      "body": "![Brain-tumor.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaN8j7NpVZEdDfjmsEFiuBbC4kZDzpLaKL4rJALdJmiRg/Brain-tumor.jpg)\n\nThe international team of scientists has found that flavopiridol, a <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavonoid\">synthetic flavonoid</a> used in the past to treat various forms of cancer, could also be repurposed to play a crucial role in the fight against brain tumours.\n\nStakes are high: glioblastomas, which flavopiridol could be used to tackle, are the most common form of brain cancer, and right now, there is no cure.\n\n Just <a href=\"http://www.abta.org/brain-tumor-information/types-of-tumors/glioblastoma.html\">30 percent of patients</a> with glioblastoma in the US live more than two years after diagnosis, and an <a href=\"http://www.abta.org/about-us/news/brain-tumor-statistics/\">estimated 12,000 new cases</a> are expected to be diagnosed in the US in 2016.\n\nThe Thanks to work from researchers in the US, Italy, and the UK, it appears flavopiridol can be used to starve glioblastoma tumours of sugar and suppress cancer growth. Glioblastoma cells rely on high levels of glucose to spread, and they do so rapidly, making it difficult for doctors treat them.\n\nThe Glioblastomas reprogram their own metabolisms to enable fast and incurable growth, which is one of the reasons why this type of cancer is so dangerous. But the same activity that makes them so stubborn could also prove to be their downfall – flavopiridol is capable of specifically targeting this metabolic switching and, according to the new tests, cut off the tumour's energy supply.\n\nAnd \"The design of new flavopiridol-based formulations, aimed at starving cancer cells [by] cutting short the sugar they're addicted to, may open up new therapeutic avenues for patients with glioblastoma,\" <a href=\"http://www.newswise.com/articles/old-drug-could-fight-brain-cancer-by-starving-it-to-death\">said one of the researchers</a>, Antonio Giordano from the Sbarro Health Research Organisation (SHRO) in Philadelphia.\n\nFlavopiridol has been used to <a href=\"http://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB03496\">treat many types of cancer in the past</a>, including <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3210013/\">breast and prostate cancers</a>, and can be effective at <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15166614\">inhibiting cancer growth</a>and <a href=\"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12138401\">increasing the effectiveness of chemotherapy</a>. In other research, scientists at Duke University have <a href=\"https://today.duke.edu/2016/05/poliovirus\">been granted 'breakthrough' status</a> by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their work on a polio virus-related therapy to tackle the disease.\n\nThis special recognition from the FDA reflects the potential effectiveness of the new approach when compared to existing treatments.\n\nIn essence, the polio virus variation is <a href=\"http://www.cancer.duke.edu/btc/modules/Research3/index.php?id=41\">engineered to attack and kill off</a> the cancer cells, while leaving healthy cells ones alone – not an easy balancing act to pull off.\n\nWith both the Duke University project and flavopiridol discovery offering new avenues for glioblastoma treatment, let's hope in the years to come, the diagnoses for those contracting this type of brain cancer ends up looking a lot more positive.\n\nThe flavopiridol study has been <a href=\"http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcp.25421/abstract;jsessionid=39094FB6107DB59275F4FC2ED7F1A9C6.f01t02\">published in <em>The Journal of Cellular Physiology</em></a>.",

      "body": "![آدم خور.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQNNesphqJdTVhH6HSKpCYccepeTestQfStGMyEGrjsfA/%D8%A2%D8%AF%D9%85%20%D8%AE%D9%88%D8%B1.jpg)\n\nمیں نے اس قصے سے پہلے دریائے تلوادی ،اس کے نواحی پہاڑوں اور وادی کا ذکر کیا ہے۔یہ علاقہ نارتھ فارسٹ ڈویژن کے نہایت گنجان، خطرناک اور دشوار گزار علاقوں میں سے ہے۔میں نے جس مقام پر بیرا کو پکڑا تھا وہاں سے یہ دریا اور اسی نام کی وادی تقریباً گیارہ مل دور ہے۔درندوں ا ور دوسرے چھوٹے بڑے جانوروں کے علاوہ یہاں حشرات الارض خصوصاً سرخ اور پیلی مکڑیوں کی کثرت ہے۔اس لیے مقامی باشندے تلوادی کے علاقے کو ’’مکڑیوں کی بستی‘‘ بھی کہتے ہیں۔ان مکڑیوں کی لمبائی نو دس انچ تک ہوتی ہے اور ان کے بیضوی جالے بیس بیس فٹ چوڑے دیکھے گئے ہیں۔نہایت زہریلی ،تندخواور نڈر مکڑیاں ہیں۔آدمی کو کاٹ لیں اور اس کا بروقت علاج نہ کیا جائے تو چند گھنٹوں کے اندر اندر موت واقع ہو جاتی ہے۔یہ مکڑیاں آگ اور روشنی سے بہت ڈرتی ہیں۔\n\nلوگ اس علاقے میں جانے کی جرأت ہی نہیں کرتے۔ اگر کسی وجہ سے جانا پڑے تو ہاتھوں میں لمبی لمبی مشعلیں اٹھا لیتے ہیں۔کیونکہ مکڑیاں جابجا ملتی ہیں۔مقامی باشندوں کے خوف کھانے کی ایک بڑی وجہ یہ بھی ہے کہ مکڑیاں آدم خور ہیں۔بعض اوقات اکیلے آدمی کو جنگل میں گھیر کر کاٹ لیتی ہیں۔جب وہ مر جاتا ہے یا درد کی شدت سے بے ہوش ہو جاتا ہے تو اسے نوچ نوچ کر ہڑپ کر جاتی ہیں۔ایک مرتبہ میں نے اس علاقے سے گزرتے ہوئے ایسا ہی لرزہ خیز منظر دیکھا تھا۔ کسی آدمی کی بڑی ہوئی لاش پر بے شمار سرخ اور پیلی مکڑیاں ایک دوسرے کی جانی دشمن ہونے کے باوجود شکار کا گوشت مل جل کر کھاتی ہیں۔اگر ایسا موقع نہ ہو اور کوئی سرخ مکڑی پیلی مکڑی کے جالے میں چلی جائے تو جالے کی مالکہ فوراً اس کا حملہ کر دیتی ہے۔اپنا شکار مار ڈالنے کے بعد یہ مکڑیاں پہلے اس کا خون چوستی ہیں اور گوشت بعد میں کھاتی ہیں۔\n\nاس وادی کے ایک کنارے پر گوٹھی رین نام کی ایک خوبصورت پہاڑی ہے۔دریائے چنار اس پہاڑی کے نیچے سے گزرتا ہے۔یہاں ایک بستی آباد ہے جسے کمپی کاری کہتے ہیں۔کمپی کاری کے نواحی جنگل میں ہاتھیوں کی حکومت ہے۔مجھے یاد ہے چند سال پیشتر یہاں ایک مست ہاتھی نے خاصا ادھم مچایا تھا۔ اس نے نہ صرف پوری بستی تہس نہس کر دی بلکہ سات آدمی بھی مار ڈالے تھے۔ میں نے اس ہاتھی کو کیسے مارا، اس کی داستان پھر کبھی سناؤں گا۔ اس وقت تو وادی کے خونخوار ریچھوں اور مندا چی پالم کے آدم خور شیر کا ذکر کرتا ہوں جو میری شکاری زندگی کے ناقابل فراموش تجربات میں سرفہرست ہے۔\n\nتلوادی دراصل بانس کے درختوں کا گھنا جنگل ہے۔بعض مقامات پر بات سات آٹھ آٹھ فٹ اونچی گھاس بھی اگی ہوئی ہے جس کے ریشے ریزربلیڈ کی مانند تیز ہیں۔معمولی کپڑوں کا ذکر ہی کیا، چمڑے کا لباس بھی ان ریشوں سے رگڑ کھا کر چھلنی ہو جائے۔البتہ چکنے بال اور لباس پر یہ گھاس اثر نہیں کرتی۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ شیر اور چیتے بلکہ جنگلی بھینسے بھی اس گھاس کے اندر اطمینان سے گھس جاتے ہیں اور انہیں کوئی گزند نہیں پہنچتا۔ ان جانوروں کے علاوہ تلوادی جنگل ریچھوں،جنگل سوروں،سانبھروں بھونکنے والے ہرنوں اور ہاتھیوں کے لیے شہرت رکھتا ہے اور میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ جو شکاری اس جنگل میں آکر زندہ سلامت گھر لوٹ گیا وہ بڑا خوش نصیب ہے۔\n\nبیرا پجاری کو معلوم نہ تھا کہ میں اس جنگل کے چپے چپے سے واقف ہوں۔وہ مجھے ان بیوقوف اور اناڑی شکاریوں میں شمار کرتا تھا جو شیخی میں آن کر جنگل میں گھس جاتے ہیں اور کسی نہ کسی درندے کے ہاتھوں جان کھو بیٹھتے ہیں۔دراصل بیرا کو بندوق ہاتھ سے نکل جانے کا بڑا رنج تھا۔ پہلے تو اس نے منت سماجت سے مجھے رام کرنا چاہا لیکن میرے انکار اور ڈانٹ ڈپٹ سے ڈر گیا۔ اس کا خیال تھا کہ بڈھا شیر مار کر خوش ہو جاؤں گا مگر اس کی یہ توقع بھی پوری نہ ہوئی۔جھنجھلا کر اس نے مجھ سے انتقام لینے کی ٹھانی اور سوچا اس مردود کو تلوادی کا راستہ دکھایا جائے تاکہ اس بہانے اس کا قصہ تمام ہو جائے۔میں ہندو پجاریوں کی فطرت سے بخوبی آگاہ ہوں کیونکہ عمر عزیز کا نصف سے زیادہ حصہ انہی کے درمیان کاٹا ہے۔مجھے اچھی طرح معلوم ہے کہ ان کی کسی بات پر اعتماد نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔اس قوم کی فطرت میں دھوکا،فریب ،مکاری اور وعدہ خلاف کے عناصر کوٹ کوٹ کر بھرے ہیں۔نازک سے نازک موقعوں پر ساتھ چھوڑ دینا اور دغا دینا ان کا شیوہ ہے۔ابتداء میں میرے ہندو ملازموں اور راہبر شکاریوں نے مجھے دھوکے دیئے اور مجھے موت کے منہ میں چھوڑ کر بھاگتے رہے۔چنانچہ ان کی فطرت سے آگاہ ہو کر میں نے ہندو ملزم رکھنے چھوڑ دیے اور آئندہ طے کیا کہ اگر ان کی معیت میں جنگل کے اندر جانا پڑے تو خود پیچھے رہوں گا اور انہیں آگے بڑھایا کروں گا۔(جاری ہے)",

From a seemingly stable level at over $6,000 held for several months, BTC plunged to below $4,300 in a matter of days. The naysayers were rubbing their hands with glee leaving the hodlers feeling hungover.\n\nThe Holders of cryptocurrencies are not the only ones in pain right now, especially if they need to liquidate, as miners are also suffering while profits dwindle along with prices. A few short years Bitcoin mining has evolved from a bedroom activity for geeks on a gaming PC to a multi-billion dollar industry using dedicated computer machinery.\n\nAccording to the SCMP at least four mining machines are no longer profitable to operate consuming power at a rate of 6 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The estimates come from one of China’s largest mining pools, F2Pool. It's has suggested that the following units are no longer profitable to run; Antminer S7 and Antminer S9 from Bitmain Technologies and Canaan Creative’s AvalonMiner 741.\n\nThey two Beijing based companies are the world’s leading suppliers of mining rigs. Both Bitmain and Canaan, along with a third supplier, Ebang International, have filed for multi-million dollar IPOs in Hong Kong. Prospects are not looking good now for the mining monopolies as crypto markets shrunk by a third last week alone. The Canaan has already let is IPO application lapse.\n\nThe casualty list is increasing according to the report with Hong Kong based mining platform Suanlitou suspending contract based mining on the S9. The company admitted it was unable to cover management and electricity fees incurred by use of those machines for a 10-day period this month.\n\nMining factories across China are following suit with some already shutting down as many as 20,000 rigs due to power consumption and profitability issues. Others are seeing opportunity and buying up lower priced Antminers to sell on in countries where electricity is cheaper, or wait out the crypto winter.\n\nCrypto Twittersphere has over-reacted as usual with images such as this circulating, whereas these were in fact the aftermath of the Sichuan flooding in July as reported by Trustnodes.",

The thief, Nicholas Truglia, attempted to steal from other crypto bigwigs with no success.\n\nThe Robert Ross, a San Francisco-based angel investor involved in initial coin offering pre-sales, had his phone stolen by New York con man Nicholas Truglia. The subsequent swap of his SIM card rendered $500,000 from two separate accounts he had at Coinbase and Gemini, totaling $1 million, deputy DA Erin West of Santa Clara Superior Court told New York Post.\n\nA new way of doing an old crime. It’s a pervasive problem, and it involves millions of dollars […] You’re sitting in your home, your phone is in front of you, and you suddenly become aware there is no service because the bad guy has taken control of your phone number.”\n\nBesides the crypto angel investor,  twenty-one-year-old also hacked the phones of a number of executives in the cryptocurrency space, including the CEO of blockchain storage firm oChain, Saswata Basu, hedge fund executive Myles Danielsen, and Gabrielle Katsnelson, the co-founder of the startup SMBX. His other attempts, however, were unfruitful. Thief has been charged with 21 counts, including identity theft, fraud, embezzlement,  and attempted grand theft auto.\n\nDeputy DA told media that Truglia stole Robert Ross’ entire life savings, which were destined to his daughters’ college education. According to the authorities, the thief converted the cash to cryptocurrency and moved it into his personal account. After obtaining a warrant, officials searched Truglia’s 42nd Street high-rise in Manhattan only to recover $300,000 worth of crypto from a computer hard drive. Police do not expect to find the rest of the missing money, though.\n\nTruglia, who is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex, will be extradited to California in order to face the above mentioned 21 felony accounts related to a one-week hacking spree which made a total of six victims.\n\n    “The takeaway here to the hackers is, ‘We don’t care where you’re located, we are a task force based in Silicon Valley, and our reach is nationwide.”\n\nSIM Swap fraud has affected many investors in the cryptocurrency space in recent times.  In September, a prominent eSports gamer said “someone stole $200,000” from him in an analogous cybercrime. In August, American blockchain and crypto investor Michael Terpin filed a lawsuit against AT&T over a SIM swap hack worth around $23.8 million at the time.",

There has been no recovery from an epic dump down to a new yearly low yesterday as total market capitalization is still around $140 billion.\n\nThe Bitcoin has clawed back a couple of percent on the day to take it to $4,360 after dumping to a new low of $4,195 yesterday. The predictions are not pretty however and many expect BTC to drop to $3,000 in the coming months. Ethereum has made no recovery and is still at its lowest level for 18 months, trading at $125.\n\nThe Altcoins are largely green today as they small gains from a huge loss over the week. The top ten Monero is making the most headway as it adds 4% to take it to $66, Bitcoin Cash has also managed to pull 3% back on the day. The rest are up a percent or two aside from XRP which hasn’t moved.\n\nThere are a couple of movers in the top twenty right now, Iota is adding 6% but it is still at a very low level of $0.322. The Bitcoin Gold has made it to $20 with an 8% gain on the day and Neo has made almost 5% back. These gains are very insignificant however as most altcoins have lost as much as 40% over the past week or so.\n\nThere are only three cryptos with double digit gains in the top one hundred during the Asian trading session this morning. Although a geomagnetic storm is coming to the northern hemisphere, it sounds like a pretty mild one.\n\nAccording to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a minor geomagnetic storm watch is in effect for March 14 and 15. Meteorologists are predicting a G1-level storm - the lowest level on the solar storm scale, which peaks at G5.\n\nSolar storms often occur when the Sun belches out a flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME). The CME sends a gust of plasma and electromagnetic radiation out into space. If that occurs in Earth's direction, we can see the effects as the charged particles interact with our magnetosphere.\n\nThis forecast G1 storm is likely to be caused by a different phenomenon - a coronal hole. These are cooler, less dense regions of plasma and open magnetic fields.\n\nThese open structures allow the solar winds to escape more easily, which can blow electromagnatic radiation towards Earth if the hole is in the right position. Such holes are more usually seen during the Sun's less active Solar Minimum, the quiet period of our star's roughly 11-year cycle - which we are currently experiencing.\n\nIn fact, right now the Sun is behaving very quietly, reports the British Met Office.\n\n\"With no sunspot regions on the visible side of the Sun, solar activity was very low, with no flares observed,\" the space weather report for the past 24 hours reads.\n\n\"No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections were observed.\"\n\nSo what does this G1 storm mean for Earth? Not a lot, actually. There may be some very weak power grid fluctuations caused by small surges of geomagnetically induced current - you probably won't even notice them.\n\nThe NOAA also notes that there may be some minor disruptions to satellite operations, such as GPS signals and communications signals.\n\nAnd if you're far enough north, or perhaps in Antarctica (hi there!), you may get to feast your eyes on the aurora as the charged particles channelled towards the poles by Earth's magnetic field interact with the ionosphere. The NOAA has a very handy 30-minute aurora forecast map.\n\nSo no, the power grid isn't going to go out, and neither are the railways, and neither are telecommunications. Everything is absolutely fine, and you can continue to go about your life.\n\nOr as the Met Office puts it, \"solar activity is forecast to remain very low over the next four days, with no sunspot regions expected to develop or move onto the visible side of the Sun.\"",
