The issue is that the real investors already got their investments in before this happens. They are the ones that make the real money because they act based on years of real experience, proper infield educations, etc. Personally I always use: https://www.coincheckup.com This site is really helpful in my coin research. | title | DeepONION - truly anonymous community driven currency |
| body | Two days ago I had the surprise to find out about [DeepONION](https://deeponion.org) project and what I’ve seen so far made me do the effort to write this article. First of all, I had no idea about the fact that you can trace someone location with longitude and latitude which made a Bitcoin or Ether transaction. I have found about that by watching this [video]( https://deeponion.org/community/threads/deep-onion-tor-tutorial-how-tor-network-works-and-deep-onion-client-connects.743/). Especially starting at 5:39. It is scary, isn’t it? I was so baffled about tracing someone so easy using [Visual Traceroute]( http://visualtraceroute.net/) and [Blockexplorer]( https://blockexplorer.com/) that I’ve immediately installed and, yeah… I traced an Bitcoin seller at a certain geographic location having his IP from the transaction details. The next thing I did was to look for the Deep ONION community, because I was scared enough from what I’ve seen in the above-mentioned video, to seek some kind of human interaction with people that already took the anonymity and privacy to a new level, through their work in building [DeepONION]( https://deeponion.org/) and integrating it with [Tor]( https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en). And boy, oh boy, what a community they have! First I’ve joined on DeepONION [Forum]( https://deeponion.org/community/) where I’ve spent the following 2 hours reading stuff. *See [here]( https://deeponion.org/community/threads/how-to-join-to-deeponion-community-video-guide.71/) how to join. Then, I’ve connected with DeepONION on [Telegram]( https://telegram.org/) where all questions are asked and answered. I’ve found out that just reading from time to time different posts on DeepONION chat I was actually learning new stuff about different altcoins and philosophy, and social networking, and trading, and much more, not just about DeepONION. About two hours later I stumbled on this information which I was not paying attention at first although is on the DeepONION website Home page: Six Reasons You Should Use Deep-Onion *Totally Anonymous: Your original IP will not be shown to the network because Deep Onion operates over TOR. Your new "ip" will be something like this: "a5ke53qniu5xqofq.onion" *Invincible Payment: With the use of hidden addresses, Deep Onion payments are totally invincible and cannot be traced by anybody or agency. Our incoming DeepSend feature will further enhance the anonymity of the coin. *Continous Enhancement: Dev team will release new features with better usability and security. See road-map for details. *Speedy Confirmation: Deep onion's confirmation time is fast. This means that you can send and transfer money very fast unlike the slow ways of Bitcoin. *Encrypted End-to-end Message: You can send secured messages to other users of DeepOnion. *Helping the TOR Network: By operating DeepOnion, you help to increase the number of nodes on the TOR network, and in so doing, you help people all over the world stay anonymous online. Coin Specifications *PoW/PoS. *X13 algorithm for PoW. *5 block transaction confirmations. *50 minted block confirmations. *Total coins will be around 25 million after 10 years. *There will be around 20 million coins produced by PoW of which 18 million ONIONs (90%) is premined at genesis block. The majority of these will be distributed FREELY to the community. *About 2 million ONIONs will be mineable by the public. At this point, I was convinced that from now on I will be hooked by this project so I’ve started to install my Onion wallet. It can be found [here]( https://deeponion.org/index.php#download), available for multiple OS. During the installation process, I've needed a bit of guidance in creating a .conf file that was required in order to connect the wallet, but I’ve found all that I’ve needed in [this tutorial]( https://deeponion.org/community/threads/deeponion-windows-wallet-installation-video-guide.70/) for my Windows. It was created by an Onion member to help the others. Is not that a beautiful thing? I have not seen an installation guide for Mac or Linux, but I guess it would not be a problem if help is needed with such strong and committed community. Currently, there is an [AirDrop](https://deeponion.org/community/apply.php) campaign going on, where you can get free Onions, but there are some rules to be accepted, so join Telegram and ask for more information there, since acceptance is related to the rank you have in [bitcointalk]( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2006010.0). So you will need to be a member of bitcointalk.org and have a rank above Jr. Member to be eligible for DeepONION AirDrops. But if you don’t have a bitcointalk.org account don’t be sad. On the [DeepONION forum](https://deeponion.org/community/), there are a lot of bounties, freebies, contests, and a lot of nice people to help around. Notice the ‘Fund my DeepONION Project’. It is a good place to start with since what I didn’t tell until now is that DeepONION is not about making a quick dollar. It’s about community and self-involvement. There are a lot more to be told about DeepONION, but for now, I’m ending my article here, hoping that I have been able to share a bit of my enthusiasm for this project with you all. Cheers! |

It is scary, isn’t it? \n\nI was so baffled about tracing someone so easy using [Visual Traceroute]( http://visualtraceroute.net/) and [Blockexplorer]( https://blockexplorer.com/) that I’ve immediately installed and, yeah… I traced an Bitcoin seller at a certain geographic location having his IP from the transaction details.\n\nThe next thing I did was to look for the Deep ONION community, because I was scared enough from what I’ve seen in the above-mentioned video, to seek some kind of human interaction with people that already took the anonymity and privacy to a new level, through their work in building [DeepONION]( https://deeponion.org/) and integrating it with [Tor]( https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en).\n\nAnd boy, oh boy, what a community they have! \n\nFirst I’ve joined on DeepONION [Forum]( https://deeponion.org/community/) where I’ve spent the following 2 hours reading stuff.\n \n*See [here]( https://deeponion.org/community/threads/how-to-join-to-deeponion-community-video-guide.71/) how to join.\n\nThen, I’ve connected with DeepONION on [Telegram]( https://telegram.org/) where all questions are asked and answered. \nI’ve found out that just reading from time to time different posts on DeepONION chat I was actually learning new stuff about different altcoins and philosophy, and social networking, and trading, and much more, not just about DeepONION.\n\nAbout two hours later I stumbled on this information which I was not paying attention at first although is on the DeepONION website Home page:\n\nSix Reasons You Should Use Deep-Onion\n*Totally Anonymous: Your original IP will not be shown to the network because Deep Onion operates over TOR. Your new \"ip\" will be something like this: \"a5ke53qniu5xqofq.onion\"\n*Invincible Payment: With the use of hidden addresses, Deep Onion payments are totally invincible and cannot be traced by anybody or agency. Our incoming DeepSend feature will further enhance the anonymity of the coin.\n*Continous Enhancement: Dev team will release new features with better usability and security. See road-map for details.\n*Speedy Confirmation: Deep onion's confirmation time is fast. This means that you can send and transfer money very fast unlike the slow ways of Bitcoin.\n*Encrypted End-to-end Message: You can send secured messages to other users of DeepOnion.\n*Helping the TOR Network: By operating DeepOnion, you help to increase the number of nodes on the TOR network, and in so doing, you help people all over the world stay anonymous online.\n\nCoin Specifications\n*PoW/PoS. \n*X13 algorithm for PoW. \n*5 block transaction confirmations.\n*50 minted block confirmations. \n*Total coins will be around 25 million after 10 years. \n*There will be around 20 million coins produced by PoW of which 18 million ONIONs (90%) is premined at genesis block. The majority of these will be distributed FREELY to the community. \n*About 2 million ONIONs will be mineable by the public.\n\nAt this point, I was convinced that from now on I will be hooked by this project so I’ve started to install my Onion wallet. It can be found [here]( https://deeponion.org/index.php#download), available for multiple OS.\n\nDuring the installation process, I've needed a bit of guidance in creating a .conf file that was required in order to connect the wallet, but I’ve found all that I’ve needed in [this tutorial]( https://deeponion.org/community/threads/deeponion-windows-wallet-installation-video-guide.70/) for my Windows.\n\nIt was created by an Onion member to help the others. Is not that a beautiful thing? I have not seen an installation guide for Mac or Linux, but I guess it would not be a problem if help is needed with such strong and committed community.\n\nCurrently, there is an [AirDrop](https://deeponion.org/community/apply.php) campaign going on, where you can get free Onions, but there are some rules to be accepted, so join Telegram and ask for more information there, since acceptance is related to the rank you have in [bitcointalk]( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2006010.0). So you will need to be a member of bitcointalk.org and have a rank above Jr. Member to be eligible for DeepONION AirDrops. \n\nBut if you don’t have a bitcointalk.org account don’t be sad. On the [DeepONION forum](https://deeponion.org/community/), there are a lot of bounties, freebies, contests, and a lot of nice people to help around.\n\n\nNotice the ‘Fund my DeepONION Project’. It is a good place to start with since what I didn’t tell until now is that DeepONION is not about making a quick dollar. It’s about community and self-involvement. \n\nThere are a lot more to be told about DeepONION, but for now, I’m ending my article here, hoping that I have been able to share a bit of my enthusiasm for this project with you all.\n\nCheers!",

| title | Ledger Nano S and MyEtherWallet = LOVE |
| body | Alright, folks! Hope you are all well and happy! I am kind of both if not taking in consideration that I’ve drunk too much coffee over the evening and now I’m sleepless. Well, why not better use this time to continue to share with you my adventures using my new Ledger Nano S? Before going any further I would like to mention that I’m not a trader nor a person from who to take investment advice, but now, at the moment when I'm writing this I have an interest in [Rakugo](https://rakugo.co/ico). It's a small one, as you will see if reading till the end, but I think is correct to mention it since the beginning. To give a bit of context, I will say that these days there are a lot of ICOs going out there for a lot of projects, some of them with the potential to bring a nice ROI on a long run. Some of them will bring ROI while many others will probably won’t survive. Do your own research and analysis before investing, invest only what you can afford to lose, and do not take a decision solely by the information that comes from one source. Returning to our story, most ICOs are using Etherium network, so in terms of investing in one of these ICOs an Etherium wallet is needed. As far as I’ve seen, most of ICOs are recommending [MEW](https://www.myetherwallet.com/) and since my new Ledger Nano S is supported by MEW I wanted to try it out and see how it goes end-to-end. In order to connect my Ledger to MEW I found it useful to follow the instructions from [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8q5MJ08_OY) . I’ve hit the Like button and subscribed as well, so please do the same if you find this guy's video helpful as well. Now, I had a small problem. My Ledger was connected to my wallet but no transactions were made so far, so I’ve started by buying some Ether. I’m using [Bittylicious](https://bittylicious.com) as my favorite place to buy crypto due to the fact that I’m located in UK so it comes with a reliable and fast FIAT transfer between the sellers and buyers. I’ve used Bittylicious before but this was the first time when I was sending to my Ledger connected to MyEatherWallet. The average time to complete a transaction from the start when I’ve submitted my buying request on Bittylicious, passing through processing my payment to the seller, and the moment when I had my ETH in MyEatherWallet was around 10 minutes. And since I’m interested in investing for 3-4-5 years and I’m not into daily trading is obvious that I have a high degree of interest in today’s ICOs that are active out there. To summarize, at this stage I had a secure Ether wallet, some Ether to spend, and all that I had to do was to filter through dozens of ICOs and choose one that gains my trust. This requires to search for information, and ideally the source of information to come from an independent entity, and also the more sources you’ve got for a particular subject under investigation the better. Nowadays there are good people out there that they’ve started to provide condensed reviews over trending ICOs, which saves time. For my researches, I’ve used https://coins.best/ico-reviews/ Guess at what ICO I’ve looked first? Yes, Rakugo it was! Once I’ve read the above article https://coins.best/ico-reviews/rakugo/ I’ve moved to this one https://www.smithandcrown.com/sale/rakugo/ and then I’ve dived in reading the Whitepaper. Besides the business model and the product's features, one thing that I’ve liked about Rakugo’s ICO was that there is a maximum cap limit for the invested amount which keeps the tokens sale nicely spread between many small investors while keeping the big wales outside the game. I consider this as a must for any ICO that wants to develop a strong community around it so it can draw energy for future development and success. Then looked through google to find team members profiles. Checked! All good here. LinkeIn links are available on [rakugo](https://rakugo.co/ico) for each team member. Next step was to test the responsiveness of the Rakugo”s team at community requests. Here I must say that I had the pleasure to discuss with [Brendan](https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendanplayford/), one of the co-founders of Rakugo, on the [Slack channel](rakugoico.slack.com) and a bit later on Telegram where I’ve found a nice and strong community. Below a screenshot with the Rakugo’s Telegram moderators being active at an hour when most of the people are sleeping sound. I consider this to be a sign of commitment, which I didn’t see in some other ICOs communities analyzed in the previous weeks. For any question I had, Brendan, Conrad and Wyatt provided a clear and straightforward answer. The next thing I did was to follow the instructions provided on [Rakugo web site](https://rakugo.co/ico) and complete the transaction of sending Ether to the ICOs address. The RTK tokens are minted immediately and are to be seen in the wallet usually in a couple of minutes. Since was the first time I was adding a token to MyEtherWallet I did a mistake. When the wallet is unlocked there is a form that looks as below: What I did wrong was to input 0 on Decimals instead of 18 as it should and because of that, the number of tokens that I had was wrongly displayed. Although my problem was related to my wallet and nothing to do with Rakugo, with the help of Wyatt over Telegram I’ve managed to find the solution and delete the previously added custom token and fill up a correct form which fixed the way my tokens were displayed. And now I’m the happy owner of a small piece of the future. Thanks for reading! |

| title | Ledger Nano S Cryptocurrency hardware wallet |
| body | Hello, good people! Today was a happy day! Finally, my [Ledger Nano S](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s) arrived after 7 weeks since I've ordered it, so I've jumped on installing it with the goal of storing my altcoins for long term safe keeping. Some four hours later I've achieved my objectives and now I'm writing this guide with the hope that someone might find it useful. Before continuing I need to mention that I’m not affiliated in any way with the company that produces the Ledger Nano S or any of their collaborators. Because the first thing that friends had asked me after telling them about my intention to buy a Ledger Nano S was about what cryptocurrency can be stored on it. The information is on [Ledger Nano S website](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s) under Companion apps section. All supported coins are listed there. While following the initial set up instructions from [here](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/start/ledger-nano-s), start downloading the [Ledger Manager](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/manager) on your PC. Note that Ledger Manager is a [Chrome application](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/apps), so you will need Chrome browser (possibly a Chrome account) to be already installed on your PC at the moment when you're installing Ledger Manager. After the LN S set up is done you will need Ledger Manager to update device firmware and to install different wallets, referred as apps as official terminology. Please, make sure you note down the PIN no. and pass phrase during the initial setup of your Ledger! You will find in the package a special piece of paper to do write down this important information. Make sure that later on, you will be able to understand exactly what have you noted down there. Store it someplace safe. As a default, your Ledger will come with Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets preinstalled. Now, make sure that your Ledger is in dashboard mode, like below, otherwise, the Ledger Manager will not be connected, assuming that you’ve already installed it and it's open. It took me a while to understand that. If until this point everything went alright, then in Ledger Manager you should see something like below: Before starting to customize your Ledger with the wallets of your choosing, on the right side you can see a bin and a blue downwards arrow to delete or install a wallet, I suggest that you go first to Firmware’s tab under Store section, in the left side menu and make the update to latest version Here you might encounter a problem, as I did. After pressing the Install button there is a process and in my case, it returned an on screen error message stating that there is not enough space on the Ledger to perform the install. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the error so to show a screenshot of it, but if it happens to you as well don’t worry. Delete all wallets from your Lodger Nano S and perform the firmware update. If you have any coins already stored in your Ledger are safe and sound and not impacted when upgrading the Ledger or when deleting the wallets contained within. To summarize, until now you’ve done with the Ledger set up, noted down the PIN and Pas phrase, upgraded to latest firmware version and you’ve installed whatever specific wallets from Ledger Manager. In order to see your actual coins and to be able to send/receive them, we need another set of applications. This becomes a bit confusing if we take into consideration that for Ripple there is a desktop application while for Bitcoin and Etherium the app is a browser extension. The first step is to download/install from the following list if any is in your scope. Note that Dodge, STRATIS and other supported altcoin wallets will use the Bitcoin Chrome application wallet UI, so there is no dedicated UIs build for them. *[Bitcoin](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/bitcoin) *[Ethereum](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/ethereum) *[Ripple](https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/ripple) Important to note is that at any given time it can be only one Lodger app running on your machine. Let’s suppose that after installing the Ripple wallet you’ll want to open it but you still have the Ledger Manager open. In this case, you need to exit from the Ledger Manager first in order to get the Ripple wallet UI open. Later on, if you want to open the Bitcoin wallet UI you need to close Ripple one first, and so on. Also, make sure that you follow the information regarding the way you need to set up the [Browser support](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlvNiOhiEMo) within your Ledger wallet. For Ripple, as for example, you need to navigate using your Ledger buttons to your Ripple wallet and open it. There navigate to Settings and access the menu option Browser Support and confirm NO option by pressing both buttons at the same time. If everything went well until now you should see something like this in your PC Ripple wallet UI: For managing altcoins, as I've stated above, you can use Bitcoin and Etherium chrome extension wallets UIs used in conjunction with the specific one [e.g. Dodge] installed on your Ledger. More info [here]( http://support.ledgerwallet.com/knowledge_base/topics/how-to-use-altcoins-with-your-nano-s). Once you have opened the Dodge wallet on your Lodger, for example, you will see in the chrome extension app your options to send/receive Dodge coins. Let me know if you have any questions, I will do my best to respond. Vires in numeris |

More info [here]( http://support.ledgerwallet.com/knowledge_base/topics/how-to-use-altcoins-with-your-nano-s).\nOnce you have opened the Dodge wallet on your Lodger, for example, you will see in the chrome extension app your options to send/receive Dodge coins.\n\n\n\nLet me know if you have any questions, I will do my best to respond.\n\nVires in numeris",

| body | I see your point and there is no contradiction here when we are speaking about risks associated with technology. But I think that in the real world if someone is so upset on me that is willing and committed to spending time, money, knowledge just to get specifically my pictures/data and harm me in some way, has a very low chance to happen. Is more likely that I will be hit by a car or I will slip in the bathroom and smash my head on the floor. A person who has the knowledge to hack me or a server to get pictures of me from public cameras, I think it has more important things to spend his time on than on an average Joe like me. It's about a process, and to hack someone implies a purpose that makes that person a premeditated target for attack. The purpose is the keyword. How strong that purpose is so it would drive someone to hack me? When a person becomes such target, the amount of data that is already out there makes everything a matter of how much money someone is willing to invest in finding everything about that particular target. Just for the fun of it? I doubt that. That's why the hackers are using the method of encrypting the victim's data and ask for a ransom and not taking it and use it to name and shame. Simply it does not work. There are too many average Joe's on this planet. If you are not a politician or a celebrity, then, in my opinion, no one cares how you look, what you do or how you do it. And if you are a politician, a celebrity, etc then you can afford to pay for better security. There are billions of cameras out there and hundreds of thousands already hacked, available for be seen by anyone already. What's the overall impact? For a particular person who has the misfortune to be a victim of some malicious attack, the impact can be very high emotionally, financially and socially, I fully agree with that. But all these incidents, in the bigger picture, are no more harmful than the car accidents are to the car producing industry. The age of privacy and anonymity in the sense we know it and understand it today will change and we will adapt to it as we always do with all changes in our environment. I've found that considering by default that everyone is watched all the time, then is easier to pass over it and enjoy all the technological opportunities without fear. Anyway, thank you for the interesting debate and the opportunity to exchange opinions! Regards, |

| body | Hi @jbee I think we are agreeing with each other, Im saying its too late to go back to a time on anonymity, and we probably dont want that as you point out. We do however currently live in a state where we dont know if we are being watched, and I think thats wrong. Your point about the criminal who operates in your area havinga problem because they will get caught is a good example; is it better to catch a criminal, or stop a crime? If the criminal is certain of apprehension due to him/her knowing survellance is in operation, its highly unlikely they will commit a crime, however if the surveillance is invisible, they probably will not commit the crime. You might be comfortable with a hotel surveillance, or government surveillance seeing your naked arse, but what if you upset someone on steemit and they start tearing down your life; they get your naked arse photos and use them to start damaging your personal and professional relationships? Maybe you still dont care, all my point is, you as the person being watched, shoudl know when, how and who is watching, so you can make an informed choice. |

| body | Hi, Thank you for the interesting subject and article, Scalextrix! I think that in the near future our concepts of what privacy and the right to it will be adjusted to different levels of the technology will require more access to our individual data. Now, if we keep in mind that all critical info about average Joe is already stored in government books. If that average Joe is not living in the woods, which is fine with me if it does, then more than likely it will need an ID card, possibly a driving license and will have tax records, etc. If he ever required medical assistance or had no more than a tooth extracted, there are records about him stored outside his control, and IF someone really wants to spend time and money to find and use that info then it will. Learning how to use a map and a compass in order to calculate position might be rewarding, but I don’t want to do that when I’m visiting a new city as a tourist. I really don't want to return to the time when was supposed to walk down to the doctor, after a previous appointment, wait in the clinic to be called in, spend half of day just to get a piece of paper for the monthly renewal of my treatment, which by the way, I get it since the age of 6. Nowadays, by allowing an application to get access to my location, camera, and personal data, I can get my treatment by taking just a trip to the pharmacy store at a time of my convenience. Not to mention that my doctor's time is better used with people that are more in need to have a classic consultation. In my neighborhood are cameras all over the place. I tell you that any thief or any rule breaker will have a hard time getting his business around here. Everyone is feeling a lot safer knowing that it must be a straight out idiot who will attempt to do any harm and imagine that it will get away with that. So why should I get scared by the fact that one of those cameras will probably record my naked arse when I'm passing near windows after a shower? I think the price for complete privacy is living a life outside basic commodities of our time, and I'm too lazy to renounce to all this. Yes, there are risks while embracing technology. But no gain comes without some pain, it is known! I’m sure that by trying and failing, by constant and relentless learning, we will be able to make a full step into the future, addressing anything that comes on our way, whatever security and ethic or moral issue might be. In the end, losing a certain level of privacy and being transparent in return to a more comfortable life is not a bad deal for me. |
