The “Killers” attacked migrating baleen whales, they chased them towards the shore and tired them out. They then gave the Davidsons a sign by jumping out of the water and hitting the water with their tails. Together with the orcas, the whalers finished the whales off with harpoons. They anchored the body and towed it away, leaving behind the orcas’ favourite parts: the whale’s tongue and lips. This unwritten rule became known as the “law of the tongue”.\n \nThe orcas didn’t trust anybody but the Davidsons and could distinguish their green boats from other ones. Their partnership wasn’t limited to hunting together and sharing their prey. Old Tom and his gang chased sharks away from overturned boats, while the Davidsons helped the orcas get untangled from anchor and buoy ropes on numerous occasions. Meaning, if you want to create an application for iOS / Android / WP, you should learn a lot of information about the \"idea\" of a platform, why your application might not meet their requirements, UX / UI best practices, etc. With a chatbot it is another story – [they let almost anyone](https://core.telegram.org/bots/faq#how-do-i-create-a-bot) in and give you the possibility to write with the language you are used to. This results in something that is very fashionable but functionally limited, uncomfortable, and blocking real prospects with marketing noise.\n\nThere are two good articles (one in [Russian](http://secretmag.ru/article/2016/10/13/sergej-korol/) and the other in [English](http://dangrover.com/blog/2016/04/20/bots-wont-replace-apps.html)), where the authors explain why chatbots do not take off in their current form. In short, both argue that chatbots are a craze. Besides, we all know that at the moment the algorithms of natural language processing (NLP) cannot clearly understand the meaning of most phrases. Having an app is much easier: download, choose a pizza, one click will send your geo-position, another – your phone number, and in 30 minutes you can enjoy your pepperoni. To be fair, next order with a chatbot would be faster since the data is filled in. The only thing to do is to find it in the contact list, but finding something in this enormous list of chats might be problematic.\n\n**The Death Launcher**\nApart from similar functionality iOS / Android applications and chatbots have one more thing in common - how they run. What does it mean for the user? Abundance of applications. So many that most of them will be opened once or twice during the whole time you have this phone. Developers' attempts to return the user won't help (there are so many built-in notifications that they are turned off instantly) to revive the app; neither will bright icons, widgets, or stickers, which you add to your app.\n\nMass app grave - this is where all such applications end up (except for some 10 to 20 apps that you use in everyday life). Is it possible to go back from this point of no return? Probably, yes, and there are some methods (not the topic we want to discuss here). The problem of numerous applications is so urgent that OS developers decided to take the matter in their own hands: some more successfully, like WP with its data relevant tiles;r some less, like Android and iOS.\n\nAnd here is a fact – it's almost impossible to find something visually on a phone even after six months of use, especially with all its folders, widgets and live wallpapers.\n\n**OK Google, What Do I Want?**\nAll operating systems agreed on one thing. It is very easy to quickly find these 10-20 applications that you use constantly, and the ones that you remember. The manufacturers gave an opportunity to swipe - a single gesture that is really convenient if the user knows what they are looking for.\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaJiUFtJLvTbVUgw1ismBeZxNUM9zRuPcBAUqSenF7CpT/image.png)\n\nSome manufacturers have gone further. In addition to the search results they are trying to highlight data which is relevant to the request, but in my experience, there is often a lot of garbage from developers who want to somehow appear in the search results (guilty myself 👠), therefore the usefulness of this feature is controversial.\n\nIf I am not mistaken, iOS from the version 9 is trying to advise you which application to run - right next to the quick search. Most likely, Android is doing the same. It's a good move towards solving the problem of app overload, but it does work in the realities of present technological capabilities. And this concept does not exclude the possibility to leave some applications in a more or less classic form, in case you're old-school.\n\nIt turns out that the concept of App Driven Messaging OS is real chatbots (extremely rare on the market) and applications are a part of the process of communication between the user and function. This could be a web application or a game but it all fits in the form of a chat; and is directly connected with the theme of smart assistants as Siri and Google Now. This design will be not only about the depth of taps which will allow to get the functions and usability, but also the reaction of the application to the user's request: which tone you chatbot uses to answer questions.\n\nIn other words, chat bots, applications, Web applications - all of it is just examples of a clever assistant which we (humans) are about to complete. And if the name Operating System Telegram hurts your eyes, don't forget that it was an abstraction.       "body": "There is a popular plot device in world literature: a book, after reading which, people either die, or lose their mind, or commit suicide. This isn’t an original plot device. It’s in fact so unoriginal that it was already the subject of parodies by the beginning of the XX century. An example of this is “The Blast of the Book”, a short story by G. K. Chesterton. It’s easy to guess the roots of this plotline: most writers are pretty chuffed by the idea that writing something is magical, that the written word can move mountains and lay whole kingdoms to dust. That and kill people, of course. Usually though these statements are used as a metaphor. For example “Mein Kampf” could be called a book that took many lives, but only metaphorically. Could something like this happen literally though?\n\nAt first glance, it’s a rather silly question. Of course not. Carpets can’t fly, houses are not made of gingerbread and books can’t kill people. History, however, does have a place for books with a rather somber reputation.\nPerhaps the most famous deadly book is a novel by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe called “The Sorrows of Young Werther”. The plot is pretty straightforward: a sentimental young man falls in love with a young girl but she marries another. The young man is unable to bear the burden of his sorrows and he kills himself. You might say that’s all pretty dark, but nothing unusual. Well, that may be the case for a contemporary reader. However, it had the effect of an atomic bomb in European society of the time. All across Europe, young men were inspired by Werther’s act and proceeded to shoot themselves. The number was so huge that contemporaries compared the book to a deadly wind. There was a whole suicidal epidemic in Europe for decades. It affected German-speaking nations the most. Attitudes towards the book became rather mystical. When Napoleon was a general, he issued a separate order to ban the book within his army. Several countries banned its publication.\n\nAs it often happens, the book was largely autobiographical. When Goethe was a young man, he suffered from a strong unrequited love towards a young girl called Charlotte, like the heroine of his novel. His friend’s suicide had a major impact on him and he contemplated ending his own life. Things worked out in a much less tidy and romantic fashion though: like the main character of “The Ring”, he pushed many people towards death while escaping it himself.\n\nOf course, the novel wasn’t filled with any NLP or psychocoding or black magic. It’s just that when the reader was in a similar situation to the protagonist, he strongly identified with him. And, for young people, this obviously wasn’t a rare occurrence. So the reader mistook Werther’s action for a logical or even appropriate one. Much later, in the XX century, suicidologists would call this copycat suicide phenomenon the “Werther effect”. So if you haven’t read this book and want to – don’t worry. It won’t make you contemplate suicide, same as “What is to be done?” won’t turn you into a revolutionary. It’s just that each time period has its own overarching ideas and literary devices that don’t necessarily work as well on future generations.\n\nRussia actually saw a similar “suicide epidemic” after the publication of “Poor Lisa”, a novel by Nikolay Karamazin. In the novel, a young peasant girl has a brief affair with an aristocrat, only to later discover that he left her to marry a wealthy widow. Heartbroken, she drowns herself in the lake they often walked past. This novel is currently on the school curriculum, yet it cause a true epidemic among young women and girls reading it in 1792.",
