      "body": "Greetings friends,\n\nI'm not a big writer, so most of my content will be made through video (make sure to check out and subscribe on Dtube!), but I'm a big fan of blockchain and I want to test this steemit thing out, so here goes nothing.\n\nMy story starts as a 5-year-old boy who had to pack up his things and leave his neighborhood friends behind, because his family was moving into a bigger/nicer house (oddly enough in the same neighborhood).\n\nFor a while, I was curious as to why and how this happened.\n\nAs my life progressed, I learned that my dad had actually started his own business after spending years climbing the corporate ladder, and had some success.\n\nI remember having a friend in 1st grade tell me, \"Bosses just sit around in their office all day smoking cigars and doing nothing.\" \n\nI was worldly enough in 1st grade to understand that a lot of people had this perception of what a \"boss\" does.\n\nBut my immediate response was, \"Nuh-uh my dad is a boss and he works really hard.\" (By the way, I don't think my dad has ever even smoked a cigar in his life. The man will rarely even finish a beer.)\n\nEver since then I realized that it's not that common of a thing for people to start their own business, let alone see success when they do.\n\nBut from then on I knew that I wanted to start my own business so that I can live a comfortable life with my family just like my dad did with us.\n\nFast forward to middle school and my mom introduced me to Etrade and investing in stocks. Truth be told, I doubled my money in my first year. It was a pretty good feeling, and I was hooked.\n\nThen high school came around. I was a stud athlete who excelled in baseball, basketball, and football which I quit after suffering a concussion and averaging 50 yards per catch (2 catches for 100 yards and 1 touchdown, we never threw the ball) to take up surfing. \n\nThe things that made me good at sports were that I played a sport every single day with my identical twin best friends who lived right next door to me, I hit puberty early so I was unusually large and athletic (until people caught up height wise by junior year of high school), and I had this ridiculously tenacious competitive drive, because I knew that as long as I worked harder and hustled harder than everyone else, no competition would out-perform me regardless of how \"talented\" they were, and I wouldn't let anyone take what I thought was mine. \n\n(Any basketball fans reading this would love to see me play basketball. I'm the guy that full-court presses in pickup games).\n\nBeing so consumed with sports (and females), I didn't really have the time or energy to engage my entrepreneurial tendencies (besides investing and flipping the occasional bag of weed). \n\nI was leaving all of my competitiveness and drive out on the court/field. Looking back, seeing that I'm not playing a professional sport at age 22, I wish I would've started a business in high school. \n\nMoving on to graduation, I had a sub 3.0 GPA and I didn't have any clue what I wanted to do academically in college.\n\nAll I knew was that I wanted to play baseball somewhere where the weather was nice, so I decided to turn down Division 1 baseball offers (some of my \"friends\" who didn't get D1 offers still can't accept this fact) and walk onto the JV team of the #1 Division 2 baseball school in the country (University of Tampa who had won the D2 National Championship that year), knowing that my competitive drive would get me onto their varsity squad in no time.\n\nAnd guess what. It did. The first preseason game was all varsity players, the JV 3rd baseman, and the JV center-fielder (me).\n\nThere was one little problem though.\n\nI worked so hard at baseball that I ended up dedicating very little time to my (B.S. stands for Bull Shit) Marine Biology degree, and failed 4 out of my 5 classes (somehow I got an A in writing) and racked up a whopping 1.3 GPA, making me \"academically ineligible\" to play that season.\n\nNot a great start.\n\nThe team ended up going 47-2 that year, which also did not help my case.\n\nThat's when I decided to switch to a Finance degree path, which came naturally to me, and I put up a very solid 3.5 GPA.\n\nMuch better.\n\nThe next year, I thought I was on top of the world. I was a redshirt freshman on the baseball team who had a very promising future and I figured out the whole school thing.\n\nUnfortunately, the following year, the baseball coach didn't like something about me, and I'm still not 100% sure what it was. In fact, he told me I had an attitude problem, which is the exact opposite that every coach I had ever had before had told me (all of my coaches used to rave about my work ethic and competitive drive... I guess wanting myself and my teammates to be the best was a negative to this guy).\n\nOne day, out of the blue, he decided to cut me from the team before I ever got to play a game. Everybody on the team was surprised and needless to say I was surprised and confused.\n\nThey ended up winning the national championship that year.\n\nAgain, not good for my case.\n\nAt that point, I had no sports, I lost the friendship of most of my baseball buddies, and I was living the life of some average college dude. Not my cup of tea.\n\nThat's when business and entrepreneurship saved my life.\n\nI'm also pretty savvy on the guitar, and after teaching a few of my friends to play I realized that I could charge people for lessons.\n\nSo, I paraded around campus with a stack of flyers and some tape.\n\nThe flyers read something along the lines of, \"I can teach you how to play guitar and become a famous musician by making you famous on YouTube.\"\n\nLo and behold, I got a couple of students and ended up making a nice little income from teaching guitar lessons, but got wrapped up in something that I thought was much better for me before I could accel my pupils' brands on YouTube. \n\nWhile putting up my flyers, I was told that I had to get them sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Club before I could put up any more. \n\nI continued to put up the flyers before getting permission anyway, I encourage entrepreneurs to do this (sometimes) because it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission (Tim Ferriss taught me this).\n\nAnyway, while sitting in the Entrepreneurship Club, waiting to get my flyers sponsored, a student one grade above me spoke about an awesome tech startup (for confidentiality purposes I won't mention it here) that was looking for interns.\n\nI hopped all over it, killed the interview, and got the internship.\n\nI loved this company, it gave me everything I wanted at the time. A cool job, a creative place that had huge potential, and a job where I could utilize my competitive drive to get ahead.\n\nI finished up my college education and spent my last 3 semester at this startup where I learned project management skills as well as phone sales skills (a greatly under-valued skill) and various other business skills.\n\nAfter graduating college, I was itching to either start my own business or get a sudo-executive role at this company (and honestly some stock options or equity). \n\nThey wanted to test my sales skills a little bit more before dedicating a big chunk of cash in my direction, which I totally understand, but unfortunately, they never had plans of giving me any type of equity or stock options.
