      "body": "<html>\n<p>For a long time, I believed mainstream narratives about the three topics mentioned in the title: economics, government, and society in general. As I grew older, I learned the truth about all. This is what led me to become an activist for exposing the lies told about them, becoming a Real Progressive, and joining this platform.</p>\n<p>As a young black teenager, I was what you would call a moderate Republican in the 90s. I believed in small government to an extent, with some social programs that would help people 'pull themselves up by the bootstraps'. As I grew older, I found out that those bootstraps don't actually exist. The rhetoric vomited by the GOP during the early 2000's forced me to abandon them, with me becoming an independent. After a few years of being an independent, I joined the Democratic party a year before the 2008 election. I voted for Obama twice (something I would later regret, but not for the reasons most would say), but during his second term in office, I noticed something: things he promised weren't happening. I started to become a little cynical and even chased Illuminati conspiracies for a few months (I do believe a global cabal is behind a bunch of horrible things but trying to figure out who they are wastes time that can be used to fight them and other plutocrats/neoliberals/corporatists/globalists).&nbsp;</p>\n<p>This led to me questioning everything I was taught about politics, economics, and other issues. After a while, I understood that what they taught us we a <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/economic-issues/2016-08-20-the-american-dream-the-lie-that-shackles-us\">method of control,</a> not unlike the Matrix in the aptly named movies. I started to read about heterodox economics (specifically MMT). I started to understand the weaknesses of capitalism. So once the 2016 election was a year away, I decided to support Bernie Sanders. I felt he was the closest thing to my beliefs in a candidate. Of course, the rug was pulled out from under him by the DNC. I could not force myself to support <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/national-issues/2016-08-20-why-the-2016-election-season-is-so-important\">Hillary</a> knowing how she was a corporate lapdog and closet racist <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/social-issues/2016-08-13-how-clinton-and-gop-leaders-are-using-the-trump-campaign-to-turn-america-into-a-one-party-neoliberal-disaster\">while creating the scenario that led to the election of Trump</a>. I threw my support behind Jill Stein to encourage others to throw off the shackles of the two-party system. While I did not get the candidate in office I supported, I never regretted my decision.</p>\n<p>While I was learning about economics and Bernie, I came across a fledgling group that was forming on Facebook. While I had no experience in activism, I wanted to help the best I could. My mentor, Steven Grumbine, helped me to synthesize all of the new beliefs and facts that I had learned into one unifying philosophy, progressivism. While there were many rocks in the road, he and many other members of the team (including I) came together to advance the group that had become known as Real Progressives. We grew from a page on Facebook with three thousand likes to one with 118 thousand likes. We are working as hard as we can to spread the truth using our website <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com\">RealProgressivesUSA.com</a>, <a href=\"http://www.facebook.com/realprogressive\">Facebook</a>, <a href=\"http://www.twitter.com/realprogressus\">Twitter</a>, and word of mouth. This was working well on Facebook for a while but....</p>\n<p>If anyone has been on Facebook recently, you know they make almost daily changes that affect how people consume content. Every time they do so, they seem to affect how many people that Real Progressives can reach. At first, we thought it was by accident but then, many of our members are getting sharing bans. Every time we try to modify our actions to avoid the punitive actions of Facebook, another roadblock is being thrown up. <a href=\"https://www.johnlaurits.com/2017/fake-news-corporate-media-facebook-censorship/\">It's obvious that Facebook is censoring content for its own purposes (while social media sounds innovative, eventually, every big corporation become part of the establishment)</a>. This is what had led me to try alternate forms of social media, including my entrance to this platform.       "body": "<html>\n<p>For a long time, I believed mainstream narratives about the three topics mentioned in the title: economics, government, and society in general. As I grew older, I learned the truth about all. This is what led me to become an activist for exposing the lies told about them, becoming a Real Progressive, and joining this platform.</p>\n<p>As a young black teenager, I was what you would call a moderate Republican in the 90s. I believed in small government to an extent, with some social programs that would help people 'pull themselves up by the bootstraps'. As I grew older, I found out that those bootstraps don't actually exist. The rhetoric vomited by the GOP during the early 2000's forced me to abandon them, with me becoming an independent. After a few years of being an independent, I joined the Democratic party a year before the 2008 election. I voted for Obama twice (something I would later regret, but not for the reasons most would say), but during his second term in office, I noticed something: things he promised weren't happening. I started to become a little cynical and even chased Illuminati conspiracies for a few months (I do believe a global cabal is behind a bunch of horrible things but trying to figure out who they are wastes time that can be used to fight them and other plutocrats/neoliberals/corporatists/globalists).&nbsp;</p>\n<p>This led to me questioning everything I was taught about politics, economics, and other issues. After a while, I understood that what they taught us we a <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/economic-issues/2016-08-20-the-american-dream-the-lie-that-shackles-us\">method of control,</a> not unlike the Matrix in the aptly named movies. I started to read about heterodox economics (specifically MMT). I started to understand the weaknesses of capitalism. So once the 2016 election was a year away, I decided to support Bernie Sanders. I felt he was the closest thing to my beliefs in a candidate. Of course, the rug was pulled out from under him by the DNC. I could not force myself to support <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/national-issues/2016-08-20-why-the-2016-election-season-is-so-important\">Hillary</a> knowing how she was a corporate lapdog and closet racist <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com/news/social-issues/2016-08-13-how-clinton-and-gop-leaders-are-using-the-trump-campaign-to-turn-america-into-a-one-party-neoliberal-disaster\">while creating the scenario that led to the election of Trump</a>. I threw my support behind Jill Stein to encourage others to throw off the shackles of the two-party system. While I did not get the candidate in office I supported, I never regretted my decision.</p>\n<p>While I was learning about economics and Bernie, I came across a fledgling group that was forming on Facebook. While I had no experience in activism, I wanted to help the best I could. My mentor, Steven Grumbine, helped me to synthesize all of the new beliefs and facts that I had learned into one unifying philosophy, progressivism. While there were many rocks in the road, he and many other members of the team (including I) came together to advance the group that had become known as Real Progressives. We grew from a page on Facebook with three thousand likes to one with 118 thousand likes. We are working as hard as we can to spread the truth using our website <a href=\"http://www.realprogressivesusa.com\">RealProgressivesUSA.com</a>, <a href=\"http://www.facebook.com/realprogressive\">Facebook</a>, <a href=\"http://www.twitter.com/realprogressus\">Twitter</a>, and word of mouth. This was working well on Facebook for a while but....</p>\n<p>If anyone has been on Facebook recently, you know they make almost daily changes that affect how people consume content. Every time they do so, they seem to affect how many people that Real Progressives can reach. At first, we thought it was by accident but then, many of our members are getting sharing bans. Every time we try to modify our actions to avoid the punitive actions of Facebook, another roadblock is being thrown up. <a href=\"https://www.johnlaurits.com/2017/fake-news-corporate-media-facebook-censorship/\">It's obvious that Facebook is censoring content for its own purposes (while social media sounds innovative, eventually, every big corporation become part of the establishment)</a>. This is what had led me to try alternate forms of social media, including my entrance to this platform.       "body": "I am new to Steemit but not new to helping progressives understand federal finance. For too long, we have believed that the federal government's budget is like ours. I'll show you that it isn't true.\n\nFirstly, to understand this you need to understand that the federal government is monetarily sovereign. That means two things: the federal government, through the Treasury and Federal Reserve, is the monopoly issuer of the US dollar. No other entity can create dollars without penalty. Also, it cannot borrow its own currency because it can create it ad hoc. This means there are no worries about China lending us money because they only can acquire it from us.\n\nNext, we need to understand the gridlock we see in Washington is due to political reasons. The two party system is a joke to distract is from the fact that plutocrats are the ones that actually run the show. This is proven by noticing where both Democrats and Republicans get funding from. The same corporations donate to both parties. They argue over the small points while agreeing on the things that keep the pockets of the elite full, then lobby for support from the divided public to disguise their true intent.\n\nNow that we have defined what we can do and the main reason we aren't, let's get to what we can do. Using the power of our sovereign currency, we can accomplish all of the goals that a Green New Deal entails. Universal healthcare, a jobs guarantee, paid maternity/paternity leave, etc. are easily obtainable.
