release these thoughts whatever is going to happen next.\nContrary to extended discourse and scrutiny to lots of details, when writing this book I did my best to make the narrative – accessible and easy-to-read. Because of this, it may seem that the book asks more questions than it gives answers. This approach did not only become the book’s signature feature but, hopefully, an advantage too. I am also very pleased not to have overburdened you with my own findings and conclusions.\nTrust no one, think with your head, and double-check all the facts!",

| body |

Eric Schmidt, Jared Cohen. The New Digital Age: Transforming Nations, Businesses, and Our Lives. Wrapping the reader of modern and future society, the authors present their view of the global challenges that mankind will face in the information age. Despite the contradictory feelings from reading, a worthy alternative to the work of Jared Cohen and Eric Schmidt is a surprise not to remember. The main expectation, which was not destined to come true, is the abundance of facts. Despite access to the results of global research and experiments, they are not exactly abused in the book. There are several obvious reasons for this: colossal experience in a high-tech company and a significant social status. Eric Schmidt - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Google, which came in 2001. From 2001 to 2011, he was CEO of Google and coordinated the technical and business strategy of the company together with its founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Jared Cohen is the founder and director of the Google Ideas Science Center; Rhodes Scholarship, Oxford University; Author of "Children of Jihad" and "One Hundred Days of Silence", as well as articles in Foreign Affairs, Police Review, SAIS Review, Hoover Digest, The Washington Post and The International Herald Tribune. In view of the above, the "New Digital World" a priori can not be boring or poor on new ideas work. Yes, sometimes the narrative resembles the transcript of conversation of professionals on the topic "How it will be next", and many thoughts (mainly in the final part) are not disclosed at all. Everything becomes quite different when you perceive the book not as a bone for the hungry for new knowledge of the mind, but as an extensive list of ideas for new and deeper research. Tim Wu. The Master Switch: The Rise and Fall of Information Empires. "The main switch" - the most controversial work on the Internet from all that came into contact with my ideas about the development of the Network. Until recently, I did not want to talk about this book; And also agonizing was the expectation of its completion. After a while, understanding came about: Tim Woo came closest to understanding the prospects of online society. But! The form of the story will not be liked by everyone. The experience of a law professor at Columbia University tells Wu: a literate student will not take the first words to believe everything he has heard. The latter is peculiar to rely on facts, and not on the personal experience of the teacher. Sometimes monotonously - fact after fact, history behind history, - Tim Wu brings the reader to the fact that the Internet can comprehend the fate of radio, television and film production. Events related to the formation of the above-mentioned industries are allotted about 90% of the entire text. Contrary to this, the "Main Switch" is a book solely about the Web. According to Tim Wu, any technology passes the "Cycle", which includes the monopoly of some organization, regulation and censorship as long as the process of its development is not fixed (if this word is generally suitable for our time). In the dry residue: a complex and multi-level narrative with hundreds of tightly intertwined events and facts. Julian Assange. The Unauthorised Autobiography. "Unauthorized autobiography" Julian Assange is like a confident fiction with a story about the ordeals of an incorrigible idealist, revolutionary and discoverer. Understanding, all this sounds somewhat pompous ... Under the syllable of the book! The line about the childhood, adolescence and youth of Assange is given to him with special difficulty - this can not be overlooked. It is this part - without a false exaggeration - that represents the main interest. The narrative about the publication of the Afghan dossier, the killings of reporters and civilians in Iraq, and cooperation with Brigitte Jostoddir (the main sensational pirate party in Iceland) - became public in numerous articles and reviews, leaving the author in the vast shadow of his work. Thanks to the "Unauthorized autobiography", we finally get rid of the notion of Assange as a result of his publications. From this work it becomes clear which events and personalities of the past have shaped the worldview of such an unusual fighter for the freedom of information dissemination. For all the time of reading, I was not left with the feeling of talking with a teenager looking at the world with a different eye, not recognizing the authorities, and most importantly - creating an amazing space around him. This space was his main child - the Wikileaks project, which united tens of thousands of those who are trying to understand the essence of the events without the nauseating slogans and speeches of the establishment, as well as the half-truths of the military leadership. In the shadow of provocative publications, there seems to be an inexhaustible source of free thought, philanthropy and love of truth. Remaining faithful to himself Assange at the last moment breaks the contract with the publisher to publish the manuscript, referring to her intimacy and frankness. Realizing the risk, the publisher decided to publish the text, referring to it as an "Unauthorized autobiography." |

| title | Main Books About Big Data, Piracy and Internet Surveillance |
| body |

History proves that humanity lives in a permanent struggle for resources. And if the division of natural resources and territories is more or less clear (military campaigns, diplomatic work, economic sanctions), then in the struggle for information and the means of its transfer-anything can be expected. Today, all parties concerned declare an unconditional right to the Internet: from users to the state. And only awareness becomes an advantage at this time. Taking as a basis the main trends of the past year, I managed to compile a short list of books ready to help us understand the essence of many online events. The first "must read" compilation included books about "Big Data", digital piracy and the embodiment of the idea of total surveillance. Read, think, double-check! Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think The era of global information flows does not cease to excite their contemporaries revolutions. One of them - beyond any doubt - was the idea of Big Data: the accumulation, storage, analysis, retrieval of re-gain and resale of information from consumers around the world. And here there is no difference: you are an active user of online stores or just communicate with friends on social networks. For Big Data, everything is important! Just imagine how much information - search queries, likes, tweets, applications in the smartphone, etc. - is a virtual portrait of the Internet user. "Google processes more petabytes of data per day - this is about 100 times more than all printed materials of the Library of Congress. Facebook - a company that was not in sight a decade ago - can boast of more than 10 million downloads of new photos every hour. People click the "Like" button or write comments almost three billion times a day, leaving a digital footprint with which the company studies user preferences. " Fortunately for the reader, the authors did not reduce the work to a description of the technical and procedural components. Their attention hangs on today's everyday life, tactfully indicating: "this is the result of the analysis of Big Data", "and here they have moved to a new level, starting to collect global information about customers." "Previously, it was well known that it refers to personal information: names, social security numbers, identification codes, etc. Protecting such information was relatively easy, blocking it. Today, even with the most innocuous data, if they accumulate a lot, you can establish the identity. Attempts to give data anonymous form or to hide them are already ineffective. " Not without futurology. Taking into account the constant increase in the accuracy of forecasts based on "Big Data", the authors consider a scenario in which law enforcement agencies will foresee crimes and react to it in advance, thus turning the current ideas about the freedom of choice of a person. By the way, the Los Angeles police have been using a system of "proactive law enforcement" for several years now - an algorithm that analyzes data on crimes over decades and predicts the location of the next crime. Is it good or bad? Watch online changes and come to personal conclusions. Fortunately, there is enough material for this. The book is full of examples of using "Big Data" and correctly distributed statistical information. Knowing the need to balance, the authors present an exciting and important work that includes the past, present and future of mankind in the information world. P.S. Under statements about the need for the state to dispose of large data of the population, the book becomes even more urgent. Darren Todd. Pirate Nation: How Digital Piracy Is Transforming Business, Society and Culture There will always be something underestimated in the world: problems, discoveries, ideas ... The copyright reform will necessarily include them (unless, of course, intentional blindness in this matter is overcome in the near future). Read the news about the notification of the 86-year-old woman of Ontario about the penalty of $ 5,000 for downloading the game Metro 2033? Yes, this is not a rally, but an "adequate" reaction to copyright infringement! Just as a child changes his wardrobe as he grows up, legislation in the digital age must correspond to reality. Today, mankind - without all sorts of divisions - seems like a mature man in children's clothes. We have learned how to create high-precision techniques and change DNA, but laws and norms that should contribute to progress have ceased to work. And sometimes - create only unreasonable obstacles. "In our time pretending that you never violate copyrights - it's like in the Victorian era pretend that you never do masturbation." Darren Todd offers a detailed understanding of copyright issues and the following piracy. From the name it appears that the absurd and protracted war of the right-holders with "pirates" has its fruits, but the price of these battles is unpleasant. Andrei Soldatov, Irina Borogan. The Red Web: The Struggle Between Russia’s Digital Dictators and the New Online Revolutionaries Most recently the publishing house Alpina Pablisher has pleased readers with the book "Battle for the Runet". For me, this event has become more a "black swan", rather than a natural reaction to the changes in recent years in the Internet space. It's not a secret, the publication of a text that snaps the power on the nose, with the current political reality of Russian reality, is practically impossible. Therefore, until the last moment I did not believe that I could do without the English version of "The Battle" - "The Red Web" (published six months earlier in the US). Being professionals of journalism, Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan offer us a dense, eventful and personalized investigation. Yes, it is the investigation. Crime against the mystery of private life - according to the version of "The Red Web" - originates from the time of close attention of the authorities to the field of information and communication technologies. In particular, the authors begin the narration from the Soviet era, talking about the technologies and systems developed to listen to telephone conversations. Further - narrated on the solid thread of time about events and personalities that contributed to the fact that the legacy of that time - adapted to new conditions - became the basis for mass surveillance today. Separate attention is given to the block about the Olympics in Sochi, and the accompanying technological tricks for mass surveillance: from fans to representatives of the anti-doping agency WADA. Not being a fan of sports, the theme of preparing and holding the next show did not attract my attention. And in vain! The story told by the authors, I confess, became for me a real discovery, and for the authorities - a training base for technologies of universal control. Not a reproach to the authors, but in the "The Red Web" I did not have enough runet. I dare to assume that the text was considered a springboard for public organizations, journalists, active Internet users and other writers operating in the face of changing online space. |

| body |

Recently, I was fascinated by knowledge about the work of the brain. Frankly speaking, there are countless books on this subject: from "heavy" professional works, to frank paper, which leaves no positive "information sludge". In this simple way, a personal collection was organized, of which some books I want to share my impressions. This post will take for - running far ahead - the most interesting book of Norman Joyce "Plasticity of the brain." Before reading the book, I was tormented by vague doubts about the category of "read - do not read", because the Russian-language edition (in my humble opinion) had an indefinite, even overly jocular cover. Yes, yes, they meet on clothes. A pink cover with a formless thing (such, by the way, the characters often and densely met me in old newspapers in a humorous section), rolling out a rolling pin someone's workout brain, for a long time delayed the moment of acquaintance with the material. With skepticism and coffee, I opened the first page of the book. Again hurried events: with the first pages of skepticism evaporated, leaving space for children's curiosity - such books are worth a lot. The main feature of this work is a detailed narrative about the scientific path of individuals, thanks to which the principles of plasticity of the brain have found actual confirmation. By the way: many authors forget about the latter, shifting the emphasis towards research and figures, and the researcher - like a soulless dummy - is and is okay. Recently, this is the first book in which the balance between data on the experimenters and the subject of their activities is observed. I will not begin to admire the simplicity of the narrative, since the book was originally imprisoned for a wide audience, it immediately feels. I will say only: everyone will find not only answers to many questions related to the peculiarities of the work of the brain, but also get acquainted with its fundamental principles of action. I will give a modest fragment of the narrative: "Pain is the brain's conclusion about the state of health of the body, and not just a reflexive reaction to bodily harm." Before starting the mechanism of pain, the brain collects information from a variety of sources. Ramachandran also says that "pain is an illusion" and that "our brain is a mechanism for producing a virtual reality" that knows the world indirectly and processes information about it from a distance, creating a model in our head. Thus, pain, just like the image of the body, is the creation of our brain. " The rest - learn from the book. Get a batch of invigorating conclusions and new questions. "Plastichnost" Norman Joyce methodically rubs into a thin thread a massive wall between "obvious" material and "intangible" immaterial. To comprehend this "change in values" is extremely difficult, and living with such knowledge is amazing! The book makes a leap "back to the future", returning the Reader to the age of surprising discoveries and new knowledge, and the future - saturates important information about the most mysterious organ of the human body. |

| body |

Uncertainty and unpredictability are terrible and ubiquitously avoided. We know everything, but we are sure - in even more. Self-confidence lives in our thoughts and actions with luxury inaccessible even to eminent billionaires. Today - having reached the level of a new fetish - we hide behind a "reliable" shield of figures and graphs of analytical departments. Confidence in "costumes" - a colossal! These "experts" pretty accurately (in personal representation) poking into our faces projects of the future, and we pick up these ideas and broadcast, broadcast, broadcast (without forgetting to add your own). However, there are events that can not be predicted, and their consequences have an incredible impact on the future course of events. Only when such events happen are explained. That is the "Black Swans" of Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Frankly, the "Black Swan" is not for everyone. At some point, the reader rises up, shakes well and remains floating in weightlessness. Analytic summaries, future prospects, patterns of markets, political order, expert opinions on and without, can be equated to paparing and warm-up of the language. Taleb without a shadow of embarrassment brings down the whole power of the black-eye theory on scientists and experts who frankly fool their listeners and colleagues. If you take everything stated in the book, you involuntarily begin to see the clownish outfit on the self-satisfied "experts" who are necessarily occupying the prime time. The rebellious spirit is a distinctive feature of the narrative. Sometimes the text is thoroughly imbued with indignation towards short-sightedness and narrow-mindedness - the "degree" of the book is thus maintained by one hundred percent. And further. Having said that the narrative "pours", I brazenly lie. On the contrary, it is more like a long mountain stream: with dashing turns, swiftness and sharp stones. In many cases, the connection of small chapters (whether intentional or not - it is not clear) is completely lost. In some places the author grabs an idea, and at a frantic speed passes it to the reader, leaving the latter with the need to re-read a part of the text. The other extreme is the long layers of information that are filled with a lot of "technical" details, which sometimes can not be mastered in one sitting. Much, by the way, is suggested to be passed without harm for understanding. I do not want to disclose many maps, but do not mention the tele-Centralstate and Kraynestan - an impermissible impertinence. In these terms - in my opinion - the cornerstone of the narrative is laid, which can determine the choice of a profession, hobbies, strategies for achieving personal success. Yes, it sounded loud, of course, but this is not so much as one can thank the author for such valuable information. If such an unpredictable world does not suit you - it's not scary! You can choose a reality where the "black swans" turn gray, losing power and influence. Here is another hidden book insider ... After all, the choice, like thousands of years earlier, remains for us. |

| title | Chapter 2. The Graphic novel Totem |
| body | I should write a lot of beautiful words about out the joint graphic novel with Max Bokhan. We will share with you our problems, mistakes, ideas, techniques and other bits of the work process on Totem story. The Totem is the first experience in writing scripts and the first work with high-level artist. It’s awesome, when words become beautiful pictures on the page. But this is only emotional words and no more. Let’s speak about work process. At first I like to write about problems at the start of this project. Main idea, general way, etc it's has a lot of names, but meaning is one. You should look for interesting historical fact or original brainchild. I chose the first way. At the start we have one rule only. The main idea will be connecting with some enigma of Japanese culture. We began to search. When I heard about Khondzio Masamune’s lost sword, I saw about 10 different ways of the script, which connect with that story. It became a main factor in idea choosing.

Goro Masamune is the famous armorer of ancient Japan. According to legends, he found unique method of production high-quality swords. All his swords called swords of peace, because of their contempt for murder for the sake of murder. During the Second World War the sword, which called Khondzio Masamune was lost.

We chose the cinematic style of pictures, because we like to show you more that sequence of pictures with text. Story was written in 5 days. It became possible because of my hate of systems approach in texts writing. I began to use Flow technique last year. For me it’s more comfortable and productive method of the work. If you want to write faster and more creative, this technique is sure to help you in it. If briefly, you should jump from thought to thought and write all about every idea. You will really surprise, when sentences will be filling the page.

According of our plans, Totem will publish on 3 languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian. "body": "I should write a lot of beautiful words about out the joint graphic novel with Max Bokhan. We will share with you our problems, mistakes, ideas, techniques and other bits of the work process on Totem story.\nThe Totem is the first experience in writing scripts and the first work with high-level artist. I chose the first way.\nAt the start we have one rule only. The main idea will be connecting with some enigma of Japanese culture. We began to search. When I heard about Khondzio Masamune’s lost sword, I saw about 10 different ways of the script, which connect with that story. It became a main factor in idea choosing.\n

\nGoro Masamune is the famous armorer of ancient Japan. According to legends, he found unique method of production high-quality swords. All his swords called swords of peace, because of their contempt for murder for the sake of murder. During the Second World War the sword, which called Khondzio Masamune was lost.\n

\nWe chose the cinematic style of pictures, because we like to show you more that sequence of pictures with text.\nStory was written in 5 days. It became possible because of my hate of systems approach in texts writing. I began to use Flow technique last year. For me it’s more comfortable and productive method of the work. If you want to write faster and more creative, this technique is sure to help you in it. If briefly, you should jump from thought to thought and write all about every idea. You will really surprise, when sentences will be filling the page.\n

\nAccording of our plans, Totem will publish on 3 languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian. The first part in general will consist about 30 pages. Now we like to show us first pages, because your opinion is too important for us and this project.\nThe First Page\n

\nThe Second Page\n

\nWith best regards, NABY",

| body | I never liked politics, but I admired it always. Resourcefulness and adventurism are the base of every political course. I really like it! You can’t work on self-presentation without politics, and politics doesn’t work without selling yourself. Facts and pieces of embellished reality able to weave perfect clothes for all of us. Perhaps I should sit down at this wonderful loom.

From school years I know by heart a lot of guitar riffs of different rock bands. It’s merit of my best friend. At that time all was easy: you listen to rap, rock or all together (it’s like the keep on neutrality). I chose second path, wich changed a several years of my life. Infinity energy and a single picture of the world of the circle of my friends led to creation of music band. As expected we rehearsed in the old garage and played on the same musical instruments. I was the fan of drums, so I took the place of drummer in that young band without prospects. At 16 y.o. we got a first gifts of rehearsals. It was the firs concert in local rock club. At that time we understood, what is the business of our lives.

I had a simple view of the life and dreaming a lot about musical future. The band had not bad results: frequent concerts, meeting with famous band and a lot of alcohol! The changing of the musical style led to change of composition of the musical band. I left the band soon. All free time is divided between work and studding at the university. To 22 y.o. I can built the career in the big Russian commercial bank. The way from operator of contact centre to International business trainer was too hard, but it was priceless and very interesting experience. 3 years later I left this work and opened bussines. I got more free time, so I started writing the debut book. I grew up with the Internet and saw a lot of different changes of it. It was a main idea of the book “The Blacklist: A Brief History of Battles Over the Internet”. The book is free now (only Russian language yet): ♣ Official site ♣ Rutracker.org ♣ In online shops MyBooks и LitRes

My best regards for the cover of the book to Max Bokhan.
