What convinced me to buy? Well, I have a Fidelity account and they allow you to hook into your COINBASE account to show the current value of your COINBASE account. The simple fact that  Fidelity recognized BITCOIN and COINBASE was enough to convince me that this cryptocurrency may have some longevity and importance in the financial world. \n\nSo Fidelity turned me onto both COINBASE and my interest in purchasing Bitcoin, Ethereum and LItecoin. I had not learned about the ALTCOINS until a few months later.\n\nHaving been through the parabolic price spike and living through the BEAR market, I wanted to post my lessons learned to date on investing with Cryptocurrencies.\n\n\n\"It's good to learn from your mistakes. It's better to learn from other people's mistakes.\" - Warren Buffett\n\n\nLesson 1. Know why you are buying crypto.\nAre you doing it to hopefully make alot of profit so you can become financially independent? -- this was my reason since I hate my current career.\n\nSome buy in because they believe in the technology. I do as well, but I will care more once I get to that financial freedom goal first.\n\n\nLesson 2. Use GDAX for all your transactions with BTC, LTC and ETH. Again refer to Lesson 3 so you do not lose all of your money.   For advanced traders - you can set a stop-loss order on GDAX.\n\n\nLesson 5. Do not listen to YouTubers regarding cryptocurrency. Don't Do it. I fell for this. They try to do Technical Analysis and make predictions on price and volume. Bullshit! Bottom line, no-one knows what cryptocurrency is going to do. There are way too many variables from Government involvement to the scammers like Bitconnect - Yep, they got $200 of mine. Haha, again. Reason not to watch Youtube channels related to Cryptocurrencies. Crypto is highly speculative. It is gambling.  \n\nDo not watch Youtube channels talking abut Crypto. Just a bad idea. Do your own research using https://coinmarketcap.com If you believe in the coin, dollar-cost average in. and set your stop losses if you like. \n\nWatching YouTubers is the best way to lose all of your money.\n\n\nLesson 6. Do not buy a heavy position in any single coin. try to spread it out. maybe 5-10% in each coin in your total portfolio. I am way top heavy into Litecoin (LTC) and this is killing my portfolio. Mainly due to me not following Lesson 5.\n\n\nLesson 7. Take profits!\nDo not worry about the tax implications, first make the profits and worry about the taxes at the end of the year. People, like me, can become paralyzed when it comes time to take profits. They are afraid of the tax implication on the trade. Well, when Bitcoin was at $20k, alot did not sell, they regret this now. If anything, sell and keep your core investment. Just sell to take the profits you made.\n\n\nLesson 8. Use the best exchanges. Don't buy a coin on a crappy exchange. Sometimes these are hard to use sites and you may find it difficult to get your coin transferred. Just a pain. Well perhaps. All I know is that I have been buying Crypto since September 2017. I have bought the majority of my ALTCOINS at the height in December and January. So, like many of us FOMOs, my portfolio is in the red by 40%.\n\nMy Cryptoportfolio consists of over 30 coins from BITCOIN to Basic Authentication Token (BAT) -- an ALTCOIN. I try not to look at my cryptocurrency portfolio since I do not like seeing the negative overall gains. Anyway, my instinct told me not to take the job since the company was evil and unethical. They are basically a cult where the owner is threatened by independent thinkers and men. Basically they are cowards. So, lesson is, trust your instinct. If it does not feel right, walk away.\n\nGive Zero Fucks. I use to fight battles that I did not need to. It was a waste of effort and the evil folks prosper and win in the end.  Lesson is, only give so many Fucks in your life, learn to play the game of life. Noone cares more about you, than You. do not trust others. Or trust them at your own peril.\n\nLesson 3. Marriage is not for men. Do not sign a death contract with the state. Just live together if you want. But family law screws the mani n the end. In hindsight, I got married for the wrong reasons. Sure marriage is for some people, but to sign a contract that can ruin your life in the event of divorce is not really wise.\n\nSo, when I jump into marriage, you should laugh and do the opposite and stay single. For dudes.\n\nLesson 4. Home ownership.\nWhen I buy a house, you should sell. My lesson is to buy a new house in a new neighborhood, hold it for two years for it to hopefully appreciate, then sell. Take the equity and repeat in another neighborhood. After doing this for 5 times or 10 years, you will be able to pay cash for a house. Do not let the wife let you get emotionally attached to a house or area. It is all BS. Financial freedom should be everyone's goal in life.\n\nLesson 5. Entrepreneurship\nAlong the lines of career choices. When I takes a risk and start businesses, you should save your cash and keep your day job. I had one successful business and one that broke even. In the end, the juice is not worth the squeeze.\n\n\nWhen I jump on the latest project, you should stay put. Yes, the grass is always greener. Sometimes it seems like a great opportunity, but if you currently have it good, stay where you are.  Also, only go to companies where you already have friends working there. They will tell you the truth and let you know if the company is toxic and corrupt, like Jovian Technologies. \n\nLesson 6. Financial Advisors.\nDon't! When I go to an Ameriprise advisor to help grow my wealth, you should run from these guys and learn to invest yourself using a simple Fidelity account with no advisor. I trusted Ameriprise to set me up and grow my portfoilio. After 4 years of no gains I did some digging and realized Ameriprise was charging me a-lot of fees every month. I was making no gains. I trusted Ameriprise but it was obscene what they did to my investments. It took me a few months, but I moved everything out of Ameriprise and moved it to Fidelity. I now buy my own dividend related stocks. \n\nLesson 7. Cars\nDo not buy new cars. Buy one at least two years old and keep it. Go to Car Max and get one. I bought new and regret it mainly due to the depreciation and the loss of fun factor after buying. Wanting is more enjoyable than having. I even bought a new Tesla Model S and a damn Deer ran into it 2 weeks later. So, if I buy a new car, you keep your car or get a two-year old car. Take the money saved and invest it into a dividend producing stock.\n\nUgh, well that is about it for now. I need to write an entire book on my life lessons learned.",
