      "body": "![image](https://img.esteem.ws/ohnad31j92.jpg)\n\nThe recent cryptocurrency price drops and \"bear markets\" really made me feel like the hit song of The Clash \"should I stay or should I go?\" I must also admit that I have been in cryptocurrency only for a year now, so I am actually still a rookie. On the other hand, you haven't lost money yet if you haven't sold, so that was my other way of thinking, although the last 2 weeks were horrible and my portfolio looks like a bloodbath. \nTherefore I decided to investigate myself reasons for staying in cryptocurrency and why I believe this is not a dying model. Over the last few weeks the bitcoin mining hashrate(measures computing power) actually went up while the market price for bitcoin declined. An increased hash rate means bitcoin mining is still profitable. The increased hash rate means people are here for the long-run as well. The hardware efficiency and alternatives for cheaper electricity cost are rapidly increasing. This means there is still alot of interest in bitcoin mining and as long as there is interest, there is a market. I am from South Africa and we all have seen bitcoin ATM's as well where you can by bitcoin with fiat money, but recently a company called Virtual Bitcoin Technologies signed an agreement with Virtual Crypto SA to sell their products in South Africa. An exciting product is the NetoBit ATM that will be launched here soon where you will not only be able to buy bitcoin and some other top ten cryptos on real time exchange,  but also sell bitcoin and withdraw fiat money making the use of trading platforms for some users unnecessary. This type of development is very exciting for the cryptocurrency community as this is a huge stepping stone for acceptance globally, although you also want to move away from the fiat system. Ethos is also in the process to develop their smart wallet to enable users to trade cryptocurrency on their platform as well as directly buy and sell via the wallet to fiat currency. The fact that the bitcoin price was +-6500$ a year ago and now at almost the same price(after a dodgy period), comforts me that this is not a dying model. Yes there will be ups and downs like any investment, but bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies are definitely not dying.  Some cryptocurrencies will be \"washed out\" yes as they will not be good enough which is also a good thing to get rid of the \"trash\". In the long run I think bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies will \"rocket\" and resolve alot of current everyday issues. A few interesting cryptocurrency price comparisons to August 2017 : Ethereum 2017 : 300$ 2018 : 315$, Ripple 2017 : 0.249$ 2018 : 0.357$, Litecoin 2017 : 45$ 2018 : 60$, Steem 2017 : 1$ 2018 : 1$. We are almost exactly at the same prices as a year ago and we all know this has been a bad year so far for cryptocurrency. I am looking forward to the future prices and hopefully in a year's time I can do a follow up post where we will see x100 gains in some prices. So let's stay and not go! \"HODL!\".",
