titleAdmiral Chester Nimitz and Peral Harbour. Inspirational!
body"Tour boats ferry people out to the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii every thirty minutes. We just missed a ferry and had to wait thirty minutes. I went into a small gift shop to kill time. In the gift shop, I purchased a small book entitled, "Reflections on Pearl Harbor " by Admiral Chester Nimitz. Sunday, December 7th, 1941--Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending an afternoon concert in Washington D.C. He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone. Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat--you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war. On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters every where you looked. As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?" Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. Admiral Nimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America. Which do you think it was?" Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?" Nimitz explained: "Mistake number one: The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. "Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk, we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800. "Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to the mainland to be repaired. "As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to the mainland . And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships. "Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. "That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make...or God was taking care of America." I've never forgotten what I read in that little book. It is still an inspiration as I reflect upon it. In jest, I might suggest that because Admiral Nimitz was a Texan, born and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas -- he was a born optimist. But anyway you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism. President Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed a leader that could see silver linings in the midst of the clouds of dejection, despair and defeat. There is a reason that our national motto is, IN GOD WE TRUST. Why have we forgotten? PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY!

If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk, we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800.\n\n\"Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to\ntow every one of those ships to the mainland to be\nrepaired.\n\n\"As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and\ncan be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to the mainland . And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships.\n\n\"Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply.\n\n\"That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make...or God was taking care of America.\"\n\nI've never forgotten what I read in that little book. It is still an inspiration as I reflect upon it. In jest, I might suggest that because Admiral Nimitz was a Texan, born and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas -- he was a born optimist. But anyway you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism.\n\nPresident Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed a leader that\ncould see silver linings in the midst of the clouds of dejection, despair and defeat.\n\nThere is a reason that our national motto is, IN GOD WE TRUST.\n\nWhy have we forgotten?\n\nPRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY!",

title6 reasons why this selloff is just getting started
bodyOpinion: North Korea may not be the biggest worry for this ailing stock market Michael Bush Did Thursday's little jolt of volatility wake you up after months of unusual stock market calm? Better get used to it. You might be tempted to think that the conflict between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was the main cause of the selling. If so, you probably have faith that as soon as this calms down we can get back to the races. Given that Trump has lots of supporters who are invested in stocks, there’s extra motivation for him to behave in a way that calms the markets. Right? The problem with this theory is that Thursday's weakness in the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.07% , the S&P 500 SPX, +0.13% and the Nasdaq COMP, +0.64% , actually may not have a lot to do with U.S.-North Korea saber-rattling. Instead, what's really going on is that the conditions were there to make the market extra vulnerable to a catalyst like the North Korea nuke squabble. And those conditions have not gone away. So there's more to come. "I think this is a correction that's not over," says Doug Ramsey, the chief investment officer of the Leuthold Group. Here are six reasons why Ramsey may be right. 1. August is the cruelest month, but September and October aren't great either We're in what's normally the worst time of the year for the stock market. August is historically the most volatile month. It's starting to live up to its reputation. The deepest market selloffs often happen in September and October. No one knows exactly why this is, but it probably has to do with a psychological need ingrained in us by evolution to harvest, hunker down, and get more cautious as the weather cools. Studies show that this pattern happens in both hemispheres — where the seasons are flipped. Read more: These stock market tremors could trigger a big quake 2. Hello, is Marge in? People who run margin departments at brokerages have to be among the cruelest people in the world. When times are good, they relax standards and dangle lots of available margin in front of you. When everyone around you is bullish and stocks go nowhere but up, it's tempting to use it. So maybe you do. But then the moment volatility picks up, the margin sadomasochists increase margin requirements on stocks, thereby cutting back on available margin. If you are on margin, what you thought was a reasonably comfortable level of safety can turn into a margin call pretty quick. That's happening now. With margin debt at near record levels, this problem could snowball. Investors selling stocks to meet margin calls could push stocks down more, triggering more margin calls and therefore more margin-related selling. Interest rates are on the rise. Here's what this means for your money 3. Market internals are crumbling Technicians love to look for "divergences" inside the market that signal a directional shift. If most stocks or stock groups are moving higher as the narrower indices like the S&P 500 march ahead, all is good. No divergences. But when narrow indices continue higher while fewer stocks participate, that's not good. It's a troubling divergence. And that's what's been happening lately. While the Nasdaq continued higher last week, the number of stocks hitting new lows spiked and the new highs list narrowed, points out Baird investment strategist William Delwiche. He sees the same deterioration of market breadth at the sector level. "This supports the view that index-level weakness is not strictly a reaction to geo-political tensions, even if that provided the initial impetus for selling," he says. 4. A troubling twist in investor sentiment Investor sentiment has been high for weeks, and this in itself is troubling. When everyone is bullish there are fewer people left to buy and push your stocks higher. Overly confident investors are more vulnerable to "surprises," since they complacently think that nothing can go wrong. But often, the real trouble for stocks doesn't begin when sentiment hits highs, but when sentiment starts to roll over after a long stretch of strength. That's what's happening now. "When sentiment reverses at an extreme, it usually pays to take a contrarian position," Delwiche says. 5. ‘Unlucky 7’ This is a weird one which I can't explain. But even if this signal seems like something right out of astrology, it's still troubling. Over the past 100 years, during years ending in seven, the market has almost always been a train wreck during the late summer and fall, points out Ramsey at the Leuthold Group, who brought this odd indicator to my attention. "We wouldn’t vacate the stock market based on this pattern alone," Ramsey says. But at the very least, it's a sign that you should be more cautious. 6. A wonky transport indicator flashes red According to Dow Theory, which is a branch of technical analysis, when upward moves in the Dow Jones Industrial Average are not confirmed by the Dow Jones Transportation Average DJT, +0.87% , it's a red flag for the market. That's not the case now. True, the Dow Jones Transportation Average has been weak. But it hasn't been weak enough long enough to trigger the classic Dow transports signal. However, a little-known Transports-related indicator is flashing red, Ramsey notes. On August 1, the relative strength of the Dow Jones Transportation Average hit a one-year low. But the Dow Industrials closed at a one-year high. This combo is pretty uncommon. But when it happens, it's not good for bulls. This signal flashed on the eve of the bear markets of 1973-74, 1987, 1990, 2000-02, and 2007-09, and just before the 2015-2016 correction. This signal has also misfired several times. But it's still worth nothing that "a mild setback in the transports has rendered a signal that’s often spelled trouble," Ramsey says. The bottom line: None of this is a prediction that the market will necessarily sell off sharply over the next several days. But conditions have been ripe for more volatility — and still are. So that's what we can expect over the next few months. Michael Brush is a Manhattan-based financial writer who publishes the stock newsletter “Brush Up on Stocks.”

"Most cryptocurrency enthusiasts will remember the Shadow Brokers. The hacker collective has been making a lot of headlines over the past few months. Not too long ago, it started selling major exploits through a monthly subscription service, and appears to have made around US$90,000 from doing so. The information below comes from an anonymous researcher and should be taken with a grain of salt accordingly. The Shadow Brokers are reaping the benefits of its monthly subscription service. Selling powerful exploits to criminals all over the world in exchange for a monthly contribution makes a lot of sense for all parties. So far, this venture has proven pretty lucrative for the group, although they had earlier struggled to auction off their exploits. This monthly subscription has resulted in close to US$90,000 in income so far. There was no guarantee of success when they originally announced their new business model. The switch to this monthly service was announced in June of 2017. It involves distributing exploits for IoT devices, browsers, and operating systems, among other things. The cybercrime industry will continue to grow for quite some time to come. This is especially true now that criminals have an easier time getting their hands on different tools. This subscription service is not cheap by any means, but it seems plenty of people are willing to pay for it regardless. According to information provided by an anonymous researcher, people are willingly paying for NSA malware. Such exploits and malware are potent and thus worth the coin. Indeed, they are one of the reasons why attacks such as BrickerBot and WannaCry have proven so successful. All of the money generated by this monthly subscription service has been paid in Monero, a far more anonymous currency compared to Bitcoin. A total of five subscribers have been identified by the security researcher. He discovered five email addresses that had subscribed to the Shadow Brokers’ monthly service. He also successfully decoded the Monero payment ID for these users, which seemingly contains the email addresses in question. That is quite interesting, although it does not indicate that there is a way to link Monero user identities to transactions directly. Rather, subscribers had been asked to include a delivery email address when subscribing. One of these five subscribers has written a blog post documenting this monthly dump service. As it turns out, the quality of exploits received in exchange for the money spent is not quite up to par. The user wrote that they felt “ripped off” and that it seemed the tools delivered were either fixed or no longer useful in general. If that is the case, this monthly subscription service will not be around for much longer. Then again, no other users have voiced any complaints to date. Single reports such as this one always need to be taken with a healthy degree of skepticism. After all, one subscriber going public about the service to complain does not necessarily prove anything. The US$90,000 in revenue seems to hint at a proper service having been set up by the Shadow Brokers. There have always been a lot of questions regarding the validity of these exploits and the claims made by the hacker collective. It will be interesting to see whether or not they earn more money from this service in the coming months."

title260,000 Japanese businesses “going crypto”
body260,000 Japanese businesses “going crypto” If you’re waiting for a sign that bitcoin has moved from a niche obsession to a mainstream boom. Over the coming months, 260,000 stores in Japan will start accepting bitcoin. Japan is embracing cryptocurrencies faster than any other nation. According to TechCrunch the rabid demand for cryptos in Japan and China has fuelled the recent record highs. This is a truly global money revolution. Just two weeks ago news broke that Swiss banks are backing bitcoin, too.

titleT1D Built Artificial Pancreas & Created a DIY Movement
bodyT1D Built Artificial Pancreas & Created a DIY Movement What it is: A Type 1 Diabetic (T1D) grew frustrated with the limited volume on her glucose monitor, which made it difficult to sleep soundly at night. Afraid of not hearing a life-saving alarm, she took matters into her own hands and built an artificial pancreas. In doing this, she’s opened up a new DIY movement, which is letting non-technical T1D’s hack their hardware and provide better healthcare for themselves. Why it's important: A skunkworks effort is about taking the status quo and boldly changing it. It's about flipping power dynamics and 100Xing the impact. DIY movements, like this artificial pancreas, show that innovators can be anyone and that innovation can revolutionize an industry. The disruptive pressure this movement has brought to the diabetic community is forcing manufacturers to improve their devices through greater digitization. The democratization of healthcare products will only continue to rise. How can you get ahead of the curve? https://www.geekwire.com/2017/health-tech-podcast-one-woman-built-artificial-pancreas-started-diy-movement/?utm_campaign=Abundance%20Insider&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=54984007&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_sxJ8uQfTQ0R_gsBvL-EkfGXqRSYFsNOExXcPEhoogE3GaBt_fvn1q2p7euyXn9CwqocoOVkxiGhccfW6BQPi8058iqw&_hsmi=54984007

bodyhttps://hat4uk.wordpress.com/2017/08/04/brexit-bollocks-malign-migration-and-basket-case-britain-victory-will-be-yours-my-progressive-friends/ The Progressive road to Nazism, Brexit bollocks, malign migration and basket-case Britain: victory will be yours, my progressive friends. The determination of a broad spectrum of losers to condemn Europe to pauperised fascism is boundless. By 2027 at the latest, the undiscerning yet ruthless cadres of varietal ideologues will have achieved what three generations believed impossible: to turn Britain back to the chaos of Weimar and the Nazis. History is rhyming to perfection, and I’m through warning people about it. And in today’s flock of pigeon-brained, anti-Brexit propaganda, RBS is moving to Amsterdam (no it isn’t), Barnier repeats his “clock ticking” nonsense (ticking for who, Barmyer?), the Irish teeshirt says Brexit will change everything (let’s hope so) and….right at the end, his somewhat triumphalist mood got the better of him as he said “if we don’t like the progress made, we will block further progress”. Which will, of course, accelerate progress immensely. The pillock. Sadly, he’s right: every tinpot country from Belgium via Finland to Ruritania has a yea or nay on both the progress and outcome of Brexit negotiations. I first pointed this out in a widely circulated piece during June 2016. It has been poo-poohed consistently since, and been un-poo-poohed by me on five separate occasions. Now we can see (not that it was ever hidden, except by the ‘we never lie’ Remainers) that this is in fact the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth. If the British Establishment is serious about Brexit, then the only sensible course of action is to make an unequivocal statement now that says “we are not legally bound to pay you a single euro, and at the first sign of obstructionism, we will walk away and firm up our other arrangements”. Stick that in your clock and swing it, Mickey Barnier. But the élite has never been serious about Brexit, and so it won’t do anything of the kind. Despite the obvious splits and crises on the other side, we are led by hee-hawing donkeys who couldn’t find Wally if he was dressed in a dayglo tutu on a blank page. Despite the banking criminality, the merciless destruction of Greece, the corruption in Brussels, the EUNATO plans for a standing army, the nineteen years of unaudited accounts and lack of any sovereign entity, the young want in, the Left want in, the Banks want in and of course the Sir Humphreys want in. If ever there was a coalition of chaos, that’s it. But this is what we’re going to do, anarchic chaos or not, because that’s what all those devoid of either compassion or discernment want to do. Now I opted out of Cruel Britannia five years ago, so what follows the forthcoming shamefully self-interested, ideologically blind and plain stupid bid to row back towards the Eutanic is not going to include yours truly. I am truly glad about that, and I will give you a solid view of the future right now that lays on the line exactly why that is. Carry on as we are, and within ten years the UK will be in the exact same position as Weimar Germany in 1932: beset by the far-Left, and with a middle class moving further and further towards nasty dictatorship – a dictatorship supported by the judiciary, big business and the military. There is a divide in Britain now deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon. And inside the canyon itself, smaller groups are busy squabbling at close quarters. On each side of the rift sit two irreconcilable armies: the Wishful Unthinking Remainer Tendency currently dominated by the Left, young and middle Britain; and the unhappy mélange of realists comprising UKIP, the Tory Right, the Far Right, and older people with just a tad more wisdom. Neither of these coalitions will hold, because other aspirations are also a disturbing combination of unachievability and liberal denial: Scottish Nationalism, which is pro-Europe Jihadism and its fellow travellers, both of whom become more powerful with every year Demographics, especially the growing tensions between young and old Neoliberal economics which face a genuine crisis, and the appalling possibility (albeit slight) of a return to tried and found-wanted socalism. Neither major Party can win electorally, but in the end the Left will become frustrated by lack of success and start to show its more unpleasant side….as indeed Momentum is already doing. So when liberal democracy is finally seen to have failed – when there is more desperate young sous-classe violence, more attacks on a Muslim community that shows little if any willingness to sort itself out, the beginnings of stock market correction, further conflict within the EU and the consequent lashing out of a State in fear for its survival – the Left is going to lose, and the Right will tighten its grip. There is nothing that the Remainer Left can do to stop that outcome, because it will be backed by the money, the security services, NATO, the Judges, the police, the army and – irony of ironies – whatever comes after the EU and the euro as we know it today. Because in the end, Germany France Brussels and Washington will be on the side of reaction – not the crazies who style themselves The Progressives. They will be on the side of Merkel, Macron, Draghi, Hammond and all the other hobgoblins who drivel on about ‘reform’…..when what they really mean is corporobot fascism, and the devil take citizen fulfilment. So carry on regardless, my many (genuine) friends on the Left: keep putting that one blinded red eye to the telescope’s wrong end, keep the faith with an undemocratic crew of sociopaths, keep dreaming of your revolution, but above all keep going and don’t stop when you reach the cliff edge. Ignore the tenets of Mohammed, ignore the deliberate flooding of Europe with those who will either undercut your wages or behead you for daring to think….and quite possibly both. Dismiss me as a racist old fart, a dinosaur misogynist, a Little Englander, scum, or any of the many other bigoted insults you allow yourselves to hurl at those you despise, while denying that any of them represent hate. And sit in a corner somewhere, picking your nose, dressed in rags and surrounded by rats, wondering what on earth you ever did to deserve the damp prison cell you’ve inhabited ever since that last LGBT demo got slightly out of hand, thanks to your comrades in the Socialist Workers Party. I might be dead, I might be unhappy, and I won’t have peace of mind. But I will be free: come Hell or high water, I will be free. Enjoy.

titleCrewless electric cargo ships may be on the horizon in Norway
bodySpaceX's 'drone' landing ships have proved that uncrewed vessels can handle some of the most dangerous jobs at sea. Now, two Norwegian companies are poised to deploy robo-boats hauling cargo down the fjord - one of the dullest tasks a mariner can contemplate. Two Norwegian companies intend to construct a short-range, all-electric coastal container ship which will operate autonomousl, thus eliminating up to as many as 40,000 diesel truck trips per year. Th 'Yara Birkeland', will commence operations in 2018 with a crew, but it's expected to operate autonomously, without a crew, by 2020. Subject to "regulatory clearance' - of course. The $25 million Birkeland—described as the "Tesla of the Seas"— is jointly developed by Yara International and maritime and defense technology firm Kongsberg Gruppen. The ship will initially be crewed from an on-board control center within a cargo container. Eventually, the container will be moved ashore, and the ship will be remotely operated. It will navigate autonomously by utilizing GPS and avoid collisions using a combination of sensors. Birkeland will be a relatively small "feeder" cargo ship; its journeys will be short voyages down a fjord on Norway's Baltic Sea coast from Yara's factory to a larger port. Containers of fertilizer will then be loaded onto larger ocean-going ships. Currently, Yara transports these containers overland. "Every day, more than 100 diesel truck journeys are needed to transport products from Yara's Porsgrunn plant to ports in Brevik and Larvik," Yara's president and CEO, Svein Tore Holsether, said in a statement issued by the two companies. "With this new autonomous battery-driven container vessel we move transport from road to sea and thereby reduce noise and dust emissions, improve the safety of local roads, and reduce nitrous oxide and CO2 emissions." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VBD7hVRhx0&feature=youtu.be

"title": "Crewless electric cargo ships may be on the horizon in Norway",
"body": "SpaceX's 'drone' landing ships have proved that uncrewed vessels can handle some of the most dangerous jobs at sea. Now, two Norwegian companies are poised to deploy robo-boats hauling cargo down the fjord - one of the dullest tasks a mariner can contemplate.\n\nTwo Norwegian companies intend to construct a short-range, all-electric coastal container ship which will operate autonomousl, thus eliminating up to as many as 40,000 diesel truck trips per year. Th 'Yara Birkeland', will commence operations in 2018 with a crew, but it's expected to operate autonomously, without a crew, by 2020. Subject to \"regulatory clearance' - of course.\n\nThe $25 million Birkeland—described as the \"Tesla of the Seas\"— is jointly developed by Yara International and maritime and defense technology firm Kongsberg Gruppen. The ship will initially be crewed from an on-board control center within a cargo container. Eventually, the container will be moved ashore, and the ship will be remotely operated. It will navigate autonomously by utilizing GPS and avoid collisions using a combination of sensors.\n\nBirkeland will be a relatively small \"feeder\" cargo ship; its journeys will be short voyages down a fjord on Norway's Baltic Sea coast from Yara's factory to a larger port. Containers of fertilizer will then be loaded onto larger ocean-going ships. Currently, Yara transports these containers overland.\n\n\"Every day, more than 100 diesel truck journeys are needed to transport products from Yara's Porsgrunn plant to ports in Brevik and Larvik,\" Yara's president and CEO, Svein Tore Holsether, said in a statement issued by the two companies. \"With this new autonomous battery-driven container vessel we move transport from road to sea and thereby reduce noise and dust emissions, improve the safety of local roads, and reduce nitrous oxide and CO2 emissions.\"\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VBD7hVRhx0&feature=youtu.be",
