      "body": "Benvenuti! \n\nNow the second Act begins but in Babylon. It was so dramatic when the scene opens with the stage (Jerusalem Temple and building, scene) rolling and turning to another stage of Nabucco’s palace. It was a different setting. Here, Abigaile found a document where she found out that she is not Nabucco’s daughter and she confronted her supposedly father. Now, a double tragedy for her: she is losing Ismaele to Fenena and now, the throne to the same Fenena the heiress, for she (Abigaile) is said to be daughter of slaves. She has to do something fast. Now, the news broke that the king had fallen in a battle but the authorities decided to make Abigaile a ruler anyway and she was happy. Meanwhile, Zaccaria had been praying for the conversion of the Babylonians but in bits as Fenena is converted. Also, Ismaele who had been outcast because of his betrayal is now pardoned and reunited. So, someone ran in where Zaccaria, Anna, Fenena and Ismaele were and broke the news of Nabucco’s death. She is not safe because her sister had been proclaimed the ‘king’. Another scene opened with all these people and Abigaile with Babylonians. She demanded for the royal sceptre but Fenena won’t. As she was in rage, surprisingly, Nabucco entered and everyone was shocked. He collected the crown and puts it on his head, proclaiming himself not as a king this time but as a god as he had won battles against Baal and God. He prided himself, so proud he forgot it was God who made it possible (Daniel 4: 29-30). In fact, he tried to force Zaccaria and Fenena to bow and worship him. At that point, a strange lightning struck him mad / insane and Abigaile took back the crown.\n\n![IMG_20180810_205325.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYbXx71sjPUQVdCCpvZnsrFYSS8eSNFu6MLvBpSG9TFVv/IMG_20180810_205325.jpg)\n\nThis time, we went for about 25minutes break. Never knew, until the stage rolled and turned again, that they utilized the time to set a different stage, still on the spot. So beautiful and lovely. \n\nNow the Act 3 opens as the crowd hailed Abigaile, the high priest of Babylon pushes for the death of the Israelites. Abigaile burns with rage for Israelites and looked forward to their execution. But there was a problem, she is not the king, so she could not sign the order for execution because she was only a regent. Nabucco is still alive, just that he was not complete upstairs, he was insane and could not rule. Abigaile had to trick Nabucco to sign the order to put the Israelites to death and she was successful after much pressure. After Nabucco had signed, he remembered that her daughter Fenena will also be executed by that decree as she is now converted a Jew. He then pleaded to Abigaile not to go ahead but to no avail. As Abigaile was bent, Nabucco now wanted to blackmail her that she is not her daughter and went in to look for that document. Unfortunately, Abigaile has it. She showed him the document and tore it to his face. So, no claim. Last resort was to call the soldiers against Abigaile but they are no more loyal to him but only to lock him up in the house. \n\nNow, another scene opens, that beautiful scene of three floors building, filled with the Israelites in Babylon by the river’s side. You remember that song, “By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down . . .”? That was the picture, beautifully captured with condensed lightings. There they sang that beautiful song (\"Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate\" / \"Fly, thought, on golden wings) and the priest gave them hope of return to their home soonest. It is almost over, it is the last Act with no break.\n\nThen the stage turned again to the palace where Nabucco was. He was restless as he heard some voices and Fenena was led to the slaughter. He was locked inside like a prisoner, it was then it dawned on him. He turned to God in prayer for forgiveness, acknowledging his nothingness and he had a metanoia, then he converted to worship the One True God, the God of Israelites. Then, he was cured and became sane again. Though, the Bible account says he was mad / insane for seven years as against this opera short duration of his madness. Some who were around came to his rescue. He ran quickly to the place of slaughter. There he rescued the Israelites and his daughter Fenena. He ordered the Babylonian god be destroyed as he declared “He is now a Christian”, only God is to be served. As he was speaking, a lightning came and destroyed the statue of the god of Baal (the upper part went back). At this moment, Abigaile seeing that things are falling against her, she took a poison and confessed to her crimes. She begged for forgiveness and died. There, Nabucco promised the return of the exiles and the rebuilding of their Temple, setting them free to go home and rebuild. But we know that according to the Bible, it wasn’t him that allow the Israelites to return and rebuild the Temple but King Cyrus. So, we see some mixtures of character in one. The people were happy for their freedom, praising God for prayers answered (at the beginning they prayed). And so emotional when the people let down the “three colour” flags everywhere. It was like independence! Jubilations and celebrations; to the glory of God.\n\nThough, it was an evening to relax and enjoy oneself, one can still have some critical look at the play. The numerous casting may give notion to the number of the people of Israel but sometimes here, causes distractions when they are on stage. There were sometimes the soldiers were just running without bearing and you ask yourself the question, what are they doing?  Also, they did well to subtitle what they were saying/singing in English but it was not all the time. There were times one will just stand clueless because you do not understand Italian, you can’t hear the wordings clearly. The subtitling helps, they could improve on it. Then, the timing of the opera was late. Though, they did not start at that 8:45, we ended past 12am. Many were already getting tired, sleepy and bored, thinking about how to go home. Many got stranded because there no much autobus that late for many of us. There were some of my friends who would have come but when they saw the timing, they back off. They must not wait for the sundown. The costume for Nabucco did not depict him. Also, there were some adjustments to the story in the Bible to this opera. Outside of these, it was a great evening out for me.\n\nIt was a wonderful opera/concert weaved with full of reflections and messages for us today. They translated the history to the context of today’s reality and the creativity was a wow.       "body": "Hi Steemians, it’s a good time here. I share with you few of my experiences here in Verona, Italy before going forth to Rome. One of these is the evening I went to the Arena Di Verona. This place is an ancient Amphitheatre but still stands very strong, beautiful. Every now and then, we have lots of people for summer holiday around for sight-seeing, excursion, relaxation and so on. And I happen to love this place. It is a place to visit, if you find yourself in Italy. According to history, it was opened ca. 30AD. It is the third largest colosseum or amphitheatre in the world after the Colosseum of Rome (the largest) and that of Capua being the second largest. The Arena is surrounded with many restaurants for Italian and other delicacies and the shops to buy souvenirs and other items of your choice. Other places of attraction and visit are not far away. Those will be a post for another day, just stay tuned. 10th August’s evening was greeted with many people from all walks of life into the Arena for there was an opera scheduled for 8:45pm, titled NABUCCO. \n\n![IMG_20180810_233646.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXnGk2oHuwU3bwP7A1n9Yz1VQhPuwV3L6eQW9FVXL2J7u/IMG_20180810_233646.jpg)\n\nNabucco is a play with four Acts and it was composed by Giuseppe Verdi in the year 1841. It is a part of the story of the life of Nabucco in the Bible as it affects the people of Israel especially in the prophetic books of Jeremiah and Daniel. You may be wondering, who is Nabucco, are you sure that name is in the Bible? Yes, it is in there. Nabucco is the short form of Nabucodonosor in Italian and it is translated as Nebuchadnezzar in English. Do you know now that it is a familiar name? But it is the Nebuchadnezzar II (c. 634 – 562 BC), the King of Babylon, who plundered Jerusalem (in 587 BC), desecrated its Temple and took the Israelites on exile to Babylon. The opera was fascinating, interesting, romantic, nice, and historically told as it is accompanied with orchestra, playing with some energetic musical rhythms and onstage band (the casts singing). The evening was so fascinating, I don’t know how to begin. I was lost in the opera as the performances of the characters were wonderful. At intermittently (after each scene), you hear a resounding applause from the people to show a nice outing. So, come with me as I render just a summary but will try to cover important details of the opera. Let’s go there.\n\nThe opera was delivered in Italian but thank God, they subtitled it in English. The casts spoke (telling the story) through songs and chants (in all parts, soprano, tenor, baritone, bass, midsoprano). So, if you could not understand what they were singing, you could see what they were saying (singing) as they acted along. There were some major casts which include: Nabucco the main man, he has two daughters namely Abigaile the elder daughter and Fenena the younger daughter, Ismaele the nephew to the king of Jerusalem, Zaccaria the high priest of the Jews then, Anna his sister, there was also high priest of Bel for the Babylonians, then the people. As I said earlier, there were four Acts and they are accompanied each by renditions from the orchestra. I was up close to the stage, so I could catch all the moments. The first Act and scene opened in Jerusalem.\n\nThis is Jerusalem.\n\nNabucco (Nebuchadnezzar), King of Babylon, has come to attack the Israelites and to desecrate the city, as the people live with fears and in turbulence. But they offered payers to their God, making a simple procession like in today’s liturgical and Eucharistic procession in Catholic Church. Zaccaria, the High Priest, was with Anna and Fenena. Fenena had been taken as hostage, hopefully as a bait and a treaty so that Nabucco will not plunder the Temple and carry them away in captivity. Zaccaria was still with his people, encouraging them not to lose hope but trust in God who will not let them down (\"D'Egitto là su i lidi\" / \"On the shores of Egypt He saved the life of Moses\"). Meanwhile, as they were praying and making sacrifices, Ismaele entered and told them of the bad news of Nabucco’s daring advent. But they remained fervent in prayer and trusting in God. Then, Zaccaria handed Fenena to Ismaele to safeguard her as he is a soldier. \n\nThen they left but unknown to Zaccaria (may be, I am not sure), both had met in Babylon when Ismaele was a prisoner. In fact, it was Fenena who made it possible for Ismaele to escape from Babylon to Jerusalem to meet his people. And the conflict part is that they are in love. So, they were alone on the stage reminiscing their love when Abigaile entered with some soldiers from Babylon. Abigaile too was in love with Ismaele. She knew that her sister loved him and she tried to be romantically political when she told Ismaele to love her back and she will save his people, the Israelites and he will have a kingdom to himself. But Ismaele rejected her proposal saying he prefers to die for his people and can’t let go of his love for Fenena. Fenena was at a corner praying for Ismaele and Israel sorrowfully. Meanwhile, Nabucco is already near and they were still “romancing”, fighting for love. \n\nSuddenly, I saw the Israelites and Zaccaria appear, Nabucco is here already. Zaccaria confronts Nabucco of his bloated arrogance and pride. Now, the scene is set for a treaty, that is, let Nabucco leave Israel or his daughter dies as Zaccaria threatened to stab Fenena. But something happened, a betrayal one may say. At this time, Zaccaria was gaining momentum as Nabucco was powerless (he had to make a choice) but Ismaele just saved Fenena from Zaccaria’s hand and gave her to Nabucco. Could this be for love, to betray your people? As soon as Nabucco has her daughter, he ordered the Temple be looted and took them into exile.       "body": "Yaay, Hi Steemians!\n\nHappy and lovely to be in your midst and I believe it is going to be great here, to share ideas and views together. Surely, it is a platform to grow in whatever capacity that interests one. I have heard and have been convinced by my friend who introduced me to Steemit that it is lovely, educational, fun and addictive in a way. I am John, some of my friends call me Ioannes (the latin translation of my name). I am from Lagos in Nigeria but presently in Italy, Verona precisely, to study Italian language. I love traveling and making some good adventures. I am a lover of sports, I play Volleyball, Basketball, Football and Table tennis to a great extent amidst other types of sports. I love to try something new. I love to meet people. I love cultures, not to talk about their entertainment. This was what made me go to study media communication. I had left the university for some years now with the degrees in philosophy and theology and never liked writing (smiles). Even when it was demanding for a philosophy student in my country to write a lot, be skilled in literal styles to marshal out your points, I was not bothered. I preferred to speak it than to write it. Not until I picked up a postgraduate diploma in communication and found out that there are lots to gain, both the writer and the reader, in content writing. We are humans and irrespective of our ideologies and background, there are some certain things that bind us together that go beyond boundaries. Sharing them on this platform that has many nationalities cannot be overemphasized. When I was growing up, I had wanted to be a chartered accountant as I was so good in mathematics, anything that has to do with figures. I still saw that in my in university as I scored high grades in Logic, studying Philosophy. But as fate may have its way, I found myself within the palace of philo-sophia, studying and seeking wisdom (the essential that guides human activities). So, I threaded the way of being a philosopher. I bet you, those years were interesting. And being here, my interest also includes philosophy, probing into reality. Surely, we cannot do without it either ways. Though, philosophers qua philosophers are perceived to be out of this world, abstract and non-real but far from these assertions, they make the table turn. Professionally or unprofessionally, everyone is a philosopher and philosophy breaks bread every day. Part of the enterprise of philosophy is the big question of “who are we?”. So, this is me – a social critic, philosopher and an entertainer with travels and cultures. These are my interests, which shall be coming from my stable.\n\nI love arts for hobby. You may enjoy some of these too from me. I have found a new love in writing. Writing is an art, sharing and making positive impact on people and nation.
