| body | https://karasoth.wordpress.com/2011/02/23/wars-and-rumors-of-wars/ Some times you need to go with Melodrama when it fits the mood of the events you are talking about. So this post is going to be about taking a very high up analysis of the current situation we are seeing in the world and my perspective on it. I am going to break this Particular upper level analysis into relevant groups But I would like to start with some words from Albert Pike, Masonic thinker and (sadly) Confederate General he quoted Solon when asked if he gave the Athenian people the best laws. Solon’s response “The Best they are capable of receiving.” These words of Solon are what I fear we have to face in the coming turmoil in the middle east if these events come out as a “Best case scenario.” These people will receive the best democratic institutions and laws they are able. In the case of a Worst case scenario then I am writing these words to exist as part of the dialogue of history that I hope will be read by some one. This was not unexpected The US played a role in setting the stage for this revolt: Globe and Mail Telegraph America.Gov Even as they were officially supporting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, American officials were secretly helping dissidents interested in using social media to overthrow his regime, a secret dispatch from the U.S. embassy in Cairo has revealed. The cable, dated December 30, 2008 and recently released on the Wikileaks website, also describes a plot to oust Mr. Mubarak in 2011, which it dismisses as “unrealistic.” I want to turn the briefing over for a bit to Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, and then Jared Cohen, who’s from our Policy Planning Staff, to talk a little bit about a really exciting and innovative program that the State Department is working on with various partners out in the private sector. It’s called the Alliance of Youth Movement. It’s a meeting that’s going to be held in New York City from December 3rd to the 5th, and it’s working with youth to help combat extremism and to use new trends in social networking, as well as the technical aspects of social networking, to help various groups come together to combat extremism. And it’s really part of – this is, I would say, part of an overall effort here at the State Department to really better use technology, better use various applications of those technology, including social networking and social media to better communicate with the rest of the world and to do our job. You’re well aware of what we’re doing in terms of the briefing room here, Briefing 2.0, Facebook, our blog, and a lot of other efforts that we’ll talk about after this. I won’t bore you with all those right now. Obama was briefed and warnings existed Talking Points Memo Haaretz We warned of instability but not exactly where it would come from [and in what form],” she said. “That happened at the end of last year.” The committee was considering O’Sullivan’s nomination, and O’Sullivan was responding to a question from Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) about what the president knew about the expected unrest in Egypt and when he knew it. Wyden was not satisfied by O’Sullivan’s answer and said he wanted more specifics about exactly when Obama was informed about how serious the situation was in Egypt. But O’Sullivan said she was not directly involved in providing exact information about presidential briefings and her duties involve “a more general understanding of what was going on.” “We have warned of instability,” she said. “We didn’t know what the triggering mechanism would be for that. And that happened at the end of the last year.” Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been criticized for being slow to grasp the scale of the upheaval in Egypt. Obama Cut funds in his first budget to the programs that helped sponsor the youth movement that now it turns out was the nucleus of the “Revolution” So, what does this all mean? * Our Government sponsored the civil society movements that pushed for change in Yemen, Egypt, and other places. * Our Government seems to have no connections or influence with the group ( or is not using it) * Our Government seems to have either forgotten or not aware of the influence of these groups on potential brewing stability * Our Government seems to have helped to promote instability in allies (albeit allies with an unpleasant system of government.) * Our Government seemed only interested in the Instability in Egypt when it was to late (several scholars had been promoting these concerns in 2010) So our Government seems unaware of whats going on, or unaware of the consequence of its own actions And they have been promoting instability in allied countries. Next I will talk some about the Demographic issues factoring into the mess |

| author | karasoth |
| body | https://karasoth.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/wars-and-rumors-of-wars-ii-of-x-demographics-matter/ I would like to lead off with some material from the Council on Foreign Relations How significant has the role of demographics been in the protests across the Middle East? Demographics have played an important role, not because they are the problems themselves but because they have exacerbated other serious problems that youth are having in the way that they have been affected by the reforms that have occurred over the past three years in the Middle East. So, demographics, simply by having large numbers of people who are very frustrated at their inability to turn their education into productive jobs, has really exacerbated the problems. The entire region is experiencing a pronounced “youth bulge,” where the proportion of young people is significantly larger compared to other age groups. Is this an opportunity or a challenge? Currently it’s proving to be a challenge, but it’s not necessarily a challenge. In other parts of the world, the youth bulge phenomenon has been an opportunity. In East Asia and Southeast Asia with their open economies and good education systems, they’ve been able to use the youth bulge as an advantage. In the Middle East, unfortunately, it’s turning out to be a challenge because of the governments’ inability to put together economic policies that make use of these human resources. When you have people whose expectations have risen because of their education, and then these expectations are shattered, they become very angry and dangerous to the regimes. ….. “In East Asia and Southeast Asia with their open economies and good education systems, they’ve been able to use the youth bulge as an advantage.” So right there we see a very interesting difference of two factors Open Economies Good Education system So lets look first at the openness of their economy using some data from the Heritage Foundation (I understand the limitations of the Heritage foundation but it makes a good starting off point. They also have a neat tool for comparison ) #10 on the Heritage list is Bahrain (currently struggling with instability). Indeed the only area where Bahrain underperformed was property rights. Egypt met about the mid point on economic freedom (and with the exception of Libya most of the countries with instability are likewise around the average, as also is -CHINA-) Indeed of Heritage’s data set the one thing the countries have most in common (again with the exception of Bahrain) have VERY high levels of corruption. The corruption in Tunisia was marginal Some additional corruption information If this PERCEPTION of Corruption statistic is used as an example and corruption is what fuels these protests we have 83-84% of the nations of the world that have part of the formula for a youth explosion. Now lets take a look at some education statistics from UNESCO Of those nations with statistics available : Bahrain has nearly 1/3rd of the people with a post secondary education. Jordan has over 45%. Syria has nearly a third. However those countries that passed through the event horizon (Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt) all are lacking data from Unesco. Though Tunisia and Egypt likely have similar rates to Bahrain, Syria, and Jordan and Libya is likely lower So lets look at the youth issue itself by looking at median ages. (per CIA world factbook) Yemen is third from the bottom in regards to median age. Egypt has a median age 9 years older then Yemen. Bahrain has nearly double the median age of Yemen (with a median age of 30). Jordan is about 6 years older then Yemen. Libya has a comprable median age to Egypt. Syria has a comprable median age to Jordan. Algeria is 12 years older then Yemen. China is only 5 years older in Median Age then Bahrain All of these Median ages are sub 30 years old. So what is this saying? A population where between 1/3rd to one half of the people have college education are living in countries with serious issues of corruption (excluding Bahrain) and have a median age of 30 and under are rebeling against their national regimes. On economic issues (excluding Libya) the countries were average to slightly above average (or in the case of Bahrain strongly above average) on other economic metrics. In my next post we will examine the strength of their relative economies but I will note if you accept the thesis that this crisis is being fueled by an educated and economically inactive (*due to corruption*) youth bulge then this fuel exists in other places around the world. I highlight China because of how dangerous seeing whats going on in Libya if it would happen in China. |

"body": "https://karasoth.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/wars-and-rumors-of-wars-ii-of-x-demographics-matter/\n\nI would like to lead off with some material from the Council on Foreign Relations\n\n How significant has the role of demographics been in the protests across the Middle East?\n\n Demographics have played an important role, not because they are the problems themselves but because they have exacerbated other serious problems that youth are having in the way that they have been affected by the reforms that have occurred over the past three years in the Middle East. So, demographics, simply by having large numbers of people who are very frustrated at their inability to turn their education into productive jobs, has really exacerbated the problems.\n\n The entire region is experiencing a pronounced “youth bulge,” where the proportion of young people is significantly larger compared to other age groups. Is this an opportunity or a challenge?\n\n Currently it’s proving to be a challenge, but it’s not necessarily a challenge. When you have people whose expectations have risen because of their education, and then these expectations are shattered, they become very angry and dangerous to the regimes.\n\n …..\n “In East Asia and Southeast Asia with their open economies and good education systems, they’ve been able to use the youth bulge as an advantage.” \n\nSo right there we see a very interesting difference of two factors\n\nOpen Economies\nGood Education system\n\nSo lets look first at the openness of their economy using some data from the Heritage Foundation (I understand the limitations of the Heritage foundation but it makes a good starting off point. They also have a neat tool for comparison )\n\n#10 on the Heritage list is Bahrain (currently struggling with instability). Indeed the only area where Bahrain underperformed was property rights.\n\nEgypt met about the mid point on economic freedom (and with the exception of Libya most of the countries with instability are likewise around the average, as also is -CHINA-)\n\nIndeed of Heritage’s data set the one thing the countries have most in common (again with the exception of Bahrain) have VERY high levels of corruption. | body | Well, this is just an insect trapped in amber https://karasoth.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/the-donald-and-the-gop-2/ The current Blogging Zeitgeist among the paid political web class and other wannabes (such as myself) to pontificate and ponder on the nature of THE DONALD in his attempt to fire Obama. While working I had some thoughts on this and I wanted to comment on it. #1) Passion What does Donald have that most of the major other candidates don’t? He speaks with a passion. A passion to put the country right that has been put very wrong. And put very wrong by the Obama-Pelosi-Reid (and also George W Bush) legion. You know who else speaks with that passion in the field? Palin (who is more and more looking like a non candidate), Bachmann, and RONPAUL. Who has tried to fake this passion (and failed). Our good friends here Mittens Romney and the Huckafraud. Also trying to fake it is T-Paw but no one is paying attention to him. Donald has it and he comes to this passion as naturally as any salesman comes to it. (which may mean not at all.) But he at least SEEMS passionate. #2) America the Beta I was reading “Who Are We” by Samuel P. Huntington and something he wrote on appeals to this issue. (pgs 314 and 315) In 1997, for instance, in a national survey of whites, 15 percent estimated that blacks were more than 40 percent of Americans, 20 percent estimated that blacks were between 31 and 40 percent , 25 percent said between 21 and 30 percent. sixty percent of whites thus saw blacks as more then 20 percent of the American people…..A majority of White Americans also see themselves as relatively poorer and blacks as relatively richer than is the case. As sociologist Professor Charles Gallagher of Georgia State University explains:”like it or not, middle-class and lower middle class whites see themselves as a minority and have adopted a posture of being victims.” The News is clear to most Americans: We are in Second place to China. The reality is very nuanced and very different. The News is clear to most Americans: We are being mocked and laughed at by the countries around the world. The reality is very nuanced on that issue. America doesn’t make anything anymore, and all our companies are owned by foreigners. The truth is something else entirely To these people Donald Trump is saying “I will make the United States of America an Alpha again.” This appeals to many voters. Now while Romney is speaking to these issues some (as are T-Paw, The Mustache, and other candidates) Trump is channeling this pain and is offering a simple (some would say simplistic) answer to that problem. #3) America wants an nontraditional candidates. Obama was a very unorthodox Presidential candidate. People have become very tired with the outcomes of orthodox politicians. Our problems with taxes, spending, debts, and deficits are born in large part because of the lack of imagination of the political class. Of the unorthodox candidates out there: Ronpaul ,John Bolton, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin (who isn’t going to be running), And Herman Cain. Of those Candidates AS OF TODAY only Trump has a realistic shot of winning the prize (and his chance at winning is only marginally realistic) #4) This Sauce is weak As I have said before the candidates out there are bland, dull, boring, uninteresting, and don’t speak to what the Republicans are interested in from their Candidates. While The Donald may not be a good candidate right now he at least seems to have more going on then the other Candidates and the voters can window shop with him. #5)Trump is a Businessman Despite such Business Presidents as George W Bush and Herbert Hoover the American voters on the Center Right seem to think a business oriented President is what we need. In the Developing world , the former soviet sphere, and Italy we have also seen how bad business candidates can be. But the American voters think “this time it will be different.” #6)CHINA The News and policymaker responses to China are part of what I will call “Alternative Reality Based Community.” People view the rise of China as a threat, much as they did the rise of Japan, and Donald Trump speaks to this belief that has broad support on both sides of the aisle. Trump says “I will be tough with China.” We don’t need a President who will be tough with China but we need a President who will embrace reality with China. And we need a President who will communicate reality to the American People. #7)Oil prices man Oil prices sure suck don’t they. We have been taught by our “Leaders” two people are to blame. The EBIL oil companies and the EBIL arabs in Opec. The reality is something very different. The Power of Opec has been slipping since the 1980s when they helped us win the cold war (no one told you about that? Yeah Opec helped us win the cold war). But many people still nurse hurts from the 70s oil crisis. And many others view the EBIL arab oil money and the war on terror as a hand in glove issue. Trump says he will be tough with Opec and break their back and Fix oil prices. The path to lower oil prices is not through OPEC. Its through Oil Drilling in the US, its through the fact the growth in China and India (which is factored in to the pricing) may falter. Its through the fact Japan (a major consumer of oil) is in ruins. So this is my take on why The Donald is being viewed seriously at this stage by a lot of Republicans. At this point in time other candidates (Mittens, T-Paw, Daniels, Barbour, Huckafraud, etc) can steal these ideas and make them their own. BTW guys… I am also totally available to provide these ideas for pay. Call me |

| body | https://medium.com/@karasoth/and-it-begins-again-663549f679ce I believe the only way to make a lasting a full social change is through fiction and stories. People need to dream of a world that is different and new before they can make changes. Fantasy gives us hope to make a world for us to live in. And thats why I have tried and tried to write. I normally crash after the first draft. But I am starting a new project. So this is the first scene of that first draft. — — — — — — — — — The city was abuzz with activity. The police were on high alert and the deputy commissioner was speaking with the press. What the normal eye could see was already extracted from the dark alley. But there were two who remained behind. “I know he was your friend so I figured I would let you in on it first.” The woman with raven black hair spoke. Her White costume cutting through the night. She was tall and a striking figure. Her form was both classical in its cut as well as atheletic. “Thank you.” a voice from under the black cloak speaks. Only the eyes of gold cut through it and into the night. The cloaked man feels the dirt in his hand and takes a moment to sniff it. “Something like us?” The woman nods “About what I figured. I can track something like this normally but he isn’t using natural tricks to hide or run.”The cloaked figure stood up and nodded. “And you smelled what the robot used on him.” She folds her arms and nods “It was brass and chrome and shiney. Any of the mad science set could have made it. But whomever did knew who he actually was.” She looked around for a moment her own eyes taking in the fullness of the night before continuing. “So that means its a kid of some one or some one decided to break the covenant.” He nods and takes off his hood. His red hair stands out from his dark olive skin. “ His face was rugged and worn and his bones marked the face of a man of breeding and distinction. And it doesn’t seem like one of mine or one of yours. Could be one of his.” The woman nods to him in the affirmative. “ Do you want a piece of him?” He asked her looking her over for a moment and she shook her head. “ The life we live now doesn’t need to be broken and your a friend of his and you have the particular set of skills we need to track it down. I can’t tell you if the scent goes to the robot or not. I wasn’t here for that.” He nods and pulls his hood back “If its one of yours?” She grins “Well….if its one of mine while I have no claim to justice on most of them I don’t think anyone would bat an eye about a traitor to the covenant getting justice from you. Especially if no one has to know.” She calls down a White Falcon from the sky she stares into its eyes for a moment and nods before sending it up into the sky again. The bird fades into the blackness of the night then vanishes. She draws her own hood and cowl back on. The man in black nods in respect to her “Sanufalk.” She smiles at him “Night Dragon.” As she ran into the night the dogs and cats stray on the street followed her in kind. Night Dragon lept into the sky landing on top of the first building he could reach. He ran leaping from building to building following the footsteps that the scent showed him on the ground. The smell was salty and swampy, like a bog of a place of death. He had smelled such things before. He would call forth a collapsible rod and a grapple as he needed them to make his way from building to building. The scent was like his own. Crossing from darkness to darkness almost out of instinct. He knew the paths of the darkness in his city better then most. And he remembered when he first crossed them. The kid is new to the shadows and darkness, that much was clear to him. But the darkness was instinctive in his mind, likely in his blood. He began to run through names as he continued with his pursuit. He saw an opening and jumped ahead of his prey. He knows where the shadows and darkness would lead him. So he could ambush his prey by getting there first. The warehouse was one of many graves for the old newspapers that once were beacons of truth in the cities. He took into the shadows of the building and waited. He heard the breaths getting heavier and more rapid as his prey approached. The man who came in through the darkness stood a strong height but was of lean build. He was wearing black denim and leather. He could hear his heart and its rapid beat before his eyes made their target. — — — — — — — — - More to come as I do more scenes. >I strongly welcome feedback |

"body": "https://medium.com/@karasoth/and-it-begins-again-663549f679ce\n\nI believe the only way to make a lasting a full social change is through fiction and stories. People need to dream of a world that is different and new before they can make changes. Fantasy gives us hope to make a world for us to live in. And thats why I have tried and tried to write. I normally crash after the first draft. But I am starting a new project. So this is the first scene of that first draft.\n\n— — — — — — — — —\n\nThe city was abuzz with activity. The cloaked man feels the dirt in his hand and takes a moment to sniff it.\n“Something like us?” The woman nods “About what I figured.
