      "body": "**O**n short term basis Bitcoin prices might be sweet, but professor Kenneth Rogoff who's an Harvard economist has an ill prediction for the next ten years. \nDuring an interview this week, prof Rogoff suggested that in the next ten years, Bitcoin will probably be worth only a small fraction of what it’s worth today. Prof Rogoff stated: \n>“Even if the U.S. cracks down on it and China cracks down, but Japan doesn’t, people will be able to still launder money through Japan.”\n\nHe further commented: \n>“If you take away the possibility of [Bitcoin] money laundering and tax evasion, its actual uses as a transaction vehicle are very small\".\n\nFrom Rogoff comments, he suggested that at the moment the key to bitcoins success are money laundering and tax invasion. \n\nWhen on the other hand bitcoin has been associated with unlawful transactions, the estimates of digital currency used in illegal activities varies in proportion. The co-founder and president of Blockchain Intelligence Group, Shone Anstey reckoned that in 2016 the level of illegal transactions in bitcoin had fallen to 20 percent and in 2017 it was \"significantly less than that\". \n\nOne has to concede to the idea that the wholeness of the internet would need to be regulated before transactions with Bitcoin were impossible. \nAccording to Rogoff, one reason authorities have been slow in regulating bitcoin is due to the prospect of the technology behind the digital currency. \n\nThe economist has pointed to cryptocurrency prices falling on several occasions. It is what one delivers. \nAs an example, energy is used for moving or pushing things. The thing might be a car moving down the highway or lighting the night. \n\nIf an object is capable of doing work, it is said to have energy. Therefore, energy can be transferred from one form to another, such that the object which do the work, loses energy and the object on which work is done gains it.\nEnergy has several different measuring units which are joules, BTUs, newton-meters, calories and even watt-hour when talking about electrical energy. \nNote that a thousand watts for one hour, is one kilowatt-hour. \nThey’re the same amount of energy.\n\n#### <center>Power Definition</center>\n\nPower is the rate at which an object performs an activity. \nIn science, power is a measure, which determines the speed of performing work. \nPower is the rate of energy per unit time. \nThe standard unit of power is Watt, which equals to Joules per second.\nPower is a quantity associated with time. For example, in a 100m race three athletes A, B and C started running in which A completed the race in 14 secs, B in 9 secs and C in 12 secs. The three athletes all use the same energy in completing the race but the difference is in their power applied by them.\n\nHere's a difference between energy and power. \nEnergy indicates how much work a person can do. Whereas power is a representation of how quickly work can be done. \n\nEnergy changes form. It is neither generated or destroyed but it is turned from one form to another, according to the law of conservation of energy. Power does not change form. It can't be transformed from one body to another.       "body": "**Y**ou must have heard about the term Internet of Things or IoT for short and probably some examples of applications and devices like Smart locks, smart thermostats, smart cars. \n<center>![iot.0.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR4JchXaa2mSWuySK8Xy9DGpUMr2a1tNJzHRvuDwFNZ93/iot.0.jpg)</center>[*image*](https://www.recode.net/2015/1/15/11557782/a-beginners-guide-to-understanding-the-internet-of-things)\n\nBasically, Internet of Things refers to the interconnection of computer devices embedded into everyday objects with the aid of the Internet enabling it to send and receive data. \nOver the coming years IoT is expected to spread at a blistering pace and this convergence will bring about a new dimension of services that improve the quality of life of consumers and industrialist.\n\nThese devices, are mostly called \"smart\" devices, sometimes it can send signals to other related devices, and act on the information they get from one another a process known as machine-to-machine (M2M) communication - a subset of the IOT. \n\n#### <center>How does IoT work</center>\n\nA complete IoT system has four distinct integral components such as sensors/devices, connectivity, data processing, and a user interface.\n\nThe sensor/devices in a way “talk” to the cloud through some kind of connectivity. Once the data or information gets to the cloud, software performs some kind of processing on it and then might decide to perform an action, such as automatically adjusting the sensors/devices without the help of a user.\nA user interface allows the user to simply check in on the system whenever the user input is needed. If the user takes any action on the system, then it would be sent in the reverse direction through the system, that is, from the user interface, to the cloud, and back to the sensors/devices to make some kind of change.\n\n#### <center>How it’s being used Today</center>\n\nA very good example is the Nest thermostat. A device beautifully designed to help save energy and keep you comfortable. This device is Wi-Fi-connected therefore allowing you to remotely control it from anywhere via your mobile device. \nIt also has a convenience factor in that it can automatically turn down the temperature before going to bed. After a weeks usage it programs itself and starts building your schedule. \n\nAnother example is [SmartThings](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SmartThings), a company acquired by Samsung. This device consists of various sensors and smart-home kits which can monitor things like who is entering in and going out of your house. \n\nOn a societal note, it is being used by cities to monitor things like the number of parking spaces that are available and traffic regulation.\n\n#### <center>Companies working on IoT</center>\n\nThere are several companies working on the IoT products ranging from smaller and start up companies to Big names like Samsung, LG, Apple, Google, Lowe’s and Philips. A research group Gartner predicts that by the year 2020 25 billion connected devices will be in use. \n\n#### <center>Security and Privacy</centre>\n\nMany persons are being worried about the potential risk of personal data getting into the wrong hands because of the various amounts of data collected by smart home devices, connected cars and wearables. The increased number of access points also poses a security risk.\n\nThe Federal Trade Commission FTC,  has shown concerns, and has advised that companies take several precautionary steps in order to protect their customers. Anyway, it’s unclear how many companies will heed its advice, since the FTC doesn’t have the authority to enforce regulations on IoT devices. \nWell, most companies have all said that security and privacy were of the utmost importance. For example, Apple requires that companies should include end-to-end encryption and authentication and a privacy policy whenever products are being developed for its Homekit. The company also mentioned that anything related to HomeKit accessories it doesn’t collect any customer data. \n\nThe idea of IoT has been in existence for years and it’s just entering the consumer market, and the category has yet to reach a final or desired state. But there are good products out there already.
