Well, I came close, but I never told you. The words tumbled to the edge and halted, suspended in the danger of losing whatever undefined, elusive thing we had going. It was so hard to be right next to you and pretend that I was detached when I wasn’t. Pretend that I didn’t notice when you said you missed this about my body and that about my body but that you never missed me.__\n\n*Pretend that I didn’t want to reach out and let my fingertips graze your temple anyway – feel your pulse, forge a connection that no one was permitted to see.*\n\n>I was never allowed to love you.\n\n_One text and my resolve would evaporate; you said you needed me, so I came. I crossed the threshold into our furtive little world. Not twelve hours later I would leave with the sunlight greeting me at the door and it would all come back, the silence, the indignation, the hurt – but it was all invisible, my own private pain._\n\n## You weren’t mine. I wasn’t yours.\n\n_I was never allowed to love you._\n\n## I permitted my hand to reach for my phone before I hastily retracted it. I couldn’t reach for you. I acted as if you disappearing for weeks and reappearing with no explanation didn’t trouble me, didn’t make me feel inadequate. I asked once.\n\n>>“This is not the time. This is not discreet.”\n\n## I didn’t ask again.\n\n>I was never allowed to love you.\n\n**Everything was shrouded in secrecy; the novelty wore off quicker than I cared for it to. But my own will to be openly loved never superseded my desire to be loved by you behind closed doors. Did you love me? I don’t know, but I loved you. Is it possible to grieve the dissolution of a relationship that never actually was? Before he knew it, he had tied himself into one massive knot, and he couldn't move. He simply thanked the fish, and quickly swam off.**\n> Later, the octopus spent the whole night thinking that he had wasted a great opportunity to make friends with that very kind little fish.\n\n__A couple of days later the octopus was resting between some rocks, when he noticed that everyone around was hurriedly swimming past. He looked into the distance and saw an enormous fish coming over to feed in that area.__\n\n___The octopus quickly hid; then, peeping an eye out from his hiding place, he saw that the huge fish was chasing the kind little fish who had untied him. That little fish really needed urgent help, but the big fish was so dangerous-looking that no one dared to go near.___\n\n***The octopus, remembering how the little fish had helped him, felt that he had to do whatever he could to come to his aid.\nWithout hesitating, the octopus shot out from the rocks, like a ray. \nHe put himself right in the path of the giant fish, and before the fish could do anything about it, the octopus had shot out the biggest jet of ink of his life. He grabbed the little fish, and swam off back to hide in the rocks.***\n\n__Everything happened so fast that the big fish had no time to react. However, he soon recovered from the surprise. Off he went to the rocks, looking for the octopus and the little fish. Now he really wanted to gobble them down!\nSoon, though, he began feeling a terrible itch; first in his gills, and then in his fins, and then all over his body. It turned out that this giant fish had a very artistic nature, he adored colours; and the octopus's dark ink had given him a terrible allergy!!__\n\n*So the big fish swam away, irritated all over.\nAs soon as he was gone, all the fish who had been hiding came and congratulated the octopus for being so brave. Then the little fish told them all how he had helped the octopus a few days earlier, but he had never known anyone be so grateful that they would end up doing something so dangerous.*\n## Hearing this, the other fish discovered how nice the shy octopus was, and everyone around was keen to be the friend of such a brave and honourable octopus.\n\n__The Ocptopus respond thanks for being there for me when I really needed you.
