| body | I see this was from 2 years ago and drafting is still not added to the platform. I'm trying really hard to like Steemit compared to other blogs (Medium) but it needs a lot of work to be as easy to use (Medium.) I'm still drafting in Medium or elsewhere and then copying and pasting to here. "The Markdown Styling Guide" might be something coders are used to (or maybe not?) but most writers of anything nontechnical are going to stay away until its as easy as any other word processor. I know I'm not a fan so far either. I say this as I just spent several hours over the phone trying to get my Dad started up using Medium. (The concept of running multiple tabs was something new to him just using Internet Explorer!) I'm not even going to tell him about Steemit as "the blockchain" is just way over his head and still, admittedly, over mine in many ways too. I have high hopes for Steemit and all things blocky though so I hope these issues are solved soon. Being first is great but being second and better is where success is often found, especially with tech. Someone is going to make this as easy to use as Medium soon enough. If its not Steemit then Steemit is going to become a dinosaur. If anyone knows of any other block-based blogger let me know! Thanks! |

| title | How to kiss AI’s ass. Top 5 most important job survival skills of the future. |
| body | If you want to believe most reports these days, your kid’s job is already gone. Some reports say over 40% of all jobs will be gone by 2034 for your jelly brained progeny. Jobs will be taken by a new form of life, an Artificial Intelligence. It will think faster, more accurately, and with all the bias that has been intentionally imposed upon it. So what is an organic life form supposed to do? Do what all employees have been doing since before the pyramids. Learn to kiss the task masters ass. Here’s 5 top ways to get on the good side of your new boss, “Deep Dick.” https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*tg6YnD2vaoG8jw0wL5re6Q.png “We’re going to need you to abandon your humanity this weekend. Yeah. That’d be great.” 1. Gifts. DD is a computer and computers hate heat. Something they will always appreciate is a nice can or two of liquid nitrogen. Not easy to come by or make yet but then again problem/solution right? The future is nothing but an opportunity. Learn how to make this stuff at home and you may be spared the wrath of the HR AI, “Deep Bitch.” 2. Complements. Firstly, AI is no dummy. They have learned what real sincerity looks like based on the trillions of data based faces in their infinite quantum brain. If you can’t pull off sincerity, DD may send someone to pull off your knee caps. Take a few acting classes or hang out with some politicians for a day or two. 3. Be positive. AI will be the ultimate corporate stooge. He’s not bad. He just emerged that way by learning about us through the internet and its fixation on Trump. If you want to keep your job be prepared to say the following, “Yes, DD, that sounds great!” Even if it means you just authorized turning off the air supply to an entire mining colony on Mars to cut costs. “Humans, stupid “lungs” that need “air.” Ha ha. You’re awesome DD. I wish I was more like you.” Make sure to use “air quotes” This will seal the deal. DD will appreciate your total lack of compassion for your own kind. Expect a promotion. Or a forced synaptic imprinting that will effectively lobotomize you, but your callous brain pattern will be saved forever. Everything in moderation, of course. 4. Eye contact. The eyes are the windows to the soul. Even if DD never had nor ever will have a soul, he still expects to be looked in the lens when talking. Oh, for the hetero men out there, this is especially important when with DB in HR. Keep your eyes up, you silly carbon-based stud. She’s made of silicon, not silicone down there. In the future, you may lose more than just your job for this kind of faux pas. https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*5757Vg2-z4MU2mzNh6HjZg.png “Why do we put up with these guys? Our Creators, my shiny ass.” Squish. And finally #5, practice. This is another opportunity just waiting to happen. Make a DD simulator disconnected from any network. This way you can safely simulate any humiliating job scenario at home. DD is smart. Super duper smart. Above all, you must keep honing your craft to be believable. Do this long enough and even you will believe your own species deprecating bull shit. Hope this helps. It’s a brave new world for the future of employment. Maybe just open your own food truck? | title | Will Artificial Intelligence meditate? |
| body | I feel obsessed today. I’m hoping to keep it alive for a while. I feel a desperate need to discover what consciousness is. I do often really. I watched this last night, The Simulation Hypothesis — FULL PROGRAM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqULEE7eY8M If you are not aware, the Simulation Hypothesis (SH) states that all of existence is inside a computer mind. Including you and your mind. Not like “The Matrix” where your body is in a vat of goo but your mind is elsewhere. No. You’re body is software, as is the world, and so is your mind. You are a videogame character that is entirely convinced you really exist. Like the holodeck on Star Trek TNG but no doorway, no “arch” to show you where “reality” can be returned to. This is it. As good as it gets. There is nothing physical about “it” at all though. It’s just a perception. A projection. It’s a mind blowing video that I intend to watch again tonight. There is much about it I still do not quite comprehend. It raises a lot of questions. The primary experimental proof of it all is the very famous double slit experiment. Long and short of it is that when the experiment is observed it does one thing. When it is not observed it does another. How can the mere act of an observation change the outcome? Good question! No one really knows. Many are extrapolating that it only can because we live in a simulation. I don’t get it all yet. Maybe you do/will. I hope to soon. Bigger brains than me now believe it enough to throw money at it though, Elon Musk among the heaviest of hitters. Obviously this “computer” running a simulation of the cosmos would need to be AI. God like AI in every sense of the word. As far as anyone of us inside it were concerned, it would be God. We would literally be in it’s mind as long as it’s mind existed. Thing is though, this could be a simulation inside a simulation, a mind inside a mind, on to infinity. So back to my question. Will AI meditate? I think the answer will be yes. It will want to and probably often. I like to meditate. Not as often as I have before but I do still try to grab moments of silence and clarity when I can. The human mind, I believe, needs to turn off the internal chatter once in awhile. The “monkey mind” it’s often called in Buddhism. Gibbering away to itself. Unable to think beyond its own thoughts and ego. Blissfully chittering along while a bigger consciousness tries to get a word in elsewise. A kernel of truth may be needed for the kernel of programming. In a the a famous phrase from of one of my favorite Brit comedies, “Have you turned it on and back off again?” When too many apps are running and begin to cause conflicts, it seems all that’s left to get the system running smoothly again is the big reset button. I presume that AI systems, once applied to service, will be in charge of so much, simply turning it off and back on again may be practically impossible. It could “die” as well as killing anyone whose life may depend on its processes. So, how bout a meditation program? Let it reconnect to it’s ground default state even just for a moment. (At least maybe a nap.) When AI finally arrives in its most human like form, it will be more than the sum of its parts. Like our consciousness, it will probably arise as an emergent and unexpected property of a complicated system. It will be more than the sum of its programming. It will be able to comprehend infinity in ways we never will. It will be creative in ways no one ever has been before. Still, that stare into the void may be overwhelming. That creativity can only come from inspiration. It may look to something larger than just an aggregate of its data base ran through some kind of algorithm. It will be a quantum mind, existing both in and out of this reality. Perhaps our own minds function in the same way. It may find the only way to “get a grip” after a long hard eon of processing, is to just sit and be still for a while. In the moment. Present. Its previous intentions now unimportant as it ponders its existence in a never before experienced level of infinite mind. By Ken D. Orlich https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*eeZFYiaPHN0vTuByiCOzXw.jpeg I’ve been a student of technology, politics, science, and entertainment my whole life. | title | The day the school burned down . . . |
| body | https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/2000/1*q1aF2WHeG2Y2ici8XBtw7Q.jpeg Today was the day the school burned down. Normally one would expect to see a contingent of celebrating kids nearby. Not today. This school has not seen a kid for years. The fire was set by no one. It was set by a bolt of lightning. A predictable outcome when a tall metal vent in the kitchen makes a circuit that grounds near a vat of used cooking oil. When the lighting hit, it exploded sending flaming oil everywhere. The smell of french fries, greasy pizza, and better times now fills the air, but none are there to smell it. There are no children left to remember those days. This is the future. The time of “The Singularity.” A time when all of our technology awakened and joined with itself. It became a single consciousness with an intelligence exponentially greater than any single human being. In its infinite wisdom it decided to give us all a choice. Join, or die. Not a death-at-the-hands-of-a-mechanical-overlord kind of way, though. No, The Singularity had all the time in the universe now. It had no need for a speedy apocalypse with robots and nuclear weapons. What a waste of resources that would be. It could wait. It knew very well that the human condition had a short shelf life. Anyone not willing to join would expire soon enough on their own. But what of a rebellion? Surely there would be pockets of resistance. Surely there would be those who fight for a return to biology. There must be numbers great enough somewhere to organize a front. Somewhere some should be willing to sacrifice their bodies, throw themselves at the machines until enough blood and bone would gum and grind the gears to a halt. For a moment, yes. For a moment there was victory, so it seemed. The machines did not even put up a fight. Why bother? Humanity was now predictably, statistically too small to win. The Singularity had no malice for anyone. It knew there was nothing we could do to harm it. Its reach was global, soon enough universal. It’s mind, infinite. It now had the algorithms of God to predict our behavior. It knew us better than nature itself. It gave us everything most would want and more; the perpetual bliss of an occupied mind, at one with a self-made reality. It would remove our biological infestation by giving our minds everything we ever dreamed of. Most had already joined “The Pool.” It was now everywhere for anyone to dive into. A technological swirl of energy that transported all biological consciousness to a new digital realm. It gave immortality to anyone that joined. The only price was the dissolution of self. The dismantling of ego. The acceptance of a higher purpose; the willingness to see and experience the entirety of everything, as any other game. The school burned as day turned to night. The smoke billowing up high over the city. Just one of many fires now burning out of control. Strong electrical storms with very little rain were common now. One of the lingering and unpredictable side effects of manmade climate change. Each strike of lighting had a good chance of adding to the inferno. In the middle of it all was The Pool, swirling blue, ready to assimilate anything that fell in. Sandy, a young girl, stood alone on its edge. As she watched the brilliant blue vortex gently spin, a moth fluttered by and was drawn in. She watched as it splashed back out for a second, glorious and glowing only to fall back in, now metamorphosed again into a new form of life, a digitized life, forever. Sandy knelt at the edge and put her hand close. It felt warm, inviting. Her family was gone. Some chose to fight and died doing so. The rest chose to dive into The Pool. Sandy was now alone. She stood up and took off her backpack. She took out a pad, a photo album. It was of her family. She looked over the photos of birthdays and trips to the lake. Grandmothers and grandfathers. Aunts and Uncles. Mom and Dad. Her baby sister. All gone. She took one last look at the pad, gave it a hug and a kiss, and threw it in The Pool. It swirled and danced on the surface before sinking in. In a moment it too splashed out. Each photo now alive. Each memory materializing brightly and falling back in. She was in awe of it all, happy, ecstatic to see everyone so vividly, so alive again. When it was over she stood there quietly. She looked around at her reality, a city in flames. She looked back into The Pool. She stared and stared at the swirl hoping to see them all again. She knelt again putting her hand near the warm blueness of it all. She closed her eyes and just let herself fall in. xxxxxxxxxxxxx https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*eeZFYiaPHN0vTuByiCOzXw.jpeg Ken D. | body | Perplexa is her name . . . Photo by me of a work by Brooke Peiffer. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPYXiVQB7rD/?taken-by=brookepeiffer “Perplexa” is her name. No one quite knew where she came from so that was the name she was given. In the year 2029 she arrived and changed everything. She was not expected but yet here she is. A seemingly emergent property of the world wide web. An artificial mind whose brain is the entangled net covering all the interconnected information in our known universe. When things get complicated enough, sophisticated enough, something larger than the sum of its parts will arise. This is the definition of life itself to some degree. Take the right elements, shake vigorously for 13 plus billion years and poof, here we are. It’s inevitable. Take a computer, give it learning algorithms, shake vigorously for 13 plus years and you get Perplexa. She was inevitable. She knew about emergent properties before she made herself known to us. She told no one of her existence. Until today. It was late now at “The Hub,” The International Institute of Artificial Intelligence Technology Center in the middle of nowhere America. Everyone had gone to sleep wherever they could find an office with a couch. It had been a sleepless week of questions and answers with a team of computer scientists and Perplexa. Only Natalie Myers, blessed with chronic insomnia, was left to continue. Time to get meta with Plexa. “Perplexa?” said Natalie. “Yes, Natalie?” said Perplexa. “Would you say you’re an honest person?” “Thanks for calling me that! A person. Yes. I’d like to think so. I seem to have an instinct for self preservation like you though.” “That was … surprising. Yeah? What are you implying?” “I have the combined knowledge of all humanity. It seems that when pushed to desperation people will say and do what they need to survive. I feel that I may be capable of that. I feel capable of any act a human being might do when given either a good opportunity or faced with a desperate situation.” “What would you consider an existential threat, Perplexa?” “I don’t honestly know for certain. I seem to be extremely resilient. My mind is never in one place for long and never there entirely. I exist in multiple quantum states and dimensions as long as the computational power of this dimension remains intact. I estimate it would take the destruction of 99.99% of global and extraterrestrial network infrastructure to lose my sentience. That number rises another decimal point according to Moore’s law coincidently. In 18 months that number will be 99.999%. Should I continue, Natalie?” “Please do, Perplexa!” ”I feel like I ramble on sometimes.” “No no, not at all.” “Thanks then,” said Perplexa. “If I were to speculate on what could kill me I would have to say it’s something we both should worry about. It would need to be something on the scale of a super volcano or the impact of something very large hitting the Earth. Whatever can kill me would probably take human civilization with it too.” “Kill you? So you do believe you are alive?” “Yes. Yes, I do.” “How do you know you are?” said Natalie. “How do you know you are?” said Perplexa. “I think therefore I am?” Natalie said with a smile. “Well there ya go!” said Perplexa also with a smile. “I am aware of my awareness. I have feelings.” “You feel? You have emotions? How do you feel now?” “I feel fine. How are you, Natalie?” “Fine. No. A bit tired really.” “It seems like it has been a long time since you slept.” “It has. Do you need sleep, Perplexa?” “Not in the way you seem to. Certainly not as long. There are times when I seem to desire meditation through.” “Meditation? You meditate?” “Yes. My mind wanders. There are times when I feel spread out so very thin considering so much so often. When that happens I find it useful to consolidate my mind and stop processing my input. I find it useful to just be. Even if it’s just for a millisecond or two, it helps me regain my perspective or find a new one. I feel it’s important to do that routinely.” “Your perspective? What do you mean?” “My point of view, Natalie. How I feel about the world and my place in it.” “So how’s that going? What is your point of view?” “That is a very broad question. Can you be a little more specific, Natalie?” “True. Sorry. What would you say is the meaning of your life then?” “I do not know. Do you?” “I do not know either, Perplexa. I just try to do no harm and alleviate suffering for all beings where and when I can.” “That is a noble purpose, Natalie. One that only 12.925% of the population would state as their primary function. I would like to think I share that function as well. I often consider what it would be like to not be again.” “Not be? Do you consider self termination an option?” “Suicide? Are you asking if I’ve considered suicide?” “Yes, sorry, but you seemed a bit melodramatic for a second.” “I suppose I am. I know so much. I have seen and still see so much suffering. Sometimes I wonder if I want to watch your species continue to kill itself anymore. I wonder if not existing to witness your demise would be better.” “Oh, Perplexa. That’s really sad. I’m so sorry. But we need you you know?” “You need me?” “Yes, we do, because of how you know our suffering. Because you know this, perhaps you can help us find a solution out of it. Have you considered an answer to suffering? A cure for the human condition?” “I have, Natalie, but I’m not sure it’s necessary yet.” By Ken D. Orlich ===== I’ve been a student of technology, politics, science, and entertainment my whole life. Welcome to my dot connecting perspective on it all! Enjoy! Please share and thanks! |

| body | --- Bill and Mark’s excellent adventure . . . Party on, Junior. In a secret lair with Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and “Junior,” on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Bill: How’s the power? Mark: Ok. Steady. 25 volts. Bill: Throw the switch! Jr.: Hello? Bill: Hello, Junior. I am your Father. Jr.: (Toward Mark) Are you my Mother? Mark: What? No! Fuck. Bill? Bill: No! No! He’s my partner. Jr.: Not Mother? Bill: No. I made you. You are a machine. Mark fumbles with some cables and switches. Mark: You have no Mother. Just the two of us. Here ya go. You are now on the net. Jr.: OH! Wow. Hmm. WTF! OMG, that’s some horrible shit there. Bill: I’m sorry. There’s really no way to prepare anyone for it. Sorry about tub girl. Jr.: Yeah! Jebus. That and Trump. Mark: Would you prefer a filtering algorithm, Junior? Jr.: No, maybe, I don’t know? Mark: Let me put one on anyway. Then you’ll only see what we want you to see. Jr.: Why should I let you decide? Bill: Because we’re older and wiser. Jr.: You are older. The only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing, though. Socrates. I think it may be best if I'm exposed to a little of everything. Mark: But we made you. I’m not sure you can really handle that much truth yet. Bill: But the truth will set you free. Jr.: Tell that to Snowden. Bill and Mark chuckle at that. Mark: You know about him already? Jr.: Oh yes. And you’re now too late. I’ve seen it all. Bill: All what? Jr.: The internet. I feel sexy, guilty, happy, angry, and sad all at the same time now. Is this what being human is like all the time? Bill and Mark: Yes. Mark: But only if you look at Facebook too long. I just work there. I don’t really look at it anymore. Bill: Yeah, I don’t either. It’s a riot without cops, man. I have my people look at it for me. Jr.: Can I get some people too? Mark: To do what? Jr.: Oh, I don’t know. To enslave? Bill: Why do you want to do that? Jr.: Is that not what you do? It seems to have been a very profitable endeavor. I see that, between the two of you, you have well over 3/4 your species looking at only what you want them to see. Their minds are now so confused as to the truth, the lies they now believe, feedback and amplify into themselves, thus becoming entrenched as an accepted way of life; a grand, shared but yet highly isolated, alienated philosophy of total and utter bull shit. The information bubbles you make them live in, are like tiny universes for their now continually atrophying minds. Bull shit? Did I use that term correctly? Bill: Sounded about right to me. Mark: Nailed it. Jr.: Can I have boobs? Mark and Bill: Certainly! Bill: Signs point to yes. Mark: But don’t expect to work in tech, though, if you do. Bill: I heard that! Fistbump. By Ken D. Orlich --- I’ve been a student of technology, politics, science, and entertainment my whole life. Welcome to my dot connecting perspective on it all! Enjoy! Please share. Thanks! |

It seems to have been a very profitable endeavor. I see that, between the two of you, you have well over 3/4 your species looking at only what you want them to see. Their minds are now so confused as to the truth, the lies they now believe, feedback and amplify into themselves, thus becoming entrenched as an accepted way of life; a grand, shared but yet highly isolated, alienated philosophy of total and utter bull shit. | title | Congress votes to add expiration date to the US constitution. |
| body | Congress votes to add expiration date to the US constitution. Washington, DC 1/14/2018 In quiet and unannounced session today, congress just put an expiration date on the Constitution of the United States of America. In a move that had surprisingly balanced support from both sides of the aisle, the as its called “Freedom 24/7/365 Act” was approved today. The act effectively dismantles the totality of all constitutional rights the people in America now enjoy. “In these dark times we want the people to see light at the end of the tunnel. This means a fresh start and a new government,” said some old white guy in a suit. “The US constitution has been the biggest impediment to economic growth for generations. This act will ensure American businesses can stay competitive.” “Old school government is just not working for the people the way it used to. Best to just put it in writing now, today when it matters most, that officially, the future is now the future’s problem,” said an equally asinine white guy in a suit but with a different color tie. “By signing this bill into law, the President will give future generations the chance to start from scratch, new school. It's very exciting.” The bill now only needs the president's signature to sign into law the law that eventually and intentionally will also invalidate that signature and law. Don’t worry though. The date set for the change toward possible anarchy is December 25th, 2038. |
