Accurately!

I will run through an example:

Say you have bought EOS/USDT and layered in some buys as the panic price dropped:

Buy layer 1). 10 coins @ price 20

Buy layer 2). 10 coins @ price 18.53

Buy layer 3). 30 coins @ price 17.26

Buy layer 4). 100 coins @ price 17

The price starts to rise and as its bouncing up to your base you made a couple of sell orders at prices 22.6 and 23.4.

Sell layer 1). 60 coins @ price 22.6

Sell layer 2). 23 coins @ price 23.4

Now.... you think to yourself, "how in the freaken hell do I work out how many coins to sell if I want to break-even right now at the price the chart is at"? Your buy fee is 0.1% and the same for the sell fee. This is where the power of Google sheets comes in handy and i recommend it as a traders tool that you have and why using sheets is so awesome plus having an accurate formula that works it out quick and easy and the ability to handle unlimited buy and sell layers. Some people use guess work and i guess that's ok to get a ballpark figure. But it can be done so you absolutely know... so why not. At a quick glance the sheet will show you just how many coins to sell using the current price! There is another post here that goes into more detail about break-even.

So you key in the next sell quantity cell in your Goggle sheet 22.92964214

and Sell layer 3). 22.92964214 coins @ price 24

Notice the profit in the sheet now turns to $0.00% and the percent is -0.00%. That's because you have now now broken even. You have recovered the total principle that you spent on all the buy layers from 1 to 4. The principle is the total amount of FIAT you have spent to buy all the coins.

Or you might just round the amount up to 23 coins and go to the exchange and sell that amount. It wont be exactly exact but it will be very close quick and easy to do and you know it definitely covers what you outlaid (the principle). Plus some exchanges only take some orders with two decimal places. Then simply type in 23 into the next cell column in the sheet and it will continue calculating as normal.

If you're using the QFL trading method, at this point your trade is complete (for now anyway). What you have left is what Luc describes as "free coins". I've put a link to Lucs steemit blog down a little lower so you can clarify and learn about the method straight from the horses mouth.

Selling 30% in the future when you get that "Hot Potato" feeling.

Fast forward a fews days/weeks/months/years and EOS has mooned to 100-200 or 300 or maybe it's just 50, maybe it's gone to 1000 who knows. Nothing surprises me in crypto anymore. For example we'll say it reached all three prices at various different all time highs in the market. This is where Luc describes getting that "Hot Potato" feeling and selling 30% of the free coins you are holding in a wallet. The sheet calculates for you what amount of coins to sell. You might even sell them all when the market goes crazy high like when Bitcoin reached $20,000 in Dec 2017.

Sell layer 4). (in the future sell 30%) 11.12110736 coins @ price of 50

Sell layer 5). (further in the future sell another 30%) 7.78477515 coins @ price of 100

Sell layer 6). (even further in the future sell another 30%) 5.44934261 coins @ price of 200

Again as you sell these you might round down and or up for 11, 8 and 6 coins perhaps.

You might wander why sell the coins instead just leave them to grow? Well, with the nature of crypto and it being so volatile meaning it can go up and down dramatically by large percentages in a relatively short period of time. It makes sense to sell when you feel the coin has gone pretty high in price and might be due to turn and drop down again. The consolation prize is that you can invest that money back into another trade and start all over again or go and spend some money on something.

When you have the sheet open and doing this it all happens quickly though a trade may take days weeks months and or even years, so you can go back and open the sheet and you will not have forgotten what you did. Good financial management!

When you open the sheet there is also some columns that you can open if you want to see the buy sell fees and some other details to the right i have set them to be out of site and simple by hiding those columns. By all means open those columns up (I usually do) to look at the buy fee details etc.

A trick to copy and pasting numbers in google sheets which you will find you need to do quite often when using these sheets. Is to use the paste special so that when you copy & paste the numbers from one cell to another it does not paste the formula and bugger up your sheet. So to copy a cell copy as normal (Command C) and but you go to the menu and special paste it. So it pastes the values only not the formula! On mac I use Shift Command V. I'm not sure of windows but just have a look at the menu in Google sheets. Here is a screen shot of the menu for special paste. I often copy & paste special the break-even amount into the next sell layer.

And that's about it. titleUnlimited Crypto Buy & Sell Layers Break-even Google Sheet
body

How to know how many crypto coins to sell right now so you break-even, in a simple easy to use Google sheet!

Here is the Google sheet straight up so you can make a copy and use yourself.

All the information and videos you need to learn about the QFL trading method is here:

QuickFingersLuc

I did a post about the formula i used to work out what break-even point is in an advanced crypto trading spreadsheet designed specifically for the trading strategy and methodology of QFL because i noticed ways around that people were doing it incorrect! Where you buy a specific coin at various prices and various amounts, during a panic unfolding in the market. Normally increasing the buy amount as the price drops lower under a base in a safe cycle.

There is an awful lot in the sheet which is great for those that like to see what is happening with the math for every aspect of the trade. Individual layered buy fees, sell fees, profit & lose, allocation of funds down layers, amounts bought, sold, free coins, how much to sell to break-even "now" etc and many many other variables. But it could be a bit tricky to use for a newbie. So i did a challenge for myself to build a new sheet and break it down to as elegant and simple as i could get it.

The main reason for the detailed advanced sheet was also a stepping stone for me to learn all about how crypto is calculated and the math. I like to dig deep into details of how things work and crypto was all new to me.

So whats this simple sheet for? All you have to do is enter the buy, sell and quantities. You might ask why do this when there are other sheets out there already doing this? I could not find a sheet out there that calculates the amount of coins you need to sell to break-even correctly. So i built my break-even formula in.

For example. Say you have bought EOS/USDT and layered down some buys as such:

Buy layer 1). 1000 coins @ price 20

Buy layer 2). 1000 coins @ price 18.53

Buy layer 3). 3000 coins @ price 17.26

Buy layer 4). 10000 coins @ price 17

The price starts to rise and as its bouncing you make a couple of sell orders at 22.6 and 23.4.

Sell layer 1). 60 coins @ price 22.6

Sell layer 2). 23 coins @ price 23.4

Now.... how in the freaken hell do you work out how many coins to sell if you want to break-even right now? Your buy fee is 0.1% and the same for the sell fee. This is where the power of Google sheets comes in and why using sheets is so awesome. At a quick glance the sheet will show you just how many coins to sell based on what the current price is!

So you key in the next sell quantity cell in your Goggle sheet 15.41462713.

Sell layer 3). 15.41462713 coins @ price 24

Or you might just round it up to 16 and go to the exchange and sell that amount.

Fast forward a fews weeks/months/years and EOS has mooned to 100-200 or 300 or maybe it's just 50, maybe it's gone to 1000 who knows. Nothing surprises me in crypto anymore. For examples sack we'll say it reached all three prices at various different all time highs in the market. This is where according to Lucs methodology when you get that "Hot Potato" feeling you sell 30% of the free coins you are holding in a wallet. The sheet calculates for you what amount of coins to sell.

Sell layer 4). (in the future sell 30%) 10.67561186 coins @ price of 50

Sell layer 5). (further in the future sell 30%) 7.47292830 coins @ price of 100

Sell layer 6). (even further in the future sell 30%) 2.24 coins @ price of 200

The market does goes in cycles. The consolation is that you can invest that money back into another trade and start all over again or go buy an island and enjoy some time on the beach in the sun.

When you have the sheet open and doing this it all happens quickly though a trade may take days weeks months and or even years, so you can go back and open the sheet and you will not have forgotten what you did. Good financial management! So to grab your copy of the sheet here is the link:

When you open the sheet there is also some columns that you can open if you want to see the buy sell fees and some other details to the right i have set them to be out of site and simple by hiding those columns.

Some helpful links.

If you're thinking of signing up to any exchanges you may find my below affiliate links beneficial for you:

An Australian crypto exchange. Independent Reserve

A UI trading platform. Coinigy

A crypto game. Fishbank

A popular trading exchange. Binance

Popular exchange for small account building. Cryptobia

Popular Aussie exchange for mums and dads easy crypto trading. Coinspot

Popular exchange for small account building trading. HitBTC

VPN Virtual Private Network to protect you privacy when trading. NordVPN

Exchange with a lot of USDT trading pairs. Gate

Another exchange. AltCoin

Another exchange. BitMEX

Another exchange. Quadrigacx

Trading Bot does trades for you.

I also recommend some up and coming trading platforms to keep an eye on. titleCryptocurrency Break-even Point Google Sheet Formula for Dummies
body

I'm dumb so this is the simple easy Google sheet and formula explained for anyone feeling a little lost about how to calculate break-even point in your crypto trading.

Here's the formula if you're in a hurry and can't be bothered reading. This world is full of to much information. Dump this on a Google sheet cell and it's good to go. I don't use excel. Maybe you can adapt it and post some excel formulas in the comments section below to help people!?

What Google sheet cell will tell you how many coins to sell at the exchange (exactly) to break-even.

=SUM(1/(1-.1%)*((100*20)+(100*20)*.1%)/30)

The same formula as above explaining what the numbers represent.

=SUM(1/(1-sell_percent_fee)*((qty*price)+(qty*price)*buy_percent_fee)/current_price)

... and here in use in an actual example Google sheet screenshot.

Here is the link to the Google sheet to make a copy with and learn the formulas and adapt it to your own sheets:

Basic steps:

[Click link to open Google Sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zuZE4E4Ze8-qu5p7wpIRL5r7lDvccQMUNmP3hPrRjok/edit?usp=sharing)

In the Google Sheet goto top menu area and in File > Make a copy....

You should now have your own copy of these break-even examples to learn from.

It took me a long time to work this out so I hope you enjoy it. I done my head in a number of times and spent many late nights up working on this. I'm not that gifted as math but once i worked it all out i wanted to make a detailed post and share it for other.

I searched a lot of places and couldn't find any accurate answers anywhere. Something wasn't right about the formulas I was trying... they were not returning to zero! Most places around, the way people are calculating the crypto trade break-even point is close but inaccurate if you want it to be absolutely right and to break-even to exactly zero not a cent more, not a penny less. If you have a number of different buys it gets even more difficult to work out and track. For smaller trades it makes little difference, only a few cents in the dollar and people don't worry about it. It's not going to break the bank balance. But for larger trades it can be out by hundreds of dollars. If you want it to be right so that break even is ZERO every time this is the formula to get your head around!

So this is it! Just dump this on your cell.

Example 1).

=SUM(1/(1-G2)*((C2*D2)+(C2*D2)*E2)/F2)

Where G2 is the sell fee percentage charged by the exchange normally about .1%. C2 is the quantity of coins you bought, D2 the buy price, E2 the sell fee percentage charged at the exchange say .1% again. And F2 is the price at which the coin has reached on the chart when you decide you want to sell to get back the total amount of money you have put in the trade plus fees. This is called break-even.

If you bought a quantity of 100 EOS/USDT coins at $20 and the coins price has gone to $30 how many coins do you sell to break even? This is the tricky question! If you put this formula on a cell in a Google sheet it will tell you the answer.

=SUM(1/(1-.1%)*((100*20)+(100*20)*.1%)/30)

=SUM(1/(1-sell_percent_fee)*((qty*price)+(qty*price)*buy_percent_fee)/current_price)

The answer should be 66.80013347. You might decide to just round it up in your head quickly to 67 and sell that many at the exchange. Binance exchange expect only two decimal places to sell coins amounts so you would round up to say 67 or 66.81. When you go to the exchange and sell this amount of coins you will not lose any money and you will not make any money you will be at true break even (zero) if you can put exactly 66.80013347 as seen in this particular example.

Example 2).

Another simple way to reach ("close to") break even point is to add up the total amount you spent on your trade(s). Still using the above example I would have spent 100 EOS @ 20c = a total of $2000. Then just divide $2000/coin_current price. 2000/30= 66.67. So you sell 66.67 coins of EOS.

See how the answer is a little less then the first example of 66.80013347 compared to 66.67 that's because the first example covers the buy fee and the sell fee and the formula of which it is calculated. OK, so you could add a buy and a sell fee and get "closer" but it still won't be exact as in the first example.

Example 3).

This is how most people do it, they will take the total spent. =SUM(2000+(2000*.1%))/30 = 66.73

Example 4).

Some might go as far as adding a sell fee and generally the way it's calculate it will be so close to correct that it will actually round to the right dollar amount for small transactions. I tested all four different ways as described here in this post and i have provided the sheet for you to make a copy. On a hypothetical transaction of one million the results of the second example is out by -$2,000. So using that way when you think you have broken even would be down -$20,000.

I put a large amount in here because there is whales out there doing big trades and they might want to know.

Example $0.00 (correct)

Example -$2,000.00

Example -$1,001.00

Example -$1.00

So there you have it.

To wind up the quickest way if you're in a hurry is to simply add up the total you have spent and add the fee and add the same fee amount again. So if you work out your fee is $20 double it to $40 and add that to your total spend and divide that by the coins current price to get the amount of coins to sell. It will only be out -$0.10c in the dollar in a trade up to $100,000 and that is nothing worth worrying about plus most common trades will be much less than this.

The reason i went into so much detail to do this was because i was making a Google sheet and wanting to track a QFL "Panic trade" 1 - 8 layered buys and 1 - 4 layered sells (to break-even), of various amounts, as the price was dropping and trying to determine what amount of coins to sell at the current price so that i was break-even and leave nothing but free coins in an offline wallet. If you are familiar with the QFL methodology i wanted to track "Hot potatoes" where you sell 30% at an all time high selling some of the FREE coins that use saved in a cold storage wallet after you had broke even!

My sheet kept not exactly equalling 0% or $0.00 dollars and each layer wasn't right. And because i intended to sell little bits as the price was rising (layering out with sells as the price is rises back to base!). It got all the more difficult to know. So each sell layer would calculate if you wanted to sell anything from 0-100% (of the total spent & fees). If you selected 50% it should recover half of the total money i spent in the trade. Then 80% would be 80% of the 50% remaining principle (total money spent). That's a post for you to search out for and make a free copy of that sheet. I find it an educational and handy tool, i use it daily. Even if i do say so myself. I put months into building it and improving it.

The sheet become multifunctional and can be used for any trade in crypto from as little as one $5 trade to up to eight buy layers and eight sell layers. The first four of the sell layers works specifically on getting the total principle invested back covering all fees going in and out. As this is the risk money you have put in the trade. That break-even money that you recover from the trade can be used in other QFL panic and so the process repeats.

Is there something I've missed? Or can improve on and or you know a better way to do this then I look forward to reading your comments of various ways to break even. I'm interested to know of any mistakes i may have made and or way that you calculate break-even.

Crypto break-even formula for a Google sheet cell.

Jaffasoft ~ =SUM(1/(1-sell_percent_fee)*((qty*price)+(qty*price)*buy_percent_fee)/current_price)

title
bodySomething to consider when I recently saw the future of trading directly from Hard Wallets on decentralized exchanges. It is some time off until Tezor will be used on some, but I like the Tezor concept the most. These two popular ones are a bit like Holden or Ford. But Ledger can be used now in places like this buy DIA, MKR. https://app.paradex.io/ I may buy both and have the best of both worlds :)!
