Sulemanki Headworks is part of the Sutlej Valley Project completed between 1922-1927 at the behest of the Nawab of Bahawalpur, Amir Sadiq Mohammed Khan V and the British Government. the construction of the Pakpattan Canal took place in British Punjab in 1925 to on the right bank of the Sulemanki Headworks. This was undertaken to develop the Nilli bar colony in the south of Punjab. This headworks is located about a mile from the Indian border on the Sutlej River. From here originate three major canals which supply irrigation water to a large area in Southern Punjab and the Bahawalnagar district. The Upper Pakpattan Canal arises from its right bank and two canals arise from the left. The canals on the left bank are Fordwah and Eastern Sadiqia Canal. The later canal runs along the Pakistan-India border. After 46 miles at Jalwala headworks, Eastern Sadiqia Canal trifurcates into Sirajwah distributary, Malik Branch Canal and Hakara Branch Canal. Hakara branch runs in a southwesterly direction for another 75 miles and is at few places it is a few meters from the Indian border. According to Pakistan army it provides a major defensive landmark against any possible Indian intrusion. Therefore, it is of a significant strategic importance. Sulemanki Headworks the Baloki-Sulemanki Link Canal has its outfall connecting the Ravi River to the Sutlej River and thus offsetting the loss of water to India as agreed upon in Indus Basin Water Treaty of 1960. According to that treaty, three Eastern rivers, Ravi, Sutlej and Beas are allocated for the exclusive use of India before they enter Pakistan. In accordance with the popularity of Retreat Ceremony at other Indo-Pakistan border crossings such as at Wagah and Hussainiwala near Lahore, a smaller ceremony also takes place here at the check point Sadki by Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force. It attracts a sizable number of tourists on both sides. hilltop Pakistani check point of Sadki was transferred to the Pakistani control by India by a treaty signed on January 17, 1961. Pakistan needed to have border adjustments for efficient operation of the Headworks which was not possible otherwise. In return Pakistan ceded a part of its territory to India. That territory in itself is noteworthy for the memorial constructed in memory of Bhaghat Singh, a freedom fighter who was executed by the colonial British government. Major Shabbir Sharif, a Pakistani officer, the elder brother of General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Pakistan Army Staff was killed in 1971 India-Pakistan War in this border region. He was posthumously awarded Nishan-Haider the highest Pakistani military honor for bravery. The waters of the Sutlej are allocated to India under the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan, and are mostly diverted to irrigation canals in India.[3] There are several major hydroelectric projects on the Sutlej, including the 1,000 MW Bhakra Dam, the 1,000 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Plant, and the 1,530 MW Nathpa Jhakri Dam. The boundaries of Greater Nepal extended westward to beyond Satluj River until the tide turned in 1809 and Kangra king repulsed Gorkha army eastward with help from Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Today, the Sutlej Valley is inhabited by nomadic descendants of the Zhangzhung, who live in tiny villages of yak herders.[citation needed] The Sutlej was the main medium of transportation for the kings of that time. In the early 18th century, it was used to transport devdar woods for Bilaspur district, Hamirpur district, and other places along the Sutlej's banks. |

Bike trips, camping and cycling tours are a regular feature for adventure lovers, who throng the forest to enjoy every bit of the scenic facility. Besides, the visitors also have the opportunity to organise picnic trips that are arranged by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab throughout the year. Located just 80 kilometres south-west of the city of Lahore, the forest is the largest man-made forest in Asia. It also hosts a wildlife park that covers an area of 40 acres which was built in 2008. The forest hosts a wide variety of flora and fauna. Changa Manga is home to 14 species of mammals, 50 species of birds, six species of reptiles, two species of amphibians and 27 species of insects. The forest was originally planted in 1866 by British foresters. Its trees were harvested to gather fuel and resources for the engines employed in the North-Western railway networks. Road to fame The name of the forest is derived from an amalgamation of the names of two brothers who were bandits, Changa and Manga. They were a constant source of terror for the residents of the districts in the 19th century as they would hold up and plunder any passing trader. The robbers had a den in the secret heart of the forest where they sought shelter from the British peacekeepers. The robbers were eventually captured by the police and became the inspiration for the name of the forest site. Soon afterwards, The Salvation Army opened up a camp at the forest site as a place for reformation of criminals. Earlier, parts of the forest were developed into a recreation park with a railroad that gives the visitor a 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) ride on a miniature train through the forest. Other attractions include a water turbine, a waterfall, a children’s play area, and Lunar Lake. Interesting facts |

| body | Hello how are you.All the good deeds of the Ummah. ((( About Tube well)))). The world’s largest contiguous irrigation system was built in the 19th century, using the technology of the time and developing institutions appropriate to that era. In the intervening 150 years there have been few positive changes in the ways in which this core system functions. And it works ways in which both the infrastructure and institutions have steadily degraded. - File photo Agricultural productivity per unit of water, land and other inputs in Pakistan is lower than global and even regional standards. Wheat yield, for example, in Punjab stands at about two tons per hectare compared to four tons in India’s Bhakra and seven tons in America’s Imperial Valley. It is in this background that the Water Sector Task Force (WSTF) of the so-called Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FODP) has finalised a summary of recommendations which includes privatisation of the management of Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS) to improve efficiency. The study to be made public early next year but based on interactions with chief ministers, farmers’ associations and other stakeholders said: it could be safely assumed that growers could pay about Rs3500 per year to irrigate one hectare of land against existing Rs200 per year Abiana for a reliable high quality water service which could increase farm productivity. “Agriculture simultaneously faces enormous challenges and great opportunities,” said the task force while presenting a summary on the ground realities along with suggested policy measures. Today, one witnesses a vicious downward cycle: the quality of service is poor; many areas have too much water and suffer from water-logging and salinity; while other areas have too little water; systems are not financially viable and “investments” are not for constructing new capability but trying to make up for non-existent maintenance — the so-called “build/neglect/rebuild” cycle. The situation has been both masked and facilitated by the groundwater revolution of the last 50 years. Farmers have been able to make up for the infrastructure and institutional deficiencies of the canal irrigation system by investing in individual tube wells which use both natural and canal-induced recharge and which give the farmers a local, demand-driven option which enables them to live with an ever more dysfunctional canal irrigation system. There are nearly one million private tube wells, 85 per cent of which use diesel (and the rest electricity). The result has not been ideal. The most important measure of all – the productivity of agriculture, measured in terms of total productivity or productivity per unit of water, land and other inputs – remains low by global and even regional standards. But it is now apparent that this muddling through strategy has come to an end. The safety valve of expanding use of groundwater has come to an end as the quantity, depth and quality of groundwater and costs of diesel and unreliability of electricity have all become major impediments to further resource development that has so far saved Pakistani agriculture. Use of groundwater has not increased over the last 15 years. There are disparities in the application of water across canal commands and within distributaries. The result is that output is suppressed by too much water at the head of many canals as much as by too little water at the tail-ends. Enormous disparities also exist between average yield and output by progressive farmers who, for the most part, operate in enclaves in which they are not prisoners to outdated technology and unaccountable institutions. The differences are large, and pose the central question of how the performance of ordinary farmers can be raised to levels approximating those of progressive farmers. Continuing with business as usual spells massive problems for economic growth, for poverty reduction and for environmental sustainability. But there is an alternative, which has emerged clearly from the extensive engagement of the WSTF with farmers, bureaucrats, the private sector and some political leaders. The Okara Potato and Vegetable Growers’ Association is one of many examples of such high performance enclaves that have arisen in recent years. The association imports potato seed from Switzerland, multiplies this seed in Gilgit-Baltistan for three generations, and then distributes the seed to its members in the plains. Hundreds of the members of the association have cold chains for potato, fruits and vegetables. Their productivity is the highest of all potato producers in the country, and their ouput of spring maize is 9 to 12 tons per hectare. The WSTF team comprising experts with Pakistani and global experience identified relevant irrigation reform processes in other countries and found two experiences, particularly relevant for Pakistan. The first is the experience of Egypt, which has used innovation in both “greenfield areas” and the Nile delta to develop public-private partnerships for high-efficiency, high-technology methods for developing high-value-added agriculture. The productivity of fruits and vegetables in Egypt is more than three-fold of the current level in Pakistan. The other example is Brazil, which has become an agricultural superpower by harnessing the power of science and innovation. Only about 10 per cent of the four-fold increase in agricultural outputs in Brazil has come from increased inputs of land, labour and capital. About 90 per cent of the increase is attributable to “total factor productivity” which is the result of harnessing the power of science and innovation through new forms of public-private partnerships. To cite just one example, sugarcane yields in Brazil are three times that of Pakistan. A particularly relevant current Brazilian innovation is the replacement of old-style publicly managed irrigation systems by private operators who are awarded concessions for developing and managing command areas. The concessions are awarded through competitive bids evaluated according to the amount of public investment required, and the quality of the business plan with respect to engaging small farmers in the command areas. Based on these experiences, the task force recommended three action areas. First, improved on-farm water management, a proven technical and political success, can continue to give large returns. Second, up-gradation, construction and operation of small and medium dams, and modernisation of spate irrigation can result in large increases in agricultural production. Third, the introduction of private sector operation in the IBIS itself. Here the stakes are enormous, with the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow being a transformation in the transparency and productivity of this enormous system. But here the entrenched opposition in the irrigation departments is huge, and it will only be possible to make progress incrementally, and only if there is very strong political support from chief minister |

| body | ABOUT CRICKET)))))Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard (20-metre) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat (and running between the wickets), while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat and before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. When ten batters have been dismissed, the innings ends and the teams swap roles. The game is adjudicated by two umpires, aided by a third umpire and match referee in international matches. They communicate with two off-field scorers who record the match's statistical information.Forms of cricket range from Twenty20, with each team batting for a single innings of 20 overs, to Test matches played over five days. Traditionally cricketers play in all-white kit, but in limited overs cricket they wear club or team colours. In addition to the basic kit, some players wear protective gear to prevent injury caused by the ball, which is a hard, solid spheroid made of compressed leather with a slightly raised sewn seam enclosing a cork core layered with tightly wound string. The earliest reference to cricket is in South East England in the mid-16th century. It spread globally with the expansion of the British Empire, with the first international matches in the second half of the 19th century. The game's governing body is the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has over 100 members, twelve of which are full members who play Test matches. The game's rules, the Laws of Cricket, are maintained by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London. The sport is followed primarily in the Indian subcontinent, Australasia, the United Kingdom, southern Africa and the West Indies.[1] Women's cricket, which is organised and played separately, has also achieved international standard. The most successful side playing international cricket is Australia, which has won seven One Day International trophies, including five World Cups, more than any other country and has been the top-rated Test side more than any other countr. HESTRY)))))))) A medieval "club ball" game involving an underhand bowl towards a batsman. Ball catchers are shown positioning themselves to catch a ball. Detail from the Canticles of Holy Mary, 13th century. Cricket is one of many games in the "club ball" sphere that basically involve hitting a ball with a hand-held implement; others include baseball (which shares many similarities with cricket, both belonging in the more specific bat-and-ball games category[2]), golf, hockey, tennis, squash, badminton and table tennis.[3] In cricket's case, a key difference is the existence of a solid target structure, the wicket (originally, it is thought, a "wicket gate" through which sheep were herded), that the batsman must defend.[4] The cricket historian Harry Altham identified three "groups" of "club ball" games: the "hockey group", in which the ball is driven to and fro between two targets (the goals); the "golf group", in which the ball is driven towards an undefended target (the hole); and the "cricket group", in which "the ball is aimed at a mark (the wicket) and driven away from it".[5] It is generally believed that cricket originated as a children's game in the south-eastern counties of England, sometime during the medieval period.[4] Although there are claims for prior dates, the earliest definite reference to cricket being played comes from evidence given at a court case in Guildford on Monday, 17 January 1597 (Julian calendar; equating to 30 January 1598 in the Gregorian calendar). The case concerned ownership of a certain plot of land and the court heard the testimony of a 59-year-old coroner, John Derrick, who gave witness that:[6][7][8] Being a scholler in the ffree schoole of Guldeford hee and diverse of his fellows did runne and play there at creckett and other plaies. Given Derrick's age, it was about half a century earlier when he was at school and so it is certain that cricket was being played c. 1550 by boys in Surrey.[8] The view that it was originally a children's game is reinforced by Randle Cotgrave's 1611 English-French dictionary in which he defined the noun "crosse" as "the crooked staff wherewith boys play at cricket" and the verb form "crosser" as "to play at cricket".[9][10] One possible source for the sport's name is the Old English word "cryce" (or "cricc") meaning a crutch or staff. In Samuel Johnson's Dictionary, he derived cricket from "cryce, Saxon, a stick".[6] In Old French, the word "criquet" seems to have meant a kind of club or stick.[11] Given the strong medieval trade connections between south-east England and the County of Flanders when the latter belonged to the Duchy of Burgundy, the name may have been derived from the Middle Dutch (in use in Flanders at the time) "krick"(-e), meaning a stick (crook).[11] Another possible source is the Middle Dutch word "krickstoel", meaning a long low stool used for kneeling in church and which resembled the long low wicket with two stumps used in early cricket.[12] According to Heiner Gillmeister, a European language expert of Bonn University, "cricket" derives from the Middle Dutch phrase for hockey, met de (krik ket)sen (i.e., "with the stick chase").[13] Gillmeister has suggested that not only the name but also the sport itself may be of Flemish origin.[13] Growth of amateur and professional cricket in England Evolution of the cricket bat. The original "hockey stick" (left) evolved into the straight bat from c. 1760 when pitched delivery bowling began. Although the main object of the game has always been to score the most runs, the early form of cricket differed from the modern game in certain key technical aspects; the North American variant of cricket known as wicket retained many of these aspects.[14] The ball was bowled underarm by the bowler and along the ground towards a batsman armed with a bat that, in shape, resembled a hockey stick; the batsman defended a low, two-stump wicket; and runs were called notches because the scorers recorded them by notching tally sticks.[15][16][17] In 1611, the year Cotgrave's dictionary was published, ecclesiastical court records at Sidlesham in Sussex state that two parishioners, Bartholomew Wyatt and Richard Latter, failed to attend church on Easter Sunday because they were playing cricket. They were fined 12d each and ordered to do penance.[18] This is the earliest mention of adult participation in cricket and it was around the same time that the earliest known organised inter-parish or village match was played – at Chevening, Kent.[6][19] In 1624, a player called Jasper Vinall died after he was accidentally struck on the head during a match between two parish teams in Sussex.[20] Cricket remained a low-key local pursuit for much of the 17th century.[10] It is known, through numerous references found in the records of ecclesiastical court cases, to have been proscribed at times by the Puritans before and during the Commonwealth.[21][22] The problem was nearly always the issue of Sunday play as the Puritans considered cricket to be "profane" if played on the Sabbath, especially if large crowds or gambling were involved.[23][24] According to the social historian Derek Birley, there was a "great upsurge of sport after the Restoration" in 1660.[25] Gambling on sport became a problem significant enough for Parliament to pass the 1664 Gambling Act, limiting stakes to £100 which was, in any case, a colossal sum exceeding the annual income of 99% of the population.[25] Along with prizefighting, horse racing and blood sports, cricket was perceived to be a gambling sport.[26] Rich patrons made matches for high stakes, forming teams in which they engaged the first professional players.[27] By the end of the century, cricket had developed into a major sport that was spreading throughout England and was already being taken abroad by English mariners and colonisers – the earliest reference to cricket overseas is dated 1676.[28] A 1697 newspaper report survives of "a great cricket match" played in Sussex "for fifty guineas apiece" – this is the earliest known contest that is generally considered a First Class match.[29][30] The patrons, and other players from the social class known as the "gentry", began to classify themselves as "amateurs"[fn 1] to establish a clear distinction from the professionals, who were invariably members of the working class, even to the point of having separate changing and dining facilities.[31] The gentry, including such high-ranking nobles as the Dukes of Richmond, exerted their honour code of noblesse oblige to claim rights of leadership in any sporting contests they took part in, especially as it was necessary for them to play alongside their "social inferiors" if they were to win their bets.[32] In time, a perception took hold that the typical amateur who played in first-class cricket, until 1962 when amateurism was abolished, was someone with a public school education who had then gone to one of Cambridge or Oxford University – society insisted that such people were "officers and gentlemen" whose destiny was to provide leadership.[33] In a purely financial sense, the cricketing amateur would theoretically claim expenses for playing while his professional counterpart played under contract and was paid a wage or match fee; in practice, many amateurs claimed more than actual expenditure and the derisive term "shamateur" was coined to describe the practice.[34][35] English cricket in the 18th and 19th centuries Francis Cotes, The Young Cricketer, 1768 The game underwent major development in the 18th century to become England's national sport.[citation needed] Its success was underwritten by the twin necessities of patronage and betting.[36] Cricket was prominent in London as early as 1707 and, in the middle years of the century, large crowds flocked to matches on the Artillery Ground in Finsbury.[citation needed] The single wicket form of the sport attracted huge crowds and wagers to match, its popularity peaking in the 1748 season.[37] Bowling underwent an evolution around 1760 when bowlers began to pitch the ball instead of rolling or skimming it towards the batsman. This caused a revolution in bat design because, to deal with the bouncing ball, it was necessary to introduce the modern straight bat in place of the old "hockey stick" shape.[38][citation needed] The Hambledon Club was founded in the 1760s and, for the next twenty years until the formation of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the opening of Lord's Old Ground in 1787, Hambledon was both the game's greatest club and its focal point.[citation needed] MCC quickly became the sport's premier club and the custodian of the Laws of Cricket. New Laws introduced in the latter part of the 18th century included the three stump wicket and leg before wicket (lbw).[39] The 19th century saw underarm bowling superseded by first roundarm and then overarm bowling. Both developments were controversial.[40] Organisation of the game at county level led to the creation of the county clubs, starting with Sussex in 1839.[41] In December 1889, the eight leading county clubs formed the official County Championship, which began in 1890.[42] The most famous player of the 19th century was W. G. Grace, who started his long and influential career in 1865. It was especially during the career of Grace that the distinction between amateurs and professionals became blurred by the existence of players like him who were nominally amateur but, in terms of their financial gain, de facto professional. Grace himself was said to have been paid more money for playing cricket than any professional.[citation needed] The last two decades before the First World War have been called the "Golden Age of cricket". It is a nostalgic name prompted by the collective sense of loss resulting from the war, but the period did produce some great players and memorable matches, especially as organised competition at county and Test level developed.[43] Cricket becomes an international sport The first English team to tour overseas, on board ship to North America, 1859 Meanwhile, the British Empire had been instrumental in spreading the game overseas and by the middle of the 19th century it had become well established in Australia, the Caribbean, India, New Zealand, North America and South Africa.[44] In 1844, the first-ever international match took place between the United States and Canada.[45] In 1859, a team of English players went to North America on the first overseas tour.[46] In 1862, an English team made the first tour of Australia.[47] The first Australian team to travel overseas consisted of Aboriginal stockmen who toured England in 1868.[48] In 1876–77, an England team took part in what was retrospectively recognised as the first-ever Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia.[49] The rivalry between England and Australia gave birth to The Ashes in 1882, and this has remained Test cricket's most famous contest.[50] Test cricket began to expand in 1888–89 when South Africa played England.[citation needed] World cricket in the 20th century Don Bradman of Australia had a record Test batting average of 99.94. The inter-war years were dominated by Australia's Don Bradman, statistically the greatest Test batsman of all time. Test cricket continued to expand during the 20th century with the addition of the West Indies (1928), New Zealand (1930) and India (1932) before the Second World War and then Pakistan (1952), Sri Lanka (1982), Zimbabwe (1992), Bangladesh (2000), Ireland and Afghanistan (both 2018) in the post-war period.[51][52] South Africa was banned from international cricket from 1970 to 1992 as part of the apartheid boycott.[53] The rise of limited overs cricket Cricket entered a new era in 1963 when English counties introduced the limited overs variant.[54] As it was sure to produce a result, limited overs cricket was lucrative and the number of matches increased.[55] The first Limited Overs International was played in 1971 and the governing International Cricket Council (ICC), seeing its potential, staged the first limited overs Cricket World Cup in 1975.[56] In the 21st century, a new limited overs form, Twenty20, made an immediate impact.[citation needed] On 22 June 2017, Afghanistan and Ireland became the 11th and 12th ICC full members, enabling them to play Test cricket.[57][58] IMG_20210409_0939 |

| body | ABOUT CRICKET)))))Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard (20-metre) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. It is a nostalgic name prompted by the collective sense of loss resulting from the war, but the period did produce some great players and memorable matches, especially as organised competition at county and Test level developed.[43]\n\nCricket becomes an international sport\n\nThe first English team to tour overseas, on board ship to North America, 1859\nMeanwhile, the British Empire had been instrumental in spreading the game overseas and by the middle of the 19th century it had become well established in Australia, the Caribbean, India, New Zealand, North America and South Africa.[44] In 1844, the first-ever international match took place between the United States and Canada.[45] In 1859, a team of English players went to North America on the first overseas tour.[46]\n\nIn 1862, an English team made the first tour of Australia.[47] The first Australian team to travel overseas consisted of Aboriginal stockmen who toured England in 1868.[48]\n\nIn 1876–77, an England team took part in what was retrospectively recognised as the first-ever Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia.[49] The rivalry between England and Australia gave birth to The Ashes in 1882, and this has remained Test cricket's most famous contest.[50] Test cricket began to expand in 1888–89 when South Africa played England.[citation needed]\n\nWorld cricket in the 20th century\n\nDon Bradman of Australia had a record Test batting average of 99.94.\nThe inter-war years were dominated by Australia's Don Bradman, statistically the greatest Test batsman of all time. Test cricket continued to expand during the 20th century with the addition of the West Indies (1928), New Zealand (1930) and India (1932) before the Second World War and then Pakistan (1952), Sri Lanka (1982), Zimbabwe (1992), Bangladesh (2000), Ireland and Afghanistan (both 2018) in the post-war period.[51][52] South Africa was banned from international cricket from 1970 to 1992 as part of the apartheid boycott.[53]\n\nThe rise of limited overs cricket\nCricket entered a new era in 1963 when English counties introduced the limited overs variant.[54] As it was sure to produce a result, limited overs cricket was lucrative and the number of matches increased.[55] The first Limited Overs International was played in 1971 and the governing International Cricket Council (ICC), seeing its potential, staged the first limited overs Cricket World Cup in 1975.[56] In the 21st century, a new limited overs form, Twenty20, made an immediate impact.[citation needed] On 22 June 2017, Afghanistan and Ireland became the 11th and 12th ICC full members, enabling them to play Test cricket.[57][58]\n\n\n",

Similar rollers are used also at landfills or in agriculture.Caterpillar soil compactor equipped with padfoot drum, being used to compact the ground before placing concrete. ((((HEsTRY))))The first road rollers were horse-drawn, and were probably borrowed farm implements (see Roller). Since the effectiveness of a roller depends to a large extent on its weight, self-powered vehicles replaced horse-drawn rollers from the mid-19th century. The first such vehicles were steam rollers. Single-cylinder steam rollers were generally used for base compaction and run with high engine revs with low gearing to promote bounce and vibration from the crankshaft through to the rolls in much the same way as a vibrating roller. The double cylinder or compound steam rollers became popular from around 1910 onwards and were used mainly for the rolling of hot-laid surfaces due to their smoother running engines, but both cylinder types are capable of rolling the finished surface. Steam rollers were often dedicated to a task by their gearing as the slower engines were for base compaction whereas the higher geared models were often referred to as "chip chasers" which followed the hot tar and chip laying machines. Some road companies in the US used steamrollers through the 1950s. In the UK some remained in service until the early 1970s. As internal combustion engines improved during the 20th century, kerosene-, gasoline- (petrol), and diesel-powered rollers gradually replaced their steam-powered counterparts. The first internal-combustion powered road rollers were similar to the steam rollers they replaced. They used similar mechanisms to transmit power from the engine to the wheels, typically large, exposed spur gears. Some users disliked them in their infancy, as the engines of the era were typically difficult to start, particularly the kerosene-powered ones. Virtually all road rollers in use today use diesel power. Very heavy tyre rollers are used to compact soil. Variations and features Edit On some machines, the drums may be filled with water on site to achieve the desired weight. When empty, the lighter machine is easier and cheaper to transport between work sites. On pneumatic tyre rollers the body may be ballasted with water or sand, or for extra compaction wet sand is used. Modern tyre rollers may be filled with steel ballast, which gives a more even balance for better compaction. Additional compaction may be achieved by vibrating the roller drums, allowing a small, light machine to perform as well as a much heavier one. Vibration is typically produced by a free-spinning hydrostatic motor inside the drum to whose shaft an eccentric weight has been attached. Some rollers have a second weight that can be rotated relative to the main weight, to adjust the vibration amplitude and thus the compacting force. Water lubrication may be provided to the drum surface from on-board "sprinkler tanks" to prevent hot asphalt sticking to the drum. Hydraulic transmissions permit greater design flexibility. While early examples used direct mechanical drives, hydraulics reduce the number of moving parts exposed to contamination and allows the drum to be driven, providing extra traction on inclines. | body | INTRODUCATION GRADER::grader, also commonly referred to as a road grader, motor grader, or simply a blade, is a form of heavy equipment with a long blade used to create a flat surface during grading. Although the earliest models were towed behind horses, and later tractors, most modern graders are self-propelled and thus technically "motor graders". ((FUNCTION))::;Edit In civil engineering, "rough grading" is performed by heavy equipment or engineering vehicles such as scrapers and bulldozers. Graders are used to "finish grade". The angle, tilt (or pitch) and height of the grader's blade can be adjusted to achieve a high level of precision. Graders are commonly used in the construction and maintenance of dirt roads and gravel roads. In constructing paved roads, they prepare a wide flat base course for the final road surface. Graders are also used to set native soil or gravel foundation pads to finish grade prior to the construction of large buildings. Graders can produce canted surfaces for drainage or safety. In some countries they are used to produce drainage ditches with shallow V-shaped cross-sections on either side of highways. Steering is via a steering wheel or joystick controlling the angle of the front wheels, but many models also allow frame articulation between the front and rear axles, which allows a smaller turning radius in addition to allowing the operator to adjust articulation angle to aid in the efficiency of moving material. Other implement functions are typically hydraulically powered, and can be directly controlled by levers, or by joystick inputs or electronic switches controlling Electrohydraulic servo valves. A more recent innovation is the outfitting of graders with grade control technologies, such as those manufactured by Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc., Trimble Navigation, Leica Geosystems or Mikrofyn[1] for precise grade control and (potentially) "stakeless" construction. Manufacturers such as Deere have also began to integrate these technologies. HISTRY:::Early graders were drawn by people and draft animals. The era of motorization by traction engines, steam tractors, motor trucks, and tractors saw such towed graders grow in size and productivity. The first self-propelled grader was made in 1920 by the Russell Grader Manufacturing Company, which called it the Russell Motor Hi-Way Patrol. These early graders were created by adding the grader blade as an attachment to a generalist tractor unit. After purchasing the company in 1928, Caterpillar went on to truly integrate the tractor and grader into one design—at the same time replacing crawler tracks with wheels to yield the first rubber-tire self-propelled grader, the Caterpillar Auto Patrol, released in 1931.[3] |

In some countries they are used to produce drainage ditches with shallow V-shaped cross-sections on either side of highways.\n\nSteering is via a steering wheel or joystick controlling the angle of the front wheels, but many models also allow frame articulation between the front and rear axles, which allows a smaller turning radius in addition to allowing the operator to adjust articulation angle to aid in the efficiency of moving material. Other implement functions are typically hydraulically powered, and can be directly controlled by levers, or by joystick inputs or electronic switches controlling Electrohydraulic servo valves.\n\nA more recent innovation is the outfitting of graders with grade control technologies, such as those manufactured by Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc., Trimble Navigation, Leica Geosystems or Mikrofyn[1] for precise grade control and (potentially) \"stakeless\" construction. After purchasing the company in 1928, Caterpillar went on to truly integrate the tractor and grader into one design—at the same time replacing crawler tracks with wheels to yield the first rubber-tire self-propelled grader, the Caterpillar Auto Patrol, released in 1931.[3]\n",

| body | Components of Road Structure | Methods of Construction of Road Structure. Sub Grade: Subgrade is the foundation of the road, thus its the lowest and most important component of road structure. Construction: If natural surface is above the formation level then the surface is cut down to proposed sub grade surface If natural surface is below the formation level then the sub grade will be above the ground level It should be constructed at least 60 cm (2ft) high from highest flood level of the area Function of Sub grade: Bears all the load thus acts as a foundation of road Material: Material of sub grade should be strong enough to bear the loads, easily accessible and available in the vicinity and cheap. Construction: Constructed above the sub grade Not needed if the sub grade is of very high strength In case of flexible pavement upper and lower base courses are separated having different materials In case of rigid pavement only upper base course is provided Thickness varies from 7.5 (3in) to 15cm (6in) Functions of sub base: Prevent rise of water or capillary action Material: Should be better than the material of Sub Grade The Upper Base Course is made up of sand, gravel, and stone The Lower Base Course is made up of cheaply available material i-e rock and stone fragments 3. Road Base: Due to quality of material used in the road base it is divided into Upper Road Base Lower Road Base Construction: Constructed above the Sub Base Functions of Road Base: To avoid the distortion of wearing course due to its sufficient density Supports the wearing course Material: In case of Upper Road Base the material is of high quality as the load intensity is high In case of Lower Road Base the material is of high quality as the load intensity decreases 4. Surfacing: It is the upper most layer of road cross section. It can be provided in one or two layers:Construction: Constructed usually in two layers Binder Course Wearing Course (It is the layer which is in direct contact with the tyres of the vehicle) Functions of Surfacing of Road: Prevent penetration of water in to the pavement Binder Course binds the Wearing Course with the Road Base Wearing Course provide a smooth riding Saves the lower layers from abrasion and weathering effects of the moving vehicles Material: Made up of bituminous material For Flexible Pavement asphalt concrete is used For Rigid Pavements Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) is used 2. | body | Introduction: An automatic level is an optical instrument used to establish or verify points in the same horizontal plane in a process known as leveling and is used in conjunction with a leveling staff to establish the relative heights levels of objects or marks. It is widely used in surveying and construction to measure height differences and to transfer, measure, and set heights of known objects or marks. It is also known as a Surveyors level, Builders level, Dumpy level or the historic “Y” level. It operates on the principle of establishing a visual level relationship between two or more points, for which an inbuilt telescope and a highly accurate bubble level are used to achieve the necessary accuracy. It is usually used by contractors, builders, land surveying professionals, or the engineer who demands accurate leveling every time. Auto Levels set up fast, are easy to use, and save time and money on every job.Introduction: An automatic level is an optical instrument used to establish or verify points in the same horizontal plane in a process known as leveling and is used in conjunction with a leveling staff to establish the relative heights levels of objects or marks. Auto Levels set up fast, are easy to use, and save time and money on every job. An auto level consists of a telescope with various screws to adjust the line of sight. A tripod is also used to mount and adjust the auto level.Telescope: It holds the lenses that magnify objects in the sight. Objective Lens: It catches the object being sighted and magnifies the object. Eyepiece: It is located at the viewing end of the telescope, it can be turned to bring the crosshairs into focus. Focusing Knob: It can be turned to make objects appear crisp and clear. Leveling Screws: It allows adjustments to be made to ensure the instrument is level. Base Plate: It is the area to which the automatic level attaches on the tripod. Horizontal Tangent Screw: It can be adjusted to make the instrument move left or right on the horizontal plate. It is also known as ‘slow motion knobs’. Circular Level: It is mounted on the automatic level, it ensures that the instrument is at a true level point. Mounting an Automatic Level: Firstly the automatic level needs to be mounted on the tripod. For that purpose, the instrument is placed on the head of the tripod carefully such that the nuts under the instrument perfectly aligning with the bolts present on the head of the tripod and then the bolts are tightened with the nuts completing the mounting process. Levelling an Automatic Level: Once the auto level is properly mounted on the tripod it then needs to be levelled before taking measurements as unleveled instrument gives blunderous readings. In order to level the automatic level a very simple but efficient enough instrument called “Circular Level” is used. Circular Level is actually a very basic and cost-effective levelling tool, it contains a small bubble floating inside a small circular glass which indicates the state of levelling of a horizontal surface or in this case an instrument on the surface. So to level, the instrument one needs to take that small bubble in the middle of the circular level by adjusting the legs of the Tripod and by moving the levelling screws carefully. When the bubble comes in the middle of the circle the automatic level will then be considered as levelled and ready to take measurements. Focusing an Automatic Level: After setting up the automatic level, the next step is focusing the automatic level. Firstly the telescope is aimed at the target and is roughly aligned with the target by means of “Alidade”. When seen through the eyepiece the target may look blurry but turning the focusing knob either left or right should make the object appear clearer. Making a Reference Line: After careful setup of the level, the height of the crosshair is determined by either sighting from a known benchmark with the known height determined by a previous survey or an arbitrary point with an assumed height is used. Sighting is done with an assistant surveyor who holds a graduated staff vertical at the point under measurement. The surveyor rotates the telescope until the graduated staff is in the crosshairs and records the reading. This is repeated for all sightings from that datum. The instrument should be moved to another position within sighting distance, it is re-leveled, and a sighting taken of a known level in the previous survey. |

| body | This is a composite image. Life have many dimensions in an Asian village. Population mainly dominated by the farmers but many people earn their living by selling some commodities of daily use from village to village on their bicycle. I shoot the sunset and the vendor separately and merge to get the maximum sentimental and esthetic effect in the picture. Fine art photography normally considered as presenting images in a unique and emotional way. Some time the environment, weather and subject creates the effect but most of the time that effect have to be created by the artist to express his imagination. |
