| title | Reproductive performance of Pig 🐷 |
| body | Greetings guys.. It's my pleasure to be here again... Today... I'll like to talk about one of my profession.. And that's piggery.. We shall be discussing about the reproduction aspect. So, take your time to go through it.. and read to understand. The Importance of Reproductive Performance Livestock farmers generally appreciate the time and input costs required to grow animals from birth to market weight. What is sometimes overlooked is the substantial expense involved with maintaining the mature breeding animals that are necessary to produce any stock for subsequent growing and finishing. Profitability in any commercial livestock-breeding unit is related closely to reproductive efficiency. Unfortunately, some producers and even many of their "expert" advisers pay insufficient attention to this aspect. No presently available procedure allows prediction of current or future fertility. Thus, accurate monitoring of immediate past performance is essential to identify problems quickly and to initiate solutions before consequences become too severe. Some considerations for the assessment of performance and suggestions for problem solving are presented later in this section. Boar Selection The boars have more impact than the females. Select wisely and carefully. Concentrate on performance trait(s) of economic importance and select from source that test or record as many boars as possible (high selection intensity) Make certain only healthy replacements selected. This is especially critical if boars are purchased. Select for physical soundness: strong feet and legs, watch them walk, no buckling of front legs or stiffness in hind. Boar must have good general conformation and willingness to breed (good libido). Boar Management Feed to keep fit, not fat, usually receive sow gestating diet; If purchased, isolate for 3-6 weeks, allow 3-4 weeks to settle in; Can use to breed at 6-7 months of age - occasional service; Ensure that first mating is successful. Use a small, quiet sow or gilt in good estrus. Mating in boar's pen may be the best location since the male is not distracted by new surroundings. Wait until 7-8 months of age before regular use, 2-4 times per week until one year of age. Mature boars can perform 6-10 services per week. Boar to Sow-Gilt Ratios Natural service - 1 boar for every 20 females AI + natural - 1 boar for every 20-30 females All AI - 1 boar for every 40-50 females. Larger herds require fewer boar's Gilt Management Select from dams with good prolificacy and mothering ability. Important traits are sound feet & legs, good growth rate & back fat, 14 or more well spaced teats with none inverted and sexually mature by 220 days of age. Within herd selection makes genetic evaluation easier and provides fewer health concerns but must watch out for inbreeding. Purchase from other breeder or hybrid producing company simplifies within herd breeding program but should make certain of genetic quality and health status Isolate all additions for 3-4 weeks. Factors Influencing Puberty Genetics - Yorkshire and Landrace usually mature slightly earlier than Hampshire or Duroc. - crossbreeding advances puberty. Nutrition - restricted feed intake can delay puberty slightly. recommend to allow only 0.5 kg gain per day after market weight. - obesity interferes with normal ovarian function. Distress - moving or mixing gilts - fight - tends to cause puberty 4-7 days later - contact with boars may advance puberty - related to pheromones - direct exposure most effective - exposure should not be too early (after 155 days of age) - older boars more effective. Light - some evidence for advantage of increase light - may decrease age at puberty - may increase litter size When to mate litter size related to number of heats more than age or weight fewest ova at first estrus (heat) = smallest potential litter increase by about 1 ovum each for 2nd, 3rd heat so potential litter size increases normally breed in 2nd or 3rd heat so gilts farrow by 10-11 months of age. Selecting the proper time to breed replacement gilts is an important part of reproductive management. A few precocious females may begin estrous cycles and show estrous signs by five months but most do not reach sexual maturity until around six months of age. Since the ovulation rate increases at each subsequent estrus period, many farmers delay mating until the second or even the third cycle to increase litter size. Although the number of piglets born will increase if mating is postponed, there are other factors to consider in making the decision about when to mate gilts. The results from a number of research trials comparing litter size after mating at the first or third estrus are shown in the following table. Mating estrus Piglet increase per day of delayed mating First Third Brooks & Cole, Livst. Prod. Sci. 7:67 8.8 9.9 0.026 Pay & Davis, Anim. Prod. 17:85 7.9 9.3 0.033 MacPherson et al, Anim. Prod. 24:333 8.4 10.4 0.062 Young & King, J. Anim. Sci. 53:19 9.6 10.6 0.023 Mating gilts on the third observed estrus resulted in larger litters but also required feeding the dams for an additional six weeks. Depending on costs for feed and housing, the extra piglets may or may not compensate for the additional expenses. Pregnancy rates were 69.6% for animals bred at first estrus and 77.4% when mated at the third estrus in the study conducted by Young and King. Although this difference was not statistically significant in this trial, subsequent experience also indicated a somewhat lower fertility at the first cycle. An even lower pregnancy rate is usually obtained in the University of Guelph research herd when sexual maturity is induced with hormone injections (about 55% for six month old gilts inseminated on the induced estrus vs. 80% in sows). Perhaps the best practical advice for producers is to wait for the second or later heat whenever this is convenient. However, if replacement animals are needed to fill groups and no older females are available, gilts can be mated on their first estrus. If gilts are mated at the first cycle, use herd boars rather than expensive semen purchased from an outside supplier. Estrous signs Swelling, reddening of vulva - not positive Ears erect (especially in Yorkshire breed) Standing reflex - response to pressure on back (see Back Pressure Test described below). Boar presence may be necessary, especially for gilts Allows mounting and copulation Characteristic grunt (or song) Good Practices for Detecting Estrus Use a sexually motivated boar in an adjacent pen or introduce the boar directly into the pen containing the females to be tested. Boars used for estrus testing should be 9 months of age or older. Be certain that the boar is familiar with and comfortable working in the testing environment. Allow sufficient time to do a thorough job in all pens. Change boars regularly. Allow no more than 15 - 20 seconds of vigorous courtship. Supervise the testing procedure at all times. Keep accurate records of weaning, suspicious and actual mating dates. Back Pressure Test Whenever possible, allow boar and females to have head-to-head access through pen partition or gate. If in or very near estrus, a female should show definite interest in the boar almost immediately. Rub the interested female's flanks and scratch her back. Gently put firm pressure on loin region or sit on her rump. Animals in estrus will allow this but others will not. A positive response is when any female stands still and allows the tester to place full weight on her back, Gilts may only respond if a boar is near. Most sows will show a positive response anytime that they are in estrus. Retest any animals showing suspicious signs in a few hours. Mating Practices Group recently weaned sows and replacement gilts near boars. Design all pens for easy access to facilitate entry and exit of both people and animals during estrus detection and mating. A proper mating area requires ample space for all courtship and mating activities. Provide nonslip footing with roughened concrete and sand or grit spread as needed. Remove any objects or projections, such as feeders or nipple drinkers, that might cause injury during courtship-mating. Try to mate animals of approximately equal sizes. It is perhaps best to move the female into the boar's pen for mating since she may be easier to get out after the mating. Supervise all matings to insure that the boar's penis penetrates into the vagina, not into the anus. A proper mating-ejaculation sequence should last at least three minutes. If shorter, repeat the service. Remove the female quickly after the boar dismounts unless the copulation was interrupted before three minutes. Always be gentle when handling animals. Record all events accurately and quickly. Timing & number of services Ovulation occurs about 36-40 hours after the beginning of standing heat Optimum insemination is 6-12 hours prior to ovulation Therefore, mate 24 hours after initiation of standing heat and rebreed 8-16 hours later if female will still accept the boar or is still showing a positive (standing) response to the Back Pressure Test. A different boar might be used at each service if breeding only for market pigs. Feeding Replacement Gilts If gilts are placed on a restricted level after selection, increase feed intake by 50% 10-14 days before breeding. This process, called flushing, might increase ovulation rate. If flushed, reduce feed intake after breeding Some believe that heavy feeding during early gestation increases embryonic loss but most evidence indicates that this is not true! Housing for Breeding Females Group housing is preferred. Tethering or over-crowded confinement hampers breeding ability through difficulties in detecting estrus Pregnancy Diagnosis Sows and replacement gilts require considerable attention in the mating area but only casual observation once they are pregnant. Thus, producers usually place pregnant females in a gestating area but need some reliable method to check that conception occurred before animals are moved from the mating unit. All attendants should be aware that domesticated animals rarely exhibit any signs of sexual behavior one cycle interval after a fertile mating. Thus, for animals mated on known dates, demonstration of sexual receptivity when the next estrus period is due indicates no conception from the previous service. In contrast, the absence of sexual behavior is strong evidence for pregnancy. Sows and replacement gilts should remain in the mating area, with daily boar contact to check for estrus, for around 25 days after service. Once they pass three weeks without estrus signs they can be presumed pregnant and moved to the gestating area. Other methods for pregnancy testing are also available. Livestock producers must recognize that there is one inherent problem that will continue to be associated with even the most reliable pregnancy test. No matter how accurate the procedure, the results are only valid for the time when the sample was collected or the physical examination conducted. There can be no guarantee that the embryonic or fetal piglets present at the time of testing will continue to develop normally throughout the remainder of gestation. Early Embryonic Mortality Unless fertility depressing abnormalities or mistimed matings occur, fertilization rates in pigs approach 100% so almost all ovulated oocytes have a chance of developing into viable piglets. Unfortunately, a substantial proportion of these early zygotes do not successfully complete gestation and this is a major cause of reduced litter size. Most of the losses occur during the first 3 to 4 weeks and are designated as early embryonic mortality. When death occurs at this very early stage of pregnancy, the conceptus is resorbed completely in the uterus so losses remain undetected. Some embryonic mortality undoubtedly results from chromosomal abnormalities present in one or possibly both fertilizing gametes. Abnormal karyotypes have been detected in a high proportion of aborted human fetuses but not in those from domesticated mammals. This might infer that chromosomal defects are relatively unimportant in livestock. However, the livestock conceptus may be lost at very early stages before karyotyping is possible, or the damage could be at a submicroscopic level. Some degree of embryonic mortality must be considered unavoidable and represents a natural mechanism for elimination of unfit genotypes but the extent of this in livestock is uncertain. Preparation for Farrowing Follow an All-In All-Out system. Treat females with anthelmintic about 3-4 weeks before they are due. Feed a laxative diet for the week before moving into the farrowing crate or pen. Thoroughly clean and disinfect all farrowing crates between occupants Wash the sow thoroughly to remove dirt and parasite eggs and place in the farrowing location about one week before her expected date of parturition. Go to section on farrowing considerations. Seasonal Influences on Pig Reproduction Wild pigs are seasonal breeders, usually mating in the late fall and giving birth to piglets in early spring. Although selection over many generations has almost totally eliminated any seasonality of reproduction in domesticated pigs, some traces still remain. Close observation of large groups in several countries indicated slightly longer intervals from weaning to estrus, more animals not returning at all within a reasonable interval, and lower prolificacy in animals weaned during late summer and early fall. This infertility has been attributed to higher temperatures in some regions and undoubtedly this may be a factor in tropical climates. However, since these problems are observed routinely in cooler temperate regions such as in the UK (latitude 50 - 60o N) and in southern Australia (latitude 35 - 40o S), photoperiod may be an even more important contributor. Producers wishing to insure they have sufficient pregnant animals to keep farrowing units operating at full efficiency should always cull a few less sows and keep a few more replacement gilts during the summer and early fall. Assessing Reproductive Performance No presently available procedure allows prediction of current or future fertility. Thus, accurate monitoring of immediate past performance is essential to identify problems quickly and to initiate solutions before consequences become too severe. For sows, true productivity must combine litter size, piglet survival and farrowing interval, so a useful measure is Piglets Weaned per Sow per Year. Many producers delude themselves, or try to impress their neighbors, by omitting culled females and gilts from the calculation. However, all members of the breeding herd are part of the overhead and should be included in any efficiency calculation. Gilts may be added to the monthly inventory as soon as they pass market weight and are retained as potential breeding stock or when they are first mated. When the performance is calculated on an annual basis, proportional figures can be used for females kept for periods less than a full year. Litter sizes are sometimes calculated and even published in official production statistics with gilt litters excluded. Since gilts produce 30 to 50% of total litters in commercial piggeries, such figures may look impressive but are quite misleading. Another simple way to monitor productivity of a large continuously farrowing sow unit is by calculation of the Piglets Weaned per Sow per Month in operations where weaner pigs are sold or Finished Animals Marketed per Sow per Month in Farrow-to Finish herds. The actual number of piglets weaned or marketed is divided by the total number of mature females on the herd inventory. A monthly average of 1.7 corresponds to over 20 piglets per sow per year and this figure should be maintained or exceeded in most problem-free operations. Suggestions for Performance Targets and Potential Problem Values for Pig Reproduction Target Potential problems Weaned/sow/year > 22 < 19 Weaned/litter > 9.5 < 9 Litters/sow/year > 2.4 < 2.1 Piglets born live/litter >10.9 < 10 Stillborn piglets (%) < 5 > 8 Mummified piglets (%) < 0.5 > 1 Preweaning mortality (%) < 8 > 12 Nonproductive sow days < 50 > 75 Weaning to estrus days < 7 > 9 Farrowing rate (%) > 85 < 80 Sow mortality (%) < 2 > 3 Postweanig loss (%) < 2 > 3 Finishing loss (%) < 1.5 > 2 Age at 1st mating (mo) < 7.5 > 8 I hope with this topic for tonight.. you have seen some helpful tips to use on your farm or at the place of work. The results from a number of research trials comparing litter size after mating at the first or third estrus are shown in the following table.\nMating estrus\tPiglet increase per day of delayed mating\nFirst\tThird\nBrooks & Cole, Livst. Prod. Sci. 7:67\t8.8\t9.9\t0.026\nPay & Davis, Anim. Prod. 17:85\t7.9\t9.3\t0.033\nMacPherson et al, Anim. Prod. 24:333\t8.4\t10.4\t0.062\nYoung & King, J. Anim. Sci. 53:19\t9.6\t10.6\t0.023\n\n\nMating gilts on the third observed estrus resulted in larger litters but also required feeding the dams for an additional six weeks. Depending on costs for feed and housing, the extra piglets may or may not compensate for the additional expenses.\n\nPregnancy rates were 69.6% for animals bred at first estrus and 77.4% when mated at the third estrus in the study conducted by Young and King. 80% in sows).\n\nPerhaps the best practical advice for producers is to wait for the second or later heat whenever this is convenient. However, if replacement animals are needed to fill groups and no older females are available, gilts can be mated on their first estrus. If gilts are mated at the first cycle, use herd boars rather than expensive semen purchased from an outside supplier.\n\nEstrous signs\n\nSwelling, reddening of vulva - not positive\nEars erect (especially in Yorkshire breed)\nStanding reflex - response to pressure on back (see Back Pressure Test described below). Boar presence may be necessary, especially for gilts\nAllows mounting and copulation\nCharacteristic grunt (or song)\nGood Practices for Detecting Estrus\n\nUse a sexually motivated boar in an adjacent pen or introduce the boar directly into the pen containing the females to be tested.\nBoars used for estrus testing should be 9 months of age or older.\nBe certain that the boar is familiar with and comfortable working in the testing environment.\nAllow sufficient time to do a thorough job in all pens.\nChange boars regularly.\nAllow no more than 15 - 20 seconds of vigorous courtship.\nSupervise the testing procedure at all times.\nKeep accurate records of weaning, suspicious and actual mating dates.\nBack Pressure Test\n\n\nWhenever possible, allow boar and females to have head-to-head access through pen partition or gate.\nIf in or very near estrus, a female should show definite interest in the boar almost immediately.\nRub the interested female's flanks and scratch her back.\nGently put firm pressure on loin region or sit on her rump. Animals in estrus will allow this but others will not. A positive response is when any female stands still and allows the tester to place full weight on her back, Gilts may only respond if a boar is near. Most sows will show a positive response anytime that they are in estrus.\nRetest any animals showing suspicious signs in a few hours.\nMating Practices\n\nGroup recently weaned sows and replacement gilts near boars.\nDesign all pens for easy access to facilitate entry and exit of both people and animals during estrus detection and mating.\nA proper mating area requires ample space for all courtship and mating activities.\nProvide nonslip footing with roughened concrete and sand or grit spread as needed.\nRemove any objects or projections, such as feeders or nipple drinkers, that might cause injury during courtship-mating.\nTry to mate animals of approximately equal sizes.\nIt is perhaps best to move the female into the boar's pen for mating since she may be easier to get out after the mating.\nSupervise all matings to insure that the boar's penis penetrates into the vagina, not into the anus.\nA proper mating-ejaculation sequence should last at least three minutes. If shorter, repeat the service.\nRemove the female quickly after the boar dismounts unless the copulation was interrupted before three minutes.\nAlways be gentle when handling animals.\nRecord all events accurately and quickly.\nTiming & number of services\n\nOvulation occurs about 36-40 hours after the beginning of standing heat\nOptimum insemination is 6-12 hours prior to ovulation\nTherefore, mate 24 hours after initiation of standing heat and rebreed 8-16 hours later if female will still accept the boar or is still showing a positive (standing) response to the Back Pressure Test.\nA different boar might be used at each service if breeding only for market pigs.\n\n\nFeeding Replacement Gilts\n\nIf gilts are placed on a restricted level after selection, increase feed intake by 50% 10-14 days before breeding. This process, called flushing, might increase ovulation rate.\nIf flushed, reduce feed intake after breeding\nSome believe that heavy feeding during early gestation increases embryonic loss but most evidence indicates that this is not true!\nHousing for Breeding Females\n\nGroup housing is preferred.\nTethering or over-crowded confinement hampers breeding ability through difficulties in detecting estrus\nPregnancy Diagnosis\n\n\nSows and replacement gilts require considerable attention in the mating area but only casual observation once they are pregnant. Once they pass three weeks without estrus signs they can be presumed pregnant and moved to the gestating area.\n\nOther methods for pregnancy testing are also available.\n\nLivestock producers must recognize that there is one inherent problem that will continue to be associated with even the most reliable pregnancy test. No matter how accurate the procedure, the results are only valid for the time when the sample was collected or the physical examination conducted. There can be no guarantee that the embryonic or fetal piglets present at the time of testing will continue to develop normally throughout the remainder of gestation.\n\nEarly Embryonic Mortality\n\nUnless fertility depressing abnormalities or mistimed matings occur, fertilization rates in pigs approach 100% so almost all ovulated oocytes have a chance of developing into viable piglets. Some degree of embryonic mortality must be considered unavoidable and represents a natural mechanism for elimination of unfit genotypes but the extent of this in livestock is uncertain.\nPreparation for Farrowing\n\nFollow an All-In All-Out system.\nTreat females with anthelmintic about 3-4 weeks before they are due.\nFeed a laxative diet for the week before moving into the farrowing crate or pen.\nThoroughly clean and disinfect all farrowing crates between occupants\nWash the sow thoroughly to remove dirt and parasite eggs and place in the farrowing location about one week before her expected date of parturition.\nGo to section on farrowing considerations.\n\nSeasonal Influences on Pig Reproduction\n\nWild pigs are seasonal breeders, usually mating in the late fall and giving birth to piglets in early spring. Producers wishing to insure they have sufficient pregnant animals to keep farrowing units operating at full efficiency should always cull a few less sows and keep a few more replacement gilts during the summer and early fall.\nAssessing Reproductive Performance\n\nNo presently available procedure allows prediction of current or future fertility. Thus, accurate monitoring of immediate past performance is essential to identify problems quickly and to initiate solutions before consequences become too severe. For sows, true productivity must combine litter size, piglet survival and farrowing interval, so a useful measure is Piglets Weaned per Sow per Year.\n\n\nMany producers delude themselves, or try to impress their neighbors, by omitting culled females and gilts from the calculation. Since gilts produce 30 to 50% of total litters in commercial piggeries, such figures may look impressive but are quite misleading.\n\nAnother simple way to monitor productivity of a large continuously farrowing sow unit is by calculation of the Piglets Weaned per Sow per Month in operations where weaner pigs are sold or Finished Animals Marketed per Sow per Month in Farrow-to Finish herds. The actual number of piglets weaned or marketed is divided by the total number of mature females on the herd inventory. A monthly average of 1.7 corresponds to over 20 piglets per sow per year and this figure should be maintained or exceeded in most problem-free operations.\n\nSuggestions for Performance Targets and Potential Problem Values for Pig Reproduction\n\n \t\nTarget\n\nPotential problems\nWeaned/sow/year\n\n> 22\n\n< 19\nWeaned/litter\n\n> 9.5\n\n< 9\nLitters/sow/year\n\n> 2.4\n\n< 2.1\nPiglets born live/litter\n\n>10.9\n\n< 10\nStillborn piglets (%)\n\n< 5\n\n> 8\nMummified piglets (%)\n\n< 0.5\n\n> 1\nPreweaning mortality (%)\n\n< 8\n\n> 12\nNonproductive sow days\n\n< 50\n\n> 75\nWeaning to estrus days\n\n< 7\n\n> 9\nFarrowing rate (%)\n\n> 85\n\n< 80\nSow mortality (%)\n\n< 2\n\n> 3\nPostweanig loss (%)\n\n< 2\n\n> 3\nFinishing loss (%)\n\n< 1.5\n\n> 2\nAge at 1st mating (mo)\n\n< 7.5\n\n> 8\n\nI hope with this topic for tonight.. you have seen some helpful tips to use on your farm or at the place of work. \n\nThank you for reading... | title | INFERTILITY, CAUSES AND SOLUTION |
| body | Good evening everyone Good to be here again after spending some day in hospital.. Thanks for your prayer and act of kindness.. More blessings.. During my stay at hospital.,I had some conversation with my Doctor.. Which benefited me alot.. And I'll like to share it with you all... So please take your time to read it all. Today, I will be discussing *Infertility, causes and possible solution* Like i have always been doing, am not going to discuss using much of medical terms so that we can enjoy it, so am going down to our level for better understanding. so *sit down, relax and enjoy urself* Infertility is a global health problem and socially destabilizing condition for couples carrying several stigmas and a cause of marital disharmodisharmony. It occur among 8-12% of couples and vary from one region to the other, with prevalence of about 10-15% in develop nations and 20-46% in Africa. *Wat is infertility?* To a layman Infertility is the inability to produce offspring. In females, it is inability to conceive a child by natural process or inability to carry pregnancy till d completion of terms....this definition above is according to Bimbo Enitan But infertility means more. Let take an illustrations before definition proper., Most couples (approximately 85% ) will achieve pregnancy within one year of trying with greatest likelihood of conception occurring during the early months. Only an addition 7% of the couples will conceive in the second year *As a result, infertility has come to be defined as the inability to conceive within 12 months of trying* But mind you infertility affects both male and female It is a condition that affects approximately 2 out of every 6 couples in Nigeria and 1 out of 6 in develop nations like UK, America etc. *Let check out some facts* Do you know about 1/3 of cases of infertility are traceable to male I.e 30%....are you surprise..?? And also 1/3 of the cases are traceable to female too, I.e 30%....Hmmm balance In the remaining 1/4 of cases, the cause box infertility involves both male and female( genetic issue) or no cause can be identified. 1 more fact and we voom to the main issue Do u know infertility prevalence rate in osogbo and abakaliki is 48.1% , Illorin is 4% and north central of Nigeria is 15.4%.. These are some city and state in Nigeria. Hmmm wise up my people, marriage is not only finding that pretty lady and handsome guy. Lolz.. *Causes of infertility* Infertility occurs due to various factors, such as immature reproductive system, defective reproductive system, endocrine disorder among others Can I proceed... Let take the female first... *Infertility in female* I won't explain, I will only list them.. *OVULATION PROBLEMS* 1. Eating disorder such as anorexia(loss of appetite) and bulimia( a chronic eating disorder) 2. Heavy alcohol🍺🍻 or drug💊💉 intake 3. Excessive weight, Hmmm too fat😢🤣🤣 4. Stress... 5. Intense exercise dat causes a significant loss of body fat, Hmmm leap people 6. Extremely brief menstrual cycle 7. Tumour or ocyst 8. Hormonal imbalance *DAMAGE TO THE FALLOPIAN TUBE OR UTERUS* 1. pelvic inflammatory diseases 2. A previous infection STD dat is not well managed 3. Endometriosis or fibroid, see ladies can and marry, because if something did not grow in that stomach(pregnant), den something else will grow(fibroid) 4. Scar tissue 5. Chronic medical illness, this is another common source of infertility 6. A previous ectopic pregnancy ( a pregnant that does not develop in the womb but develop in the elsewhere) 7. DES SYNDROME, this is a medication given to women to prevent miscarriage or premature birth, this can cause infertility issue in the children dey finally give birth to 8. Abnormal cervical mucus which prevent sperm cells from reaching the egg or makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate the egg. *HOW TO PREVENT INFERTILITY IN FEMALE* Potential females are to do thorough physical examination of dia body, which may include look back at your health history, and do physical checking of your sexual organ...the breast, vagina etc Take a step to prevent STDs and treat thoroughly if you have Avoid heavy or frequent alcoholic drinks🍺🍻 and smoking 🚬 Avoid illicit drugs💊💉 Adopt good personal hygiene and health practice Go for check up to know how sexual active and fit you have . Well early marriage is good for female to prevent Infertility, don't wait till u are out of school or u are 30years Age is a great problem, the older d woman is, the better the chances of infertility...for unclear reasons, the number of eggs needed to conceive deceases from the day you started your first menstruation, and this eggs decreases at rapid rate as woman age increases.... Aging also affect the quality of those eggs *TREATMENT OF INFERTILITY* 1. See your Doctor 2. Urine And blood test will be done to assess if dia is infections or hormonal imbalance 3. Pelvic and breast examination( no dey do holy holy for urself but give it to someone that is promising ) 3. Sample cervical mucus and tissue to determine bid ovulation is occurring 4. HSG....this is a x-ray to view bd fallopian tube to check if there is blockage nor other abnormalities 5. Do Ultrasound to look at the uterus and ovaries NB; *Tracking your ovulation through fertility awareness program or counselling. 6. Taking antibiotics to remove an infections and treat well any STDs 7. Drug compliance is important 8. Dont panic 9. Sometimes surgery might be needed eg fibroid 10. Take medication to stimulate ovulation 11. Address all forms of hormonal imbalance like short menstrual cycle, scanty mens, and dark mens etc NB; *infertility causedbby genetic by problems or illness And better still go and adopt...it is not a crime. Now let's talk about Male. *MALE INFERTILITY* I will not talk more on this because it is not as complex as that of female... *Facts* Do you know that for the fact dat you have erectile organ during sex does not means u are fertile For the fact dat you ejaculate semen during sex does not mean you are normal For the fact dat there is sperm cells In ur semen does not mean you are okay.... *CAUSES OF INFERTILITY IN MALE* 1. Decrease in sperm count 2. Abnormal sperm 3. Obstruction of reproductive ducts 4. Other conditions like *cryptorchidism*(if the testis is not descending downward during child birth, such an individual will not be able to give birth unless a timely surgical operation is perform after birth) Alcoholism🍺🍻 and smoking🚬🚬 Trauma Mumps Long terms use of drug💊💊 Disorder of d hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid and pancreas can also caused it *SOLUTION TO MALE INFERTILITY* Go and see your Doctor They will direct you to the lab where your samples will be analyzed And the examination performed is *SEMEN ANALYSIS* This examination is not only meant for those who is having issues, it can be done before marriage so as to know the fitness of your man. Semen analysis is use to access male infertility, to determine the fertilizing capacity of that man u are following or to access the man's spermatozoa Many factors are consider during d analysis such as *macroscopic, microscopic, and scoring of d sperm cell* NB; Semen is what you ejaculate during sex, and a semen is made up of *5% of sperm cells, suspended in fluid medium called seminal fluid which is 60% and it also contain prostatic fliud* Sperm cell is produce by the testes and it is temporary stored in epididymis before ejaculation *SAMPLE COLLECTION* Semen are collected for analysis patients will be prepare prior to collection, He has to abstain from sex for 3-5 days Sample are collected through masturbation...no coitus interruption (withdrawal method) And the sample should be deliver to the lab and examine within 1hr of collection Sample should not be collected into condom, universal bottle are always given in the hospital *Characteristics of a gud freshly void sperm* Viscus (thick), Opaque Creamy white in colour Sticky with sweat smell And average semen per ejaculation is 2-5 ml So in the lab they check for all d abnormalities to some of the listed parameters *Microscopic examination* They check for the motility...a good sperm cell In the semen must be actively, progressive moving forward even up to 3 hrs after ejaculation So in the lab dey check if the sperm cell meet u with dis standard because we have various form of abnormal motility And another examination is to check for the morphology A Norma sperm cell should have an ova shape head and tail, all other forms will not be able to impregnate a woman Further analysis can also be done like staining processing and like If someone is said to be *Azozoospermia....it mean no sperm cell is produce in d semen* *Oligozoospermia..mean little sperm cell below normal is produce* *Normozoospermia...is d best amount of sperm cell dat can impregnate a woman, and dialect are about 20×10^6 / ml of ejaculation* *Polyzoospermia is producing above normal amount of sperm cell in an ejaculation, and dis mite be as a result of infection* Hmmm pls am sowi I won't be able to go further I have reach my elastic limits, this are some of things I pen down at hospital. A normal person for male infertility test is someone who just impregnate a lady, others are odd unless medically proven okay If you have been unable to get pregnant after one year of unprotected sex...Hmmm, please see medical expert And if u are shy of visiting d hospital, thinking dat you are normal, is beta u have a rethink and give it a try... My people, ladies and gentlemen, go for check up to be sure of him or her before accepting dat proposal. lolz NB; * fertility rate in Nigeria have been put to be someone who is have to give birth to 6 children, so below 6 means you are not fertile.... Research carried out in 1994 In 2014, WHO has it own as 5 children per woman, before you can claim to be fertile I think on this topic, you have learnt one or two things on *health talk* My name is Jonathan..a. k. a. Dr Jon's.. And am trying to make common sense.. Show some love to my post.. Love you all.. |

So please take your time to read it all. \n\nToday, I will be discussing *Infertility, causes and possible solution*\n\nLike i have always been doing, am not going to discuss using much of medical terms so that we can enjoy it, so am going down to our level for better understanding.\n\nso *sit down, relax and enjoy urself*\n\nInfertility is a global health problem and socially destabilizing condition for couples carrying several stigmas and a cause of marital disharmodisharmony.\n\nIt occur among 8-12% of couples and vary from one region to the other, with prevalence of about 10-15% in develop nations and 20-46% in Africa.\n\n*Wat is infertility?*\n\nTo a layman \n\nInfertility is the inability to produce offspring.\n\nIn females, it is inability to conceive a child by natural process or inability to carry pregnancy till d completion of terms....this definition above is according to Bimbo Enitan But infertility means more.\n\nLet take an illustrations before definition proper.,\n\nMost couples (approximately 85% ) will achieve pregnancy within one year of trying with greatest likelihood of conception occurring during the early months.\n\nOnly an addition 7% of the couples will conceive in the second year\n\n*As a result, infertility has come to be defined as the inability to conceive within 12 months of trying*\n\nBut mind you infertility affects both male and female\n\nIt is a condition that affects approximately 2 out of every 6 couples in Nigeria and 1 out of 6 in develop nations like UK, America etc.\n\n*Let check out some facts*\n\nDo you know about 1/3 of cases of infertility are traceable to male I.e 30%....are you surprise..??\n\nAnd also 1/3 of the cases are traceable to female too, I.e 30%....Hmmm balance \n\n\nIn the remaining 1/4 of cases, the cause box infertility involves both male and female( genetic issue) or no cause can be identified.\n\n1 more fact and we voom to the main issue\n\nDo u know infertility prevalence rate in osogbo and abakaliki is 48.1% , Illorin is 4% and north central of Nigeria is 15.4%.. These are some city and state in Nigeria. \n\nHmmm wise up my people, marriage is not only finding that pretty lady and handsome guy. Lolz.. \n\n*Causes of infertility*\nInfertility occurs due to various factors, such as immature reproductive system, defective reproductive system, endocrine disorder among others\n\nCan I proceed...\n\nLet take the female first...\n\n*Infertility in female*\nI won't explain, I will only list them..\n\n *OVULATION PROBLEMS*\n1. Eating disorder such as anorexia(loss of appetite) and bulimia( a chronic eating disorder)\n\n2. Heavy alcohol🍺🍻 or drug💊💉 intake\n\n3. Excessive weight, Hmmm too fat😢🤣🤣\n\n4. Stress...\n\n5. Intense exercise dat causes a significant loss of body fat, Hmmm leap people \n\n6. Extremely brief menstrual cycle\n\n7. Tumour or ocyst\n\n8. Hormonal imbalance\n\n*DAMAGE TO THE FALLOPIAN TUBE OR UTERUS*\n\n1. pelvic inflammatory diseases\n\n2. A previous infection STD dat is not well managed\n\n3. Endometriosis or fibroid, see ladies can and marry, because if something did not grow in that stomach(pregnant), den something else will grow(fibroid)\n\n4. Scar tissue \n\n5. Chronic medical illness, this is another common source of infertility \n\n6. A previous ectopic pregnancy ( a pregnant that does not develop in the womb but develop in the elsewhere)\n\n\n7. DES SYNDROME, this is a medication given to women to prevent miscarriage or premature birth, this can cause infertility issue in the children dey finally give birth to\n\n8. Abnormal cervical mucus which prevent sperm cells from reaching the egg or makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate the egg.\n\n\n*HOW TO PREVENT INFERTILITY IN FEMALE*\n\nPotential females are to do thorough physical examination of dia body, which may include look back at your health history, and do physical checking of your sexual organ...the breast, vagina etc\n\nTake a step to prevent STDs and treat thoroughly if you have\n\nAvoid heavy or frequent alcoholic drinks🍺🍻 and smoking 🚬\n\nAvoid illicit drugs💊💉\n\nAdopt good personal hygiene and health practice \n\nGo for check up to know how sexual active and fit you have .\n\nWell early marriage is good for female to prevent Infertility, don't wait till u are out of school or u are 30years\n\nAge is a great problem, the older d woman is, the better the chances of infertility...for unclear reasons, the number of eggs needed to conceive deceases from the day you started your first menstruation, and this eggs decreases at rapid rate as woman age increases....\n\nAging also affect the quality of those eggs\n\n\n\n\n\n*TREATMENT OF INFERTILITY*\n1. See your Doctor\n\n2. Urine And blood test will be done to assess if dia is infections or hormonal imbalance\n\n3. Pelvic and breast examination( no dey do holy holy for urself but give it to someone that is promising )\n\n3. Sample cervical mucus and tissue to determine bid ovulation is occurring\n\n4. HSG....this is a x-ray to view bd fallopian tube to check if there is blockage nor other abnormalities\n\n5. Do Ultrasound to look at the uterus and ovaries\n\nNB; *Tracking your ovulation through fertility awareness program or counselling.\n\n6. Taking antibiotics to remove an infections and treat well any STDs\n\n7. Drug compliance is important\n\n8. Dont panic\n\n9. Sometimes surgery might be needed eg fibroid\n\n10. Take medication to stimulate ovulation\n\n11. Address all forms of hormonal imbalance like short menstrual cycle, scanty mens, and dark mens etc\n\nNB; *infertility causedbby genetic by problems or illness \n\nAnd better still go and adopt...it is not a crime.\nNow let's talk about Male. \n\n\n*MALE INFERTILITY*\n\nI will not talk more on this because it is not as complex as that of female...\n\n*Facts*\nDo you know that for the fact dat you have erectile organ during sex does not means u are fertile\n\nFor the fact dat you ejaculate semen during sex does not mean you are normal\n\nFor the fact dat there is sperm cells In ur semen does not mean you are okay....\n\n*CAUSES OF INFERTILITY IN MALE*\n\n1. Decrease in sperm count\n\n2. Abnormal sperm\n\n3. Obstruction of reproductive ducts\n\n4. Other conditions like \n\n*cryptorchidism*(if the testis is not descending downward during child birth, such an individual will not be able to give birth unless a timely surgical operation is perform after birth)\n\nAlcoholism🍺🍻 and smoking🚬🚬\n\nTrauma\n\nMumps\n\nLong terms use of drug💊💊\n\n Disorder of d hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid and pancreas can also caused it\n\n\n*SOLUTION TO MALE INFERTILITY*\n\nGo and see your Doctor \n\nThey will direct you to the lab where your samples will be analyzed\n\nAnd the examination performed is *SEMEN ANALYSIS*\n\nThis examination is not only meant for those who is having issues, it can be done before marriage so as to know the fitness of your man.\n\nSemen analysis is use to access male infertility, to determine the fertilizing capacity of that man u are following or to access the man's spermatozoa\n\nMany factors are consider during d analysis such as *macroscopic, microscopic, and scoring of d sperm cell*\n\nNB; Semen is what you ejaculate during sex, and a semen is made up of *5% of sperm cells, suspended in fluid medium called seminal fluid which is 60% and it also contain prostatic fliud*\n\nSperm cell is produce by the testes and it is temporary stored in epididymis before ejaculation \n\n*SAMPLE COLLECTION*\n\nSemen are collected for analysis\n\n\npatients will be prepare prior to collection, \n\nHe has to abstain from sex for 3-5 days \n\nSample are collected through masturbation...no coitus interruption (withdrawal method)\n\nAnd the sample should be deliver to the lab and examine within 1hr of collection\n\nSample should not be collected into condom, universal bottle are always given in the hospital\n\n*Characteristics of a gud freshly void sperm*\n\nViscus (thick), \n\nOpaque\n\nCreamy white in colour\n\nSticky with sweat smell\n\nAnd average semen per ejaculation is 2-5 ml\n\nSo in the lab they check for all d abnormalities to some of the listed parameters\n\n*Microscopic examination*\nThey check for the motility...a good sperm cell In the semen must be actively, progressive moving forward even up to 3 hrs after ejaculation\n\nSo in the lab dey check if the sperm cell meet u with dis standard because we have various form of abnormal motility\n\nAnd another examination is to check for the morphology \nA Norma sperm cell should have an ova shape head and tail, all other forms will not be able to impregnate a woman\n\nFurther analysis can also be done like staining processing and like\n\nIf someone is said to be *Azozoospermia....it mean no sperm cell is produce in d semen*\n\n*Oligozoospermia..mean little sperm cell below normal is produce*\n\n*Normozoospermia...is d best amount of sperm cell dat can impregnate a woman, and dialect are about 20×10^6 / ml of ejaculation*\n\n\n*Polyzoospermia is producing above normal amount of sperm cell in an ejaculation, and dis mite be as a result of infection*\n\nHmmm pls am sowi I won't be able to go further I have reach my elastic limits, this are some of things I pen down at hospital. \n\nA normal person for male infertility test is someone who just impregnate a lady, others are odd unless medically proven okay\n\nIf you have been unable to get pregnant after one year of unprotected sex...Hmmm, please see medical expert\n\nAnd if u are shy of visiting d hospital, thinking dat you are normal, is beta u have a rethink and give it a try...\n\nMy people, ladies and gentlemen, go for check up to be sure of him or her before accepting dat proposal. lolz\n\nNB; * fertility rate in Nigeria have been put to be someone who is have to give birth to 6 children, so below 6 means you are not fertile.... Research carried out in 1994\n\nIn 2014, WHO has it own as 5 children per woman, before you can claim to be fertile\n\nI think on this topic, you have learnt one or two things on *health talk*\n \nMy name is Jonathan..a. k. a. Dr Jon's.. And am trying to make common sense.. Show some love to my post.. Love you all..",
