| body | *Can I be honest with you?* I've been thinking about this a lot lately: what makes a good teacher/mentor/boss/coach/partner is that they push you further than you think you can go, but to a place where they already know you can go. Sometimes they will underestimate you, and it’s your job to prove them wrong. Sometimes they will ask too much, and it’s their job to recognize that and apologize. But ideally, they know who you are, where you are, what you’re capable of, and when you’re capable of it. They know why it’s important that you do the thing, and how you're going to do the thing, even if they don’t share that information with you. *Why honesty isn't always the best policy?* Honest people don't think about honesty, because it naturally is them. ... “To be honest” means “ I normally lie, but in this moment I'm going to tell the truth”. And what that should say to you is “question everything they say whenever the don't say to be honest.” Whether you’re getting it off your chest, venting, expressing yourself, airing your feelings or “just being honest," the truth about honesty is that honesty is not always the best policy. *What’s more, continuing on the path of full disclosure can actually put a permanent closure on your relationships!* The reality is we don’t need knives or guns to mortally wound those closest to us. Words cut like knives and it’s easy to bury your relationship with the verbal cuts of a “truthful” tongue. The truth is honesty is often a veiled form of self-indulgence. *What do I mean by self-indulgence?* In a nutshell, when feelings build up, it’s frustrating to “sit” on them. And, of course, it feels damn good to release them. That feel good sensation is a form of gratification. When we dump emotional turds on others, we are flushing our relationships down the toilet. It’s a sad fact that our education at home and in school doesn’t include teaching us how to manage our angry feelings. Since intimate relationships trigger negative feelings, this means most of us are mistreating the people we love most by lashing out and even verbally killing those we supposedly love in various obvious and symbolic ways.! [Never Let Success Go to Your Head.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXLB4imKcrDr1wwTntYVrBc2ggr2i7GLniFUj6jN5k9rt/Never%20Let%20Success%20Go%20to%20Your%20Head.jpg) *While we may feel temporarily relieved when we shoot off rounds of honesty, we pay a terrible price for this temporary satisfaction, as we harm our relationships and our own self-esteem.* The good news is you can make the decision to change the way you handle your angry feelings; to consider what you say before you speak, to ask yourself how the other person will feel before you say or do x, y or z. *To consider whether what you intend to say or do will be helpful and constructive to the other person and your relationship or not.* |

| body | 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗖? 🤷♂ Every year, many parents and students are asking for the same advice : which route to take = JC or Poly or...? It has become so competitive nowadays that some teachers advise students not to take the JC route if they have a score that’s higher than 14 for their L1R5. (First language + five relevant subjects) 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦: What is your passion and talents? . With the diploma, you can gain direct entry into the second year of NUS or NTU. While it is true that you may take 1 year extra, you can skip the 1st year in Uni, while your peers from A levels have to do their 1st year = same same! I have many concerns from parents when their children would rather choose the poly route than the JC route. Here’s my 2 cents worth takeaway on two of parents’ biggest worries. 1. University entry 👩🎓 In 2018, about 16 per cent and 37 per cent of the student intake at NUS and NTU respectively are polytechnic graduates, according to a CNA report. Some of the most brilliant students at NUS are polytechnic graduates, as they have real-life experience and diligence. In addition, they are street-smart. They know how to take risk and try new things and be more practical in life.... 2. But but… what about my face? 🤦♀ Your face should NEVER be a concern in your child’s education. How much is it worth? It that more important than your child's future? a) Perhaps due to the higher cut-off points during our generation and the fact that many do not pursue university education after their diploma then, many seem to see poly diplomas to be inferior. That is not true! Many very successful men and women had taken the Non-JC route and they are doing better than their peers from JC. There are many poly courses that require good results these days. It’s not as easy as you think it is to get into a poly course these days. For example, my nephew needs to get 12 points in order to get into business course in poly. Molecular Biotechnology at Nanyang Poly, you need 11 points for your ELR2B2 (aggregate score of English Language, two Relevant subjects and two other Best subjects.) And more importantly, while we are a paper chase society, and I do not want to diminish the importance of a degree, how we fare in life really depends on our drive, grit and determination. The degree, in the near future, no longer holds a guaranteed employ-ability assurance. A degree no doubt can give one a head start over others in this superficial society. However, your true abilities will shine through eventually. One good example: BreadTalk IHQ group founder George Quek, who also runs Din Tai Fung Singapore, pursued an arts education in Taiwan and see how much more successful than other university graduates. Also, this is only one of the many measures of success. People like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zukerberg etc are all high school dropouts! b) But… what would the relatives say… 👨👨👧👧 If you are concerned about the relatives, message me. I can find a few comebacks for you and I am good at them. Trust me. 😉 I did not have a degree... I had made my millions in the early 20s, while some of my peers are still doing their degree... More importantly, your child’s interest should be more important vs YOUR FACE. 𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆. For the child, you may not know what your interest is now. It’s okay. Many adults don’t even at their grand, old age. Just trial and error. In our society, there’s always the fear of failure. Failure only makes us stronger and clearer in our paths. Don’t fear failure. Parents: your child is 16, almost an adult. Listen to them. Give them advice when needed, but your advice should be practical with their best interests. Your own ego should not play a part. Let me know your thoughts and share if you find this useful! |

| body | 5 Great Ways To Enrich Your Children’s Moral Conscience Today Children are the living embodiment of curiosity. They learn lots of things in life, gifted naturally with intuition, and open to everything they find. Everything seems to be interesting to them. That’s why they want to know about many things. It’s indeed a sign of good development. Parents need to help children develop their conscience, which will be a great means of getting spiritual experiences. Through these, they’ll learn about self-esteem and moral values. All parents want their children to have a life guided by good values. As parents, what can you do to help them? Here are 5 approaches you can do to enrich your child’s conscience everyday: 1. Provide good examples. What you say and do every day reflect what you think about the world around you. If you say good stuff, your children will do the same and see the world in a positive light. Children are great imitators. As they grow, their power to grasp abstract concepts also grows. As such, their understanding of moral value increases as well. They become keen observes and do exactly what their parents do. It is essential for you to say and do nice things in all circumstances - be kind, be grateful, appreciate everything, do the right thing even in a difficult situation. Be alert in every act of your behaviour while maintaining social and personal relationships. 2. Listen when your children talk. Listen respectfully to your child’s ideas and wherever required correct them. Sometimes your children ask questions that sound silly to adults, like “Mom, where does the sun sleep when the night comes?” Listen to them and answer sincerely and truthfully, “The sun does not sleep. It shines in other places in the world.” By listening, children will feel that they get respected from their parents. This will also boost their self-confidence. 3. Show happiness. Reflect and share all the happiness and positive energy and thoughts with the children. If you’re happy, they’re happy too. By doing this, the children will learn to have a positive attitude and enjoy life. 4. Introduce them to nature. Explain that all things in the world are connected to each other and that there’s a reason for it. For example, water is needed to irrigate plants and plants are a food source for other living creatures. Take them out into the garden or give them the responsibility of caring for a plant. It is fun and a great learning experience for your child. 5. Be flexible with your rules. Children need structure and rules. However, as they grow, allow them to play a role in setting the rules. There will be time when they can decide what they want to do. By being flexible with your rules, children will stay cheerful and expressive. The Secrets of Happy Families discusses a University of California study, which identified the benefits of letting children plan their own schedules and set their own goals. These children were more likely to become disciplined and focused, and to make wiser decisions in the future. The researchers also found that it’s helpful for parents to let their children choose their own punishments. Children who do so break the rules less frequently. These 5 tips are actually straightforward and easy to carry out everyday. Again, remember that children are good imitators. Once you do or say something bad, there’s a great chance that they will do or say the same. All of our children are great! Let’s teach them as such! |

| body | It is important to score an 'A'. Or is it? This happens at a cafe I visit often for lunch and dinner. Some of the staff are elderly. When the crowd starts to build up, there are some who will argue with these elderly staff who have hearing challenges, asking why they can't get their instructions right the first time. Some of these customers bring in food from the outside. Like pork (because it's a halal cafe). An elderly man who is a staff responsible for clearing the plates will sternly remind them to bring their food to another place. Most keep their food. Then, secretly take a bite or two when the elderly man is not watching. The stubborn ones will keep eating even when he reminds them sternly several times that this is a halal cafe. One customer uses her child's hunger as an excuse to bring food from the outside and eat. One wonders what values the parent is teaching the child. We will all grow old, frail, hard of hearing and losing our sight. Reading a page may even be a painful experience. How we treat the elderly, less fortunate, and physically-challenged is how we want others to treat us when we are old. Or when our peers are not doing things as fast as us. For our adult or elderly peers, we treat them like factory machines, expecting the fastest, cheapest and best outputs from them. Not a word of thanks for these peers of ours even when they are the fastest, cheapest and the best. Only finger-pointing when things go wrong. Empathy is not only about acknowledging emotions and paraphrasing. It is also understanding what others are seeing from their lenses. Similarly, children all learn at different pace and ability levels. It is important to score an 'A'. IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO GIVE THEM TIME AND SPACE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING. These conditions will guarantee to boost your child's understanding. It's a matter of time. The joke is we are willing to give our children time and space to understand. Math is like empathy. "body": "It is important to score an 'A'. Or is it?\n\nThis happens at a cafe I visit often for lunch and dinner. Some of the staff are elderly. When the crowd starts to build up, there are some who will argue with these elderly staff who have hearing challenges, asking why they can't get their instructions right the first time.\n\n\n\n\n\nSome of these customers bring in food from the outside. Like pork (because it's a halal cafe). An elderly man who is a staff responsible for clearing the plates will sternly remind them to bring their food to another place.\n\nMost keep their food. Then, secretly take a bite or two when the elderly man is not watching. The stubborn ones will keep eating even when he reminds them sternly several times that this is a halal cafe.\n\nOne customer uses her child's hunger as an excuse to bring food from the outside and eat. One wonders what values the parent is teaching the child.\n\n\n\n\nWe will all grow old, frail, hard of hearing and losing our sight. Reading a page may even be a painful experience.\n\nHow we treat the elderly, less fortunate, and physically-challenged is how we want others to treat us when we are old. Or when our peers are not doing things as fast as us.\n\nFor our adult or elderly peers, we treat them like factory machines, expecting the fastest, cheapest and best outputs from them.\n\n\n\nNot a word of thanks for these peers of ours even when they are the fastest, cheapest and the best. Only finger-pointing when things go wrong.\n\nEmpathy is not only about acknowledging emotions and paraphrasing.\n\nIt is also understanding what others are seeing from their lenses.\n\nSimilarly, children all learn at different pace and ability levels.\n\nIt is important to score an 'A'.\n\n\n\n\nIT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO GIVE THEM TIME AND SPACE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING. These conditions will guarantee to boost your child's understanding. It's a matter of time.\n\nThe joke is we are willing to give our children time and space to understand.\n\nMath is like empathy. | body | You were born poor, but if you die poor you have yourself to blame. Here are 6 habits that could easily draw your route-map to a life of perpetual poverty 💼💼💼💼💼💼 **1 Focus only on Linear income instead of Multiple Sources of Passive Income Most people focus on linear income in the name of salary, allowances, bonuses and one-off payments. Wise men on the other hand focus on passive income in the name of royalties, interest rates, value addition and profit. Relying on linear income is similar to using buckets to fetch water from the river. With passive income, on the other hand is similar to building a pipeline. It may require a lot of work at the beginning but with time, you’ll no longer have to go to the river to get water . **2 You are waiting to start your Journey of Success!!!! Everyone wants to succeed but very few people are willing to step into the cold waters. It's COLD!!! No marathon race has ever been won (or even finished) by someone who never left the starting line. Too many people are so fearful of even stepping out! **3 Spending more when you earn more!!!! To stay out of bad debt, you will either need to find a way to earn more or spend less. Consistently raising your expenditure is a good way to accumulate debt and to remain stuck in the echelons of poverty. The first and best option is to find more ways to earn more and decrease your expenditure or keep it constantly low. **4 You complain instead of committing. Stop complaining and making lame excuses. Take responsibility for your non-productive habits and focus on changing them – then JUST FREAKING do it! **5 You live only for today You are hoping tomorrow will care about its worries. It will NEVER! You need to deal with it and plan your SUCCESS! Time perspective is basically how far you project into the future when you make a decision today. An example of a long-term perspective is when a wise family man buys land or insurance for their child, even though he or she will not need it for the next eighteen years. This is a long-term approach that involves sacrificing in the short term to assure better outcomes in the long-term. **6 You just don’t get it! You have knowledge but you don't want to think too hard how to use it. You’re educated but you've never internalized what your teachers told you. You're still stuck at the starting line all along because you don't want to start small and grow bit by bit from there. The problem is that you keep learning but you don’t get it. You need to Learn by Doing! Just take ACTIONS and lots it it!!! 💼💼💼💼💼💼 |

| body | "Always start with thanksgiving; be thankful for what you already have and see the miracles that come from this one simple act." — Jim Rohn Make gratitude your No. 1 focus. Put your family first, be kind to others and relish everything that brings you joy—even the small stuff! ** Family First When you look back on your life, you’ll remember your relationships more than anything else. Make a list of the people and relationships that you need to work toward improving. Carve out time for them. Read: The 9 People You Need to Be Successful ** Give forward. Gratitude isn’t just a thank-you card. It’s paying forward the gifts you’ve been given. Write down your top three strengths and reflect on how you could use those to help others. Read: Why Gratitude Makes You a Better Leader ** Relish everything. The point of self-reflection is to reassess what really matters in your life. As you’re journaling, draw a little star next to each memory that brought you joy. Revisit these regularly. Read: Would Today Be a Good Day to Die? ** Find feedback. We don’t always see ourselves as clearly as we could. This week, reach out to your five closest people and ask where they see opportunities for growth in your life. Read: How Would Your Friends Rate You? **Slow down. Although there are numerous benefits to a thank-you note, focus on the act of pausing to sit down with a pen and paper. Take a moment to appreciate this gift of a brief pause in a busy world. Read: The Health Benefits of Gratitude |

| body | A young lady sat in a bus. At the next stop a loud and grumpy old lady came and sat by her. She squeezed into the seat and bumped her with her numerous bags. The person sitting on the other side of the young lady got upset, asked her why she did not speak up and say something. The young lady responded with a smile: "It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is so short. I get off at the next stop." This response deserves to be written in golden letters: "It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short" If each one of us realized that our time here is so short; that to darken it with quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, discontentment and a fault finding attitude would be a waste of time and energy. Did someone break your heart? Be calm, the journey is so short. Did someone betray, bully, cheat or humiliate you? Be calm, forgive, the journey is so short. Whatever troubles anyone brings us, let us remember that our journey together is so short. No one knows the duration of this journey. No one knows when their stop will come. Our journey together is so short. Let us cherish friends and family. Let us be respectful, kind and forgiving to each other. Let us be filled with gratitude and gladness. If I have ever hurt you, I ask for your forgiveness. If you have ever hurt me, you already have my forgiveness. After all, Our Journey Together is so Short! God Bless us always |

| body | Many of us wonder: What does it take to become successful in life? Is there a formula that the successful people know and some don't? Is there something that successful people do in order to be the people that they are? ...or does it all simply "Luck"? Here’s the good news: It really is only 10% inspiration. As for the other 90% ‘perspiration’? That’s also true. Successful people are always spending the bulk of their time investing in themselves, learning and re-learning. While many vegetate themselves infront of televisions, laptops, ipads etc, they take the time to attend programs that will change their lifes forever! By learning and improving themselves, they push the bar for 90% higher and higher, until they go beyond what ‘average’ people achieve. There’s really no secret to success – just how much effort you are willing to put in to achieve your goals and dreams. Of course, blind effort is wasted effort, so here’s the 3 keys to investing in yourself to guide your way… Education Most people stop learning once they’ve completed school. Don’t be one of them. Don’t stagnate after graduation. Spend at least 30 minutes every day by learning something – whether it’s through books, videos or podcasts. You can also attend many of the events out there. On average, there are 30 events daily in every city, some paid and some are free. Commit yourself to going for at least one event a week. Never stop learning. If done consistently, that’s 180+ hours of learning clocked in in just 1 year. That’s the equivalent of an extra 4 hours of education, every single week. If you can learn an average of 1 hour a day, you will be one of the top 3%. Imagine the amount of progress you will make by investing such a small amount of effort every day. It’s compound interest working its magic, silently. Make education a priority and you’ll be amazed at how far you can actually go. Health and Wellness Take care of yourself and your body. But if your health crashes, everything else will fall with it. The point is to get started and keep up that momentum no matter how little you begin with. Start today! It’s easy to take this one for granted when you have it amidst all the hectic schedules of life and work. You may never get your previous productivity levels once it’s gone. Worst still – you may never be able to get anything done ever again. While this is an extreme example, it’s the absolute truth. If you want to enjoy the fruits of your efforts in your later years, then take care of yourself now. In fact, there should not be any point in your life where your ambition precedes your health, because those 2 should go hand-in-hand. So set aside those 30 minutes a day for just you. Walk, exercise and be active. Model After A Master Alongside educating yourself and taking good care of your health, you need to model after a master. What does that mean? Find the person who is your role model for success and learn from him. His mindset, his actions, and how he got there. Someone who can guide you through the path, as well as helping you avoid the pitfalls throughout your journey. This would tremendously shave off countless of hours and save you time learning from someone who has actually done it. So start educating yourself daily. Get healthy. And find a master to model after. When you invest in yourself and commit to these 3 areas, you will transcend to your success even faster than you ever thought possible. |

| body | Everybody likes setting goals, and as an adult learner you won’t get far without a well-laid out plan. You have an idea of how much you wish to have achieved in the next five years or so. Unfortunately, there is a wide difference between intention and action. If you do not change your habits, you might not achieve the great career you are looking forward to. After you decide the habits you need to acquire and those that you should change, the next challenge is to maintain them. Here are some tips to help you maintain your wining habits. 1. Self control Although developing self control can be challenging at times, it is one of the best qualities one can ever possess. Avoid surrounding yourself with the things you are trying to avoid. For instance, if you have decided to sacrifice the time you spend watching TV so that you can study, avoid staying in the room where you keep the television. 2. Maintain motivation Without motivation, you may not achieve much. The motivation you have to start a new behavior such as take classes might light the spark, but it might not maintain the fire. Look for a long-term motivation factor like getting a raise at work, making your family proud or achieving your goals. Next, find short-term motivation factors like getting good grades and completing the course within the set period. 3. Create daily habits New habits are likely to stick if you weave them into your daily activities. If you get to a point where you don’t have to think too hard about a habit, it becomes second to nature. Try not to change a lot of habits all at once as it might discourage you along the way. It will also seem like you are climbing a steep mountain. Therefore, blend your study time into your routine gradually. |

"body": "\n \nEverybody likes setting goals, and as an adult learner you won’t get far without a well-laid out plan. \n\nYou have an idea of how much you wish to have achieved in the next five years or so. Unfortunately, there is a wide difference between intention and action. If you do not change your habits, you might not achieve the great career you are looking forward to. After you decide the habits you need to acquire and those that you should change, the next challenge is to maintain them. Here are some tips to help you maintain your wining habits. \n\n\n \n1. Self control\nAlthough developing self control can be challenging at times, it is one of the best qualities one can ever possess. Avoid surrounding yourself with the things you are trying to avoid. For instance, if you have decided to sacrifice the time you spend watching TV so that you can study, avoid staying in the room where you keep the television. \n \n2. Maintain motivation\nWithout motivation, you may not achieve much. The motivation you have to start a new behavior such as take classes might light the spark, but it might not maintain the fire. Look for a long-term motivation factor like getting a raise at work, making your family proud or achieving your goals. Next, find short-term motivation factors like getting good grades and completing the course within the set period. \n\n\n \n\n\n3. Create daily habits\n\nNew habits are likely to stick if you weave them into your daily activities. If you get to a point where you don’t have to think too hard about a habit, it becomes second to nature. Try not to change a lot of habits all at once as it might discourage you along the way. It will also seem like you are climbing a steep mountain. Therefore, blend your study time into your routine gradually.\n\n\n",
