I think with black ladies going natural once decided has the initial fear of truly doing it. You begin to sense that you may feel out of place and awkward. The appearance of your hair texture seems a little scary as you recognize that the average black woman who is not natural or discipline to switch, may not support something considered to be so different.\n\n\nIts so unique and revolutionary to understand that I am not like you. In the world we live in has a lot of influences on how black girls should wear their hair. Maybe the entertainment industry and the beauty industry that might have contribute to help natural hair rise. But even within these industries there are biases with the natural hair. More specifically we are speaking about every day girls in corporate America, from ordinary to professional women. It is a shame that we have to sense the anxiety of the concern that displaying the hair that we were naturally born with is a propaganda. This suggests how eurocentric beauty has been and how powerful the impact has been on black individuals and black women. When you decide to do the “Big Chop” you are not solely transitioning your hair, but you are, however, transitioning your mind.\n\nThis is a process of growth and the idea you attain which I believe is the destination of true love and acceptance for your natural hair.  You then begin to transcend the concept of the general of beauty and diversification of beauty. It becomes uplifting for black women, because of the stance of natural hair in society. Black natural hair is like a genetic mark that is linked with shame. It is masked the that “nappier” the hair, the more unattractive the hair and needed to be “fixed” straighten or covered.  In modern natural community it is referred to “kinky-tightly coiled hair.”  It is shameful that we are dealing with the minds of the past generations to present who have internalized this thought. Take the opportunity to educate about natural hair. There is no difference that it grows as those with straight hair. The difference is, is its texture. Most importantly learn your hair, not the hair of another you admire. Remind yourself that natural hair is appropriate, and it can be very terrific in corporate and in the  workplace. We say that we don’t care what people think, but we as women, naturally love compliments, adequately so, we recognize what used to being complementary, you will also get looks of disapproval or disgust, leading to total confusion. You do not need validation from these people. I suggest be aware and acknowledge that it’s no longer convenient to accept such ignorance.  It is not fair to have to adjust to their lack of expertise and it is unacceptable, however you recognize that being natural sheds light to those who are dealing with the same issues. Making a stand and appropriately defending what’s naturally grows from your scalp is a revolution in its self.\n\nIt is not your job to appease people who prefer your hair in weaves, braids or wigs. Do that by choice. Here is some food for thought especially for those who have not gone natural, on the fence about it, hesitant, and nervous. For those who are questioning how it may affect your job or just lifestyles. My suggestion is that there is going to be somebody who does not like your hair type, being curly to kinky. There are going to be people (family, friends, boss, or co-workers) that are not pleased with your natural hair. So, what! it is not their hair it’s your hair! Do not let it bother you to the core. The fact is that who we are naturally as black women is very liberating because it is the very opposite of what they tell us we have to be.\n\nNatural hair in the work place\n\nNatural textured hair is different, it has it own definition of beauty. To look presentable at the workplace, abiding by company’s own policies and procedures, should be in compliance as long as there is no intent to harm, dictate injustice, or discriminate. Review the company’s policies regarding grooming standards to avoid unnecessary discrimination.  When workplace discriminates against natural textured hair it does not justify being correct. It shows incorrectness that needs justification and excludes the true essence of a black woman hair. I can relate to the overtime damaged relaxer made to my hair that lead me to cut it off few months later into my transition.\n\nTransitioning Hair Tips\nOne of the best thing that you can do while transitioning is to keep your hair moisturized and wear protective styles, such as braids, weaves, or wigs. Just be careful not to prolong the wear as your hair underneath needs care. When transitioning you have two different textures, the relaxed end of your hair and your natural growth at the roots. What will happen your relaxed ends will start breaking off from your natural hair. Usually, during detangling your hair, washing hair, or manipulating, or styling your hair strands are occurring injury as you’re transitioning.\n\nTransitioning gives time for your natural growth to appear, but big chop is brave. If you’re ready for short hair or you’re ready to just cut your relaxed ends and make a healthy start. Then go ahead and chop it off. Health over length is always better. Because without health, hair well suffer setbacks.\n\nConditioning will definitely help will health of your hair. You will feel more comfortable to know that your new growth is healthy as your texture is finally showing. Condition your hair weekly so to keep your hair very healthy, soft, and moisturized. When you see your kinky curly hair, you be glad to know your texture is thriving. Not taking care of your hair will experience damage over time. Just like having a baby your provide tender loving care. So, yes always condition your hair and keep moisturized. That is one of the main things you must do with hair in general.\n\nOiling/butter creams is beneficial. Figuring out what oil and butter cream works best will help with the health or your hair. Personally, I use castor oil and olive oil. Using cold press oil is better as it is extracted from plants or seeds in a special way. You can apply your natural oil to your scalp and your hair. Your hair will be shinier and may make your hair very softer. Oil and butter creams are sealants, that is used to lock in hairs moisture longer. \n\nTo seal in the moisture that you already previously put in, such as in leave-in conditioner you want to make sure you seal it with oil/butters so that it stays for as long as possible. If you’re doing a washing goal your ends are going to need more attention. If your hair feels dry after a couple of days reapply the leaving leave-in conditioner and the oil whatever works for you. Best way is to spritz hair with water, apply the leave-in oil/butter cream to retain moisture. The Big Chop can be shown as a statement rising above the typical societal norms. But for many black women this is true, especially in the natural hair community. Being able to stand firmly and loving themselves from the roots to the tips of their hair. Taken verbal blows and criticism is what make most naturals become stronger to stand and embrace their hair even more.\n\nGiving great thanks to many natural hair blogs and natural hair Youtube Vloggers contribute greatly to the natural hair community. Educating and informing on natural hair care, hairstyles, do it yourself home remedies, and unique personalized hair regimens.\nBut unfortunately their is obvious separation of colorism and discrimination lingering between certain preferred hair types. This is a sensitive topic, but needs to be continually addressed until black women stand, support, and applaud each other. But in the black community instead of truly standing with each other, competition within our race is profound. Instead, partiality causing division quietly among us. In this case, having looser type hair is seen as the ideal hair type where as the 4C hair type is rediculed. This is ludicrous. This is a fall in the natural hair community among black women and men. “A house divided cannot stand” -Mark 3:25\n\nWhether if this is unintentional cannot be ignored. Because frustration level rise among 4 type hair women. Women with lighter skin, long hair, or loose curls are admired greatly. Given the impression that is the ideal natural hair, especially when mixed with another race. Although, it is quietly seen this way. I cannot logically agree that is not true. When a black women say “I don’t like my hair, I want your hair type.” That is devaluing oneself of the unique quality of your hair type. Again, coming from societal views. In the natural hair community all hair type is unique to one own self.\n\nThe news to some that when 4 type hair is considered “unruly” or “nappy” in its afro coiled pack state. It is not considered appealing or attractive, unless stunningly manipulated into wave liked patterns, such as a twist-outs or braid-outs.\nI feel rocking hair in an afro natural state or even locs is attractive, regardless if not manipulated into a “preferred” twist-out or braid-out style.\n\nBeing natural is a fight against what is considered “good hair” when division is rampant. Conforming to the idea of which hair type or texture pattern is “better,” looser vs kinkier texture is irrelevant and should be done away with. As more dark-skinned women and men with kinkier texture speak out, such as on blogs and Youtube. This will hopefully give increase awareness and lessen discrimination among naturals in the community.\n\nIt is our own way of thinking that feeds the colorism and division towards each other. Light skinned, brown skinned, or dark skinned. Your hair is your crown and should never be compared to, judged on, ridiculed, due to the fact it does not move, act, or behave in a certain way as yours.
