Para Gradgrind, la imaginación, así como las artes y las humanidades eran lujosas irrelevancias. Dickens parecía dar carne literaria a un desafortunado pensamiento de Hume: </div><br>\n<div class=\"text-justify\">“¿Contiene algún razonamiento abstracto sobre la cantidad y el número? No. ¿Contiene algún razonamiento experimental acerca de cuestiones de hecho o existencia? No. Tírese entonces (ese libro) a las llamas, pues no puede contener más que sofistería e ilusión”. </div> <br>\n\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\"> Por lo antes expresado,  por estas  teorías  de intolerancia contra la sensibilidad y la imaginación, suenan como música las frases de Einstein: “La imaginación es más importante que el conocimiento” o “La experiencia más hermosa que podemos tener es el misterio. Cada una tiene una función diferente y, a la vez, complementaria. A pesar de su importancia para la constitución del ser humano, la humanidad han tenido feroces enemigos en la historia.</div> <br>.\n\n<a href=\"https://imgur.com/pqzuBsv\"><img src=\"https://i.imgur.com/pqzuBsv.jpg\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" /></a>\n\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\">El mecanicismo cartesiano, La alienación contras la humanidad, La tecnocracia totalitaria. </div> <br>.\n<div class=\"text-justify\">En defensa de la humanidad existen dos formas de defenderla. Una es la estrategia que sigue David Roochnik, quien reafirma la aparente inutilidad de la humanidad. Ellas no sirven para lograr cosas diferentes de sí mismas. Su función es hacernos más humanos, no más ricos ni más poderosos. La otra forma es la que desarrolla Martha Nussbaum (Sin fines de lucro, 2010). Según esta autora, las humanidades son útiles para la consolidación de las libertades y la democracia. Una sociedad saludablemente democrática exige mentes independientes y creativas que poseen el carácter y la confianza para resistir la autoridad arbitraria y los abusos jerárquicos.</div> <br>.\n\n<a href=\"https://imgur.com/oEvCeId\"><img src=\"https://i.imgur.com/oEvCeId.jpg\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" /></a>\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\">Estas  estrategias son igualmente válidas. La primera acentúa el papel de las humanidad en la vida individual. La segunda destaca el aspecto social: robustece la conciencia política. For Gradgrind, imagination, as well as the arts and humanities, were luxurious irrelevancies. Dickens seemed to give literary flesh to an unfortunate thought of Hume:\n\"Does it contain any abstract reasoning about quantity and number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning about issues of fact or existence? The goal is to transcend the given and the material utility, to go in search of the value of life. Despite its importance for the constitution of the human being, humanity has had ferocious enemies in history.</div><br><br>\n\n\n<a href=\"https://imgur.com/pqzuBsv\"><img src=\"https://i.imgur.com/pqzuBsv.jpg\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" /></a>\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\"> The Cartesian mechanism,  the alienation against the humanity, the totalitarian technocracy.</div><br>\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\"> In defense of humanity there are two ways to defend it. One is the strategy followed by David Roochnik, who reaffirms the apparent uselessness of humanity. They do not serve to achieve things other than themselves. Its function is to make us more human, not richer or more powerful. The other form is developed by Martha Nussbaum (Non-profit, 2010). According to this author, the humanities are useful for the consolidation of freedoms and democracy. A healthy democratic society requires independent and creative minds that possess the character and confidence to resist arbitrary authority and hierarchical abuses.</div><br><br>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https://imgur.com/ktpE5HY\"><img src=\"https://i.imgur.com/ktpE5HY.jpg\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" /></a>\n\n\n<div class=\"text-justify\"> These strategies are equally valid. The first emphasizes the role of the humanity  in individual life. The second highlights the social aspect: it strengthens political consciousness.
