The Association describes itself as aiming to support the country’s crypto and blockchain ecosystems and to advise the national government on matters concerning regulation of the crypto sphere.\n\nThe companies involved are Buda Colombia, Bitcoin Colombia, Cajero.co, IntiColombia, Panda Group and RSK. Representatives from each, as well as Mauricio Tovar – co-director of  inTIColombia, a research group of the National University of Colombia – reportedly attended an event this Wednesday in Bogota to discuss the agenda of the new organization.\n\nAs Diario Bitcoin reports, Tovar spoke out at the event against an “abusive” traditional financial sector that encumbers Colombians with unnecessary costs. Citizens “distrust” the current system, he suggested. He said the new association should act as an interlocutor to the state in order to encourage the “informed” adoption of new financial technologies, without compromising the decentralized principles of blockchain, as well as to prevent stifling overregulation.\n\nBuda CEO Alejandro Beltrán contributed his perspective on the potential future of crypto across Latin America, noting that there are estimated to be over 200 mln unbanked citizens in the continent who could be served by a crypto economy. He also noted how complicated it currently is for migrants to send remittances back to their countries of origin using fiat money.\n\nBeyond financial applications, event participants reportedly discussed the use of blockchain in other fields, including information security, intellectual property, the energy sector, electoral systems and real estate registers.\n\nLast year, the UN’s Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) released a report stating that blockchain technology could help address problems facing the ailing banking sector across the continent. Countries in the region with underbanked populations, such as Venezuela, have been encouraging their citizens to educate themselves about crypto. Under pressure from international sanctions, Venezuela launched an oil-backed national cryptocurrency, the Petro, earlier this year.",

      "body": "![Infosys.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmd7mKAEqRgYSsQqhJoDcdS76czjSsjiJoC3CVh6NhRqsG/Infosys.jpg)Indian IT giant Infosys is exploring the potential of blockchain technology to bring new efficiencies in trade finance.\n\nInfosys Finacle, a subsidiary of the firm, announced Wednesday the development of a trade network called India Trade Connect (ITC) in partnership with seven Indian private banks, including ICICI, Axis Bank, South Indian Bank and Yes Bank.\n\nThe blockchain-based network has been designed to digitize trade finance business processes and covers areas such as ownership validation, certification of documents and payments.\n\nITC is currently being used by the banks for a pilot project, using the blockchain-based solution to, a release states, increase automation and transparency, and help manage risks in trade and supply chain financing. According to Infosys, ITC has been built to be blockchain “agnostic” in order to “future-proof” the network against future changes in technology.\n\nSanat Rao, chief business officer at Infosys Finacle, said he hopes to bring more banks into the consortium in order so they can learn about the potential benefits of blockchain systems.\n\nRao said:\n\n“Digitization of trade finance processes using distributed ledger technology offers immense potential to eliminate the friction, cut costs and increase revenue through new business products that are now viable using the modern technologies.”\n\nICICI bank, which recently announced a blockchain trade finance initiative involving over 250 companies, said that the partnership “will enable automation, increase transparency as well as enhance efficiency across trade and supply chain operations.”\n\nGoing forward, the group aims to create a “comprehensive blockchain ecosystem, thereby contributing towards greater adoption of this technology,” said Ajay Gupta, senior general manager at ICICI Bank.",

I don’t know if it will be bitcoin but I hope it will be.”\n\nDorsey is of the opinion that the use of the number one digital currency or another altcoin as a global payment would lower the barrier for the payment company to enter new markets, reports CNBC. He added:\n\n“If we were able to use it a currency today, we could release our apps in every app store around the world instead of the five we’re in.”\n\nHe stated that as the company deals with fiat currency it had to approach the market differently, find a unique banking partner, and work with different regulators.\n\nThis isn’t the first time that Dorsey has been bullish on the future of Bitcoin. In March, it was reported that the Square CEO said that he believed the digital currency would become the globally accepted ‘single currency‘ of the Internet within the next 10 years.\n\nIn November, Square began the introduction of Bitcoin buying and selling options on Square Cash, the mobile payment app developed by Square, for a small section of their users. Since then the payment company has rolled out additional features for its users, which now sees them able to buy, sell, and transfer Bitcoin with the app. Dorsey has also committed personal funds to Lightning Labs as the team continues its work on the Bitcoin scaling proposal known as the Lightning Network.\n\nEarlier today it was reported that Square Cash is growing at a faster rate compared to PayPal’s Venmo, according to Nomura Instinet. Analyst Dan Dolev said that with the roughly 28 million downloads, the number of Square Cash downloads was just one million fewer than Venmo’s levels.\n\nIn a note to clients, Dolev stated that:\n\n“Historically, Venmo saw more downloads versus Square, but the gap appears to have peaked in July 2017.”\n\nIn the first quarter of 2018, Square reportedly sold $34.1 million in Bitcoin; however, it spent $33.9 million purchasing the cryptocurrency, meaning it’s adjusted revenue amounted to $200,000.",

The company, however, is more focused in the underlying technology as it continues to invest in the blockchain development to reform the ‘trust economy.’\n\nOverstock.com Heavily Invested in ‘Trust Economy’ Via Medici Ventures\nMedici Ventures is a wholly owned subsidiary of Overstock.com created to manage and oversee the company’s investments in startups building solutions based on distributed ledger technologies. The Salt Lake City-based subsidiary focuses on six emerging areas: capital markets, money and banking, identity management, property, voting, and underlying technologies supporting blockchain.\n\nJonathan Johnson, President of Medici Ventures, has overseen investments in a dozen startups since the founding of the VC fund in 2014, he told Computer World.\n\n“As cool as we thought bitcoin was it was the underlying technology for it that could be even more transformative. I think blockchain technology does that trust transfer through technology.”\n\nThe new trust economy is expected to increase over the next two years, according to Deloitte, as blockchain is able to establish trust among parties. Person-to-person (P2P) transactions no longer need traditional methods such as banks or credit rating agencies. Distributed ledger technology is a trusted gatekeeper and purveyor of transparency in a world increasingly dependent on online identity and reputation.\n\nThe trust economy extends much beyond the voting booth. Medici Ventures is also invested in tZERO, which aims to setup a platform to compete with traditional stock exchanges. Despite the initial hype surrounding this project in Venezuela, there are still a lot of questions as to what the future holds for the currency itself. So far, there is no real reason to be interested in the Petro, although it seems that may change fairly soon. A new venture has been announced by the government which will certainly put this new form of money on the map.\n\nMore specifically, the Venezuelan government is launching a brand-new digital cryptocurrency bank. This particular venture is interesting for many reasons. Not only does it promote the use of the Petro cryptocurrency, but it also alleviates some of the financial concerns that have been plaguing the country for quite some time now. Venezuela is known for its financial instability, yet setting up a cryptocurrency bank could lead to some interesting developments down the line.\n\nMoreover, this cryptocurrency bank is not necessarily designed for adults, as the government is mainly targeting youth and students. That is another interesting development, as it goes to show the Venezuelan government has high hopes for the future of the country. Introducing youth and students to the concept of cryptocurrency could make a positive impact, although it remains unclear if and when that will happen exactly.\n\nFunding such a massive venture is not all that easy, although the government has a clear plan in place. More specifically, the cryptocurrency bank venture will be funded with 20 million Petro, currently valued at $1.2 billion. This further confirms that there is a real-life value for the Petro and actual use cases waiting to be unlocked. This is all part of an ongoing plan associated with cryptocurrency and Venezuela, by the look of things.\n\nMoreover, President Nicolas Maduro made it clear he values all of Venezuela’s schools and universities. However, Maduro is convinced every single one of these institutions needs to have its own farm to mine cryptocurrencies. It is a bit unclear whether this applies to the Petro currency specifically, or any cryptocurrency which could rise in value over the coming years.\n\nAs one would expect, there are some concerns regarding this new venture. While one has to commend the president for focusing on cryptocurrency and banking in Venezuela, the value of the Petro itself is still up in the air. While the currency is backed by oil reserves, it remains to be seen how useful it will be in the real world. Funding a national effort for youth and young students portends an interesting future ahead, but there will be challenges to contend with as well.",

EOS, the ERC20 Token that is fueling the EOSIO platform, currently has the fifth largest market cap of all cryptocurrencies, according to data from Coinmarketcap.\n\nOne month after Dawn 3.0 was released on April 6, the 4.0 update includes a number of new features and guidelines, according to Larimer’s Medium post.\n\nIt is mainly focused on inter-blockchain communication, a feature that Block.one believes to be critical for scaling blockchains up for large user bases.\n\nAccording to Daniel Larimer, Dawn 4.0’s inter blockchain communication would give applications running on different blockchains the ability to purchase the unused RAM from each other over “multiple chains with independent memory regions running on independent hardware.” Specifically, Block.one predicts “many applications will prefer the many-chain approach to scaling as it will lower overall costs and scale faster.”\n\nDawn 4.0 seeks to encourage users to distribute their unused RAM by letting supply and demand govern the price. As EOSIO expects increased demand for RAM, the price will automatically increase, “so that the price approaches infinity before the system runs out of RAM.”\n\nIn addition to inter-blockchain communication, Block.one has “been focused on cleanup and stability of the EOSIO software.”\n\nAccording to Github, where the project is currently in development, there are 508 open issues with the software at press time. However, with 987 issues now closed, EOSIO is the eighth most active C++ project on Github for the past month, not far below Bitcoin, which holds the sixth place.",

The network would use distributed ledger technology (DLT), such as blockchain, for intra- and inter-bank settlements.\n\nThe application describes the drawbacks of the conventional bank settlement system currently in place for cross-border payment processing:\n\n“A number of messages must be sent between the banks and clearing houses involved in processing the transaction… and clearing intermediaries in the payment flow […] [this may be] expensive […] [and] real-time settlement of payments is not possible […] transactions may be risky as there are counterparty and settlement risks associated with [the] correspondent banking network.”\n\nIn its place, JP Morgan’s patent application proposes using a distributed ledger such as a blockchain to process payments in real-time, without having to rely on a trusted third party to hold the true “golden copy” of the audit trail.\n\nThe patent proposes different embodiments of such a system, which would all include a payment originator bank, a payment beneficiary bank, a peer-to-peer payment network in which both banks would participate, and a distributed ledger.\n\nThe use of a blockchain would be able to confirm that a network payment has been successful “in one consolidated posting across multiple financial institution entities and branches, instead of in many separate instances.”\n\nDistributed ledger technologies have the potential to rehaul payment, clearing and settlement systems for banks internally and across borders. In March this year, the financial messaging provider SWIFT collaborated with 34 global transaction banks in testing a DLT proof of concept (PoC) to help with Nostro account reconciliation.\n\nThis April, Santander became the first bank globally to implement a customer-ready blockchain-powered international payments network – using the technology of Ripple (XRP)’s real-time gross settlement system – beating a host of rival banks, including institutions in South Korea and Japan.",

He added that XRP would be a remittance currency.\n\nWhile the launch date of the exchange remains unannounced, the SBI president stated that the exchange “will be number one in the blink of an eye.”\n\n“When we do it, it will be number one in the blink of an eye so quickly, so even if a tremendous number of customers come, we can build a system that can bear. [sic] We have to pursue safety thoroughly.”\n\nSBI Group first revealed its plans for SBI Virtual Currencies in October, 2016. Unlike what most people may have expected, the company is expanding its presence at an accelerated pace. Earlier this week, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bermuda’s Premier and Minister of Finance. \n\nANOTHER NOTCH IN THE BELT OF BINANCE\nIt appears there is no company in the cryptocurrency world which is as popular as Binance is right now. Considering its position in the industry, one would expect some companies and governments to be paying attention to Binance. However, it seems the company is firing on all cylinders right now, as Binance Group makes some sort of headline virtually every other day. This is a positive development for the cryptocurrency industry as a whole, though.\n\nThe company recently set up shop in Malta, and it now seems Binance Group is focusing on Bermuda. Although that country is not necessarily new to cryptocurrency or blockchain technology, not too many ventures have made headlines there in the past few months. At a press conference last week, Premier and Minister of Finance David Burt signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Binance Group. This seems to hint at a developing partnership between these two entities, which can only be considered a good thing.\n\nSaid Burt:\n\nBinance has decided that their goals align with our aims and objectives to provide a leading, well regulated jurisdiction, ideally suited to the growth of the FinTech industry. And so today, we are pleased to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that sets out the beginnings of a partnership that I am confident will benefit the people of Bermuda.\n\nThe mention of a “well-regulated jurisdiction” is pretty interesting. It has become apparent that Binance wants to make a positive impact in the regulatory department all over the world. Doing so is not straightforward, as most governments remain opposed to cryptocurrency, for obvious reasons. It appears the government of Bermuda is taking a completely different approach, although it remains to be seen how this will play out exactly.\n\nWe do know that Binance Group plans to create at least forty jobs in Bermuda. This harkens back to the company’s recent announcement involving Uganda, where new jobs will be created as well. Most people tend to overlook the fact that cryptocurrency firms can create a lot of jobs, assuming governments allow this industry to thrive. Additionally, the Binance Foundation will sponsor university-level training in blockchain technology development. The Foundation will contribute up to $10 million to this venture, which is well worth keeping an eye on.\n\nWith Binance making such a positive impact on a global scale, it is of the utmost importance that other cryptocurrency exchanges and service providers try to take a similar approach. Bringing cryptocurrency to the masses will require a lot of collaboration between different entities. This means service providers have an important role to play too. So far, Binance is the only one trying to make an impact, but things may change over time.",
