The consensus seems to be that it is better to be tall and slim, while those who are short and fat suffer a lot of disadvantages.\n\nI believe it depends on how similar you are to the people around you. If the most of the people around you are obese, then it seems to be normal to be a bit fat, but if the people around you are slim then those who are fat could be regarded as outcast.\n\nI am a foreigner in China. My height is 182 cm and I weight 78 Kgs. This seems to be quite a good physique, but previously when I visited remote places in China, people stared at me as if I am somebody from another planet because I am taller than most people. I used to envy the people in China who are mostly petite and slim. However, in recent years, people in China have grown much taller due to improved nutrition so I am no longer seen as strange. Unfortunately, due to plentiful supply of food, a lot of people have become fatter as time goes by. Hope people can watch what they are eating and have more physical exercise to maintain a healthy physique\n\nToday I came across a newspaper report which says that being tall and slender isn’t only aesthetically attractive; a new study shows these physical attributes are also associated with a higher socioeconomic status in most countries. Being a short man or an overweight woman is associated with reduced life opportunities in areas such as marriage, friendships, respect, happiness jobs and income. The report says they asked 119,000 people aged between 20 and 60. The results show that being short, leads to lower levels of education, lower job status, and less income, particularly in men and greater deprivation in women. A range of factors could link tallness to higher social position, and the researchers suggest the possibilities include complex interactions between self-esteem, stigma, positive discrimination, and increased intelligence. \n\nThat report is quite alarming as it shows that physical appearance affect the future of people. I don't really agree with the report because the value of a person is in his ability, suitable education, intelligence and experience. Do not talk to your ex anymore no matter how nice he is. There is a reason why you broke up. If that reason stays the same, then no matter how many times you get back together you will break up again. If that has changed, you might give it a shot. But never think that you could just be friends! That won't happen.       "body": "The instant I received an updated subscription from IKEA Family Club on WeChat, I thought of that trip to IKEA with my roommates two weeks ago. Since last trip, I have been longing to go there again!\n\nWell, I have to say, if you haven't been there, then you must give it a shot owing to the fact that IKEA is a wonderful place where it can satisfy all your illusions about home.\n\nRumor has it that shortly after going to IKEA, a Swedish furniture and home products retail store, you will have the impulse to marry your love. However, it didn't apply to us. As for single people, the only thing we preferred to do after the visit was that buy a single apartment and decorate it elaborately as the way we like rather than get married!\n\nWe managed to arrive at IKEA as instructed by the mobile navigation application. We got off Line 3 at Kazimen Station and got out the metro station from Exit 3.After a minute, ultimately, we saw IKEA. At that moment, we forgot our weariness and we were on top of the world.\n\nIt's a building composed of yellow and blue, the bright and bold contrast color which represents a simple and healthy lifestyle. Speaking of this, I have to mention that yellow is my favorite color and that is one of the reasons why I came here.(Besides, tell you in advance that the idea of design in IKEA is based on yellow and blue, to name only a few, their shopping bags.)\n\nWhen we entered into IKEA, it was almost lunch time so we chose to fill our belly first. Choose our food! Here everyone held a tray, lining up, and picked out the food to their taste, but I didn't have to hold the tray for we've got three people. A trolley just served us well!\n\nNeedless to say, food in IKEA was quite delicious and the environment made us feel comfortable. Imagine that food was put on the glass shelves in order under the warm yellow light, couldn't they be wonderful? In reality, when people are hungry, everything tastes delicious. Okay, forget it, I am off the point. However, I still think that the manager has to price them reasonably. A small bowl of Spicy Soup was priced at RMB 8 yuan? You must be kidding! I can cook it by myself.\n\nFinishing our meals, we started to look around the show rooms. There was a great variety of styles, such as simple, cute, vintage and so on. No matter you are a particular person or not, you must be a person who loves his life and there must be a style that suits you.\n\nWherever we went, we saw a lot of people lying on the beds of the show rooms, sleeping, or sitting on the soft couch. Maybe it was improper, but it was Chinese style. From my perspective, now that IKEA decided to break into China's market, they had to gear up to confront the situation.\n\nAfterwards, we went to the big storehouse. Not surprisingly, we were all dazzled by the superb collection of articles for daily use. So will you, especially girls, believe it or not, if you go to IKEA.\n\nWe purchased three cacti and ate ice-creams. And we spent half a day taking photographs of IKEA. We also waited till 2 p.m. to eat the special cakes.\n\nIn a word, the trip was fantastic, apart from the fact we were worn out at the end of the day. Now let me conclude several reasons why IKEA is worth a visit. Firstly, IKEA, as the name implies, is really a home. I mean it is capable of creating a warm atmosphere making you feel at ease. In addition, IKEA will provide their customers with premium service, like Smoking Room, Baby Care Room and dining area for families, where the kids can play games. On top of that, products in IKEA are inexpensive and high quality and that's what counts.\n\nFinally, I am not writing the article to advertise, but to share my experience.       "body": "Growing up, I have been treated like a queen in my family. Despite my parents' failed marriage, my families on both sides give me everything I want and fight with each other to please me. When I was a little kid, my mom sent me to learn piano, painting, calligraphy, chess, dancing, web development, and many other things that I can hardly count. Among all, I spent 9 years in piano and hated it while I am still playing chess because it fits my personality. Back when majority of my classmates did not even have a computer at home, I already won some web development competition in my town and was assigned to design my school website. My childhood is golden.\n\nMy husband, on the other hand, has a very different childhood. One day he told me that he had grown apart from his mother because he realized at an early age that he is not his mother's favorite child.\n\nme: I realized that when I saw her facebook. Apparently she likes your brother the most. But that's ok! She has so many kids and there is only one kid that is gonna be the favorite. All the other kids are being treated equal so you are being liked just the same as your other siblings, right?\n\nhim: But I wanna be the favorite one! I always thought I was the favorite one until my little brother came out. It was heart breaking. One day I will the favorite kid and inherit my parents' house and remodel it. I will make it gorgeous.\n\nme: Well, I don't think we need that house given that it's so far away and not worth much. Who wants to live in the middle of nowhere? Your siblings can take it.\n\nHaving few kids might be nice, but having too many will be troublesome. When we visited his families and invited the siblings to join us for swimming, his mother said no because she didn't want to buy multiple swimming suits for the kids to swim for just once or twice.\n\nhim: My mother said she would not be a \"soccer mother\" so everything we do for fun stays inside the house.\n\nme: What's soccer mother? (I've only heard of \"tiger mother\")\n\nhim: That's the kind of mother who sends the kids to play soccer and cheer for them every time they play. Sometimes they could even fight with the other parents when things come up.\n\nme: That's crazy. Well, your mother has so many kids so it's smart to not be a soccer mother, otherwise she will be go crazy. My mom has only me and she is already super busy.\n\nEvery time after I learned something new about my husband, I googled to study more. Honestly it is hard for me to understand the pain of not being the favorite kid.\n\nme: I am the only kid, so of course I am the favorite one. There is no competition!\n\nhim: You are lucky. I am already jealous about the relationship that you have with your mother.\n\nme: Now you have me. You are my favorite. You have no competition.\n\nhim: (Looks happy like a little kid.)\n\nThe more I know about my husband, the more I believe that he is a self-taught genius. Don't get me wrong - my husband is not a academic genius or a self-made billionaire. He doesn't need to be. The most valuable part of him is that he lives a happy and simple life. It annoys me as sometimes I wish he could be more aggressive. But I truly deeply appreciate how simple he is and how little it takes to make him a happy man.\n\nAfter graduating from college, I volunteered to mentor a local high school kid who comes from a family where nobody has been to college or knows how to apply for college. It is a 3-year commitment that I would start mentoring a specific kid from her first year in high school to when she starts her college life. There are many such people that need help and guidance and money can only bring them that far. I don't have the resources to help every single kid in the world, but at least I could help one kid to achieve her dream. And I would like to share with you that many kids I have seen will not make it to college. Only 30% of the high school kids in Harlem go to college. Most of them do not have the money. Also, their families never go to college so they do not see the point going to college. Instead, they are told to start making a living after high school. Going to college costs money and the time that you could have used to make money. It has huge opportunity cost.\n\nIt happens to my husband's family as well. Having so many kids, his parents can hardly afford sending any kid to college. So every adult sibling, after high school, picks up a job that makes the minimum wage in a local business. Some of them have been working for minimum wages for years without a college degree. When I met his younger siblings and told them that they should start preparing for college, his mother got mad at me and blamed me for trying to tell her kids that going to college is the only option in life when there are many other choices. It upset me.\n\nTo describe it more accurately, the value that my families has taught me since I was a kid and that I have held for my entire life has been challenged. For me and many of those who I grow up with, going to college is something we take for granted. Poor or rich, the parents will bankrupt themselves to send their kids to the best school they can. And now, I have this American mother tell me that going to college is not the only option so I should shut up. I don't understand.\n\nI can see clearly that there is a wall bewteen us that I can not break.",
