Nikola Tesla fits all three categories. There are those that refer to him as ‘the father of modern times,’ others claim that he was a farce that rode the coat tails of other scientists.&nbsp; If we push it all aside and look at the man, the ideas and the actual accomplishments, you can come up with your own opinion.Nikola Tesla was born the son of a priest (father) and an inventor (mother) in 1856; about 30 years before the first gasoline-powered car graced us with its presence.&nbsp; Although his father wanted him to follow a religious path,&nbsp;it was his mother that captured his mind. He attended universities in both Austria and the Czech Republic and, like many inventors, he was full of ideas but after failing to spark interest in Europe, he left his home for America in 1884 at the age of 28. He arrived with the clothes on his back and a letter of introduction to Thomas Edison.&nbsp; Tesla worked for/with Edison for the next year until money got in the way. While Edison was driven by the marketing and monetary success, Tesla was driven by the science and how it could help the world. Need I go any farther with this train of thought?Being the driven man that Tesla was, he continued to think, build and even file patents while working a manual labor job just to survive. He caught his first break in 1887, with the invention of the AC (alternating current) electrical system and the solution to distributing power across the nation.&nbsp; This changed the face of the world…Now, Tesla had some momentum and was able to show the world tangible ideas… the professionals lined up, the public lined up and other scientists ganged up. &nbsp;“What? Why? How?” Let’s look at some of the marvels that came out of this man’s head.The year? 1895. Tesla designed one of the first AC hydroelectric power plants in America, at Niagara Falls. The following year, it was used to power the city of Buffalo, New York, an almost magical success publicized throughout the world. With this milestone and the mass reporting of it, the alternating current system would quickly become the predominant power system of the 20th century throughout the world — pushing Edison’s expensive DC system out the door. See where this was going? Despite the roadblocks of being a poor immigrant, being constantly blocked by big money such as Edison, Carnegie and even Albert Einstein at times, he persevered and gained the support of George Westinghouse.<strong>So, what other awesome things came from Nikola Tesla?X-Rays:</strong> Although Tesla took the first, clear x-ray of a booted foot from 8 feet away, instead of trying to beat Roentgen to the “props,” he helped him develop it.<strong>The electro-magnetic motor:</strong>&nbsp;It drives everything from a CD player to the cooling fans at a nuclear power plant.<strong>The Tesla coil (or transformer):</strong>&nbsp;That little black box that you plug into the wall to charge your smart phone, along with many other devices, is a type of modern day Tesla coil.<strong>The remote control:</strong> He built and demonstrated a radio-controlled boat (“telautom automatics”) at Madison Square Garden.<strong>Wireless transmission of electricity (recently accomplished by Japanese researchers):</strong> sending power through the air without wires.Tesla also built the first electric car, which has now been revisited by the motor company bearing his name.These are just the tip of the iceberg.       "body": "<html>\n<p><img src=\"https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CL38wb0WoAAasPl.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\"/></p>\n<p><br></p>\n</html>\nThe Native Americans Weren’t Defeated by White Settlers\nLie:\n\nAdd in some war, throw in some smallpox… Not much is said about how the Indian Americans were wiped out.\n\nNative American civilization’s fall is usually explained away with its inability to compete with the White Man’s technological prowess.\n\nTruth:\n\nIn the decades between Columbus’ discovery of America and the Mayflower landing at Plymouth Rock, the most devastating plague in human history raced up the East Coast of America. Just two years before the pilgrims arrived, the plague wiped out about 96 percent of the Native Americansin Massachusetts.\n\nIn the years before the plague, a sailor named Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed up the East Coast and described it as “densely populated” and so “smoky with Indian bonfires” that you could smell them burning hundreds of miles out at sea.\n\nHistorians estimate that before the plague, America’s population was anywhere between 20 and 100 million (Europe’s at the time was 70 million). The plague would kill at least 90 percent of the native population. The Black Plague was far more merciful, having only killed off between 30 and 60 percent of Europe’s population. It wasn’t that White people overwhelmed the Native Americans; rather, it was their first unknowing use of biological terrorism that destroyed most of their rivals.\n\nNative Culture Wasn’t Backwards\nLie:\n\nAmerican Indians lived in balance with mother earth, and were were leaving behind a small carbon footprint because they were hippies who smoke weed everyday.\n\nTruth:\n\nThe Indian Americans were so good at destroying forests that a team of Stanford environmental scientists think they caused a mini ice age in Europe. When most of the Indian Americans died in the plague, so many trees grew back that it had a reverse global warming effect. More carbon dioxide was sucked from the air, the Earth’s atmosphere held on to less heat.\n\nCahokia is a massive Native American city located in modern day East St. Louis. While the city was abandoned by the time White people got to it, the evidence they left behind suggests a complex economy with trade routes from the Great Lakes all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. In 1250, it was bigger than London, and featured a sophisticated society with an urban center, satellite villages and thatched-roof houses lining the central plazas.\n\nAnd that’s not even mentioning America’s version of the Great Pyramid: Monk’s Mound. Cahokia’s pyramid dwarfs any of Egypt’s, both in size and in degree of difficulty. The mound contains more than 2.16 billion pounds of soil, some of which had to be carried from hundreds of miles away, to make sure the city’s giant monument was vividly colored. No trucks, just human labor moved a literal mountain of earth.\n\nColumbus Didn’t Discover America….. The Vikings did.\nLie:\n\nAmerica was discovered in 1492 because Europeans were starting to get curious about the outside world thanks to the Renaissance and Enlightenment and Europeans of the time just generally being the first smart people ever.\n\nTruth:\n\nHere’s what we know. It was Vikings who set up a successful colony in Greenland that lasted for 518 years (982-1500). To put that into perspective, the white European settlement currently known as the United States will need to wait until the year 2125 to match that longevity. The Vikings sent several expeditions down south to try to settle what they called Vineland — which historians now believe was the East Coast of North America.\n\nAfter spending a couple decades sneaking ashore to raid “Vineland” of its wood pulp, the Vikings tried to settle North America in 1005. They set up the first successful European American colony, for the grand total of two years. They were soon expelled, their leader struck in the heart by a Native American arrow.\n\nIf the Native Americans had been able to resist their diseases, there was no way in heck White people could settle the land without being repeatedly beaten by large sticks and stabbed with larger pointier sticks.\n\nThe Columbus Lie\nLie:\n\nColumbus discovered America, his crew was about to throw him overboard, when land was spotted in the nick of time. Until the pilgrims showed up and successfully settled the country for the first time, there was never any reason for Europeans to head over there….. with nearly 150 years in between these two events where absolutely nothing happened.\n\nTruth:\n\nFirst of all, Columbus wasn’t the first to discover America. Nor were the Vikings, since technically the Native Americans had come from decendents who had crossed over to that land when they had left Africa for the rest of the world several millennia ago. His voyage wasn’t even particularly difficult; they enjoyed smooth sailing and his life was never in real danger. Columbus died wealthy, and knew exactly what he had found; he wrote in his journal, “I have come to believe that this is a mighty continent which was hitherto unknown.”\n\nWhen he couldn’t find enough gold to make his voyage profitable enough, he focused on enslaving Native Americans. Columbus discovered America and invented American slavery in the same 15-year period.\n\nThere were plenty of unsuccessful (mostly horrible descents into cannibalism) attempts to settle America between Columbus’ discovery and the pilgrims’ arrival. It wasn’t coincidence that the pilgrims settled America two years after New England was emptied of 96 percent of the Indian Americans who lived there. According to James W. Loewen’s Lies My Teacher Told Me, the plague would clear the path for the pilgrims to settle on the corpses of Native Americans.\n\nWhite Settlers Did Not Struggle To Create America From Jungle\nLie:\n\nThe pilgrims were the first in a parade of brave settlers who pushed civilization westward along the frontier, enduring harshest of conditions, to tame the land as it stands today.\n\nTruth:\n\nIn written records from early colonial times, you constantly come across “settlers” being shocked at how convenient the American wilderness made things for them. The eastern forests, generally portrayed by great American writers as a “thick, unbroken snarl of trees” no longer existed by the time the white European settlers actually showed up. The pilgrims couldn’t believe their luck when they found that American forests just naturally contained “garden plots, blackberry rambles, pine barrens and spacious groves of chestnut, hickory and oak.”\n\nFrontiersmen who settled what is today Ohio discovered that the forest there naturally grew in a way that “resembled English parks.” The pilgrims specifically chose Plymouth specifically because it was a recently abandoned town. They chose Plymouth Rock because of “its beautiful cleared fields, recently planted in corn, and its useful harbor.”\n\nWe’re told that the pilgrims were helped by an Indian American named Squanto who spoke English. How did that happen? Squanto was from the town that would become Plymouth, but between being born there and the pilgrims’ arrival, he’d undergone slavery, was shipped to Europe and had to escape his masters before boarding a ship back home. And what he discovered was truly tragic.\n\nSquanto had been kidnapped from Cape Cod by White settlers as a child and sold into slavery in Spain. He escaped and learned enough English to convince someone to bring him to “the New World.” When he finally got back home, he found his town deserted. The plague had swept through two years before, killing everyone.\n\nHe decided that since nobody else was using the land he would share his knowledge with the pilgrims, who had taken so much from him, and teach them how to survive on the graves of his family and friends.\n\nCompare that to Jamestown, the first settlement, its inhabitants were starving to death because they did not know how to grow their own food. The first Virginians were so desperate that they went from taking Native American slaves to offering themselves up as slaves to the Indian Americans in exchange for food. Jamestown is the oldest successful colonial settlement in America, but it makes for a less heroic tale than that of the pilgrims.",

      "body": "Vince Vaughn recently spoke with the British edition of GQ magazine, where he speaks plainly about his views on liberty in America.\n\nThe interview began by discussing Vaughn’s role in “assembly-line comedies,” however it was the next three topics of conversation that got the media buzzing.\n\n \n\nOn the American government:\n“Edward Snowden is a hero. I like what he did. My idea of treason is that you sell secrets to the enemy. He gave information to the American people. Snowden didn’t take information for money or dogmas. Governments claim to write endless laws to protect us, a law for this, a law for that, but are they working? I don’t think so. The consequences are that there is a staggering loss of freedom for the individual. I look at the drug wars and they are absolutely f***ing ridiculous. There is a black market and the prisons are overcrowded and it’s not preventing drug use. There’s a corruption that goes all the way to the top.”\n\nOn the American right to own a gun:\n“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual. It’s the same reason we have freedom of speech. It’s well known that the greatest defence against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They’ve only happened in places that don’t allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.”\n\nOn whether guns should be allowed in schools:\n“Of course. You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do. And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat.
