      "body": "위대한 제품의 6가지 속성 (write by sungmun)\n\n\n\n![great product.PNG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPLackA6CqjQxeW31VFZzpNZDPHndWhRkXQgFJYKGkfrH/great%20product.PNG)\n\n\n\n위대한 제품이란 뭘까. 사람들은 각자의 정의를 가지고 있다. 최근 Launch Festival에서 링크드인(LinkedIn)의 CEO인 제프 와이너(Jeff Weiner)가 이야기한 위대한 제품의 다섯 가지 속성(What Makes a Truly Great Product Great)을 듣고 많이 공감했는데, 그가 말하는 다섯 가지 원칙은 다음과 같다.\n\n1. 단 하나의 가치를 매우 뛰어난 방법으로 제공한다 Delivers on a singular value proposition in a world-class way (예: Google, Headspace)\n\n2. 단순하고, 직관적이며, 필요를 예측한다 Simple, intuitive, and anticipates needs (예: Waze)\n\n3. 기대를 뛰어넘는다 Exceeds expectations (예: Sonos의 소비자 서비스)\n\n4. 정서적인 공감을 얻는다 Emotionally resonates (예: 테슬라 모델 S)\n\n5. 사람들의 삶을 좋은 방향으로 바꾼다 Changes the user's life for the better (아이폰 6+)\n\n한 가지씩 살펴보자.\n\n1. 단 하나의 가치를 매우 뛰어난 방법으로 제공한다\n\n생각해보면 Sunrise Calendar, Slack, Appear.in, Inbox, Moo.do, Product Hunt, Pocket 등 요즘 내가 즐겨 쓰는 대부분의 제품이 이렇게 한 가지를 정말 잘하는 것들이다. 그리고 그런 제품은 시간이 지나도 다른 경쟁자에 의해 잘 교체되지 않는다. 몇 년간 한 가지에만 집중해온 제품을 이기기란 쉽지 않다.\n\n대부분의 제품은 사실 하나의 아이디어로 시작한다. 하지만 시간이 지나면서 새로운 기능이 추가되고, 새로운 기능에 의해 그 '하나의 아이디어'가 묻히게 되는 경우가 많다. 한 제품이 다양한 기능을 가지는 것이 나쁜 것도 아니고, 이런 과정을 통해 제품의 새로운 가능성이 발견되거나 전보다 더 큰 성공을 거두기도 한다. 인스타그램은 '필터' 한 가지를 정말 잘 하는 것으로 시작했지만, 지금은 가장 빨리 성장하고 있는 소셜 네트워크로 발전했다. 그래서 이 주장에 완전히 동의하는 것은 아니지만, 적어도 제품을 만드는 입장에서 '그 하나의 가치'가 무엇인지에 대해서는 명확히 알고 있어야 하고 그 가치에서 벗어나지 않도록 계속 노력해야 한다고 믿는다. 예를 들어, 인스타그램은 얼마 전 2년만에 다섯 개의 필터를 추가했는데, 나는 이 새로운 필터들이 너무나 마음이 든다.\n\n인스타그램이 2014년 말에 추가한 다섯 개의 필터.\n\n인스타그램을 이용해서 사진을 페이스북이나 트위터로 쉽게 공유하는 기능도 좋고 버락 오바마나 무라드 오스만(Murad Osman)의 계정을 팔로우하며 끝내주는 사진이 업데이트되는 것을 보게 해주는 기능도 좋지만, 결국 인스타그램이 처음에 탄생하고 인기를 끌었던 이유이자 가장 잘해야 하는 한 가지는 스마트폰에서 사진이 멋지게 보이도록 하는 것이다. 인스타그램이 소셜 네트워크의 성공에 취해 필터 기능을 소홀히하고 대신 가수나 영화 배우같은 유명인들을 팔로우하도록 유인하는 쪽으로 제품을 강화한다면 어땠을까? 일시적으로 월간 활성 사용자(Monthly Active User)가 일시적으로 늘어나는 효과가 있겠지만, 궁극적으로는 경쟁 제품에 의해 대체될 위험이 있다.\n\n마찬가지로 내가 텔레그램(Telegram) 메신저를 열성적으로 좋아하는 이유는 '메신저'로서의 본질에 집중하고 있기 때문이다. 빠른 속도와 안정성, 그리고 보안. 사진이나 비디오 필터를 추가할 수도 있었고 게임을 붙일 수도 있었고 배경 테마를 팔 수도 있었고, 친구 추가 추천을 할 수도 있었지만, 그렇게 하는 대신 쾌적하게 메시지를 주고 받는 것에만 집중하도록 했다. 결코 쉬운 일이 아니었을 것이라고 생각한다.\n\n에버노트는 그런 면에서 차츰 나를 실망시키고 있는 제품이다. '노트 기록'이 가장 중요한 기능이고 이 한가지를 정말 잘 하면 좋겠는데, 지난 몇 년간 노트 기록의 기능에서는 거의 혁신이 없는 채 유료 기능인 프리젠테이션 기능 모드가 추가되고 협업 기능이 강화되면서 애플리케이션이 무거워지고 투박해져버렸다.\n\n여기서 추가로 생각해야 하는 건, 한 가지의 기능을 정말 잘 하도록 하려면 돈이 많이 들고, 한편 돈을 벌게 되기까지 시간이 많이 걸릴 수 있다는 것이다. 위에서 예로 든 것처럼 새로 추가한 기능을 통해 매출이 나오는 경우가 많기 때문이다. 그래서 제프가 쓴 글의 제목이 What Makes a Truly Great Product Great 인 것 같다. 다양한 기능을 가진 좋은 제품도 많이 있지만, '진정으로' 위대한 제품(어찌보면 위대한 제품보다도 더 위대한 제품)은 한 가지를 정말 잘 하는 것이라는 뜻. 그 방향을 추구했을 때, 매출이 나오기까지 훨씬 시간이 오래 걸릴 수 있지만 궁극적으로는 훨씬 많은 돈을 벌 수 있게 되는 것 아닐까 생각해본다.\n\n2. 단순하고 직관적이며, 필요를 예측한다\n\n단순하고 직관적이라는 원칙은 위 1번에서 한 이야기와 중복되는 것 같고, 필요를 예측한다는 것에 대해 생각해보자. 이것이 위대한 제품과 좋은 제품을 구별하는 좋은 기준인지는 잘 모르겠지만 필요를 예측하는 것이 너무나 어렵다는 점을 생각하면 위대한 제품만이 이를 제대로 할 수 있다고 생각한다. 내가 사고 싶은 제품을 예측하고, 내가 보고 싶은 영화를 예측하고, 내가 가고 싶은 곳을 예측하고, 내가 먹고 싶은 것을 예측하는 제품이 되려면 그만큼 나에 대해 잘 알아야 하고, 그만큼 내가 그 제품을 많이 사용해야 한다. 그런 면에서 이는 위대한 제품이 되는 조건이라기보다는 위대한 제품이 된 결과에 더 가까운 것 같다.\n\n3. 기대를 뛰어넘는다\n\n제프 와이너는 휴일 전날이었음에도 불구하고 자기를 성의껏 도와주는 소노스(Sonos)의 고객 서비스를 예로 들었는데, 나는 심플(Simple)을 예로 들어 설명해보고 싶다. Simple은 시애틀에 본사를 둔 인터넷 은행이다. 처음 이 은행에 대해 알게 되었을 때는 그 이름에 걸맞게 UI가 좋은 새로운 은행인가보다 했다. 진정, 사용자 경험은 내가 전에 이용하던 Bank of Amercia와는 비교도 할 수 없을만큼 좋다. 하지만 사용할수록 내 기대를 뛰어넘는 기능과 서비스에 놀라게 된다. 전통적인 암호 방식이 아닌 패스코드(passcode)라는 방식을 채택해서 문장(예를 들면 '나는 필즈 커피를 좋아합니다')을 암호로 사용하도록 유도한 점이 처음에는 신기했고, 가입하고 나서 배달된 카드의 포장 디자인이 예뻐서 기분이 좋았고, 카드를 어디에 사용했는지 그래프로 분석해준 것이 좋았는데, 여기에 또 한 번 내 기대를 뛰어넘은 것은 너무나 간편하게 수표를 보낼 수 있게 해주는 UI와 고객 서비스였다.\n\n심플(Simple)의 직불 카드가 배달된 모습\n\n아래는 웹에서 수표(check)를 보내는 UI이다. 받을 사람을 설정하고 금액을 입력한 후에 확인해본 후 SEND 버튼을 누르면 수표가 인쇄되고 봉투에 담겨 상대방 집으로 배달된다. 수표가 어떻게 생겼는지 미리 볼 수도 있다.\n\nSimple을 통해 웹에서 수표를 보내는 방법\n\n내 기대를 뛰어넘은 또 한 가지는 Touch ID를 이용해서 앱에 로그인할 수 있게 한 것. 암호를 입력하는 대신 엄지손가락을 아이폰에 대고 있기만 하면 앱에 로그인되어 은행 업무를 볼 수 있다. 아주 안전하면서 편리한 방식.\n\n심플(Simple)의 모바일 앱 로그인 화면\n\n그 외에도 내 기대를 뛰어넘는 기능들은 많지만 심플을 소개하고자 시작한 블로그가 아니니 여기에서 줄인다.\n\n4. 정서적 공감을 얻는다\n\n제프는 여기에 테슬라를 예로 들었다. 테슬라를 운전하면서 미래에 이미 와 있다는 생각이 들었으며(Driving the future), 이 느낌은 자기만의 것이 아닌 다른 사람들도 공감하는 것이라고 했다. 이건 정말 위대한 제품만 가지는 속성이라고 생각한다. 좋은 제품(good product)은 유용하다(useful). 즉, 사람들의 문제를 해결하고 사람들에게 유용한 가치(돈이나 시간을 절약해주는 등)를 제공한다. 하지만 위대한 제품(great product)은 여기서 한 걸음 더 나아가 정서적 교감을 불러일으킨다. 버진 아메리카(Virgin America)가 하나의 예이다. 보라색 조명, 착륙할 때 나오는 라운지 음악, 노래하는 직원들, 그리고 빨간색 티켓.\n\n버진 아메리카 기내 조명\n\n또는 동물 캐릭터 등을 활용해 제품의 감성성을 높일 수도 있다고 생각한다.
