permlinkhow-to-figure-out-the-value-of-your-time
titleHow to figure out the value of your time?
bodyOver the years I have learned to appreciate the value of time more than the value of money. I am writing a whole blog about money, so money is absolutely important in my eyes: You need money for housing, basic necessities (clothing, food,...), having 3-6 months worth of expenses in the bank will give you peace of mind, the bigger your bank account the more choices you will have,... The thing is, with money you can lose some then make some again, make more, make even more and there are virtually no limits to how much you can make. With time it is different: You can waste plenty of time binge-watching re-runs of Desperate Housewives on a rainy Saturday afternoon but you cannot recover that time or make more time. No matter who you are, where you live, we all have the same 24 hours a day. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">&quot;Your time is finite, your income opportunities are infinite&quot; - Joney Talks, 2017</p>&mdash; Joney Talks! (@jon_verhaeghe) <a href="https://twitter.com/jon_verhaeghe/status/832506171206561792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 17, 2017</a></blockquote> With that in mind, it is easy to realize that your time becomes even more precious. **Time is money** You have probably heard it from friends or family before: "I make 50 thousand euros a year, so one hour of my time is worth 25 euros" (quick back-of-the-napkin calculation: divide your yearly wage by 2 and remove three zeros). Okay, your friends or family members might not be so open about their income but this is how most people calculate their time. While it makes sense for the time spent at work, I always thought there was something wrong with that approach for the simple reason that I do not work in my free time. If we remove the passive income streams ([rental of garages](https://joneytalks.com/2016/10/13/garage-inv/), dividend income,...) I do not make a single cent. **So, what is a better way to put a figure on my free time, how can I value it?** ![grass-clock-time-recreation-toy-rabbit-minute-disney-alice-in-wonderland-hurry-easter-easter-bunny-disneyland-inflatable-hours-on-time-time-management-stuffed-toy-rabits-and-hares-too-late-783521](https://joneytalks.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/grass-clock-time-recreation-toy-rabbit-minute-disney-alice-in-wonderland-hurry-easter-easter-bunny-disneyland-inflatable-hours-on-time-time-management-stuffed-toy-rabits-and-hares-too-late-783521.jpg) "I'm late, I'm late!" **Why is that even important to know?** You are probably not a numbers nerd like me but how you value your free time will help you in making decisions which will then **free up time for doing the things you enjoy.** Here are a few decisions where the test will help you * It is late and you are going home, should you take a taxi which will save you 20 minutes compared to the bus? * Does it make sense to hire a cleaning lady charging 15 euros per hour? To me this is a no-brainer, I have hired one ever since I bought my first property. I am not lazy, I am highly [value-negative](https://growthlab.com/how-to-use-money-to-buy-back-your-time/) on cleaning, period. But am I paying too much according to my free time value? This I do not know. * How long should you debate over buying a 20 euros purchase? Raise your hand if you think you sometimes spend too much time comparing two Airbnb options with little price difference. (You cannot see me but I am raising my hand too!) * You found a side-gig that will pay you 20 euros per hour, should you go for it? * Should you buy a Flash-pass at Six-flags and save your standing in line time? * Should you buy gas 9 minutes away because it is ten cents a gallon cheaper? Below is the comic you will find during the test **The ultimate test** As I was asking our friend Google how to figure out the value of my time I found [this free test](http://programs.clearerthinking.org/what_is_your_time_really_worth_to_you.html#.W-IOtS17QW9) by Clearer Thinking and it gave me exactly what I was looking for. Here is how they describe it : > _“This tool will ask a series of questions to help you estimate how much money each hour is worth to you, so that you can make wiser decisions about how to spend that time. It'll also provide you with a customized report based on your results that highlights any inconsistencies in your answers and makes concrete suggestions for applying your newfound knowledge in your daily life.”_ > _“So if you currently work 35 hours a week, for instance, this tool will estimate how much money you'd need to put in a 36th hour of work. Here's another way to think of the same idea: the additional hour value of your time is the amount of money you'd pay to free up an hour of time.”_ Fantastic, this is exactly what I wanted to know! The test took approximately 10 minutes (probably the best 10 minutes you will invest in a test this year) and by walking me through different scenarios gave me the answer to **how much my free time is worth to me**. My result was 60 euros per hour. If we take the examples above this means that * My cleaning lady's rate is 13 euros per hour, that is perfect: she does it better than me, she enjoys it and she charges below 60 euros per hour. * In 2011 I had a side job at a Technical Stock Analysis firm next to my full-time job, while I enjoyed the work and the colleagues there, I was paid far below the 60 euros per hour. Something for me and you to think about if we are planning to earn additional income. * I have improved my decision-taking time when buying stuff over the years but knowing I should not spend more than 20 minutes on a 20 euros purchase will help me greatly. Ironically, some people spend less than 1 hour on deciding to purchase a 300 000 Eur home! * In 2011, I went to Magic Mountains with my buddy Gérard and although we found it ridiculous at first we ended up buying the flash-pass. I do not remember the exact price but from the current prices, I would deduct that it cost us approximately 60 dollars each. In hindsight it was a great investment in our free time: We did all the rides we wanted to and saved more than 1 hour in the queues for sure. And there are plenty of other situations that will be more relevant to you : * Hiring someone to mow the lawn so you can spend your Saturday afternoon with the kids. * Pay a premium to have your groceries delivered at home so you can go straight home after work, skip the lines, the traffic and [read that awesome book](https://joneytalks.com/books/)! * Have an accountant file your yearly tax declaration for a mere 50 euros, saving you hours and hours of boring research and telephone calls to the tax authorities so you can relax and have that date night with your spouse. * etc. Of course, once you have completed the test you will need to see for yourself according to your situation if the suggestion makes sense. If you have to choose between paying your phone bill or hiring a gardener to mow your lawn, pay your bill and do it yourself. Even if your time is worth 30 euros an hour to you. **What now?** ![antique-blur-classic-1095602.jpg](https://i2.wp.com/joneytalks.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/antique-blur-classic-1095602.jpg?ssl=1&w=756) Photo by Jordan Benton What are you waiting for? "body": "Over the years I have learned to appreciate the value of time more than the value of money. I am writing a whole blog about money, so money is absolutely important in my eyes: You need money for housing, basic necessities (clothing, food,...), having 3-6 months worth of expenses in the bank will give you peace of mind, the bigger your bank account the more choices you will have,...\n\nThe thing is, with money you can lose some then make some again, make more, make even more and there are virtually no limits to how much you can make. With time it is different: You can waste plenty of time binge-watching re-runs of Desperate Housewives on a rainy Saturday afternoon but you cannot recover that time or make more time. No matter who you are, where you live, we all have the same 24 hours a day. \n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;Your time is finite, your income opportunities are infinite&quot; - Joney Talks, 2017</p>&mdash; Joney Talks! **So, what is a better way to put a figure on my free time, how can I value it?**\n\n![grass-clock-time-recreation-toy-rabbit-minute-disney-alice-in-wonderland-hurry-easter-easter-bunny-disneyland-inflatable-hours-on-time-time-management-stuffed-toy-rabits-and-hares-too-late-783521](https://joneytalks.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/grass-clock-time-recreation-toy-rabbit-minute-disney-alice-in-wonderland-hurry-easter-easter-bunny-disneyland-inflatable-hours-on-time-time-management-stuffed-toy-rabits-and-hares-too-late-783521.jpg) \"I'm late, I'm late!\"\n\n**Why is that even important to know?** \n\nYou are probably not a numbers nerd like me but how you value your free time will help you in making decisions which will then **free up time for doing the things you enjoy.** Here are a few decisions where the test will help you\n\n* It is late and you are going home, should you take a taxi which will save you 20 minutes compared to the bus?\n* Does it make sense to hire a cleaning lady charging 15 euros per hour? titleThe journey to start a small online company and why I joined the e-residency programme
bodyIf you are a digital mobile “micropreneur” like me, chances are you have heard of, and are considering the e-residency programme from Estonia as well. Indeed through their e-residency programme that was launched in 2014, Estonia is welcoming digital entrepreneurs to establish their small business online and to manage it remotely. _“As of June 2018, over 41,000 people from over 160 countries have applied for e-Residency — and over 39,000 of them have already received their digital ID cards. A whopping 3,977 of them have established a new company in Estonia, and there are more than 5,900 Estonian companies in total that have at least one e-Resident owner or board member.” (_[_Source_](https://www.leapin.eu/articles/e-residency)_: What is Estonian e-Residency and how to take advantage of it?)_ <div class="aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked"> <div class="progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded" data-image-id="1*BGgTYP5p1I3FiLjrG-keOw.png" data-width="797" data-height="599" data-action="zoom" data-action-value="1*BGgTYP5p1I3FiLjrG-keOw.png" data-scroll="native"> ![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*BGgTYP5p1I3FiLjrG-keOw.png)</div> </div> In my case, I first read of the Estonian e-residency programme in a plane magazine in 2016 and it got my interest right away. I had been visiting Estonia a few times and know it was a pretty welcoming and Tech-friendly country: Think free Wi-Fi everywhere or companies such as Skype, Transferwise, Pipedrive,... I thought the idea of a digital nation and managing one’s company remotely sounded great but I had no use for it back then. So after finishing the article I just put the magazine back into its tray, switched to another book, landed safely in Paris and forgot about it, or so I thought… Later on, in 2016, I launched my Personal Finance blog ([www.joneytalks.com](http://www.joneytalks.com/)) and since recently it started to generate revenues! (Yaay!) The time is thus ripe to either establish a company and become a small entrepreneur in the country I am living inor to join the e-residency programme I read about 2 years ago,… And yes after a lot of research I went for the e-residency option! Along with the almost 4000 e-entrepreneurs, You are probably excited too about launching your own small business and are wondering 1. Why should I start my company in Estonia? Is this right for me? 2. How to actually start up my company in Estonia? 3. How safe is all of this? **Why should I start my company in Estonia?** The e-residency programme as mentioned above is aimed at mobile entrepreneurs looking at managing their company remotely from any place in the world. For those of you who have been following the blog, you know this resonates with my lifestyle: I started the blog when I was living in Paris, carried on while I moved back to Norway and recently [moved to Luxembourg](https://joneytalks.com/2018/04/22/little-announcement-for-joneytalks-major-life-changes-for-jonathan/),…oh yes and I am Belgian. The reasons for me to choose for this set-up instead of starting a company in Luxembourg (which is also entrepreneur-friendly) is mainly twofold : * The location-dependent part and being part of a digital nation I applied for the e-residency while still living in Norway and was considering to move out of the country and at the same time start my own small business. Estonia is the synonym to me of a forward-thinking country in terms of the way they approach entrepreneurship and embrace new technology. This fits perfectly with my location-independent mindset. * Simplicity Once you have the e-residency accepted by the Estonian authorities, you are entitled to take the next steps to establish your company. I started that process once in Luxembourg and despite the Luxembourgish entrepreneur-friendly environment, I went for the Estonian-based company mainly since it was so simple to find the information quickly and the administration part, thanks to [**LeapIN**](http://www.leapin.eu/), felt like a breeze. Since the blog is currently a side activity to my main job, the less time I spend on admin and accounting, the better. So it looks as if I found my perfect match, but would the e-residency set-up work for your small business? It will work for you if * You are a digital entrepreneur: Blogger, App developer, you sell online services/products, etc. * You are a solopreneur, freelancer, offer consulting services, etc. and can do it from anywhere on the planet. * You are looking at growing your company in a tax-efficient manner: One of the greatest competitive advantage as well of launching your company in Estonia is that as long as you do not distribute profits as dividends or income, the corporate tax is 0%. This means that in the startup phase you can focus on growth and reinvest all profits in the company. * You currently reside outside of the EU, are struggling to start your business in your home country and/or you are looking at expanding to the EU market benefiting from an EU-based legal system to do business. LeapIN told me the story of some Brazilian e-residents that took the trip to Estonia just to visit the Estonian bank and flew back after a couple of hours. They claimed to have saved both time and money by creating their online company thanks to the e-residency programme! It will not work for you if * You want to sell physical products, this is mainly due to VAT issues which are difficult to handle. It is not impossible but it will be a lot of hassle, LeapIN currently does not support this type of business for instance. * Your company needs permanent premises in another country (a factory, a restaurant, a barber shop, a laundromat,…). The company will then be deemed taxable in its country of residence. * You want Estonian residency and travel VISA-free in the EU. The e-residency offers access to the digital services (online taxes, digital signatures,… ) but the e-residency card is in no way a travel document, nor does it confer Estonian citizenship. * You are looking at avoiding taxes in your country of residence. E-residency does not confer tax residency similar to the point above. For more on taxes, this [article](https://micropreneur.life/eresident-taxes-vat/) by Entrepreneur Ignacio (or Nacho) is the best and most complete resource I have found! **How to actually start my company in Estonia?** The process is absolutely simple and straightforward here are the 5 (or 4) steps to follow : 1. First things first, **apply for e-Residency** [here](https://apply.gov.ee/). No surprises, fill out the form, pay the 100 EUR subscription and provide the necessary details. You will then get an e-mail confirmation that your application has been submitted and that the Estonian Police and Board Guard will keep you informed further. I did it on the 19th of January. 2. **Pick up your card**. My application was approved on the 2nd of March and it was sent to the Estonian embassy in Oslo on the 13th of March, I went to pick it up the 19th of March. Depending on where you apply from and if there is an Estonian embassy nearby or not you might need to travel to pick up your card. So, all in all, it took 2 months from the application until the receipt of the card. If you made it here as well, Congratulations! You achieved the biggest step! Now you can start setting up your remote Estonian-based company. 3. **Register your company**. There are a few players out there that can help you here. Since I did not want to make it complicated for myself and overthink it I went with [LeapIN](https://www.leapin.eu/) which seemed reliable and enjoys a very positive feedback. To be honest I did not find any negatives during my search online. Once you register the onboarding will be very straightforward, the interface user-friendly, once again hassle-free just the way I like it! You pay the registration fees the company (190 EUR state fee for registering, 25 EUR state service fee for company online registration in Estonian Business Registry and your first month as a LeapIN user 49 EUR), you fill out info about the purpose of your company, you choose your future million-dollar company name, it gets reviewed and after a few days there you go, you are in bizniss my friend! This process took me 1 week and I was helped all along by their onboarding staff. 4. Now that your business is ready, you need to **choose your business banking system**. You can choose [Holvi](https://about.holvi.com/), [Transferwise](https://transferwise.com/) or the Estonian bank LHV (LeapIN’s banking partner). With Holvi and Transferwise you can apply and manage everything without setting foot in Estonia, with LHV you will need to come physically to Estonia for a face to face meeting with a bank representative. I went for the latter as I would like to distribute dividends which is not possible with the other banking solutions, depending on how things go I might reinvest part of the profits furthermore as an EU bank your account is backed up to 100 000 EUR. This is not the case with Holvi or Transferwise. You can also start with Holvi and then switch to LHV, if you plan to travel to Europe later on but cannot wait to get started with your new venture! Here is a short comparative table LeapIN compiled. <div class="aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked"> <div class="progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded" data-image-id="1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png" data-width="832" data-height="729" data-action="zoom" data-action-value="1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png" data-scroll="native"> ![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png)</div> </div> Source: [The Ultimate Guide to e-Residency and Borderless Business Banking — Your Options](https://blog.leapin.eu/ultimate-guide-to-e-residency-and-borderless-business-banking-your-options-b21647958a1) 5\. Travel to Estonia and open your bank account at LHV if you choose to do so. If you have not traveled to Estonia before, I’d recommend you visit the country where your business is established. I went last week and it was a joy again to be there. The people are welcoming and friendly, I personally have some long-time friends I had the chance to meet, the old town in Tallinn is absolutely charming and I also took the opportunity to meet the people at LeapIN. Oh, and I almost forgot, the travel costs and accommodation for this trip are considered business expenses (I double checked with my LeapIN accountant :). In total it will cost you 364 EUR and depending on your choice of business banking solution, it will take you approximately 2,5–3 months from the moment you apply for e-residency until your company is up and running. **Is it all safe?** If you are not familiar with Estonia, it might seem strange to establish your business in an unfamiliar place. Rest assured, Estonia is one of Europe’s fastest growing economy, according to [Eurostat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurostat "Eurostat"), Estonia had the lowest ratio of government debt to GDP among EU countries at 9.4% at the end of 2017\. This is what you will find on the [economy of Estonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Estonia) page in Wikipedia: “_A balanced budget, almost non-existent public debt, flat-rate income tax, free trade regime, competitive commercial banking sector, innovative e-Services and even mobile-based services are all hallmarks of Estonia’s market economy._” Sounds good Jonathan, what about the service providers? LHV and LeapIN, are those reliable? **LHV Bank** As per now, LHV is the only physical “traditional” bank that is accepting e-residents as customers. And yes I checked for myself: They are a real bank and have offices in downtown Tallinn and Tartu. <div class="aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked"> <div class="progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded" data-image-id="1*Kp7r6orm-qnrfNIfDhcdug.png" data-width="506" data-height="799" data-scroll="native"> ![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*Kp7r6orm-qnrfNIfDhcdug.png)</div> I personally went to the Tallinn office which was the main purpose of my visit. The process went smooth, the lady I spoke to just asked a few KYC (Know Your Customer) questions confirming what LeapIN already had communicated to them. And after about 20 minutes I received a bunch of papers and my business bank card (Woohooo!). The bank has a startup mindset and is eager to attract new customers, that is why they are the only bank accepting e-residents. The traditional ones Nordea, SEB, and Swedbank will require you to have a proven “connection to Estonia” or simply refuse your application. **LeapIN** You can already read quite a lot about it through their own [blog](https://blog.leapin.eu/) and their [FAQ](https://www.leapin.eu/faq), they already provide so much value without you even being a customer that it felt right to have my admin managed by them. What LeapIN will do for you is to help you set up your company, apply for a bank account at LHV, provide you with a virtual address and be the contact person in Estonia, do the accounting, and ensure compliance. Their main office is located in the Ülemitse area close to the airport. Since I was in Tallinn anyway, I reached out to them to ask for a short meeting and so I had the chance to meet with Kadi and Meelik. <div class="aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked"> <div class="progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded" data-image-id="1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg" data-width="4032" data-height="3024" data-action="zoom" data-action-value="1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg" data-scroll="native"> ![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg)</div> </div> Here is a little summary of our discussion : * The start-up was founded 3 years ago and is growing rapidly, it counts about 50 employees (!) and is spread over two sites: Tallinn and Tartu (this is where most of the accounting is). * Regarding the customer base it is about [1400](https://www.leapin.eu/articles/15-things-to-know) but as per today it lies around 1500 (Source: LeapIN) and it is still growing every month. (I also complimented them on their marketing as they are everywhere) * Their focus is principally focused on digital businesses and the majority of their customers are single company owners. Their customer base is literally global, they have customers from Brazil, Ukraine, Thailand, Germany,… * From their customers’ survey it seems that their customers are extremely satisfied. * The most visible changes we should see as customers in the near future are an improved user interface, an even faster processing of information (improved automation) and there are also plans for integrating an own business-banking system (whether that means to have to have a face-2-face meeting, this is not known yet)_._ * Although there is a high demand for it, there are currently no plans to support companies selling physical products. * LeapIN is currently doing well and they have grown quickly, never the less I asked about the unlikely situation where LeapIN would go bankrupt, what happens to my business then? LeapIN is “just” a service provider so there is as such, not much to worry about: The business and the bank account will remain registered on your name, you will simply need to find a new Estonia-based service provider/accountant. * The average accountancy costs for a starting business in Estonia usually revolve around 50 EUR/month plus 50 EUR for the yearly tax report. I double checked with my friends at [Mashmachines](http://mashmachines.com/) and they confirmed this is what they were paying in their “early days”. The LeapIN starter plan is 49 EUR/month and will become 79 EUR/month once you have reached a turnover of 1000 EUR. For the level of service they provide, the time you gain to focus on what you are passionate about and the headaches you avoid, the price is definitely fair. And frankly, if you are like me “[value-negative](https://growthlab.com/how-to-use-money-to-buy-back-your-time/)” on administration, a service like LeapIN is absolutely worth it! My experience so far is very positive: The contact is friendly and professional, there is a lot of available information, the onboarding went smooth and took me 1 week, the interface is user-friendly, I now have a dedicated accountant and I feel absolutely safe. There are of course other service providers and you could even try to do the accounting yourself and establish an address in Estonia, it is all up to you, but once again LeapIN felt like the right choice for me (simple, transparent, user-friendly). And here is a little extra for you if you have decided to start your online business in Estonia with LeapIN. They are offering both you and I a discount of 100 EUR by using the code “**Joneytalks**” when signing up. If you found the post useful, I would be grateful if you use it, it is a win-win after all ;) I hereby thank LeapIN again for their time! **Bringing it all together** My goal was to share my experience with starting up my online business so far, detail how it worked for me in practice and last but not least show you that it is a reliable programme backed by professional companies. It took me 2,5 months in total to have everything set up, the process was smooth and hassle-free, my research and trip to Estonia reassured me that my small business was in good hands. If you intend to start your own online company in a hassle-free way, the e-residency programme may be something for you as well (If you are a digital nomad, it should be a no-brainer, this is the way to go!). This post does not cover all aspects so for further info you can consult the e-residency [pages](https://e-resident.gov.ee/become-an-e-resident/), the [LeapIN blog](https://blog.leapin.eu/) and [FAQ](https://www.leapin.eu/faq), and [Ignacio’s blog](https://micropreneur.life/) (which is a goldmine of information). I did it on the 19th of January.\n2. Now you can start setting up your remote Estonian-based company.\n3. This process took me 1 week and I was helped all along by their onboarding staff.\n4. Here is a short comparative table LeapIN compiled.\n\n<div class=\"aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked\">\n\n<div class=\"progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded\" data-image-id=\"1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png\" data-width=\"832\" data-height=\"729\" data-action=\"zoom\" data-action-value=\"1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png\" data-scroll=\"native\">\n\n![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*eBy_O2Vgvx13djeL1OotcA.png)</div>\n\n</div>\n\nSource: [The Ultimate Guide to e-Residency and Borderless Business Banking — Your Options](https://blog.leapin.eu/ultimate-guide-to-e-residency-and-borderless-business-banking-your-options-b21647958a1)\n\n5\\. Travel to Estonia and open your bank account at LHV if you choose to do so.\n\nIf you have not traveled to Estonia before, I’d recommend you visit the country where your business is established. I went last week and it was a joy again to be there. The people are welcoming and friendly, I personally have some long-time friends I had the chance to meet, the old town in Tallinn is absolutely charming and I also took the opportunity to meet the people at LeapIN. Oh, and I almost forgot, the travel costs and accommodation for this trip are considered business expenses (I double checked with my LeapIN accountant :).\n\nIn total it will cost you 364 EUR and depending on your choice of business banking solution, it will take you approximately 2,5–3 months from the moment you apply for e-residency until your company is up and running.\n\n**Is it all safe?**\n\nIf you are not familiar with Estonia, it might seem strange to establish your business in an unfamiliar place. Rest assured, Estonia is one of Europe’s fastest growing economy, according to [Eurostat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurostat \"Eurostat\"), Estonia had the lowest ratio of government debt to GDP among EU countries at 9.4% at the end of 2017\\. This is what you will find on the [economy of Estonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Estonia) page in Wikipedia: “_A balanced budget, almost non-existent public debt, flat-rate income tax, free trade regime, competitive commercial banking sector, innovative e-Services and even mobile-based services are all hallmarks of Estonia’s market economy._”\n\nSounds good Jonathan, what about the service providers? LHV and LeapIN, are those reliable?\n\n**LHV Bank**\n\nAs per now, LHV is the only physical “traditional” bank that is accepting e-residents as customers. And yes I checked for myself: They are a real bank and have offices in downtown Tallinn and Tartu.\n\n<div class=\"aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked\">\n\n<div class=\"progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded\" data-image-id=\"1*Kp7r6orm-qnrfNIfDhcdug.png\" data-width=\"506\" data-height=\"799\" data-scroll=\"native\">\n\n![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*Kp7r6orm-qnrfNIfDhcdug.png)</div>\n\n\nI personally went to the Tallinn office which was the main purpose of my visit. The traditional ones Nordea, SEB, and Swedbank will require you to have a proven “connection to Estonia” or simply refuse your application.\n\n**LeapIN**\n\nYou can already read quite a lot about it through their own [blog](https://blog.leapin.eu/) and their [FAQ](https://www.leapin.eu/faq), they already provide so much value without you even being a customer that it felt right to have my admin managed by them. What LeapIN will do for you is to help you set up your company, apply for a bank account at LHV, provide you with a virtual address and be the contact person in Estonia, do the accounting, and ensure compliance. Their main office is located in the Ülemitse area close to the airport. Since I was in Tallinn anyway, I reached out to them to ask for a short meeting and so I had the chance to meet with Kadi and Meelik.\n\n<div class=\"aspectRatioPlaceholder is-locked\">\n\n<div class=\"progressiveMedia js-progressiveMedia graf-image is-canvasLoaded is-imageLoaded\" data-image-id=\"1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg\" data-width=\"4032\" data-height=\"3024\" data-action=\"zoom\" data-action-value=\"1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg\" data-scroll=\"native\">\n\n![](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*j_S2rMhvOSWCeJbvX2ui7A.jpeg)</div>\n\n</div>\nHere is a little summary of our discussion :\n\n* The start-up was founded 3 years ago and is growing rapidly, it counts about 50 employees (!) and is spread over two sites: Tallinn and Tartu (this is where most of the accounting is).\n* Regarding the customer base it is about [1400](https://www.leapin.eu/articles/15-things-to-know) but as per today it lies around 1500 (Source: LeapIN) and it is still growing every month. (I also complimented them on their marketing as they are everywhere)\n* Their focus is principally focused on digital businesses and the majority of their customers are single company owners. Their customer base is literally global, they have customers from Brazil, Ukraine, Thailand, Germany,…\n* From their customers’ survey it seems that their customers are extremely satisfied.\n* The most visible changes we should see as customers in the near future are an improved user interface, an even faster processing of information (improved automation) and there are also plans for integrating an own business-banking system (whether that means to have to have a face-2-face meeting, this is not known yet)_._\n* Although there is a high demand for it, there are currently no plans to support companies selling physical products.\n* LeapIN is currently doing well and they have grown quickly, never the less I asked about the unlikely situation where LeapIN would go bankrupt, what happens to my business then? LeapIN is “just” a service provider so there is as such, not much to worry about: The business and the bank account will remain registered on your name, you will simply need to find a new Estonia-based service provider/accountant.\n* The average accountancy costs for a starting business in Estonia usually revolve around 50 EUR/month plus 50 EUR for the yearly tax report. And frankly, if you are like me “[value-negative](https://growthlab.com/how-to-use-money-to-buy-back-your-time/)” on administration, a service like LeapIN is absolutely worth it!\n\nMy experience so far is very positive: The contact is friendly and professional, there is a lot of available information, the onboarding went smooth and took me 1 week, the interface is user-friendly, I now have a dedicated accountant and I feel absolutely safe.\n\nThere are of course other service providers and you could even try to do the accounting yourself and establish an address in Estonia, it is all up to you, but once again LeapIN felt like the right choice for me (simple, transparent, user-friendly).\n\nAnd here is a little extra for you if you have decided to start your online business in Estonia with LeapIN. They are offering both you and I a discount of 100 EUR by using the code “**Joneytalks**” when signing up. If you found the post useful, I would be grateful if you use it, it is a win-win after all ;)\n\nI hereby thank LeapIN again for their time!\n\n**Bringing it all together**\n\nMy goal was to share my experience with starting up my online business so far, detail how it worked for me in practice and last but not least show you that it is a reliable programme backed by professional companies.\n\nIt took me 2,5 months in total to have everything set up, the process was smooth and hassle-free, my research and trip to Estonia reassured me that my small business was in good hands.\n\nIf you intend to start your own online company in a hassle-free way, the e-residency programme may be something for you as well (If you are a digital nomad, it should be a no-brainer, this is the way to go!).\n\nThis post does not cover all aspects so for further info you can consult the e-residency [pages](https://e-resident.gov.ee/become-an-e-resident/), the [LeapIN blog](https://blog.leapin.eu/) and [FAQ](https://www.leapin.eu/faq), and [Ignacio’s blog](https://micropreneur.life/) (which is a goldmine of information).\n\nIf you have started your online business as well or are still hesitating let me know in the comments below I would love to hear from you!\n\n_If you liked this article, do follow us on social media as well for more great content, check our_ [_Facebook_](http://www.facebook.com/joneytalks/)_,_ [_Instagram_](https://www.instagram.com/joneytalks/)_,_ [_Twitter_](https://twitter.com/jon_verhaeghe)_, and join our_ [_e-mail list_](http://eepurl.com/cosInf)_. titleThe Subtle Art of Not Giving a F* - Short book review
bodyHello friends, Just finished this fun and deeper-than-it-appears read 📚. ![51jkG-DeyeL._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWvx47DFVLFhDf4UkpkPDMoCC8n6ExmiaQ8T6R4tL2eW1/51jkG-DeyeL._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg) The writing style is easy, entertaining and most of what is being told is on point. Since I am already prioritising my attention to where it matters to me the book is enjoyable but not a total revelation. The topics mentioned in the book are logical and make huge sense, these are illustrated with interesting stories (I particularly enjoyed the one with Lieutenant Onoda and the one with #davemustaine 🤟🏾) and sometimes personal anecdotes that really help get the the point across 👍. My enthusiasm 🤩 was high at the start and faded slowly towards the middle, simply because what was advocated was mostly common sense. All in all I would give it 3.5 ⭐️ but how you evaluate the book will depend on your own background and life situation. Had I read the same book 10-15 years ago, i’d probably give it 5⭐️! If you want to and out for yourself, you can purchase the book on Amazon [here](https://amzn.to/2Nf0q34). Have you read it? Let me know what you thought :) Should you give a f* about this book❓ If you liked this article, do follow us on social media as well for more great content, check our [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/joneytalks/), [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/joneytalks/), [Twitter](https://twitter.com/jon_verhaeghe), and join our [e-mail list](http://eepurl.com/cosInf). Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain are complex animals and may indeed appear daunting at first, it is all about learning and being open to the new technology. Thanks to great teachers like [Ivan on Tech](https://www.youtube.com/user/LiljeqvistIvan), I learned all about the basics and even followed his great course : Deep Blockchain Fundamentals. Which I can recommend to anyone interested into learning more about. You can also get a massive discount by using JONEYTALKS when registering [here](https://goo.gl/jrjRv6). PS : It took me some time as well to grasp the concepts and connect all the dots I must say ;)

titleMindless Eating - quick book review
bodyHowdy amigos! Finished reading this one yesterday. <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mindless-Eating-Brian-Wansink-PhD/dp/1848502524/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&qid=1534766447&sr=8-1&keywords=mindless+eating&&linkCode=li2&tag=joneytalks-21&linkId=9619b3474bfd4e01e49ca1d0b4c0f819&language=en_GB" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="//ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1848502524&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=joneytalks-21&language=en_GB" ></a><img src="https://ir-uk.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=joneytalks-21&language=en_GB&l=li2&o=2&a=1848502524" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> Here is my quick review also published on Goodreads : Brilliant and fun read! Although the book is written with an American perspective and references (I had to check pop-tarts and other brands on Google), the concepts and experiences would probably have yielded similar results in Europe. We are tricked into so many ways every time we eat (size, color, smells, lighting, emotions,..) because we do it mindlessly. The good news is we can apply the mindless way of eating by switching it for the positive and then become healthier, thinner mindlessly as well : Smaller plates, see what we eat, hiding candies in a jar, putting it out of sight,... and still eat whatever we want (just in smaller portions for instance). I actually lost a few kilos last year by applying the principles of Mindless Eating before reading the book so I can tell you that if you are on a diet the principles will work because they are all about habits and not overthink every food decision. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did! You can also try audible for 30 days and listen to it for free! click [here](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audible-Free-Trial-Digital-Membership/dp/B00OPA2XFG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?&linkCode=ll1&tag=joneytalks-21&linkId=97a4072e1950bb0a31901cf477be5078&language=en_GB) ;)

titleThe Power of Habit - Charles Duhigg
bodyHey friend. Just finished this book yesterday and what a fantastic read! <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Habit-Why-What-Change/dp/1847946240/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&qid=1533486447&sr=8-1&keywords=the+power+of+habit&linkCode=li3&tag=joneytalks-21&linkId=378eb9a646bad358a8ad81b710098250&language=en_GB" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="//ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1847946240&Format=_SL250_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=joneytalks-21&language=en_GB" ></a><img src="https://ir-uk.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=joneytalks-21&language=en_GB&l=li3&o=2&a=1847946240" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> I learned so much about habits and much more than "how to quit smoking", "how to start running first thing in the morning",... This is the first book I have read about habits and must say I am impressed by the depth and richness of information, interviews, research,.. the book delves into. Throughout my life I have been experiencing with changing/adapting and getting rid of certain habits so it was interesting to read more about the subject and what resonated me the most is the chapter on Keystone habits : where it is mentioned that keeping a good habit will have an impact on unrelated areas of one´s life. It has been observed that a person stating to exercise, will start eating better and be more productive at work, at the same time this person uses his/her credit card less frequently,... I was absolutely fascinated by a few stories of the book : How good or bad habits in an organization will affect its performance, how retail companies will market certain products to you based on your habits, how Michael Phelps prepares mentally before a competition, the story of Alcoa which is reflected in the above paragraph : The CEO focused developing safety habits on the workfloor and this in turn resulted in tremendous changes throughout the company and impacted the bottom line significantly, how habits develop in social movements such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott (Rosa Parks),...Great book, go and read it! titleDo not follow the herd!
bodyHello friends, I hope you are well, I saw this video yesterday from Alessio Rastani, a Stock Market and Forex trader. The screenshot is from that video. His Youtube channel is pretty interesting, I discovered it while looking for advice on cryptocurrencies, and if you are a Trader or Investor I highly recommend you go check his channel. ![Capture d’écran 2018-07-25 à 23.37.23.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmNzbushncZutSH4sCqoNNPgegnFMhK7SQSzPAmNrgWT55/Capture%20d%E2%80%99%C3%A9cran%202018-07-25%20%C3%A0%2023.37.23.png) In yesterday's [video](https://youtu.be/o8-5nXWKjYc) he shows how financial media is contradicting itself and why you should not follow the headlines blindly. Check it out for yourself! Have a nice day amigos, invest safely and do not follow the herd! :)
