body![](https://steemitimages.com/DQma7ajrKNytLwuLAMyeWxsiAMcQTsu1CQTQepnBEaigDvY/image.png) Discussed in the other article that the ultimate goal of playing poker should be making money. Of course, there could be many other reasons for different individuals to sit at the poker table - the list includes playing for fun, wasting some money, having some social experience etc. but still this game is about making money. So there are only 2 ways in poker to make money - showing the best hand at the end or making your opponents to fold their hands. To achieve any of those two, there are again 2 ways - one is to use a some kind of skill and another one is to get lucky. Most often, the success (or the fail) comes as a combination of those two. Let's examine the combinations. For Luck we will rely on Gaussian normal distribution that represent the luck distribution between all poker players and for Skill we will define 2 categories only - Above the Average Skill (assuming about 20% of poker players belong to this category) and Poor Skill (80%). 1. Above the average Skill + Good Luck (Lucky or Very Lucky). ~3.5% of all players. This is what we all want, this will make you rich. This is when a skilled player is in the Zone, plays the best play, makes the best decisions at the right time and even when he is wrong, the luck covers him. This is how you usually win a big tournament or solid amount of cash at the tables. 2. Above the average Skill + Normal Luck. ~13% of all players. This is where most of the regular players usually are. The variation in the long terms neutralizes the luck factor so it is the Skill that can make a profit for them. It is now extremely important for these players who their opponents are. If for example their opponent is from category 1 (Skill + Good Luck), then these players will lose money. 3. Above the average Skill + Bad Luck (Unlucky or Very Unlucky). ~3.5% of all players. This is a real disaster for them. The problem is that they are quite competent and they are doing the correct analysis during the hands, taking the correct decisions but eventually they are losing money. In fact they are doomed no matter what they do... 4. Poor Skill + Good Luck. ~13% of all players. Now there are players that don't need to work/learn poker because the luck will cover them. Those are the most frustrating players at the tables. They will take the worse line, will make the absurd calls and will push with marginal equity but the King Luck will win the hand for them. 5. Poor Skill + Normal Luck. ~54% of all players. The biggest groups of players, also known as “recreational”. Losing money constantly because of the poor skill and the rake. None of them will win something big, it’s a pure waste of time and money for them to keep playing poker. 6. Poor Skill + Bad Luck. ~13% of all players. Those are the biggest losers or the players with shortest poker life. Usually they are those who complain that the poker is rigged and that they are cheated etc. So think carefully in which category you are. Understand and remember that improving your poker skills is important but this is not enough. You need to obey to King Luck as well. :)

title
bodyhey, will you keep up those posts? I personally have been a semi-professionell poker player and grinded NL200 on stars. I stopped playing in 2015 to finish my studies and having a more valuable life. I also played some EPT's and smaller tourneys, but the most profit was done in CG. I would like to answer some questions and explain some things I understand in a completely different way: * The best player in the world is obviously the one with the best decisions. But this doesn't mean the player is winning most of his hands and folds the ones he is not winning. The best player would be someone who is very much unpredictable. Someone who is able to change his playstyle. In MTTs this means to lose up on stages ( like the bubble ) to get chips going. This also might lead to having more chips on later stages and pressure the table even more. Many decisions snowball and are thus very important. Money is **nothing** to care about in poker. Even with the best decisions you can be a losing player on high levels. Every poker player will go through rough downswings and you have to start thinking in Blinds and not dollars. Losing 1 buy-in is not as hard as losing 200$ on one click, even though it might be the same. * Money in poker is earned by folding at right spots ( calculated foldequity ) and getting the most out of strong hands. Forcing your opponents to lay down their hand is close to nothing. You might turn your line into a bluff, but never pressure someone with air to lay down their hand. Bluffs are many times pretty much -EV and I recommend every beginner to stop bluffing, unless you are playing NL50 or higher. * You should never try to get a pot immediately with "vulnerable" hands. If your odds don't fit to the potratio, you just lay down the hand. If you are able to pressure with good (implied) odds, go on. But keep in mind that turning your busted draws into bluffs is really obvious and good players will adept it. * Indeed: Calculating hand ranges is the best way to evaluate the chances of winning for a specific hand. Can you highlight some handranges on your next post?

titleFundamentals of Poker - Part I
body![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZ6PHsHL7Et3MuL1wFYYEuiJLKWFdxUSSVfvtU6rWp57S/image.png) Before going into any other discussions, quizzes, lessons, prizes, adventures and stuff, I'd like to share with you some of the basic fundamentals of poker which unfortunately are quite often misunderstood/ignored/forgotten. Will split the article to several parts and will continue only in case there is an interest into it. :) OK, let's start... What is the goal of the game and how do you achieve it? Simple - the goal of the game is to win the biggest possible amount of money (or simply chips) which also means to lose the least if a positive outcome is impossible. Please remember this definition!!! Question to you now - Does it mean that the best player in the world is the one who wins the most money or it is the one that takes the most profitable decisions during the game no matter what eventually is the outcome? I know it is probably a bit hard to explain and agree but the correct answer always includes the word "money" into it. So how do you win the money in Poker? There are 2 ways to win the chips in the pot: - by forcing your opponents to lay down their hands by betting/raising - by showing down the best hand in the end of the hand Question to you - Do you prefer to take the pot down immediately with a vulnerable hand or you'd like to take the chances provided by the implied odds? The way to lose money is to put (invest) them in the pot by either calling, betting, raising or posting blind. So to actually come out ahead, those investments must have a positive expectation. And to play perfectly you must always choose the option with the highest expectation. Thus the essential skill in poker is the ability to correctly evaluate all of your options. But you will also need discipline, as having the skill alone won't do you any good if you don't actually use it to its fullest extent. But this will be a topic of another article. :) What I want to talk about now is the essential skill for success in Poker. The skill in poker all comes down to correctly evaluating all of your existing options. But make no mistake, this is no simple task. Ideally, you'd like to know with absolute certainty your opponent's holding and how he's going to play it out. With this information, it will always be possible to find the highest EV option. This is why, it's often said that the most important skill in poker (and especially NLHold`em) is hand reading. In reality, usually the best that is humanly possible is to put your opponent on a range of hands and assign some probability on how he's going to play each one of them. So how are you going to do that? -- Part II is coming soon --

titleBitcoin ponzi scheme? Simple questions to crypto fans.
body![img61.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQWqNBT1Vxbhgeg1ufGzoMj1DAKreGN8KXHxSRdNf5Tgx/img61.jpg) Let's assume that there were 1M guys who bought Bitcoin at Coinbase at $1K/BTC. This makes the amount of 1B USD sitting at Coinbase. Now the price is $3K/BTC. What will happen if only the half of this 1M people come to Coinbase and try exchange their BTC back to fiat currency? Where Coinbase will find the missing 500M? What if the price goes to $10K/BTC? Isn't it the biggest ponzi scheme ever? Only the first ones (the insiders, the biggest sharks, the "core developers" etc) will be able to exchange their cryptocurrency to fiat money and all the rest will simple lose everything...

body"for every buyer there is a seller" - exactly, this is how it should be. But is it so? You see above what headlypark copied from their website: "When you sell your bitcoins for USD we usually sell them to other Coinbase users at some point down the line (this is where our reserves come from), but we may cash them out if needed. In general, our goal is to abstract away some of the complexity so it's a simpler process for our users." So this is what I'm saying.. When (if) the panic sell is about to start, the first ones will be able to sell their tokens - no matter who will pay for them, be it the exchange using their fund reserve or some buyers who still don't know what's comming. Eventually the price will drop significantly as everyone wants to sell. And as there is no equity behind the token, the price can literally go to 0....

bodyI did. The value of the cryptos are still too vague. Actually this is an article in cointelegraph from yesterday https://cointelegraph.com/explained/how-cryptocurrencies-maintain-their-price-explained that touches some of the points I think are extremely important.. "The price of a cryptocurrency is a reflection of its value. The more useful it is, the higher the demand for it will be. That demand is what drives the price of any one coin up. However, internal factors are not the only ones affecting the price. Speculative pressure, exerted by traders who buy cryptocurrencies only to sell them later, is an external factor which may affect the price of a coin regardless of its actual usefulness." So I think this is exactly where we are at the moment... And we see all methods mentioned there to keep the value up. But what is inevitable is that the speculators (those 0.5M from the example in my op) will come soon to ask to exchange their cryptos to fiat (to pay bills, to buy cars, to go to Maldives..) and then simply the end will come.. and then we will see the fair prices - 10 dollar for ETH, 100 dollar for BTC (even less). Cheers

bodyThanks. Maybe my question was not clear enough, I've used Coinbase just as an example, don't get me wrong, I don't have nothing against them, even the opposite... I'm questioning the crypto model and the valuation of the tokens, the problem that there is no equity behind to justify their value. :) Of course, the obv point is that it is a free market and the prize is determined by the supply and demand. But exactly this is also where the problem is IMO... So to rephrase my question... As said, the current prize of the BTC is purely speculative (no equity behind). If it was the opposite, there should be no reason for anyone in the world to invest in anything else (neither to try to start a business, nor to go to work, nothing...) than cryptos. Because the growth is that big and easy, everyone is potentially able to increase their wealth significantly in just few months. Now I hope you will agree that nothing in the world comes from nothing, so this is what my question is about... The only things the cryptos have at the moment is Trust, Hope, Plans.. :) It's similar to a gov debt - you can buy it for 1 USD and to hope that it will become 10 USD so you can profit. But as its a gov debt, there is the economics of the country behind that can produce value, there is FED that can print dollars if there are no enough to pay you when you come back to them to ask for your 10 USD per each paper they've sold to you before.... And with cryptos you dont have any of those... Cheers
