      "body": "Hello steemians, it's been a long time since I posted on this platform. I have been busy for some time now, nonetheless, am back now to keep things going. This is my third achievement task as a steemian and I hope this would at least get me some votes so that I power up and be motivated extra to do more. I hope to engage with you as I try to explain to you what **Plagiarism** is and how to avoid it and source material that is not yours.\n\nBefore I proceed to explain **Plagiarism** as a form of content etiquette, we need to understand that the steem ecosystem operates in such a way that that who curate good and quality content are rewarded through a system called **proof of brain.** Simply put, the **originality and quality of your content** influence the reward earn as a user. Am explaining this because it has a direct relationship with **plagiarism** which is my main focus.\n <center>**WHAT IS PLAGIARISM ???**</center>\n**Plagiarism** simply meant that using someone's academic or intellectual material and present it as yours. It is a form of academic theft that is considered as a unpardonable offence within the academia.  Plagiarism can come in many forms such as using someone's work/text without their consent. It can also be using a text or a phrase that someone said without quoting or giving credence to the person. It can also mean that, you used a sentence of phrase from your own work that has been published or in the public domain and you fail to cite your own self. Yes it's funny right? It isn't, this is called **self plagiarism.**\n\nNow if plagiarism is a grave offence in academia and of course steemit, how do we avoid it as writers of people who curate contents of steemit blockchain?. Stay with me as I take you through one major way to avoid been caught or accused id dabbing in plagiarism.\n\n<center>**CITATION**</center>\nCitation is very important because it direct the readers to the original text through the source you give them. It also helps appreciate the integrity of the author since it's an acknowledgement that one man cannot be a repository of knowledge. In an era where source of information are difficult to find, given your readers the source of an information that is not yours gives them the opportunity to cross check facts and verity the veracity of the information shared with them.\n\nTo better understand this, let me give you an example through the achievement three tutorial by @cryptokannon for us to better understand this. \"Apples are a true superfood in my opinion\" @cryptokannon\nThe above quotation means that the words used there are not mine but attributed to the person cited as appeared above. But this is not the end of it because readers would want to know not just the person who said it, but also the source of the information.
