| body | Thank you so much for sharing this amazing post with us! Have you heard about Partiko? It’s a really convenient mobile app for Steem! With Partiko, you can easily see what’s going on in the Steem community, make posts and comments (no beneficiary cut forever!), and always stayed connected with your followers via push notification! Partiko also rewards you with Partiko Points (3000 Partiko Point bonus when you first use it!), and Partiko Points can be converted into Steem tokens. You can earn Partiko Points easily by making posts and comments using Partiko. We also noticed that your Steem Power is low. We will be very happy to delegate 15 Steem Power to you once you have made a post using Partiko! With more Steem Power, you can make more posts and comments, and earn more rewards! If that all sounds interesting, you can: - Download Partiko Android at [Google Play](http://bit.ly/2SRFIta) - Or Download Partiko iOS on the [App Store](https://apple.co/2PcXkSd) Thank you so much for reading this message! |

With more Steem Power, you can make more posts and comments, and earn more rewards!\n\nIf that all sounds interesting, you can: \n\n- Download Partiko Android at [Google Play](http://bit.ly/2SRFIta)\n- Or Download Partiko iOS on the [App Store](https://apple.co/2PcXkSd)\n\nThank you so much for reading this message!",

| title | nCent Labs - test and code review |
| body | nCent has a mission to "create a freer and fairer decentralized Internet where the users directly benefit from the network effects they create and own". If anyone, as we do, feel that this mission statement sounds slightly vague and abstract, then this example from the nCent Litepaper is quite illustrative: *"In 2009, DARPA hosted the Red Balloon Challenge. The first team to find 10 red balloons scattered across the USA would win a $40,000 prize3 . Shockingly, the MIT Media Lab organized a team that solved the Challenge in less than 9 hours, with only a few days of preparation. Their solution used recursive incentives to reward all the people who helped recruit balloon finders: If the MIT team won the challenge, $4000 would be allocated to each balloon’s chain of finders & recruiters: $2000 to the person who found it, $1000 to the person who recruited the finder, $500 to the person who recruited the person who recruited the finder, and so on ."* This comes across as quite mind blowing concept to us as it allows **all** actors in a network to be rewarded for participating in achieving objectives according to their individual contribution. No wonder that names such as Raval Navikant and Winklevoss Capital can be found on the list of nCent investors. The attentive reader realizes that this solution can be generalized to everything that encompasses a task with defined objectives and a network of actors to support its completion, e.g. **online retail sale, real estate brokerage or staff recruitment** which already relies highly on referral rewards but fail to capture the full value of all network participants and incentivize them for contributions. And what would be more suitable for tracking these contributions and assure that participants are rewarded fairly than blockchain! At this point we are getting interested in how nCent are thinking to realize their concept on a **technical level** and eager see how far they are in their solution *(and as usual encourage readers not wanting to dive in the technical aspects to skip to our conclusion section at the end of this article).* As nCent has not published a Whitepaper at this time, we are confined to look for clues in their Litepaper and github. The Litepaper contains the above illustration of what nCent is set too achieve, and comes in comparison table format used by many projects. **We are not very impressed by this and would advocate to abstain from these 'apples to oranges' comparison tables**, e.g. in reality chains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are also working intensively on these solution categories and are far more advanced and proven than nCent is at this point, so comparing what nCent aims to be with what other chains are currently doesn't make much sense. The nCent homepage doesn't provide a github link, but after some digging we find it at https://github.com/ncent/ncent.github.io. *(we also confirm with the nCent team that we in fact found the correct one)* The first impression after downloading the github is not very good as source code files are all mixed together with lack of clear structure. It seems like the team has put the code out there but without really expecting anyone to actually look at it. Apart from the nCent **website** we can see the following elements: **API** ("coming soon") **Application** (web, old/depreciated) **Core** ("coming soon") **Logo Assets** (no source) **MediaKit** (no source) **Mobile App (has source code)** **Request for Startups** (no source) **SDK** ( "coming soon") **Sandbox (has source code)** **Tools** (Telegram Bot) The only folders of interest are **Mobile App** and **Sandbox**. We start by trying to run the Mobile App on Android (React bootstrap) and fail to make it work. The github contents provide little clue to how to build it by we assume that the app is depending on somewhat outdated library environment and begin to debug the React code. After struggling a bit we manage to build the right libraries (although nCent uses npm which should give the right dependencies). Fast forward a couple of days and the App is running on the server. To start using it we scan the QR code and install another app (https://expo.io) client side from App Store. Viewed from the mobile device it looks like this. We also find that our server and the mobile device needs to be on the same WiFi network for this to work (and actually need to install **two** apps to make the mobile app work). This is not a native app. It seams that the App is more or less HTML forms, without any real logic or no encryption etc. We are not sure nCent can do everything as an “online wallet” without having need to store anything locally. However, the existing solution with Expo underlay is not usable for the mass market. A naitive app or a React app without Expo is needed. The code itself is solid and clean, not very advanced but keeps a good standard. At a glance the Sandbox is on a similar level. The accompanying documentation is at best average. The nCent team comments that the current github contents should be viewed as experimental. We agree with this and our impression is that this is still on early prototype stage, where a fundamental rework of the technical concept is most likely necessary. **Conclusion**: The conceptual idea of nCent truly excites us and we think that they are solving a very real problem where blockchain fits in perfectly. We would love to see solutions based on their generalized concept becoming a reality. The technical outline of the complete solution are hidden at the moment and we believe that the nCent project has a long road ahead based on what is available in their github (also bear in mind that no Whitepaper is available at this time). The solution we have looked at is an experimental prototype lacking any business logic, and needs to be fundamentally reworked to be suitable for production and mass-adoption. The time line for the project in view of this concerns us a bit, and it might be delayed by the process of finding core tech team resources to support development (nCent recruitment ads indicate this). However, with the strong backing nCent has received by investors and advisors lined up, we don't believe recruitment of tech talent will be a major issue and looking forward to follow how their ideas materialize. *To contact InCodeWeTrust please send email to [email protected]* |

| title | Nervos Network - code review and product test |
| body | Nervos is presented as a network of scalable and interoperable blockchains built on top of an open network. Built for the enterprise. Nervos CKB (Common Knowledge Base) is aiming to support more general-purpose computation and storage, better scalability and more balanced economic incentives, and more friendly to mobile devices. The Nervos networks’ goal is to become "the world’s common knowledge base, and the foundation of all types of decentralized applications". These are quite challenging goals, for which there are of course numerous contenders. However, with Jan Xie, who has background in the Ethereum foundation with work on scaling solutions, and several other high profile team members, we have high expectations on the technical achievements from this project. (Those looking for conclusion only and not interested in the techncial details are invited to skip to end here) As for consensus implementation, nodes in CKB network first authenticate the submitter of the transaction, then validate new states in the transaction with validators, and put valid transactions in the transaction pool. Once a new block is generated and received, new states in the block are committed into the CKB. The consensus model is a hybrid of Nakamoto (Bitcoin) and BFT (Byzantine Fault Tolerance), in an attempt to achive performance (from BFT) and security (from Bitcoin) under the same roof. We like this idea (as opposite to re-inventing the wheel) and believe they are on to something. The Nervos Virtual Machine is running on clients that are kept synchronized through data bases and feed the chain pool with new transactions for validation. This further supports the scaling driven approach as application execution off-chain is much more efficient. This requires that clients who submit blocks for validations are authenticated permissioned ones and can't be just anyone random call to the chain for validation. The English version of the Nervos whitepaper (draft) suffers a bit by the translation from Chinese and contains some annoying repeats. We will thus not go further into the details described, but rather follow our tradition by diving straight into the code without further due, by looking at the completness of the product in the Nervos github, and our impression from installation and any potential possible run time test. The NervosFoundation github covers Nervos CKB (layer 1 or base layer) and contains the following main elements: **rust-mDNS-responder & rust-medns-discover** Implements the protocol for multicast DNS and DNS-SD (Service Discovery). Both are forks. this is a good fundation for sending/receiving things over the Network Ports. **rust-openssl** Helps to encrypt the network traffic according to open SSL standard **rust-rocksdb** Fork of Rust implementation of the RocksDB. A persistent key-value store for fast storage environments and fundamental to CKB. **rust-secp256k1** Fork of Rust language bindings for Bitcoin secp256k1 library (necessary to utilize btc consensus) All in all, these repositories contains the foundation to build a product but not the CKB product itself. The only thing which is complete is the Nervos-web, which is not the focus of our interest, but something we believe will used to plug in their web-platform later on. Cryptape is the second code repository and contains layer 2, which is the client side of Nervos. The code overall looks solid and contains the complete Neuron wallet example dapp for Android. We will install and try this out. Installation comes without any issues and build is smooth in Android Studio. All libraries are up to date as they should. The wallet runs (and is entirely in Chinese). **Conclusion:** We see a, albeit solid, embryo to a product foundation with extensive and high quality code documentation (used Google translate from Chinese), which indicates a good start for the project, in that it doesn't re-invent the wheel but builds on forks of proven code. We understand after talking to the team that the layer 1 repo doesn't represent the current state of the product (this is kept in private repo for now), but no ETA was shared at the time of writing this. The layer 2 repo is more complete but still in its early days. It looks nice but is far away fromreal product grade. It represents more of a proof of concept with a nice front end and a lot of hard coded things inside. The lasting impression after looking into all of this is that the team is very qualified in what they are doing and we are very excited by the ideas presented in white paper and code documentation. However we would like to see much more realization from this point on, and hopefully open repos for us to study. Without this it is impossible to gauge the actual progress of the project. We will continue to follow Nervos closely as we are very bullish on what they are aiming to achieve, and have well founded confidence in their ability to execute. We believe that this could potentially be one of the major success projects of 2018, as the project builds on a technically solid foundation and should be able to attract numerous commercial use cases once complete. |

We will thus not go further into the details described, but rather follow our tradition by diving straight into the code without further due, by looking at the completness of the product in the Nervos github, and our impression from installation and any potential possible run time test.\n\nThe NervosFoundation github covers Nervos CKB (layer 1 or base layer) and contains the following main elements:\n\n**rust-mDNS-responder & rust-medns-discover**\n\nImplements the protocol for multicast DNS and DNS-SD (Service Discovery). Both are forks. this is a good fundation for sending/receiving things over the Network Ports.\n\n**rust-openssl** \nHelps to encrypt the network traffic according to open SSL standard\n\n**rust-rocksdb**\nFork of Rust implementation of the RocksDB. A persistent key-value store for fast storage environments and fundamental to CKB.\n\n**rust-secp256k1**\nFork of Rust language bindings for Bitcoin secp256k1 library (necessary to utilize btc consensus)\n\nAll in all, these repositories contains the foundation to build a product but not the CKB product itself. The only thing which is complete is the Nervos-web, which is not the focus of our interest, but something we believe will used to plug in their web-platform later on. \n\nCryptape is the second code repository and contains layer 2, which is the client side of Nervos. The code overall looks solid and contains the complete Neuron wallet example dapp for Android. | title | Nervos Network - code review and product test |
| body | Nervos is presented as a network of scalable and interoperable blockchains built on top of an open network. We believe that this could potentially be one of the major success projects of 2018, as the project builds on a technically solid foundation and should be able to attract numerous commercial use cases once complete. |

| title | Runtime test of Fantom - DAG based smart contract platform |
| body | So Fantom aims to provide a smart contract platform that solves the issue of scalability and confirmation time of the existing blockchain technology, and is incidentally one of the most hyped projects around currently. *(Readers that are interested in conclusions only are recommended to skip to end)* The inherent issue with blockchain performance is the synchronous nature of block validation. Enter Fantom (and its competitors) which uses the DAG architecture to make transactions asynchronous by not involving all nodes simultaneously and thus achieve near real-time. On top of this Fantom will also provide a smart contract platform for dapp development. **The promise:** *"The FANTOM platform adopts a new protocol known as LachesisProtocol to maintain consensus. Applications built on top of the FANTOM OPERA Chain enjoy instant transactions and near zero transaction costs for all users."* Now let's get under the hood and see what's there. This is convenient since Fantom releases as open source and doesn't hide core code elements in private repositories unlike many other projects. The FANTOM architecture is divided into three layers. The bottom layer is called the OPERA Core Layer. It is responsible for creating events and maintaining consensus across all nodes via the Lachesis Protocol. The middle layer is called the OPERA Ware Layer. It will provide the functionality for payments, issuing rewards, incentives, and Story data. Finally, the top layer is called the OPERA Application Layer, and will provide publicly available Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for applications to use features of the OPERA Ware Layer. A browse through the code reveals that Fantom uses the Ganache and Truffle framework, this supports the open source idea well and is a good foundation to start on. The base code is an ETH clone with the consensus algorithm replaced by Fantom's Lachesis. The code looks good for a beta version, but as usual we are mostly interested in if things work in reality rather than detailed source code review. The purpose of our test is to try out the recently released beta version of Lachesis consensus and OPERA Ware Layer. So we start by installing Ganache and Truffle before downloading the github contents and installing the code (no build is needed since it's all java script) We have no issues installing the code, but it turns out that there is no provision to try out the Fantom Virtual Machine yet, so we run a functional test of the DAG consensus based on EVM. We have the environment up and running and are ready for a local test. We will use the Truffle audit to run through the functional tests sequentially. We run trough the 60 tests and get 57 passes and 3 errors, but believe that the errors come from the test machine environment and will update on this once we switch environment and re-run all tests. We see no other issues and the consensus code works well in our opinion. **TL;DR Conlusion:** We find that Fantom is well underway in delivering according to their roadmap. The code quality is high standard and the built product works as expected. Fantom aims to complete the middleware and API in Q3 this year, something we find realistic especially with the chosen frameworks as a foundation to build on. The target for entire project completion is Q2-2020, which we think will be challenging but still possible. Congratulations to everyone that had the chance to invest in Fantom. *For enquiries on crypto related code reviews/tests please contact us on: [email protected]* |

"title": "Runtime test of Fantom - DAG based smart contract platform",
"body": "\n\nSo Fantom aims to provide a smart contract platform that solves the issue of scalability and confirmation time of the existing blockchain technology, and is incidentally one of the most hyped projects around currently. *(Readers that are interested in conclusions only are recommended to skip to end)*\n\nThe inherent issue with blockchain performance is the synchronous nature of block validation. Enter Fantom (and its competitors) which uses the DAG architecture to make transactions asynchronous by not involving all nodes simultaneously and thus achieve near real-time. On top of this Fantom will also provide a smart contract platform for dapp development.\n\n**The promise:**\n\n*\"The FANTOM platform adopts a new protocol known as LachesisProtocol to maintain consensus. Applications built on top of the FANTOM OPERA Chain enjoy instant transactions and near zero transaction costs for all users.\"* \n\nNow let's get under the hood and see what's there. This is convenient since Fantom releases as open source and doesn't hide core code elements in private repositories unlike many other projects.\n\n\n\nThe FANTOM architecture is divided into three layers. Finally, the top layer is called the OPERA Application Layer, and will provide publicly available Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for applications to use features of the OPERA Ware Layer.\n\nA browse through the code reveals that Fantom uses the Ganache and Truffle framework, this supports the open source idea well and is a good foundation to start on. The base code is an ETH clone with the consensus algorithm replaced by Fantom's Lachesis. \nThe code looks good for a beta version, but as usual we are mostly interested in if things work in reality rather than detailed source code review.\n\nThe purpose of our test is to try out the recently released beta version of Lachesis consensus and OPERA Ware Layer. So we start by installing Ganache and Truffle before downloading the github contents and installing the code (no build is needed since it's all java script) \n\n\n\nWe have no issues installing the code, but it turns out that there is no provision to try out the Fantom Virtual Machine yet, so we run a functional test of the DAG consensus based on EVM.\n\n\n\nWe have the environment up and running and are ready for a local test. We will use the Truffle audit to run through the functional tests sequentially.\n\n\n\nWe run trough the 60 tests and get 57 passes and 3 errors, but believe that the errors come from the test machine environment and will update on this once we switch environment and re-run all tests. We see no other issues and the consensus code works well in our opinion.\n \n**TL;DR Conlusion:** We find that Fantom is well underway in delivering according to their roadmap. The code quality is high standard and the built product works as expected. \nFantom aims to complete the middleware and API in Q3 this year, something we find realistic especially with the chosen frameworks as a foundation to build on. The target for entire project completion is Q2-2020, which we think will be challenging but still possible. Congratulations to everyone that had the chance to invest in Fantom.\n\n*For enquiries on crypto related code reviews/tests please contact us on: [email protected]*",

| title | Solana blockchain test |
| body | In short Solana is proposing a new kind of consensus mechanism to increase the number of blockchain transactions per second. This is how it's described by the project: "By weaving this standardized timestamp into the blockchain, nodes in the network can verify the time and order of events without witnessing them directly. This drastically reduces messaging overhead and is one example of the world of optimization capabilities that become available through Solana’s Proof of History." Sounds very nice indeed....if it works. (Readers that don't feel like getting into the tech stuff can skip to end for conclusion) We start by comparing the content of their whitepaper with what's actually in their github. Turns out we find some solid work on the code which covers the functional claims of the whitepaper and uses good coding standards . However this post is not focused on paper code review, **we want to see if things actually work!** So we start by downloading their github and installing on a clean OS X instance, which has all of the necessary environment to build and execute the code. The entire build process takes 82s and passes without a hitch, not bad at all. (The module list above is truncated since it is too long to post here) Now we are on to the really interesting stuff, to actually run a Solana node and check the performance on our test machine, a MacBook with no optimization what so ever. And we have test node up and running together with the client demo. Again without issues, very smooth. Now, how does this perform in terms of transactions per second. Solana claims to eventually be having 710k tps with off-the-shelf hardware and without sharding. Something that will be increased by applying Moore's law. We have no illusions about them achieving the goal at this point, but want to see how they have progressed now that we know that the code works and have a test node running. We come up with about 12k tps in our first benchmark test (benchmark is based on banking_stage/bench_stage since it doesn't rely on GPU by design and doesn't add network latency), which doesn't disappoint us (keep in mind we are performing the benchmark test on a standard laptop and Solana is still early in their roadmap). (For anyone wanting to replicate this benchmark test it's good to know that the code is updated often and the Erasure coding needs to be followed) After talking to the Solana team we realize that this release is all CPU driven and the GPU version will improve things. The team also informs us of a standard test configuration they currently use with a a 2.4ghz 6 core Xeon CPU that gives 35k tps. We have no reason to doubt this number as it can easily be reproduced. TL;DR In conclusion, as far as technology goes we are very bullish on Solana and looking forward to see how the team progresses with their deliveries. They have a relatively long roadmap but are definitely on to a good start. |

| title | Solana blockchain test |
| body | In short Solana is proposing a new kind of consensus mechanism to increase the number of blockchain transactions per second. We start by comparing the content of their whitepaper with what's actually in their github. We come up with about 14k tps in our first benchmark test, which doesn't disappoint us (keep in mind we are performing the benchmark test on a standard laptop and Solana is still early in their roadmap). After talking to the Solana team we realize that this release is all CPU driven and the GPU version will improve things. The team also informs us of a standard test configuration they currently use with a a 2.4ghz 6 core Xeon CPU that gives 35k tps. We have no reason to doubt this number as it can easily be reproduced. In conclusion, as far as technology goes we are very bullish on Solana and looking forward to see how the team progresses with their deliveries. They have a relatively long roadmap but are definitely on to a good start. |
