      "body": "Es un singular fenómeno meteorológico que se produce en el sur en la cuenca del lago de Maracaibo en el Estado Zulia, Venezuela, cuyo nombre deriva del río Catatumbo. Este fenómeno se caracteriza por ser un relámpago casi continuado y silente que se produce en nubes de gran desarrollo vertical formando arcos eléctricos entre los 2 y los 10 kilómetros de altura (o más). Científicos del Centro de Modelado Científico indican que lo más apropiado sería hablar de los relámpagos del Catatumbo, debido a que tienden a ocurrir en múltiples sitios cada noche, pero desde lejos se aprecian como si fuera un único fenómeno. Es uno de los 5 fenómenos naturales más conocidos a nivel mundial.\n\nTiene una ocurrencia anual de 140 a 160 noches o más, durando hasta 10 horas por noche y produce hasta 280 descargas por hora. Además, estas tormentas eléctricas producen un elevado porcentaje de toda la capa de ozono generada a escala mundial por lo que el relámpago del Catatumbo puede considerarse como uno de los principales regeneradores individuales de la capa de ozono del planeta, produciendo aproximadamente 1.176.000 descargas eléctricas atmosféricas. \nOrigen\nEl origen de este fenómeno está en el efecto orográfico de estas cordilleras que encierran y frenan los vientos del noreste; así, se producen nubes de gran desarrollo vertical, concentradas principalmente en la cuenca del río Catatumbo. Este fenómeno es muy fácil de ver desde cientos de kilómetros de distancia, como desde Cúcuta, en Colombia, o desde el propio lago (donde no suelen presentarse nubes durante la noche). Por ello, también se conoce como el Faro de Maracaibo, ya que las embarcaciones que surcaban la zona podían navegar durante la noche sin problemas en la época de la navegación a vela. Puede ocurrir hasta 260 veces al año y dura hasta 10 horas por noche; además, este fenómeno puede alcanzar las 60 descargas por minuto.\nAunque es cierto que las tormentas eléctricas producen una elevada cantidad de ozono, y el Catatumbo registra la mayor densidad de descargas eléctricas del mundo, con más de 200/km²/año,123 es muy poco probable que este ozono llegue a la estratósfera y regenere la capa de ozono. \n\nImpacto social y turístico\n\nEl relámpago del Catatumbo es admirado por la sociedad venezolana, en especial en el estado noroccidental del Zulia, el cual tiene un rayo en su escudo oficial para simbolizar al fenómeno. This phenomenon is characterized by an almost continuous and silent lightning that occurs in clouds of great vertical development forming electric arcs between 2 and 10 kilometers in height (or more). Scientists from the Scientific Modeling Center indicate that it would be more appropriate to talk about the Catatumbo lightning bolts, because they tend to occur in multiple places every night, but from a distance they are seen as a single phenomenon. It is one of the 5 most known natural phenomena worldwide.\n\n\n\nIt has an annual occurrence of 140 to 160 nights or more, lasting up to 10 hours per night and produces up to 280 downloads per hour. Competing with its magnitude with the different national parks as they are:\n Northeastern Greenland National Park (Greenland / Denmark)\n Wrangell-San Elías National Park and Reserve (United States)\n Namib-Naukluft National Park (Namibia)\n Búfalo de los Bosques National Park (Canada)\n Tumucumaque Mountains National Park (Brazil)\n Parima-Tapirapeco National Park (Venezuela)\n Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (South Africa and Botswana)\n Quttinirpaaq National Park (Canada)\n Salonga National Park (Democratic Republic of the Congo)\n Bernardo O'Higgins National Park (Chile)\n Puertas del Arctic national park and reserve (United States)\n Beringuia National Park (Russia)\nAbout 65% of the park is occupied by rock plateaus called tepuyes. These constitute a unique biological medium, also presenting a great geological interest. Its steep cliffs and its waterfalls (including Angel Falls, which is the highest waterfall in the world, at 1283 m).\n\n\nFauna\nCanaima has a very varied fauna, which is distributed throughout the park according to multiple environmental factors such as height and type of vegetation. Geologically they constitute remains of a sedimentary cover formed by very old sandstone that is superimposed on a base of igneous rocks (granite, mainly) that is even older (almost 3,000 million years). On its summits inhabits a very important amount of very specific endemic species, both plants and animals. Some endemic plant species are categorized as \"carnivorous\", which find in this way, a provision of food (insects, mainly) that are so scarce in the summits. These formations have a geological age that ranges between 1 500 and 2 000 million years, which makes them one of the oldest formations on the planet. The best-known tepuyes are: the Auyantepuy (from where the Angel Falls), El Roraima, El Kukenan and El Chimantá among many others. The mountain range of Rinocote, is a mountainous formation the same one includes from Mount Roraima, including the mountain ranges of Supamo and Carapo.
