| body | Cleverly instigating the spark of curiosity, marvels in India never stop astonishing an avid reader and a traveler. One such mouth gaping story is of a magical escape named ‘Bathu ki Ladhi’, where a cluster of temples become visible only for 4 months of the year! 1) ‘Bathu ki ladhi’, the name comes from ‘Bathu’, a type of stone used in the temple construction and “Ladhi” means the cluster of temples 2) The location of this phenomenal landscape is over the Pong Dam in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh 3) The temple remains submerged for 8 months of the year and becomes visible only when the water level decreases (March-June) 4) The whole cluster consists of 6 temples out of which 5 are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the main one in the center is dedicated to Lord Shiva 5) There are various folklores about the existence of the temple. Whereas some locals claim it to be constructed by a local king, others believe it to be built by the Pandavas in Mahabharat era 6) Even after staying immersed in water for so many years, the temple construction and foundation is strong as Bathu stone is extremely strong and smooth 7) The only medium to visit the temple is via boat. Around the temple, there is a small peaceful island known as Rensar 8) Untouched by big crowds, the location is a serene sight with calm waters all around and a warm sight of migratory birds all over **Best time to visit:** May-June **Where to Stay:** Govt forest resorts are available in Rensar. Accommodation can also be booked at Dharamshala (a drive of 1.5 hrs) **How to reach:** The nearest airport is Gaggal airport (Dharamshala). The temple is located at half an hour’s distance from a small hamlet named Jawali. Originally posted at: http://letusgoto.com/ *Picture Credits: Beingpahadi* |

| body | It is believed that out of all the gods, Lord Shiva is most easily pleased. Yes, we are accustomed to follow the easiest path! MahaShivratri falls on 13th of February this year and Shiva followers are already trodding paths in hopes of making him happy and bringing home loads of luck and fortune. **Then there is a legend behind everything** The literal translation of the festival name is “Great night of Shiva” and to support this, there are many associated legends which is not surprising at all (considering our mythology is sooooo vast!) * Some believe it to be the night of Lord Shiva and Parvati’s marriage. * Others say that Shiva performs the heavenly dance of creation, preservation and destruction on this night. * Shivratri is also celebrated as the annual festival to get over one’s past sins by making offerings to Lord Shiva. **How do people celebrate** * Fasting is the most common tradition followed by devotees on almost every significant day of religious importance . And there it goes.. * Shiva temples are adorned with flowers, lights and vibrant decorations. * The ardent Shiva followers visit temples the first thing in the morning and sing hymns and read Shiva scriptures. * Woodapple leaves, milk and water are offered to make Shiva happy. “Spirituality does not come from religion. It comes from your soul. And sometimes all it takes is just one prayer to change everything” Get ready to accommodate that most wanted change in your lives this year as you explore the best places where MahaShivratri is celebrated. **1) Neelkanth Mahadev temple, Haridwar, Uttarakhand** Ganga Ghats in Haridwar and Rishikesh are believed to wash away human sins and bless with divine peace. And as we Indians love exploiting loopholes.. do anything and everything and then take a holy dip in Ganges has always been our thing! On another Mahashivratri note, devotees visit Shiva temples, do fasting, attend some Yoga sessions and ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri to revive the spiritual self. **2 ) Tilbhandeshwar temple, Varanasi, UP** Varanasi was founded by Lord Shiva.. Do we need to say more? The sanctified Ganga Ghats, holiest Kashi Vishwanath temple and devotees as ardent as Aghori sadhus, Varanasi is throat dipped into the wave of Shiva followers. On the D-day, people enact the wedding procession of Lord Shiva and Parvati, a parade progresses throughout the city starting as well as ending at Tilbhandeshwar temple. This continues for around 5-6 hours and devotees celebrate the wedding by dancing on loud music and consuming Bhaang (A form of Marijuana considered as Lord Shiva’s prasad). Yes, now you know where to go! **3) Bhootnath Temple, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh** Mandi is a peaceful and beautiful hamlet in Himachal Pradesh. How ironic it may sound, but the truth is that Mahashivratri (Festival of God) is celebrated with great vigour and zeal in the Bhootnath Temple (Ghost temple). A week-long “International Mandi Shivratri fair” is held in which hundreds of religious deities are brought in palanquins. People sway to musical beats to express their happiness. A decorative and vibrant procession known as Shobha yatra proceeds through the city. Devotees in thousands come together to be a part of these historic celebrations. **4 ) Umananda temple, Guwahati, Assam** Just like every other corner of the country, Assam celebrates Mahashivratri with great zeal. People throng the Umananda temple and become a proud part of decorations and divine prayers. Shiva dol is another temple in Sibsagar which rises upto a height of 104 feet. Devotees offer various items to Shivalinga as a symbol of gratitude. Also lamps and incense sticks are burnt along with chantings in order to follow the rituals. **5) Matangeshwar temple, Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh** Matangeshwar temple of Khajuraho observes Mahashivratri celebrations as a grand affair and hence the associated magnificence. A week-long dance festival is organised which is ornated by best classical dancers. A 10 day long fair observes numerous participants and a variety of handicrafts besides the rural circus show, magic shows, folk theatre, and merry-go-rounds. The 2.5 meters high Lingam is bathed with water collected from the holy rivers of India. The mantra chanting continues throughout the night, and then woodapple leaves and flower petals are offered to the lingam. **6) Mahakaleshwar temple, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh** *Jyotirlinga sight The temple turns into a beautiful festive sight during MahaShivratri. Quite obvious, hundreds of thousands of devotees flock the temple premises and queues extend huge. However, there is a paid shortcut to cut the line and offer your prayers with a paid pujari (Yes, the so called Indian jugaad). The celebrations go on for 9 days and the temple is decorated with flowers. The last day of Mahashivratri is celebrated with all the traditional rituals. **7) Loknatha temple, Puri, Odisha** Puri is a religious city with considerably high number of Shiva followers. It is believed that Lord Ram established the Shivalinga in Loknath temple. It remains submerged in the water until Pankhodar Ekadashi which occurs just before Mahashivratri. The water is removed and in order to gain that holy sight of shivalinga, numerous devotees visit the temple. Apart from Loknatha temple; Lingaraj temple, Hakateshwar temple are also the main centres of Mahashivratri celebrations in Orissa. **8) Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam, Srikalahasteeswara temple in Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh** *Jyotirlinga sight Both the temples are proud witnesses to Mahashivratri festivities. The grand procession is taken out on a royal chariot to mark grand celebrations. This event continues for 13 days and devotees fast throughout the festive day. Temples echo with the chanting of Shiva mantras and bhajans. Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple is another significant sight where Shiva followers worship by offering milk, curd, honey, rose water, woodapple leaves and fruits to the Shivalinga in hope of making the God happy and bringing in good luck and fortune. **9) Someshwar temple, Trimbakeshwar, Nashik** *Jyotirlinga Site Nashik is a city of utmost important religious activities, be it Shiva pooja or Kumbh mela (occurs every 12 years). The Someshwar Temple is dedicated to Shiva and the Kalpeshwar temple is dedicated to Nandi, Shiva’s bull. It is the only temple with the lingam in the shape of a bowl which is considered as the unison of Bramha, Vishnu and Mahesh. A palkhi procession of the diety is carried out on Mahashivratri at midnight. Devotees appear in thousands of numbers. **10) Hindu Kashmiri, Kashmir valley** The Kashmiri Pandits celebrate Mahashivratri with sheer devotion. It is known as “Herath” in Kashmir. Marking the happiness of Lord Shiva and Parvati marriage, people collect fruits and sweets. They even offer non-vegetarian food in Pooja to feed Bhairavas who are the majority in Shiva’s Baraat. Another important tradition among Kashmiri Brahmins involves married women visiting their maternal homes and returning with money and a pot which is considered to be auspicious. **Fast facts:** **Mahashivratari date** – Feb 13, 2018 **“Jyotirlingas”** – Jyotir Lingum means ‘Radiance sign of Lord Shiva’. A devotional representation of supreme god Shiva and there are 12 Jyotirlingas in India. **Locations of 12 Jyotirlingas** * Somnath Temple, Saurashtra, Gujrat * Srishailam, Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, AndhraPradesh * Ujjain, Mahakaleshwar Temple, Madhya Pradesh * Omkareshwar Temple, Madhya Pradesh * Parali Vaidyanath Temple, Maharashtra * Bhimashankar, Dhakini, Maharashtra * Rameshwaram Temple, Tamilnadu * Nageshwar Temple, Dharukavanam, Maharashtra * Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi, UttarPradesh * Tryambakeshwar Temple, Maharashtra * Kedarnath Temple, Uttarakhand * Grishneshwar Temple, Maharashtra **Popular Mahashivratri Bhajans** https://youtu.be/EOOm_mBLKLY https://youtu.be/LLurbs1uaqo Originally posted at: http://letusgoto.com/ *Picture credits: Twitter, The Financial express, sify, GoUNESCO, IndianHoliday, Nidhi Thakur, Supercabz, News State, BehindWoods, FestivalSherpa* |

| body | How many a times do we end up watching the same movies time and again? Yeah, obviously not because it was not understandable the very first time. But just to relive the imagination-to-reality influence it casts every time. To get drenched in the beauty of its exotic shoot locations. And almost every single time getting inspired to visit the paradise and creating indelible memories. This is the magic of some hard-to-forget top bollywood travel movies. After all, entertainment is alluring and traveling is captivating! And a combination of both in the substantial amount is just the right volume of intoxication you need to feel the high. There are several bollywood travel movies which arouse that hibernated traveling desire from our inert bodies and bring that out in the open. Have you watched these top bollywood travel movies? **1 ) Zindagi na milegi Dobara (2011)** IMDB 8.1 How often do you keep planning trips with your friends? Then start creating watsapp groups in the positive hope of their execution? ZNMD is the perfect execution of a trip each one of us struggles to bring to reality. The mind-blowing movie direction brings us across heart touching friendship tales, an unforgettable road trip and some thrilling adventure. Also, some powerful visuals of emotional moments of introspection and fighting the inside demons. The movie strongly urges on overcoming our fears and getting onboard the excitement trail. An electrifying sea diving experience, the heart in mouth sky diving encounter, the near to death affair of bull run event and the ultimate fun of La Tomatina. Life would never be the same again and nor would be Spain. What are you waiting for? **2 ) Queen (2013)** IMDB 8.3 And then one fine day, a women centric movie proudly entered the Bollywood arena. Titled aptly, “Queen” is the story of an introvert woman who decides to go alone for her honeymoon, after being ditched by her to-be. Her journey sees some sharp turns of behavioral transformation where the dependent and shy girl gains confidence and becomes self-sufficient while traveling bravely in the beautiful lanes of Paris and Amsterdam. She meets various people, makes some wonderful friends, speaks her heart out publicly, tries her hands at relatively new experiences, wins many hearts and continues with no regrets. Do you own that courage to earn yourself a sensational solo trip? **3 ) Ye Jawaani hai Deewani (2013)** IMDB 7.0 The reunion of a bunch of college friends and an escape to the tranquil snow-covered peaks! What else one could possibly demand of? The movie attracts every young heart’s temptation towards adventure, freedom, passion and some hard to handle love emotions. It captures Manali and its enormous landscapic beauty in the first half, and later displays the grandeur of Rajasthani royalty and it’s larger-than-life, wedding set-ups. And it totally blows our mind away! Still glued to your screens? Call your besties and gift yourselves that much-needed break. **4 ) Tamasha (2015)** IMDB 7.2 Some movies are more talked for their locations rather than stories. Tamasha is one belonging to such category. Where critics kept on talked in extremes about the movie’s good and bad, the stupendous locations of Corsica just made us fall in love with it. Along with phenomenol acting skills of both the lead actors (Ranbeer Kapoor and Deepika Padukone), the picture-perfect postcard backgrounds in the movie along with its addictive songs are the absolute ‘ga ga’ factor about the movie. Its time explore an unexplored paradise. Corsica awaits you! **5 ) Dil Chahta hai (2001)** IMDB 8.2 Dil chahta hai should officially be credited for making Goa the famous vacationing destination. Three besties rolling out for a road trip and sinning together creating some lifetime memories is such a great idea for a movie. And it did extremely well too. Even the thought of a Goa vacation with BFF’s raise our excitement levels. Yes, the mere thoughts about it because in reality, the conversion-to-reality factor for a Goa trip turns out quite low. And there are no real reasons found so far as to why are we depriving ourselves from such a worthy trip? This time do not only make plans, execute them. Go get going to Goa! **6 ) Highway (2014)** IMDB 7.6 Peeking over through the highest mountain peaks, standing alone amidst the wide span of deserts in front, running between the forests covered with greens around, trekking uphill with snow laden paths surrounding and looking over the calm sunsets in the evening, Highway depicts a spectacular journey which is not meant to end ever. The deep forests of unexplored Sangla valley and serene unspoilt Pahalgam leaves every viewer spellbounded. Who knew kidnapping can be liberating! Get yourself trapped in the elegant valley views this season! **7 ) Jab we met (2007)** IMDB 8.0 Owing to Kareena’s easy going “bhaag chalte hain” attitude, Jab we met showed the audience that escaping is the perfect solution for life’s every problem. Its famous dialogues, passion to follow one’s own choices and theme of traveling spaces inspired people a lot. Flaunting Shimla, Manali and Bhatinda like some dream vacationing places, the movie became one of those which are loved to be watched time and again. Yes, those walls made of snow in the song “ye ishq haaye” were totally real. Why don’t you pay a visit to know yourselves? **8 ) DDLJ (1995)** IMDB 8.2 We, the generation of 90’s, have grown up watching DDLJ to learn how to marry the college romances despite the denial of families. But keep apart that immortal love story for a moment, how can we forget about the Europe trip and its mesmerizing locations where the actual story started. And that romanticism of mustard fields in Punjab, that exists! Europe is no less charming and romantic even now. Have you met the love of your life? Even if yes, your partner would never say no to relive DDLJ with you. **9 ) Piku (2015)** IMDB 7.6 There must be some reason for we all love the road trips the most. The immense flexibility and freedom of choices it provides being one. Piku is the story of a father daughter duo taking a road journey together. A narrative of powerful connection and bond, the creation of new stories and beautiful countryside views of Varanasi and Kolkatta. The charm of satisfying the wanderlust by wandering over roads is something inexplicable and unmissable. How have your road journeys been? Care to take one more? **10 ) London Paris New York (2012)** IMDB 5.7 Topping the list of most common foreign locations to travel, these cities generally make an easy place in everyone’s bucket-list. And the shoot locations too, does a complete justice to the expectations of movie name. The beautifully captured fantasy lands are weaved into a trip of perfection. Watch out the movie for an evening of entertainment coupled with some travel motivation. Finally, it’s time to live your dream travels. Set your flight on one. If you are a big-time movie buff (we are assuming so) and have already finished watching these, take out some time to watch the below top bollywood travel movies: Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Finding Fanny (2014), Chennai express (2013), Chalo Dilli (2011), Anjaana Anjaani (2010), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), Lootera (2013).. The list never ends! As your travels should.. | body | And then every place silently brags about the stories that were created on its territorial land. A famous personality who might had visited, a major historical event that had occurred, a miracle it had encountered or the birth of a legend it had seen. When we try listening and feeling the sounds of past, spaces start unfolding themselves beautifully, layer by layer. This charismatic charm remains hidden when you visit a place as a tourist and try completing your check list as a priority. The pixie dust only encircles your aura when you become a traveler and look out for the soul of a space rather. Some moments of peace, some time for stories and some imagination to believe: this is all what makes your travels worthy. Mount Abu is one such worthy travel destination. So when you plan to trod its paths, don’t carry a check list but make sure you have traversed its soul. It is the most picture-perfect and only peak in Rajasthan and hence is nurtured with all the special love, care and attention. Similar to that of a single child who is most loved and is the whole world for his parents. A journey towards Mount Abu, 28 kms from the Abu road, is an enthralling ride passing through the thick forests on one side and clouds floating over the other. The pleasant chill of the breeze starts pricking with the raising altitude. | body | The curse that haunts the royal family of Wodeyars, ruling the Mysore Palace, have left them lamenting for taking that one hasty decision is what prevents them from hosting the coronation ceremony of their natural heir. 1 ) Raja Wodeyar took over the Mysore state in 1612 after dethroning the ailing king Tirumalaraja. At that time, Tirumala was suffering from a terminal disease and died eventually. 2 ) Alamelamma, the wife of Tirumalaraja turned to a widow and was no longer permitted to wear jewellery. 3 ) As a result, she donated her jewels to the temple of Ranganayaki. The temple was decorated with her jewels every Friday and Tuesday and those were returned to her afterwards, for the rest of the week. 4 ) The temple authority however, wanted the permanent custody of those jewels and the newly anointed king also supported the fact, thinking that Alamelamma would no longer need those jewels as she was a widow. 5 ) But Alamelamma refused to surrender and hence the king sent his army to seize her by force. In a fit of anger, she uttered the curse and jumped into the Kauvery river to commit suicide. **“Talakadu MaraLagali, Malangi Maduvagali, Mysooru Arasarige Makkalaagadirali”** Meaning: May Talakad turn into a barren expanse of sand; may Malangi (a village on the banks of Cauvery) turn into an unfathomed whirlpool; may the Wadiyars of Mysore not have children for eternity. 6 ) After her utterance, Wodeyar people got afraid and immediately installed a statue of her at the Mysore palace. The idol is worshipped by the Royal family in the palace. 7 ) The consequences of the curse have stemmed its roots into reality though, leading to: Talakad’s temples being buried in sand.. Malangi village, which has faced killer whirlpools.. And the Wodeyars, who have given birth to male children only in alternate generations. The successor king is usually chosen from the younger brother’s progeny or a male child is adopted. Originally posted at: http://letusgoto.com/ Picture credits: Trawell.in |
